Thanks MissJackson I don't think it is bad luck to buy anything past 12 weeks (though can understand why people wait longer!) M&P have some really lovely things, I think it is something like 'Welcome to the World' or along those lines, not too pricey, really well made, and all soft and cuddly

LuckySalem · 02/07/2008 14:25

Sorry hijacking!!

NJ - When is your exact duedate? As you could end up with a DC a year after my DD!! Sorry only just realised this!

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 14:37

I'm fine NJ - muddling through a bit. Very tired with a toddler at home, and getting a bit grumpy at times but otherwise fine. Still sleeping with a bucket next to my bed - hoping to see the back of that soon .

There are a few places where you can buy really nice stuff MissJackson, Mamas and Papas is lovely as NJ said. JojoMamanBebe have lovely things too, but the sizes are big so watch out for that. Don't go too mad though - you will be given loads and loads and loads and loads and loads (no exaggeration) of clothes, blankets, teddies....etc etc. especially with your first. We had things arrive from friends of our parents who we had never even met as well as parents of school friends, business associates and all the friends and family too. One thing that it is lovely to get though first time round is some sort of pregnancy journal to record everything in. I would get one this time but no chance of getting time to fill it in unfortunately.

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 14:42

...oh and Mini Boden, Blooming Marvellous and John Lewis also nice... now you've got me started on baby clothes - those were the days

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/07/2008 14:42

Hiya Jen Exact EDD now 3rd Jan, but knowing my babies will more than likely wait until the middle of Jan to put in an appearance! Your DD was born on the 16th wasn't she? Or have I just made that up? You never know, they could share birthdays! What a coinsidence that would be!! LOL

LenniEd, it is hard when you have other kid/s to look after as well, especially when you add the sickness on top of that! Everyone says 'Oh you must rest rest rest' I say 'when?' LOL With a 6 year old (and his mates) and an 18 month old, rest isn't high on my to do list!

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/07/2008 14:46

I agree with LenniEd - we were actually quite restrained with DS and only bought the basics like white vests and sleepsuits. We didn't have to buy him any actual clothes until he was about six months old - it is amazing how many people love to buy gifts for a new baby even if they have never met the baby or the parents! We got some beautiful clothes from some bloke in Aberdeen who DP's dad had once worked with 30 years ago!

elkiedee · 02/07/2008 14:54

missjackson, I waited until after the birth to buy stuff myself for baby. Green Baby has a lovely shop just off Upper Street near the Angel end if that's of any interest - dp bought a sheet for a Moses basket and a cellular blanket - they're organic cotton and they're very plain creamy colour but the blankets have grown on me - we bought a spare and had to replace one as in January a burglar took one to wrap the gadgetry they were nicking.

The advantage of a blanket over a lot of stuff is that you'll be able to use it for longer. If you do buy clothes before the birth, buy the nice ones in age 3-6 months. We hardly needed to get stuff ourselves before D needed 6-9 month clothes (at about 4.5 months, and he didn't start off big).

LuckySalem · 02/07/2008 14:56

Hijacking again (last time I promise) yeh she was due on the 3rd but born on the 16th! It'd be extra freaky if they shared the same birthday!

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 15:01

I love Green Baby elkiedee. The only thing I think I will need this time though is a new crib/moses basket as we sold ours as no room in loft and some newborn washable nappies. Used birth to potty nappies when DD was first born and they were huge on her - changed to Swaddlebees by the time she was 3 months so have all we need from that age, but will need some tiny ones to start with. Am considering getting an Amby Natures Nest this time so am keeping a look out on the various auction/secondhand/exchange sites for one of those. I also could do with a playmat as lent ours to a friend and I think she wants to buy it off me. Pleased about that though as it was looking a bit tired when I last saw it .

Fortunately my sister is expecting her first less than a week before me so I will be able to shop with her - just as much fun but no money spent! Going to go wild in the aisles at the next NCT sale with her!

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 15:05

.... makes a change another place for nice newborn things. Also organic/fair trade. Really lovely people who run it too. Am remembering what a shopaholic I used to be when DD was tiny - the joys of having two incomes... those were the days.

tinkspregnantwithnumber2 · 02/07/2008 15:10

bought early baby dd1 didnt have any early or newborn clothes

elkiedee · 02/07/2008 15:11

That's a point. MissJackson, don't know whereabouts in the North London area you are, but as well as NCT sales twice a year there's a Haringey Families Nearly New sale in Crouch End, and there's often lots of very small baby clothes including really posh designer label ones, as well as books, toys, equipment etc. I think I'm away for the next one (Sat 19 July I believe) but I'll check the date and post it for you.

mel2005 · 02/07/2008 16:04

if you are having your first a pregnancy journal is great. i did one for my first and re-read it again when i am going through the same stages. its lovely. dont get time to write one now.
i have a tradition when i get to 12 weeks. i go to mamas and papas and buy the baby a teddy. i bought two for my two last week, we had a bunny and a monkey. i already know which twin will be getting the monkey just from looking at the two scans. i have one that jumps around like a monkey.

MrsAay · 02/07/2008 16:15

Just dropping in, before my scan tomorrow. A bit nervous really - not sure why, as this is my 2nd DC. I think it may all become very real!

Had a strange coincidence today. Received an e-mail from a friend, saying, "Surprise! see the enclosed picture" It was a 12 wk scan done on the 1st July. I think I'll have to send her one back tomorrow, saying, "Snap!" -we must be very close in due date!

By the way, Charlotte Church is due in mid-Jan. Perhaps we have a celebrity in our chat room? How exciting!!

mel2005 · 02/07/2008 18:16

good luck for tomorrow mrsaay
thats great that you will have a friend due the same time.

Spink · 02/07/2008 19:20

evening everyone!
good to hear about scans - lovely to see you again NJ and good luck for tomorrow MrsAay
I'm having a very lazy eve, dh is making dinner, the tennis is on the tv and I'm flat out on the sofa with the laptop. Bliss! might do some internet shopping at topshop for maternity clothes too

while we're talking about shopping - dh & I went to look at some double buggies today , looked at the p&t vibe, the nipper 360 and the mountain buggy. SO CONFUSING.
the p&t seems practical, I like that you can take one seat off if the older babe is at nursery and you don't have to lug just the wee one around in a double.. but I just don't like the littlest one being underneath. And I'm a bit concerned about fingers in wheel spokes...

the MB is huge, which is off-putting, and really heavy. But apart from that, it looks very well made, folds and unfolds so easily, and is so easy to steer. WE're both tall and the handlebar is adjustable too which sounds like a tiny thing but would make my back very happy..

the nipper seems good too, very light (compared to the others anyway!). Folding not so straightforward, and apparently it is a bit less sturdy so not as good for resale.

Feel like I SHOULD get the P&T, but think I want the MB... and a bigger house & car to fit it in, and no need to ever use a bus again...
anyone got any advice?

MsSparkle · 02/07/2008 20:08

Evening all,

I am struggling to keep up! I am terrible with names so i can never remember who is who on this thread.

MrsAay, good luck tomorrow. I hope it all goes well

Ooh, how great that Charlotte Church is due Jan. I like her, if anyone wants a good read, read her book Keep Smiling.

MsSparkle · 02/07/2008 20:09

By the way, there is a due March thread! Time is flying by...

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 20:12

Good luck MrsAay - I was far more nervous with this one than I was with DD. Think first time round I was less aware of things going wrong.

I have no experience of either Spink so can't give you any advice, but might be worth putting the decision off for a while and by then there might be another option or you might have made your mind up one way or the other. I have definately decided to stick with my single and carry the new baby at first and see how we go. A double just won't be very practical for me so am going to try and manage without if I can. Will tell you how I get on on the post-natal thread

Spink · 02/07/2008 20:19

LenniEd, I know, we're starting with the buggy-hunting early!! Won't be buying anything til the autumn at least, but I like to have a project we were given a buggy for ds, secondhand from a friend, so now I am unleashed on buggy-buying there is no stopping me!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/07/2008 20:22

Hi everyone

Will catch up with this evenings posts tomorrow, but wanted to add my scan pics whilst DH was here (incase it all went wrong!)

So pics on profile

Havwe a good night everyone, and good luck for the scans tomorrow G'night xxx

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 20:26

Looks just like my pic NJ - did you go to Royal BB Hospital? I went there - got seen straight away for the first time ever.

Know what you mean about needing a project Spink - mine is currently finding a Natures nest. FWIW I love my single MB.

LenniEd · 02/07/2008 20:27

Right, better get on with DH's accounts now - have been 'doing' them all day on and off - have really been on the internet for most of it and am starting to get caught out! Night everyone.

Redgoddess · 02/07/2008 21:56

Hi Everyone

I'm a newbie on MN. I was a bit scared to post after reading some of the slaughters that go on in some of the postings, but you all seem nice in this one

My due date is 22 Jan 08 and I have my 12week scan a week tomorrow. I already have DD who is nearly 14months. I'm also on the buggy hunt too! Early I know but I'm so excited between feeling sick and tired! I'm having the same dilemma as MsSparkle. I've also looked at all of those twin pushchairs, I've sort of decided against the the nipper 360 as I want a pram bit facing me with the newbaby. I've sort of got my heart set on the the mountain buggy, but worried about the space (already brought up subject of selling car to get bigger car with DH,he wasn't impressed)! Common sense tells me to get the p&t vibe but I saw one in town yesterday, and didn't like how baby was stuffed in back, the lack of shopping basket space lost and worried about trapping fingers on wheels too..yes,SO CONFUSING!!

mel2005 · 02/07/2008 22:43

i have had a few phil and teds up to the sport but not the vibe as its so new. i did have a fingers in the wheels incident with my p&t e3 v2, luckily it wasnt as bad as some of the injuries i heard about. the mudguards then came out and i have never used one without them since. they are a pain in the e3 v1 and v2 because they constantly rub on the wheels but in the sport they have better fixings so dont keep moving. i am sure the vibe comes with mudguards like the sport did, the shops possibly didnt bother to fit them. there is less risk of the fingers in the wheels when the mudguards are on but its not impossible.
my SIL has a P&T E3 V2 and has been using it for years and loves it.
i like that the vibe can fold without taking the seat off.
i had a p&t from when dc2 was a newborn and she hated being underneath so i had to sell it as she would scream all the time she was in it. i did buy one later on when she could sit in the seat and it was much better. it is a good buggy. the thing that used to bug me was that dc1 used to get in and out when he wanted to walk more andi used to keep having to put dc2 in the front seat and then back in the back. then i started putting dc2 in the front seat and making dc1 sit in the back. it worked well for a while then he got to big and started sitting in the basket which then broke. i did like the sport version with the adjustable handle and would have bought the vibe but it was still rather new and it worried me that people bought them and sold them really quickly on e-bay.

the quality is not as good as the mountain buggy.
