Tink glad everything went well with the scan!

With dd i didn't wiegh myself until i was at the very end. I weighed 9 stone to start with and by week 40 i weighed 11 stone 10! Then when the baby was born and i got home, i weighed 10 stone so most was baby weight and water. It did take me a year though to lose that extra stone i put on. But i couldn't bare the thought of weighing myself throughout the pregnancy, it would worry me no end!

tinkspregnantwithnumber2 · 07/07/2008 12:47

and nuchal measurment was low 1.5 so thats gr8 too
good luck with ur scan squirt

rrrayray · 07/07/2008 13:06

Morning people.

I hope nobody takes this the wrong way at all, but i'm slightly alarmed at everyone saying how much weight they have gained already and how they are already popped out a little pregnancy belly.

I am 12 weeks tomorrow, and have been having sickness, REALLY bad until week 10, now just maybe once or twice a day, but i havent gained any weight AT ALL, infact i have LOST it, quite alot actually. the last time i was weighed i was around 58 kg (in march, but my weight has been around 57-58 for as long as i was on the pill, so i assume thats about my natural weight) but when i saw my Doc about sickness i had shrunk to 52.5kg, the next week i was 51, and since i have weighed myself and i seem to have levelled off at about 50. I am nearly 5ft 8, so i know by my BMI this classes me as underweight, but my doctor didnt seem TOO worried (as all the anti-sickness pills seem to carry cautions about taking in first 3 months) about the sickness, as long as i was keeping fluid down, which i now am. Anyone else in the same boat? I WISH i had a little bump, even a BIG bump just to let me know all was OK

We had an early scan to check all was OK around 6 weeks, but now i'm just alarmed that if i havent grown at all, that something is wrong with the baby? i Sort of took the continued sickness as a good sign that all was alive and well. i have been taking my prenatal vitamins LAST thing at night to ensure staying down.

sorry for such a LONG post, but since last visit to my Doctor (in sussex) we have moved to Essex (all planned, just a bit of a pain) whilst ihave signed onto a doctor up here (who again dindt seem to alarmed at my weight loss) i havent seen a midwife (STILL waiting for a call 10 days on) or had a chance to talk to anyone about my concerns.

Ginni and mrsmontano Hats off to you for being such strong and positive women, All the best!!

Tinks your Scan pictures are Amazing,Beautiful! but just make me even MORE itching to have my 12 week scan and check all is OK!!!

Sorry for writing so much..... Rather worried today!

elkiedee · 07/07/2008 13:16

rrayray, my mum lost 2 stone during each pregnancy. We were all 3 born over 8 lb and I think that was bigger then than now (between 1969-1980).

I didn't show at all until 5 months last time, and some people were surprised even at 6 1/2 months to learn I was pg.

You are of course much slimmer than me to start with but I really wouldn't worry.

elkiedee · 07/07/2008 13:21

I'm not weighing myself, but have been weighed twice at GP and hospital this time. I'm irritated by the way they record BMI at the midwife booking in appt when the NHS's own website says that this isn't an appropriate way to measure things for women who are either (or both presumably) pregnant or breastfeeding. As LGT suggests, don't worry about it.

rrrayray · 07/07/2008 13:33

elkiedee Thaks for your reassurance, as a first timer i just find myself worrying at anything and everything.

LenniEd · 07/07/2008 14:04

rrrayray - I lost 7lbs in the first 10weeks with this pregnancy from sickness and I wasn't really that bad. Am still being sick, but only in the evening so am now gaining weight. I also didn't show until about 20weeks with my first, and I wasn't sick with her, so not showing is nothing to worry about.

I'm not weighing myself either now - it'll only be bad news, and I don't need that

fymandbean · 07/07/2008 14:29

rrrayray - if you are sick you will lose weight and baby will be fine... just keep yourself hydrated.

I've been snacking and already put on 1/2 stone - but the bump I have is just as this is a second baby.... most people on here with bumps are second (or seventh) time arounders...

I'm not weighing too much this time - I put on 3 1/2 stone with DS1 and dispite eating more sensibly in the 1st 12 weeks seem to be following the same pattern this time round.

I had a HUGE bump last time (I'm quite short from waist to boob so not much room for baby) and again look like I'm going the same way but everyones different and I currently look more pregnant than my friend did at 7 months I can't meet up with anyone at the mo as they'd guess straight away.

MissHairspray · 07/07/2008 14:35

Hi rrrayray I wouldn't worry. I'm 13 weeks and a first-timer and although my tummy seems to be much more obvious according to the scales I haven't really put any weight on at all so I think it is mostly bloating. My pg book seemed to imply that I shouldn't have any kind of bump for another few weeks particularly as it is my first, so I think you are the normal one!
In fact when we broke the news to the inlaws last week my MIL kindly told me she had thought to herself last time we met that I was pg as I had a bit of a bump - this was at the end of April when I could only have been 2 weeks at the most! So it probably has less to do with pg and more to do with my fondness for sausage and mash.
Rejoice that you can still wear your normal jeans without resorting to the hair bobble trick!

rrrayray · 07/07/2008 14:56

lennied fymandbean misshairspray
Thank you all so much for putting my mind at rest. Although, i'm actually not wearing my normal normal jeans, any skinny jeans or reasonably fitted ones, whilst still doing up fine make me MIGHTY uncomfortable, with the area just feeling
A)sensitive
B)even MORE sick
C)using the Loo even more.

Luckily, my saviour has been a pair of those Relaxed fit loose "boyfriend" style jeans!!

Thanks again Ladies! xxx

tinkhasagorgeousbean · 07/07/2008 16:11

hi ray
dont worry atall i look massive but havent gained any weight either.
i had nausea from wk 6-7 till wk 11 and couldnt eat much.
luckily it has gone now and i can eat normally.
some women gain weight others dont

elkiedee · 07/07/2008 16:12

Well, those signs all sound like good ones. I've just been quite horribly sick and am feeling terribly sorry for myself and wishing I could just go home. I think I'm going to have to tell at work this week even though I'm not 12 weeks yet - because of the tiredness and nausea.

Also because I don't think I can take the afternoon of the scan off without explaining the circumstances - even then they may not be happy but I think there's a good argument why I shouldn't be asked to rearrange the scan (it's 12+1). My union has called a strike next Wed/Thur, and though I'm not as active as I was I will be out, then I'm on leave and away from London until the next Tuesday, and so asking to have Tue pm off too looks a bit bad really.

LittleSquirt · 07/07/2008 16:58

Hi guys

All was well at my scan, phew! What a relief! I have posted the best picture on my profile if you want to take a look.

They kept my EDD on 16th Jan so that's my date now! The nuchal fold was 2 mm and I was told that it's fairly normal for a baby of 65.5mm. Tink how long was your baby?

LittleSquirt · 07/07/2008 16:59

Oh, forgot to say that I have to wait another 7 to 10 days for the results of my combined test (Nuchal fold + bloods). So all I know at the moment is that the NT measurement is in the "normal" range.

Fingers crossed the results of the combined test put my mind at rest further.

LooseyC · 07/07/2008 20:30

Evening - great news tink and littlesquirt -have I missed anybody?! Just 1 1/2 days till mine - eek. Why am I more worried now than last time round?

I don't weigh myself as a matter of principle - what can you do about it now? Might as well have another flapjack - yum

But then again I am so bloated (or fat!) that I have literally 1 pair of trousers I can fit into - I'm going to have to wear my pjs tomorrow while I wash them! Of course I have a big bag of maternity stuff in the house but in my addled mind it would be tempting fate to get them out before the scan... I think I'm going nuts!

fourlittlefeet · 07/07/2008 21:07

Ray, I second what everyone has written, I know a few skinnys who only put on baby weight (6kgs roughly) and then went back to beanpoles. They suffered a bit in terms of needing extra vitamins, calcium and iron (which sensibly you are taking already), but their babies were bonny and bouncing!

LS, I love that picture of the waving bean. Am beginning to get excited about weds. fingers crossed.

LooseyC · 07/07/2008 21:16

flf - what time is your scan on weds? Mine is at 3pm

largeginandtonic · 07/07/2008 21:30

Good news littlesquirt! Mine was measuring 67.3 and had a nuchal fold of 2.8 i think. The sonographer didnt seem worried at all, so i am not worrying either.

Loosey get out the clothes, they will amke you feel much better Tight trews make me feel sick and so uncomfortable.

I am using the hair bobble trick and have a bump band which i hope will work for a while until i (inevitably) grow out of my jeans

Elkie sorry you are feeling so rubbish Tell work it will be a load off your mind and you can let the tummy relax which may make you feel a bit better too.

Am off for a dating scan with my friend tomorrow, she has just found out she is pregnant but has no idea of her dates as she is still breastfeeding after having her wee girl 10 months ago and has not had a period. I have been saying to her for weeks she should be more careful

fourlittlefeet · 07/07/2008 21:34

its at 2pm!

Kittenpaws · 07/07/2008 21:35

Hi,can I join you - just got the results back from my nuchal scan and blood tests today and am low risk. Didn't want to post on here until I was sure everything was ok - bit superstitious maybe. Baby is due 2nd Jan - will be dc3, I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old so with this one there will be more of them than us!

LooseyC · 07/07/2008 21:37

Will be pacing by then flf! Will keep my virtual fingers crossed for you!

LooseyC · 07/07/2008 21:40

And hello kittenpaws, glad all was well. I'm the most superstitious person in the world so understand - not telling anyone in RL just yet...

elkiedee · 07/07/2008 22:42

Welcome kittenpaws.

LGT, thanks for advice. But I'm not holding my tummy in, I tend to wear long skirts and the same tops as I wore in my first pregnancy anyway and they hide a lot of sins like the extra weight I'm carting round anyway! I'd be happy to be more visibly pregnant sooner this time round, especially on the tube.

chefswife · 08/07/2008 00:22

heidy ho everyone... although it is past midnight for those of you in the UK, i am sitting on my deck, laptop in lap, enjoying the hummingbirds with the forested hills in the background... which i am terrified are going to set fire by the end of the summer because it is so dry up here in the hills. anyhow...

fourlittlefeet yes i have experienced the jeans not doing up one day but doing up a few days later. i'm chalking it up to bloatedness and lack of significant bowel movements. try eating yoghurt and plenty of fruit every day, particularly kiwis. and about the sensitive teeth. just read that there you can get temporary gingivitis but it goes away after pregnancy, provided you take of your teeth. bleeding will occur as well... (man, i am incapable of retaining any meaningful information) something about the... um... body getting use to bacteria change. oh god, i'm terrible.

ginna a shame about daddy... there's loads of support out there for single moms (even though you may have to seek it out yourself) and hopefully you have good family and friends around. congrats on the baby though and welcome aboard. there is certainly plenty of helpful ladies here whose brains you can pick

rrrayray although i seem to have gained some weight and my butt's sticking out more and my hips have widened, i've only gained 2kgs at 13 weeks. not really bad i think. hopefully i won't gain to much. i use to be quite overweight, (220lbs at my heaviest) and since loosing it, (145lbs) this is the first time i've obsessed about weight gain.

welcome and congratulations to kittenpaws.
