I have a solution that helps heartburn. I had it terrible whilst pregnant with my ds. Drink Ginger Ale. Mine started at 26 weeks on holiday, and the air stewardess kindly recommended this to me. Go and try it.

Funny enough, they say that you get heartburn with hairy babies and boys, which was all true in my case. This time round I haven't (yet) had any, and I am expecting a girl... Do you think the old wives tale is right on this occasion?

Preggars · 16/02/2005 14:02

Poshpaws - I have the same breathlessness and pubic bone discomfort, as my little lady is in exactly the same position. DH said I was breathing quite heavily last night.

SamCattie · 16/02/2005 14:02

Little B - I may try aqua natal, sounds good. I can't complain as I wil try anything and waiting 9 months on the waiting list for phsyio is ridiculous!

Brighteyes · 16/02/2005 15:45

I'm another one suffering from everything in the book, backpain, insomnia, heartburn.
I've got something new to complain about today though - whiplash.

Some stupid woman in a 4x4 ploughed into the back on my car this morning . Thank God the baby is fine the adrenalin had him/her going crazy as soon as we were hit. My neck is killing though and giving me a sore head plus the car might have to be written off. Don't think I can deal with much more at the moment, I'm exhausted.

Luckly I'm finishing work in 3 more weeks. I will only be 31 weeks gone but my dp who currently works with me is leaving to start a new job so its easier for me to finish at the same time due to transport. At least I've got a nice long rest to look forward to.

Glad to hear you are ok Brighteyes. Must have been a shock for you. Make sure you rest XX

logic · 17/02/2005 09:46

Sorry to hear about your accident, Brighteyes. Glad that you're ok...

Uwila · 17/02/2005 11:30

Me too Brighteyes. Certainly that last thing anyone needds heading into the third trimester. But of course very glad everyone is ok.

I seem to be okay on heart burn. I just eat all the time... keeps th PH incheck.

But my tailbone hurts and migraines are determined to atay, although very mild so I guess that's good. Oh and I'm fat, but enjoying my food. yum yum... Speaking of which, I'm off for lunch with some pals in about 15 minutes.

Uwila · 17/02/2005 11:33

I had a GTT once. It's not bad. Rather boring actually. They gave me an orange pop (but extra sugar in it) then took my blood every 30 minute or so for the next four hours. The arm where she took the blood was a bit sore after all the jabs. But, shouldn't be so bad if you ask her to alternate arms.

I take it you are at risk for gestational diabetes? Must also be the reason for the growth scan?

maymum · 17/02/2005 12:45

Brighteyes - sorry to hear about your accident, but it's good to know you and baby are OK.

logic · 17/02/2005 13:15

I seem to be eating for England atm. I'm permanently ravenous and dh keeps buying me chocolate and crisps. Now I remember how I put on so much weight last time

We've just bought a graco baby swing and buggy board from kiddicare, the online nursery shop. They seem to be so much cheaper than the high street shops. We didn't have a swing last time so I hope the baby likes it. Anyone got any experience with them?

Poshpaws · 17/02/2005 13:36

Uwila, that's the thing about me. I am not overweight (in fact, lost LOADS this preganancy because of morning sickness), cannot STAND sugary things when pregnant so have avoided them like the plague. And I think the scan is more to do with the lay of my placneta than growth, although they will be checking it.

The second to last urine test they did showed a slight raise in my sugar levels, but the one I had done yesterday was perfect, so not quite sure why I am being put through this.

NOT looking forward to drinking the sweet drink as fear it will make me very nauseaus. Still, all for the good of the baby, sod mummy

Poshpaws · 17/02/2005 13:39

Logic,I LOVE kiddicare - and free delivery!!!

My sis has a baby swing to give to me. She thinks they are a godsend. And one of my best mates had one. S'posed to ease colic, aren't they? Anyway, nephew2 just loved swinging it it, so hope my littl'un will like it too.

Forgot to say, hope you are feeling ok and not too shaken up, Brighteyes

Uwila · 17/02/2005 13:45

I have a graco swing. They are very American thing. And, being American I insisted on getting one last time. It is a nice way to soothe baby and free your own arms. ANother wonderful thing for soothing the very young is those little boucy chars that vibrate. I lugged one back from the states in my suitcase only to notice a coupleof months later that they had started selling them over here. It is wonderful. Definitely recommend them for the early days.

SamCattie · 17/02/2005 14:07

Uwila I seem to be suffering from constant headaches at the mo. I try to only take a couple of paracetamol as a last resort. Has anyone got any natural remedies I can use?

fisil · 17/02/2005 15:39

Brighteyes, how are you? Sorry to hear about your accident.

Sam, are you drinking loads? I find my headaches only come when I have not drunk enough water. I am permanently thirsty and must drink several litres every day. Sometimes I just can't be bothered, and that's when I get headaches.

Being a 1st timer and new to all this....

Is it normal for your stomach to feel soooo stretched, just feeling really uncomfortable. Not sleeping well and then not getting back to sleep because of DP's snoring, bad back and sciatica. Was feeling really blooming and now feeling horrible and tired!

Glad baby's okay Brighteyes and hope you feel better soon!

Just bought one of those Graco swings 2nd hand from someone through work (American too!). Hope it is a good buy!!

logic · 17/02/2005 18:32

Sounds like the swing will be a hit anyway. Last time, a relative said that they would buy us a bouncy chair and obviously we were really pleased - until we found out that it was a really cheap one that didn't bounce at all and had hard metal bits that the baby could reach Sounds ungrateful but we would rather have had the money towards a better one! We couldn't justify buying a new one though plus we have cats and they used to brush around the baby at floor level.

My stomach is really painful at night too, fashill. The baby seems to do gymnastics all night long!

SamCattie · 18/02/2005 13:48

Well I have found out one reason why I am getting headaches. The gas men came round yesterday and told me I have a gas leak!!! They have turned off the boiler so no heating and no hot water. Not happy at all!

Noggermum · 18/02/2005 16:15

hello everyon, can I crash this thread? About me:

Age 34 (yikes)
Location - Leeds
Due 29/05/05 though should possibly be in June antenatal club as first child was two weeks late and I've no reason to expect any different this time!
other: one DD - 20 months. This one is another girl (apparently) DH not looking forward to the years of tampons tights and lipstick wars!
This pregnancy has been tainted by chicken pox issues so a bit worried baby may not be OK.

maymum · 18/02/2005 16:36

Welcome Noggermum! Of course you can join us. In case you haven't found it already, there is a brief intro from each of us at the start of this thread.

Sorry to hear about chickenpox issues. Did it all go on before 20 weeks or after? My friend came into contact with chickenpox at around 30 weeks, and wasn't immune, so she had a 'paed alert' put on her notes, so a paediatrician checked the baby carefully after birth. The baby is absolutely fine, now 4 weeks old and just gorgeous! I'm sure your babe will be fine too!

Noggermum · 18/02/2005 16:51

Worst thing about chicken pox Maymum is the inconsistency of advice given by med. profession. Acquired at 18 weeks, risk is up to 21 weeks; risks are limb defects, skin scarring, blindness/eye problems, deafness, genito-urinary probs, brain damage, and everything in between. All looks OK on scan (and baby def. growing!) but obviously scan cannot pick up mental probs/eye probs etc. 1-2% chance of defect - sounds small but its bigger than the 0% if I hadn't have caught this ridiculous disease!

logic · 18/02/2005 17:08

OMG SamCattie! At least it is switched off now. Do you have friends or relatives nearby who can let you use their hot water?

Welcome noggermum. Another girl yay! I can understand you being worried about the chickenpox but hopefully everything will be ok.

maymum · 20/02/2005 16:30

SamCattie - did you get your heating & hot water sorted out? I hope so!

SamCattie · 21/02/2005 13:54

Everything is now back to normal...thank god! Heating and hot water is back on. Saturday morning I had the lovliest, bubbliest bath EVER. NO normal service is resumed!!
