Hello! Apologies for disappearing for a bit, but I had a really tough time at work.

My entire team has been made redundant, with the exception of me because I am pregnant (basically they were worried about me calling the lawyers). If one side I am relieved to still have a job, I basically will be sitting in the office on my own waiting for HR tp find me things to do until I go on maternity leave... And of course I will have to find another position when I come back from leave otherwise I will be redundant too.

I feel a bit drained by all this, and saying goodbye to my colleagues on friday was not good. I just hope now I can have a bit of peace...

rosebury · 15/06/2008 12:18

Morning ladies it has been very quiet on here this weekend.

Bethoo I love New Look very cheap and fashionable as long as you can cope with loose threads etc. I have just been for my 24wk appt with mw all is well she said bloods next time 28wks she did piss me off by commenting on my bp saying it was the hich end of average, what the hell is that suppose to mean? she just had to find something to comment on because there is nothing wrong my bp is taken at the end of a busy day I am 46yrs old and my bp is 120/70 why cant the medic say how wonderful it is for a woman of my age to be pregnant and doing so well. sorry for the rant.

I have just taken my rings off cannot remember when I did it last time I know that last time I put a ring back on to soon and my finger swelled up it had to be cut off at the local jewellers.

Anyway hope everyones had a good weekend.

Aubergenie · 15/06/2008 18:00

Hello ladies. I've been so busy at work I haven't had time to catch up with the whole thread as it's so long now. Congrats to those who've had good scan results! Sorry you?re having a worrying time Jambers. It?s good to hear you?re taking it all in your stride though. Sorry to hear your news too Minervaitalica. It's great that you've still got a job but the atmosphere at work must be awful.

I've been wondering about whether to do NCT classes as well. I couldn't get into a local one (despite contacting them ages ago) and have been offered a place on a course outside my area so it means I'm not going to be able to keep in touch with the people I meet there, which was one reason I wanted to do it. I've started a fantastic yoga class though, which I'm going to keep up. A friend recommended it and said it really helped her during labour and the teacher seems really knowledgeable so fingers crossed that and the NHS one will be sufficient? I'm still trying to make my mind up whether to do a hypnobirthing course. Is anyone here doing one?

Lozza70 · 15/06/2008 20:00

Very quiet weekend I think a lot of people were heading off on hols. Minervaitalica, not the best time for you to be having to go through this at work. Hang on in there.

Aubergenie I'm planning to look into a hypnobirthing course. A friend has recomended someone locally for me. DH thinks I'm a little bit crasy

hansnava · 15/06/2008 22:36

hello all

been spending the past few days trying to get over my cold its gone for the most part but think it might have gone to my sinuses as ive got alot of pressure over my left cheek and every time i open my mouth all my jaw and ears hurt.
whats worse is my dp has also got it now and we all know theres nothing worse then a man with a cold

baby not kicking much and dont really notice unless im laying down so im really looking forward to the big kicks that keep me awake all night lol

firsttimer08 · 16/06/2008 08:46

emkay unfortunately, they're only offering 2 weekday classes uptil Nov ! I have pretty much decided that I will go for the weekend classes in the nearby area. Not sure if there will be scope to get to know people, but probably I can be more pro-active when it comes to the coffee mornings and if there are any postnatal classes.

I had a bit of a scare yesterday. Lots of cramping all evening and through the night. Had to go to the hospital and it seems the baby is ok, but they did find a urine infection. Came back home at 2am and now at work I've been given some pain killers and antibiotics for the moment and waiting for the scan this afternoon to find out more on the cramp. It hasn't subsided yet.

jenwa · 16/06/2008 09:12

firsttimer08 hope you feeling ok, should you really be at work? Would do you good to get some rest

sambrads · 16/06/2008 09:36

hello everyone been flat out all weekend.
was at a wedding and wore heels for nearly 12 hours straight !!!

firsttimer try not to panick i had really bad cramps in my back and stomach on tuesday phoned the midwife and they said it was probably just a bug as i had been running to the loo alot
they phoned me the next morning to make sure i was ok as the said bad sickness and pooing can put you in to early labour but i feel ok now

i am a bit worried as i was finding it hard to cope with the pains nearly cried twice !! how the hell am i going to cope with labour!!!!

my dh says i will cope as with labour you wll be rewarded with your bundle of joy but with belly cramps you only get a poo i know men are nuts

i spent all day yesterday sorting out my nursey and swapping over furniture into my ds room cant belivee im having a baby

is anyone else excepting they are having a babay or are they still really worried???
i am starting to let myself get excited

bethoo · 16/06/2008 10:01

we only get two antenatla classes and the yare now called Parentclasses. the first one is about pain relief and labour and the second is about breastfeeding. was gutted alst time as they dotn do the teaching how to breath bit, mw said that they teach yu that whilst in labour which i thought was too late as i could nto do it as i kept holding my breath! really think it is good to learn before the day so you can practice. it seems silly but those who will not be having epidurals will know what i mean.

i accidently shoplifted some maternity leggings from H&M whilst shopping on Sat as i had them plonked on my buggy on the hood, forgot they were there and only realised later they were still on there! i must confess i must be a criminal as i though buggar it i am not going back! they were only £7.99 if thats any consolation??

firsttimer could it have been the beginning of BH? we are nearly in our third trimester so cold be

i see my mw today as also at 24 weeks point.

still do not feel preggers, thsi has been such an easy pregnancy compared to my last one! feel healthy, full of energy and since i usually only feel movements when on back (apart from now i can feel her kicking!!)i dont really notice/feel pregnant!

hope everyone had a lovely weekend and {envy} of those on hols!

ronshar · 16/06/2008 11:30

I feel a little left out. My midwife told me that they dont do 24 week appointment any more. I have to make one for 28 weeks. But then she did say that as it is my third I could probably manage without. Even if I could, how the hell would she know as she rushed me out with out even listening to baby at 18 weeks!!!

I would find out exactly what your NHS classes offer. To be honest they are normally pretty crap. If you have Sky TV you would learn a whole load more by wathcing the baby programmes on Discovery. Just have a cushion ready for the crowning bit. Still makes my eyes water.

ronshar · 16/06/2008 11:31

Bethoo I am shocked at your behaviour.
I think you would be let off though if you played the pregnancy card

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 16/06/2008 12:32

hey girls...also had a scare over the weekend like firstimer...had very severe pains that didn't go away on saturday morning so spent the day waiting in hospital to be seen...a woman started going into labour in the waiting room and the sounds eminating from her were a bit scary! midwife and doctor said baby is fine I just need to take it easier than I have been - our 20 week (ha, 21+6 wk) scan is this afternoon so we'll find out for definate I suppose

we're not doing NCT...at £300 we just can't afford it and seems like a lot of money to spend just to meet other mums...although out NHS ones are packed into one day so not assuming they're going to be terribly enlightening

i'm doing pregnancy yoga and looked into hypnobirthing but again it comes to about £300 so sadly not this time round!

Minervaitalica sorry to hear about work, what a lot of stress you really don't need to deal with - at least you can keep earning adn they'll give you maternity though

ronshar · 16/06/2008 12:43

Good luck with your scan. It could be that you need to remember that you are getting front heavy. Your ligaments will be getting very stretched at the moment.
Also next time you get a pain put your hands either side of your bump. You may find it is solid. That is or could be your first beginnings of Braxton Hicks. Make the most of the gentle ones because before you know it you will be getting bigger ones.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 16/06/2008 13:56

thanks ronshar, now why can't the medical people say something useful like that rather than telling me if it gets worse or I start bleeding they can't do anything about it because I'm not 24 weeks yet - I know, but do you have to point it out to me?

4andnotout · 16/06/2008 17:58

Hi everyone, i had my second scan today and everything is fine, we found out the sex and its a girl This is our fourth girl so literally having nothing to buy
I have to have another scan at 32 weeks to check the growth as im a fatty, nut im pleased as it means i get to see her again!

firsttimer08 · 16/06/2008 19:20

Hi everyone. Fortunately the cramps are gone though i should start reading more about BH, to be sure it wasn't the start of that.

Scan results were a bit mixed today. The baby has dilated renal pelvis - something to do with the functioning of the kidneys. I will be offered another scan at 34 weeks to see if the problem has gone away. If not, then the baby will to be started on antibiotics immediately after birth.

Does anyone know more about this?

Oh and its a boy. There go the pink things I was imagining ! Well as long as its healthy, i'll be fine with blue too.

emkay · 16/06/2008 19:25

Congratulations 4andnotout!
Sorry to hear about those having scary pains - I hope they ease soon.

I think any class that includes stuff on breathing and actually getting into good labouring positions as well as all the medical info is great. You wouldn't run a marathon without any physical training and I don't really see why birth is any different. Of course, you may not use any of it (did a massage course last time but would have bitten my DPs hand off if he'd tried any of it!) but it's still good to have a bit of dedicated time to think about the birth when so busy with every day life.

It is possible to meet lots of mums locally afterwards through NCT coffee mornings, baby / toddler playgroups etc so I think important to attend the course that has the content right for you, even if further away.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 16/06/2008 22:05

Just popping on to say Happy Birthday 07mumstheword as i am off to have my (annual) birthday bubblebath I will catch up properly with the thread laters.

Jambers99 · 17/06/2008 07:26

Happy birthday bigmouth and 07mtw for yesterday.

Congrats on another girl 4andnotout, hope you've got lots of bathrooms in your house for the teenage years!

Sorry to hear about your mixed results firsttimer but, as with me, remember there are so many worse things they could have found. Even if the baby does need some antibiotics after birth, it's not really a big problem. And congrats on having a boy!

bethoo · 17/06/2008 09:35

happy birthday t othe two birthday girls and hope you enjoyed your bath bigmouth.
dam i forgot to mention my MATB1 form yesterday! i am 24 weeks when is the cut of week for handing them to your employer?
mw appointment went well though my blood pressure is lower than before at a little 80/40, she said it was low and do i fele alright? i feel dandy! as long as i do not look down i dont feel pregnant!
mw said i should be feeling movement every day as of 26 weeks and will be having GTT at 28 weeks in July. blimey it is getting closer!

rosebury · 17/06/2008 09:38

Morning ladies hope people had good birthdays and great to hear news on scans are we heading for more girls than boys for october.

Risttimer please try not to worry everything will be ok with your baby boy.

I am looking at the dutailier nursing chairs that glide and rock I quite fancy one now as they are very comfortable and relaxing at the moment I am going to bed early not to sleep but because it is more comfortable. I have found some on the internet for £159 including footstool but you can pay up to £500 for better quality and multi positions. Anyone got experience or advice.

I now have to go and plant all of my bedding plants which I have had for over a month but I know all the bending is going to kill me off. see you all later.

hansnava · 17/06/2008 10:35

owww i think ive broke my little toe. was rushing to get dd ready for playschool this morning and stubbed it on the door frame my god it brought tears to my eyes. i then had to hobble the 25min walk to her school. its gone a funny shade of purple now.

its one thing after another at the minute.

hope evryone doing ok and having lots of kicks. my little one seems to have started kicking more in the past couple of days but they are really pathetic little taps like it really cant be bothered but its just doing it to make me not worry lol.

SmudgeyDoodle · 17/06/2008 10:51

Hi girls. Belated birthday wishes for yesterday Bigmouth and 07MTW.
About nursing chairs Rosebury. This is only my experience but they have some at the Surestart centre near us. I found them not particularly comfy to actually feed Ds as we tended to need more width so the arms were digging into my arms funny. They are very comfy though just as a chair!!
We had scan yesterday and all well. We didn't find out what it is so October will be a surprise. Baby wouldn't lie still so we were in there ages. It kept turning round and shoving it's feet at the scanner. The sonographer did comment on how big the feet were and that they were everywhere. She measured them and said "Wow, 4cm but the rest is all normal". DH were thinking about nicknaming it Duckling but decided that was cruel!
People who were talking about breathing. I found some aquanatal classes last time that were run by a midwife and she did breathing at the end of each session. I remember one of them (the panting bit) is like blowing out lots of little candles. Not sure whether it helped because I certainly wasn't thinking of candles when DS was born!!!

SmudgeyDoodle · 17/06/2008 10:52

hansnava - lemon drizzle cake to help your toe? (Marslady's recipe from this site and it really is yummy!). Also LOL at your LO that can't really be bothered!

sambrads · 17/06/2008 10:59
