firsttimer08 · 06/06/2008 09:40

has anyone been tempted yet to ask for the priority seat on the tube? I think most ppl are too busy reading their papers to even realise there's a pregnant woman standing there - and i've been thinking whether I should just be forward enough to request the seat, unless it appears too rude.

Any opinions?

firsttimer08 · 06/06/2008 09:43

Just wondering if any of the experienced moms can give me an idea of how much I should expect to be spending on average on a monthly basis on baby expenses. Of course sky's always the limit, but regular items like, creams, diapers, bottles, milk - (sorry i don't even really know fully what all a baby will be needed in its initial months)

sambrads · 06/06/2008 09:45

oh my goodness bethoo thats really shocking why did you leave ??

emmsy i love o look in on the girls as everyone was such good support for me

this baby is being a real wee monkey never stops moving all day and night im a bit nervous as i read that what ever sleep pattern your baby is in in your belly they will be born that way until a routine is sorted so i am never going to sleep haha

please excuse my moan but my dh really pissed me off last night he told me he is telling everyone that i am due 1st october cause he does not like 30th september as a due date ??????

like what the is that all about im mad at the fact he is making a lier out of me and feels like eh hs some right to choose whatever date he likes sory

WheresTheAuPair · 06/06/2008 09:52

Hi can I join here? I'm due on the 16th October and can't believe am half way through already! Have got my 20 week scan next week and can't wait to find out what i'm having. Was convinced no2 was a girl but my midwife has convinced me i'm having DS2! Had my DS1 19 months ago by section and preparing myself for another one.
ok signing off now DS1 has finished his game and now wants to sit on my lap and 'play' with the laptop!

bethoo · 06/06/2008 09:59

sambrads well i lived with my parents then and my dad was in the army and it was a short posting but i loved it. great night life, gorgeous men.....

saw a fabby tandem today though from america though will be checking it out on ebay! it has a seat at the front and a seat at the back though the back seat is not the conventional type and the child can stand then sit if chooses facing the mum. ony thing is ulness you have a car seat attached it is from 6 months but it is amazing. the make is joovy and the one i am looking at is the caboose the ultralight one is only 21 lbs or something like it. check it out and let me know what you think.

oh and morning everyone and welcome to personnanna possibly too many n's there!

bethoo · 06/06/2008 10:00

wherestheaupair welcome and my ds is the same as soon as the laptop comes over he is tapping or should i say banging on the keys and pullling at the connections!

FranMum2B · 06/06/2008 10:04

Morning everyone,

have just been atching up with last 2 days worth!!

Hi Personnana, its amazing you got a 4D scan, we are thinking of getting ne later on, a friend told me that if you get one at 30weeks, it helps with knowing whether the baby will be breach for the birth or not, then you can plan a CS rather than it being last minute. Also DH loves Peru, where do you live?

If anyone lives in South London there is a Baby-a-wake seminar (free) at my work Balance Physiotherapy (7627 5178 for details)it starts at 2pm.

Baby wriggling lots, put music on last night with an ear to my bump...it was so funny, played Bruce Springstein and it kicked non-stop, canged to bit of classical jazz- not a peep! What does that mean - it likes/ doesn't like rock?

Off to France for a week on Sunday so will catch you all when back x

sambrads · 06/06/2008 11:19

hi bethoo checke dout your pram looks nice and not expensive at all!!

in this month pregnancy and birth there is a pram very similar at the back in the adverts section maybe worth looking at that as well.

i am going to go for the maclaren truimp twin buggy its light small when folded and what i want and need to spend

bethoo · 06/06/2008 11:37

sambrads will have a look at that one then. the one i like is nice though would have to be an import and would not trust giving money over iykwim. am an ebay user but do not use paypal. scared of internet fraud!
does anyone find that once you buy one of the pregnancy mag you only need the one as they have all the onfo you need in one mag. but then that may be just me! i liked looking at the week by week calendar.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 06/06/2008 12:11

i'm so jealous!!! I've still not felt a thing at 20+3...left a thread on pregnancy and seems to be a few women who didn't feel anything for a while but my scan isn't for another 10 days so can't help worrying!

firsttimer I ask for seats on the train/tube if I'm knackered - I was faingting a lot in the 1st trimester so really had to, thankfully there are two lovely people who get the same train as me in the morning and alway let me take any seats that become free. Most of the time I'm fine though and no point in making a fuss unless I need it - though I've been offered out of the blue as well!

star6 · 06/06/2008 12:24

I just had my 21 week scan. They say that the baby is healthy and looked at all of it's organs...etc... but when she said "there's the profile"...etc... I COULDN'T SEE IT AT ALL!!!! I asked her to show again a couple of times but then just started to feel really stupid and like a horrible mother!!! My dh could see it all fine... he was like, "oh look at it's little fingers" ... I saw no fingers!!! I could see it perfectly at 12 weeks...
I think I got myself so worked up about it that I couldn't see anything after a while.. ugh. I remained calm there but was in tears when we got into the car because I can't even see my own baby!!! Last time I thought the scan was amazing! This time, I saw the heart beating and thought that was cool... but am still feeling really, really awful that I couldn't see the baby...
Has anyone else had a scan and not known what they were looking at? anyone?

bethoo · 06/06/2008 12:50

star6 yes at first though once they start pointing out things it was ok. maybe you were looking too hard as the saying goes cant see the wood for the trees. did you get pics and could you make them out? did you fidn out the sex?

star6 · 06/06/2008 12:56

We did get pics and I one clearly shows the spine... which I DID see on the screen... I just couldn't see the face, fingers, toes... details... just big blobs!! I did see the heart, though..
The other pic is really blurry but you can kind of see the ribcage.
Yes! She said "I think it's a little boy"... so does that mean it's a boy?? she said they are never 100%.
She didn't point much out - but then, i didn't really ask too much either because I felt silly. I should have!

bethoo · 06/06/2008 13:04

i can only ever make out the tummy and head but never the jaw or nose as they are just blobs to me too. i think it takes a trained eye to spot those. i have to have the feet and arms pointed out to me as well. you are not alone.
ooh a boy you lucky thing, not saying that a girl is bad as i am having a girl but boys are wonderful from experience.

star6 · 06/06/2008 13:10

Thanks!!! Feeling much better now. I'm glad I'm not the only one!!
Did they tell you it's a girl? Is there a way to find out 100%? I heard that they usually are right.
I was hoping for a boy. But would be happy either way. I teach 5-7 year olds and much prefer the boys (behaviourally), but love them all (boy or girl) the same

bethoo · 06/06/2008 13:24

i think they tell if it is a girl by lack of dangly bits and my sonographer said that there were 3 white lines which is usually the ladies parts. do you have any kids already star6? i have a boy and was also hoping for another boy.

bethoo · 06/06/2008 13:25

star6 · 06/06/2008 13:34

No children yet - this is my first - ha ha - as evident by my totally anxious, uninformed posts!

snowymum · 06/06/2008 13:40

I have an anxious first timer question too: am I being completely mental to be worrying about having my bits and flabby thighs on show during childbirth? It's like, it's so private (I'm assuming, in the face of no experience, that childbirth is like doing the biggest poo of your life and there's no way on earth I'd want anyone to witness that.) I'm not a prude or anything - far from it - but just the thought of my poor DH and the midwife having to witness my thighs+cellulite+fat+morecellulite and maybe (eep) see me pooing if one gets away... oh, I don't know. It all sounds less than ideal. Or will I be in so much pain that I won't give a rat's arse?

Having a homebirth, btw, and indie midwife so it's not as if there'll be med students picking their noses and staring up my fanjo... still, feel a bit mortified about the whole affair.

Tell me I'm being ridiculous!

07mumstheword · 06/06/2008 13:57

Snowymum Showing your bits will be the last thing on your mind during labour. My DH stayed at my head end, I think I was so high on gas & air along with pethadine I'm not sure

At one point I had around 10 emergancy staff in the room and I really didn't care about my vanity. The MW had to give me a bed bath afterwards and that was a little wierd but you really won't care.

It's all worth it in the end.

snowymum · 06/06/2008 13:59

I have the feeling this is going to be a remarkable experience. Thanks Mumstheword!

Jambers99 · 06/06/2008 14:02

Snowymum, once you're in labour you really won't worry about who sees what. The first exam is a little embarassing, but as the contractions get stronger and you start pushing you get so focused on what you're doing that you don't care about all the people staring at your bits! And just remind yourself that they've seen it all before, and probably worse, so nothing to be embarrassed about.

Jambers99 · 06/06/2008 14:07

Forgot to say, welcome to wherestheaupair, and huge congrats to milf on making the Talk roundup!

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 06/06/2008 14:22

Ooooooooh I'm famous shame I hadn't said anything more witty

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/06/2008 14:24

firsttimer - if you breastfeed then milk is free and you don't need bottles. Nappy cream only needed if bottom sore, so about 50p a month should cover it. No other toiletries needed except a roll of cotton wool which lasts ages (for wiping bottom with water in early months, before moving to wipes). So then the only expense is nappies, if you are using disposables. Would estimate 8-12 per day for early stages, but decreasing in quantity as they get older. Check supermarket for prices on these, as depends partly on brand you choose. You don't need much else once they have clothes, blankets etc.

Welcome to newbies.

Congrats on scan star. If they say boy then normally more certain than with girl, so looks like that's what you're having!

snowy - I doubt you'll care about dignity when the time comes.

myjob - we will be in Poole next Sat (meeting flamesparrow for day on our way to France).
