Hanlou007 · 19/01/2005 12:41

Due: 28th April but hospital put me back a week which make it the beginning of May
Children: None, this is my 1st but was a quailified nanny before for 15 years
About me: I am 30 (just)and have gave up work
Live in Huddersfield with hubby, married 3 months.
I think it's a girl, everyone else thinks its a boy...wont find out til it pops out...
It's great to hear a bit about all of you.

Plus dont understand what DD Dh etc stands for

logic · 19/01/2005 13:00

Welcome Hanlou007! You'll be able to give us expert advice about looking after the babies then...

Basically,
dh is dear/darling husband
dp is partner
ds is son
dd is daughter

At the top of the page, there is a link marked Acronym List which will tell you the whole lot.

Hanlou007 · 19/01/2005 13:02

Just hope i can handle my own as well as i did when i was a nanny...

Preggars · 19/01/2005 14:29

Uwila - are you there? I'm so excited about tomorrow's scan. Hope that we can find out the sex. However, first time around did have trouble seeing DS bits as he had his legs crossed so, as we really wanted to know they did an internal scan, which was - well not the kind of scan I had envisaged . Ho hum.

Uwila · 19/01/2005 16:40

Hiya preggars. I'm here, and also looking very much forward to tomorrow's scan. I'm going to be veryunhappy with the baby if it doesn't cooperate. Although, I think I'll stop short of the internal scan. Even I don't want to know THAT bad. However, if she tells me that she can't tell, I will get up, jump up and down, swallow and ice cube, poke him/her, slap my belly, and then ask the sonographer to try again.

Of course, after I do all that, I probably run the risk of being committed rather than scanned.

What time is your scan? We ar up at 10:00.

vicstervic · 19/01/2005 16:54

Have been AWOL for a few days. Looks like we're doing a quick get-to-know-you, so here's mine:

Name: Vic
Due: 20th May
Children: This is my first
About me: Work in the Head Office Marketing dept of a large bank, live SW London (Kew, just next to London)
Anything else: Found out at my 20 week scan that it's a boy! Having him at Kingston Hopital

Have been getting organised the last couple of weeks. Nursery furniture being delivered tomorrow, and chose pram yesterday (Mamas & Papas Pramette - converts from lie-flat rear-facing pram to a forward-facing pushchair). Would recommend kiddicare.com - much better prices than anywhere else I've found (e.g. the pram is £300 in John Lewis, £239 on Kiddicare).

vicstervic · 19/01/2005 16:55

Oops - meant that Kew was just next to Richmond, not London

fashill · 19/01/2005 17:41

Hi Vic

My friend had her daughter in Kingston hospital said they were really nice there!

So another boy! Can't wait to see about you two Uwila and Preggars!! :0

Brighteyes · 19/01/2005 18:07

Hi Vic

I have also decided to get the mamas and papas pramette. Unfortuantly kiddicare dont do the optic design but have found it for £250 with a free mamas and papas bouncer on a different site. Which design have you decided on?

fisil · 19/01/2005 18:34

I'm having mine at Kingston too! Had ds there too. It was really good.

vicstervic · 19/01/2005 19:14

Fisil - what a coincidence! Imagine - if you were late and I were early, our paths could cross..!

Brighteyes - I'll probably go for Chesapeake, which is a fairly classic navy/cream check. My boss (also due 26th April, Fisil!) is getting the same in Boston Check, and has ordered it from the Glasgow Pram Centre (good site) - £269 with a free crib bouncer thingy.

vicstervic · 19/01/2005 19:21

BTW, apparently M&P are soon to announce new fabrics for the pramette, for Spring/Summer, but I'm guessing they won't be available at such a good discount.

Holly290505 · 19/01/2005 20:07

I'm SO jealous guys! I want to know so badly whether this little one is going be a girl or boy but it wouldn't co-operate. I can't believe they gave you an internal to find out before Preggars! The sonographer just gave me an evil look and told me to be grateful the baby was 'perfect' (which I am - VERY!) and that it wasn't her job to do 'gender prediction'! So I guess we have an enforced surprise...

vicstervic · 19/01/2005 20:35

Holly, have you thought about having a private scan? Perhaps your baby would be feeling more co-operative, and also they tend to spend longer on the scan when you're paying!

Uwila · 19/01/2005 20:38

I think there are private clinics that offer a sex scan for around £100. Depends how badly you want to know, I guess.

Holly290505 · 19/01/2005 21:40

Think we're starting to get used to the idea of a surprise - even though WE want to know it'll be nice to be able to tell everyone after the birth! Also have other things to be spending money on right now!

logic · 19/01/2005 21:47

Don't worry Holly, it'll be a lovely surprise. Our sonographer told us that she thought it was a girl but by her face, we could tell that she really wasn't sure. Basically, we daren't go out and buy anything pink anyway!

fisil · 20/01/2005 10:52

Holly, we wanted a surprise last time, but by the time we popped out we absolutely knew he was a boy - without the benefit of a scan! So maybe it'll be the same for you too.

Vic, you'd have to be very early (although I fully intend to be late)! Are you going to the exercise classes? They are brilliant, I went last time and met a good friend, who is coming back this time with me (and this time escaping the toddler is high on our priority list)! There's a course starting this Saturday.

Holly290505 · 20/01/2005 11:07

A healthy one of either will be just perfect :-) (Am convinced its a girl though!)

Anyway on another note - have been trying to get mums/mums-to-be in my area together on another thread but have only come up with two of us so far. Anyone aware of MNs in South Wales that might have missed us??

And another note again - have been invited on an NCT weekend course which we would like to do but have been offered either mid Feb or mid March. Do you think we would get most benefit at 26weeks or 30/31 weeks? Or doesn't it matter?! Thanks!

logic · 20/01/2005 11:52

Holly, I think Brighteyes is in South Wales too...
I am from Llanelli btw but haven't lived there for 10 years!

I think that later might be better for the NCT classes because you'll remember it. Ours showed us a home birth video which was horrible but the real thing wasn't as bad as that!

Poshpaws · 20/01/2005 12:01

Did you have a homebirth first time around, logic?

Am I the only mum-2-b on this thread who is having one this time(2nd baby)?

logic · 20/01/2005 13:09

No, I had a hospital birth but it was in a cottage hospital, low risk unit. No serious intervention available and they deliver 2 babies a day on average It was great. I intend to go back there again but wait at home for longer this time and hopefully not stay the night. If I couldn't get into this place (because there was talk of them closing it) I would have opted for a home birth definately. Are you going to have a birthing pool? I think it would be lovely to have the baby at home.

northstar · 20/01/2005 13:30

I am definately having a hospital birth, i had a very easy normal labour with ds in hospital until he got very stuck and went into shock. Because of the gestational diabetes there is every chance that this one will get BIG too, so have to be in hospital for the event. I dont mind though as i really like our hospital and all the midwives are great.

LittleB · 20/01/2005 14:42

Holly, I'm like you, we really wanted to know the sex, I'd love to be able to get some clothes ready but don't know what colour! I even did the jumping around/poking/going to the loo bit , and it had moved but still hiding the relevant bits, wasn't offered an internal though - don't think I'd fancy it. Can't afford to pay for private scan as need to spend money on baby. We'll just have to wait and see, I do think its probably a boy though.

Poshpaws · 20/01/2005 15:13

I had DS in hospital and it was a wonderful experience. This time, however, I just really wanted to give birth at home (unexplained reasons, just a real desire).

However, I am fine with the fact that if all does not go to plan, I will be back at the same hopsital.

Logic, MW advised against me buying a Birthpool-in-a-box as someone who she helped deliver the night before she came to see me had not had much joy using it as every time she went to lean on it, water came out . Also did not want to hire a £300-400 pound one, because if things did not go to plan, it would have been a lot of money wasted. Can't afford the risk of wasting that much at the mo, as I do not qualify for SMP. I started my current job when unknowingly 6 weeks pregnant

Shall labour in the bath at home (as last time) and give birth on the bed or floor - lovely!!
