Katz, thanks for your email. I have replied but also said I would post on here my suggestion for luch tomorrow. Basically all I suggested was that at lunch we give our doatios to someone, and they send off 1 cheque to Katz, makes it a bit simpler. I'm happy to send a cheque.

I know it has been a quiet afternoon - Sweetheart was always around for a chat most afternoons - wonder how she is doing?

Scraggyaggy · 27/01/2005 17:47

Lua - I use Selclene. They are a franchise so there must be one near you too. They are a bit pricey, but you do get absolutely fabulous service (replacement cleaners if yours is off sick / on holiday, insurance, if you don't like your cleaner they'll send someone else etc.) They do the cleaning and ironing for me on a house I rent out and they also do our house in Swansea. I can't recommend them enough. We did try to get someone by word of mouth for peace of mind over security etc but we just couldn't get anyone.

MrsW / Lippy - I totally agree with you. The one thing I love about MN is there is no judgement and it's great that we all support each other even if we believe in totally opposite strategies. What's best, for me personally, is that I get to rant about everything that all these people in RL wind me up about and no-one here really seems to mind. MN is great!!

charleypops · 27/01/2005 17:47

Hi! I've just managed to re-initialise an old computer and set it up for the internet so here I am!! Don't get lap top back till tomorrow night.

Sweetheart is missed here too

Your dins last night sounds yummy Uwila - did you have any amazing Japanese beef? (god, I sound such a carnivore don't I?)

Firday's off - waht a bonus! but does that mean longer days for the rest of the week?

I feel really lucky not having to work, I love it. We're not loaded by any means, but it works for us. Pay is very low locally anyway and there's NO WAY Im commuting into London again unless I absolutely have to. No-ones ever critised me for it (apart from dp's accountant ), My (childless) girlfriends say they're jealous - although they'll probably change their minds once I have a couple of kiddies! I do have to do the housekeeping though (apart from cooking usually), that's why the house is a tip .

Lippy, i've bought and sold LOADS of stuff on ebay, the main thing is to check the vendor's feedback. I'll hold your hand through the process if you like once you've found what you want to buy.

Katz - how sweet re your mw appt!

Scraggyaggy · 27/01/2005 17:52

Oh, if anyone liked Lippy's book on Saturday then Pregnancy & birth magazine are doing a minature version free this month. I'm going to read mine on the train home now!

Lippy - Buy something fairly cheap on Ebay first and see how you get on. I've become an arch-Ebayer since becoming pg. I've got a Tomy carrier, a whole nursery set, about 3 maternity dresses and a few other bits and have been really pleased. My philososphy is that if it's not what I want then I'll sell it back through Ebay!

Uwila · 27/01/2005 18:18

Lippy's book? Did I miss something?

charleypops · 27/01/2005 18:36

I think it was called Cool Baby Names

katzguk · 27/01/2005 18:40

might have to get that then if there is a baby names book free with it need ideas!!

some of you were asking earlier about cravings and the sex of the baby, i think teh old wifes tales goes sweet for a girl and savory for a boy, but also junk for a boy fresh and healthy for a girl.

charleypops · 27/01/2005 18:41

I'll be having a boy then - never had so many carbs in my life in the first 3 months!

MrsWednesday · 27/01/2005 20:25

Lippy, I was talking to myself! Where did you all go?

teabelly · 27/01/2005 20:52

Mrs W , he he he!...actually I went off to visit a friend whose little girl is just 11 days old - and completely adorable...ds was very cute too - kept kissing the baby's head and saying 'love you' - when I told him that he's going to have a sister like that soon he said he'd rather have a 'blue dinosaur' God help us in 4 months if he doesn't change his mind!

LipstickMum · 27/01/2005 22:17

Hehe, Mrs W after typing the message about you talking to yourself I went and abandoned ya Dp commandeered the laptop for work purposes could hardly argue with him!

Yes, I must take the plunge with ebay on something small and cheap. Will definitely be asking for tips Charley and Scrags....when I pluck up the courage that is

The book I bought on Saturday was called 'Cool Baby Names' published by Collins, the names weren't that wacky, they had some good suggestions. I already have 2 name books form before, it was £4.99, but if an abridged version is free with a mag, even better!

I must get a pregnancy mag, I haven't got one yet this pregnancy. They're good fun, but after 1 or 2 issues you realise how much they repeat themselves over and over again, so anyone pregnant at anytime can jump in and get all the info they need.

Am I the only one on here who secretly doesn't really believe in all the 'theories' about whether you're having a boy or a girl?!! It's funny because I am a bit stupidly supersticious (don't walk under ladders etc - don't ask!) and yet I don't believe if you have cravings for this that and the other your having a boy or a girl.

I bet I'm the last one on here to have their scan now I had to put it back a few days. Not that I was going to find out the sex anyway ... maybe...!

MrsWednesday · 28/01/2005 08:09

Ah teabelly, that's lovely about your DS and the blue dinosaur! When we asked DS if he'd rather have a sister or a brother he said 'toast'. Serves us right for asking at breakfast time.

Uwila · 28/01/2005 08:57

Well, I tried to explain to dd that there's a baby in my belly. She now thinks there's a baby in everyone's belly, including her own.

Just went dow to the cafeteria for a cafe mocha (and egg and bacon buddy). Spilled the mocha right down my front. Had to borrow a jumper from tha cafeteria lady (bless her!) and will now have to take a two hour lunch to go home a change and hopefully salvage my white jumper....

By the way the spill was entirely my fault... CLUTZ!!

Uwila · 28/01/2005 09:56

Jeex you guys are quiet today. I hope I don't have to chat with myself all day... How pathetic. No ofense, Mrs. W.

tribpot · 28/01/2005 10:15

I'm around but can't look at the laptop screen for very long without feeling sick - argh! So a bit limited in my screentime today.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend anyway.

katzguk · 28/01/2005 10:51

i'm around although have only now got to my computer!! bloody students requiring my valuable mumsnet time!!

Still got my stinking cold but now back in work so must be better!

welshmum · 28/01/2005 11:21

I'm around a bit too.
Anyone want to borrow my book of Welsh baby names?....thought not.
Glad your cold is getting better Katzguk.
Uwila - you're very brave still wearing white - I'd look like an underexcersized polar bear if I tried that. Speaking of plump bears I really have 'popped out' in the last couple of days - my wandering hubby is going to get a shock when he gets home.
Lippy - I agree with you about the pg mags. I bought one the other day and was so not interested in most of the articles - I don't think I'll be buying any more.

charleypops · 28/01/2005 11:36

Morning!

I'm around - just got up ad had one of my leisurely bathes, deciding what to have for brekkie now...

Trib - Sorry you're feeling sick My sil was like that (worse probably) from beginning to end of both her pregnancies. She felt great as soon as she'd had them and her kids as tough and healthy as old boots.

Hope your cold clears up soon Katz - Even I used to get a cold every year when I was at uni and I'm NEVER normally sick. Very unhealthy places, institues of education

About time you popped Welshie, I couldn't see a thing on Saturday!

Uwila - isn't it always the way? You couldn't have been wearing a brown top today could you?

Am I the only person on here not to have bought one solitary item for baby yet? or any specific maternity clothes?

katzguk · 28/01/2005 11:40

charley - yep i bet you are! i've not bought much but then i still had everything from DD.

charleypops · 28/01/2005 11:47

I feel silly in baby shops like Mothercare and have to leave

katzguk · 28/01/2005 11:49

shop online - you'll get better bargins!

welshmum · 28/01/2005 11:49

I have bought nothing for the new baby either Charley - but I have a whole load of stuff from the first time around.
Can't say the same about the mat wear though - just haven't worn it yet.
Can I be really dull Charley and ask what the result of the eye cream question was and your recommendation? While you were looking at my lack of bump - I was looking at your lack of wrinkles.

mrsflowerpot · 28/01/2005 11:52

I'm here too, but actually working this morning rather than just sitting by the PC - the sudden motivation that comes with the VAT return being due I think.

DS has gone on his first proper playdate today - his friend's mum has picked them both up from nursery and is taking him home for lunch and a play. I'm feeling all lost and emotional - will be a nervous wreck when we get to sleepovers! This is the first time he's been somewhere new by himself bless him. I know the mum but haven't been to her house, so it's all new for him. Hope he's doing better than his mum is!

Welshmum, actually yes, I'm interested in your welsh names! My mum is Welsh and we already have a Dylan, so I'm turning over a few Welsh names at the moment. Love Rhiannon and Angharad for girls, but not so sure about other boy's names. Don't want anything that nobody will be able to pronounce (have been through that myself), but being so close to Wales here the names are quite familiar to lots of people. Any suggestions for boys??

charleypops · 28/01/2005 12:13

He he welshie - Well, my lack of wrinkles (although there are a few beginning to make appearences!) is down to - ALWAYS being working in some office in the rare hot days we've had so not being able to sunbathe.
Being a poor child/young adult who was never taken away for hot holidays
Never travelled
Never used a sunbed
No kids

There wasn't really any definitive result in the eye creme thread , but lots of good suggestions.

I've never actually used a specific eye cream - just the stuff I put on the rest of my face. The ones I've tried do that tightening business which I don't like. I do use Touche Eclat everyday which is light reflective and apparently blurs wrinkles.

Aw MrsFP, I'm sure you'll come to appreciate a few hours off in the future

welshmum · 28/01/2005 12:16

Your girl's names are lovely - as long as you don't mind her being called Harry - that's happened to alot of Angharads that I know. Rhiannon will get shortened to Rhi or Rhan (have both in our family) I like Bethan too and Enlli (very hard to pronounce though so probably wouldn't inflict that one)
For boys I like Gareth, Owain, Ioan, Aneurin (Nye)- I'm also keen on Gruff but the other half doesn't like that.
