Oooh pf I love the suggestion of having the mil at the birth, you are right of course, you wouldn't want her to miss it .

Just reading up about the likelihood of recurrent breech presentation.....seems the jury is out! Jerry is steadfastly staying in the same position. I am not optimistic....

Off to watch Lost series finale, catch you tomorrow ladies x

VintageGardenia · 01/06/2008 21:06

pf I have just sort of stretchy band things, belly bands I suppose (though what is it about the word belly that gives me the willies?). I got them in Top Shop, one white & one black, but they are just like lycra / t-shirt stuff, not proper physio ones. I couldn't go a day without wearing one at the moment, though. I got them to bridge gaps between clothes, but I feel sort of safe in them now. I have the same pelvis-quake thing going on, but also keep imagining this huge weight to be supported just by the skin of my stomach and I can't bear it! V suggestible, me. Is perhaps fuelled by the Return of the Stretchmark .

Sazz I heard about that book, in fact I think it might have been on a thread on MN, I must get it, I have nearly finished I Capture the Castle & want something really engrossing to move on to.

Buckets on the leaking front (oops), does this have anything to do with the actual milk, so that once you start bf, if you do, that you won't have the milk coming in, bullet boob, Marie Antoinette effect? Or is it unrelated? I didn't leak during first preg either but once I started bf I was like a sort of milk fountain.

I forgot to watch drama about Florence Nightingale this pm! Was on at 7, quite my cup of tea, grrr.

oopsacoconut · 01/06/2008 21:08

Sazzles - very of your cheese eating. DH brought some back from our weekend in Paris and having to resist eating smelly soft fab looking cheese when it walks towards the fridge door whenever i open it. If anyone fancy's the book Sazzles mantioned then let me know I have just finished reading it and don't really know anyone not PG who would want it.

Had a very lazy Sunday just eating and sleeping. Up early in the morning to see personal trainer at the gym at 8am then NCT classes at 10am.

VintageGardenia · 01/06/2008 21:11

Ooo oops I would love it but I'm in Ireland, how could we organise postage etc? Do you have a PayPal account that I could send money to?

oopsacoconut · 01/06/2008 21:16

VG -Just let me have your addy and i will post it on DH's company post then neither of us are out of pocket on postage!!

VintageGardenia · 01/06/2008 21:26

Ooops are you sure about that? That's really kind (of you and your DH obviously too!) and I'd absolutely love it. I would most happily send cheque / PayPal transfer / whatever if necessary. If you mail me at myvintagegardenia @ gmail.com then I will send you my address?

You are a star!

oopsacoconut · 01/06/2008 21:29

Yes VG it's okay - it's like having my own personal post office!! And as he's the boss as long as i don't take the 'p' i am welcome to it.

Will mail you now.

Buckets · 01/06/2008 21:53

Ooh I loved I capture the Castle! If you want engrossing, have you read Phillip Pullman's Northern Lights? My fave books of all time (my DD is actually called Lyra after the heroine.)

Re leaky norks, it's just colostrum, don't think it portends anything good or bad post birth.

VintageGardenia · 01/06/2008 22:24

Yes I adored the Northern Lights books. Believe it or not I haven't seen the Golden Compass film version yet. It's my first time reading I Capture the Castle, seems to be one of those books everyone has read at some stage, but I never did. I am loving it, I don't want it to end. I just love the narrator's voice. And considering when it was published, it reads so freshly. Love it love it love it. Reminds me of Cold Comfort Farm, do you know that?

Sorry - realise is not book thread.

oops have replied

TwilightSurfer · 01/06/2008 22:27

Evening all.

Captain, please keep me updated on what you find out regarding breech. I spent some time in the pool today. I was feeling better, almost as if the baby were nicely head down before I got in. As soon as I was submerged the baby began her kickboxing lesson...FOR THE WHOLE HOUR. Now I think she's turned a bit transverse again (both hips are hurting). It wasn't like I was moving around a lot in the water. I simply floated while DH and DD swam around and had fun. DH kept asking if I was alright...I guess I had that UNCOMFORTABLE look on my face.

As for preparing for the baby I thought of some serious things we should consider. Trash bags, dish soap or dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, toliet paper and paper towels....all should be in ample supply in our homes prior to the birth for that week after where we are clueless to all things in the world.

I also found some designer hospital gowns for anyone interested. This page will take you to available prints..click on one and you'll see the gown. For those that sew here's a site that has a free downloadable hospital gown pattern.

TwilightSurfer · 01/06/2008 22:28

Oh here's the hosptial gowns I just read about in one of my maternity mags.

OP posts:
poppysocks · 01/06/2008 22:41

Just popping back in, although haven't had a chance to catch up on ALL that I missed.

Congrats Hazie on your wee girl. Gabriella sounds lovely for her.

Buckets - I'm with you on the nork leakage. Had it last time too. Only a little so far, but will have to dig out the breast pads soon, preferably before the first embarrassing incident at work.

warthog - I am SO with you on the insomnia. I don't sleep brilliantly when not pg, but had a terrible stretch at about 28-34 weeks last time. Due same day as you and guess what, it started again last week. Horribly jumpy legs too. Trying not to assume toooo much that this is it for the next 6 weeks. Hard not to though.

Back from hols now - best weather of the whole fortnight as we arrived home! Hey ho. I ended up with a terrible upset tummy which ruled out the last part of the holiday. Also rather worrying re: pg, but DD2 was good at providing constant reassuring kicks but the cramping did get both me and DH worried at various points.

Back to work tomorrow. Joy. Oh well, hours cutting back from here on in and handover notes to write. All starting to feel rather real now....

TwilightSurfer · 01/06/2008 22:42

Here's as site with loads of cool maternity wear....scroll down and check out the MAMA SPANX pantyhose.

evening all am trying to catch up but am a bit pooped

another shift done and dusted, am only working late shift tomorrow night (have taken Wed off yipee) and then 3 or 4 earlies and I'm all done

loving the hospital bag suggestions ladies but you've all forgotten the champers!!!!

VG never apologise for book recommendations - I love a good read, spent £30 in Waterstones the other day and I only went in for a peek

dd2 was >11lb and if I go by the norm then I'll be up another lb so good lord that takes us to 12lb - am not sure the mars bar I just flung in for good measure will help though

Sazz well done you on the shootem ups! (reminds herself NOT to pass Sazz and airgun!)

welcome home Poppysocks! I've got season passes for Cairnie now so whenever you're free we can take the kids!

TS swim swim swim lady until she's the right way and stays there - I don't really know any other tips sorry!

buckets boobs are behaving themselves so far for me but I have been taking some advice on nursing bras and apparently we should be waiting until at least 38wks till we're measured - I've done this twice before ffs - why am I sooooo needy will all the questions this time?!?

warthog am sorry you're not sleeping, do you have anything that helps you wind down or relax at all?

dizzydixies · 01/06/2008 23:23

oh oh oh and I forgot to mention I DID get my lie in this morning. woke up at 4am when dh came home from work, apparently went to loo for a wee, spoke to him briefly then straight back to bed snoring like a bog eel again

slept till 10am, another wee, back to bed for some morning delight then told his I would take him out for his breakfast

got in the car and drove a mile to a burger stand thingy and bought him a bacon butty - see why my husband adores me!!!!! lol

off to work, kids brought back and dd1 still not great so they're sleeping now, hopefully through the night and I'll see how she is tomorrow bless her

pretty boring day but had its moments lol

miamla · 02/06/2008 09:31

VG there's something nasty in the woodshed... Hmm you'll either understand where my quote is from or you'll think I've completely cracked! Guess where my money is!

Morning all, I'm not sleeping too well either despite being shattered each evening.hey ho

I'm spending a day at home today waiting for various deliveries and gas men. I lead an exciting life but I did get to have a really long shower and all my bits are now shaven.I feel like a new women now I've removed my winter coat!

Oooo are we going off on a book tangent? I love books!! Unfortunately so does dp. Its only unfortunate because of the number of book shelves we need between us! Has anyone read "thirteenth tale", its by a new author (can't remmeber her name but I'll look on book when I go downstairs).reall beautifully written. My all time favourite is tess of the durbevilles.I felt so sad when it ended bacause I had to leave tess' world and go back to real life!

Dp being an absolute star at the moment..remenber he spent all weekend demolishing cupboards and the shower in what's going to be our bedroom? Well after his parents left he stripped all the wallpaper off the walls! swoon I'd agree to marry him if we weren't already engaged!

Deary me, I'm babbling again! I'd better let you all get on with your day

miamla · 02/06/2008 09:35

Ps TS and others having breech issues... I've heard that the alexander tecnique recommends a particular crawl motion and it has been proved to be pretty successful. There are four positions that you alternate between. See if you can google it, if not, I'll try and find the link for you

miamla · 02/06/2008 09:39

Pps forgot to say, people keep commenting on the size of me and how my bump's too little and I've got to make sure it grows more etc. Why do people say cruel things, I wasn't worried before but in the last week it seems to be all that I'm being told. They don't believe my reply of "perhaps I'm having a small baby"
Sigh

VintageGardenia · 02/06/2008 09:50

Oooh miamla Aunt Ada Doom! I am the only person I know who mutters darkly about the sukebind being in bud and now I know you are My Sort of Person. Haven't read Thirteenth Tale, nor heard of it. More info, please!

dd I've been there with the "just take a peek" and empty your purse. They have a new loyalty card now which is quite good. I hadn't heard a rule of thumb about 2nd babies. DS was 8-1 so I could count on a nine pounder?

Shazza2002 · 02/06/2008 09:52

Morning ladies

Nothing much to say just posting to get on the new thread. I found this one when I was looking at 'Active Conversations'. I must say I got a bit annoyed as wondered why there'd be another Due Aug thread, why wouldn't they want to join us? Then I realised it was us so panic over

Miamla - Please try not to worry about peoples comments, it seems when you're pregnant your body becomes public property end everybody feels like that have to comment. If they weren't saying your bump was small they would be saying "Are you having twins?" which is what I'm getting. It's like it's suddenly ok to comment on the size of your body because you're pregnant Sorry, rant over.

cyteen · 02/06/2008 10:12

LOL Shazza!

dizzy, what you forgot to mention was that that £30 was spent entirely on baby name books

Had an early start this morning - bloody cats went mental at 4.30am because of the dawn chorus. I love the fact that there's so much birdlife in the area by our new place, but it does drive the kitties wild - every morning when the birds start, both cats leap up and begin chasing each other around in a frenzy of kill-lust. I shut them out of the bedroom but then randomly got obsessed with all the little noises I could hear and convinced myself that it was burglars downstairs, so ended up lying awake till 7am and then dozing off just as we were supposed to be getting up.

The stupid thing is, if someone ever did break in during the small hours, we'd hear them straight away because the house is so creaky. Never mind, I spent an interesting couple of hours reading a Sheila Kitzinger birth book which was much more ranty than I expected

readyforbed · 02/06/2008 10:30

Stretch marks - didn't have any with 2 DS's and non as yet with DD1 to be (please don't shout at me). Is it still likely to happen? DH has made some - 'shouldn't you get some cream' comments (charming) but i have to say I had pretty much forgotten about the whole thing - just wanted to see whether I should still be massaging creams (do they do anything anyway?) like mad?!

VintageGardenia · 02/06/2008 10:53

I was laughing at Shazza too!

cyteen woken up by birdsong / catsong - sounds like a nice enough complaint I think! I had a S. Kitz. book last time round - I think called Ourselves as Mothers and I didn't get on with it very well at all, I found her very dry and unengaging, I was disappointed. I recommend Making Babies by Anne Enright (maybe I already have done so?) a lovely, truthful, funny journal of birth, new motherhood and general coping and understanding.

rfb I don't know if it means you won't get them this time round (you perfect-skinned wench!) but you may as well not take the risk? A good opportunity to get your DH to give you a nice massage with the cream. Tell him that some people have been known to get stretch marks across their shoulders & that he could concentrate there for a while!

Oh dear makes me think of all those book, and my yoga teacher, recommending the old perineal massage "If you can't reach, Just get your partner to do it, and gradually insert more fingers.. "
I'm surprised they don't sell some sort of speculum , the PerineaStretch2000 .

I suppose I'd want to get over my deep level of discomfort with my own body before Labour Day

PetitFilou1 · 02/06/2008 11:16

All you lot who actually seem to get time to read books I have had an Annie Hawes book on my bedside table for WEEKS and have only read about one chapter.

Btw Dizzy did you know you are named on the MNrs people would like to meet in RL on the thread in Chat (I would bow but you are obviously spending too much time on MN to notice )

VG I am wondering whether the bumpto3 belly vest thing is worth trying (would post a link but I have to get back to working!) The physio belt is def worth having.

dizzydixies · 02/06/2008 11:17

morning all

cyteen waterstones was all novels, it was Borders that forced me into buying the baby name books

was also awoken in early hours by farking dog barking at something - very unusual as she normally scares the cak out of herself barking and normally sleeps under myside of the bed (brave dog!) needless to say I ignored it on the grounds had anyone really broken in I was too tired to do anything about it unless they came upstairs towards the girls and anyone who takes on dd2 is frankly more stupid than me and completely on their own!!

dh home at 7am off nightshift and when dd1 got up her face is covered in terrible spots she had a rash going to bed but this is a whole different kettle of fish - have kept her off nursery and given her some calpol which has perked her up - was blackmailed into new Deigo DVD in Tesco (am such a farking soft touch) and Dr says its viral - tis not itching her but currently working its way down her body the wee soul - she hid behind me in the chemist as she didn't want anyone to see her face

happy enough now watching her new DVD and wants to make a cake for daddy after so can't be too bad!

wishing you all a lovely Monday, am late shift at 3pm then off till Saturday yipee
