Hi

Couldn't see a Feb thread so thought I would start one as am so excited to get a faint but definately positive HPT.

Fertility friend estimates a due date of 4th Feb.

Unfortunately (or fortunately)am off this afternoon for a hen weekend in Barcelona the first holiday in at least a year and a half and can't drink. Ohh well will have to be the responsible adult..... Hence checking to see if up the duff before I went drowning myself in Sangria.

Hope to see some others on here when I get back!!! If anyone cares to join me?

I agree with IHASS, my dd is 9mo so she would go on strike if I stopped picking her up! But I would say to be careful, be gently to yourself, try not to carry dc for ages and ages in one go and maybe less chucking in the air etc!!

Newb · 03/06/2008 09:04

Morning all, hope everyone feeling OK today?

I called the doctor and they have booked me in for this afternoon. Eeek, had I known it would be straight away I would have groomed more thoroughly

What usually happens at the first appointment? What should I ask? And why am I so nervous!!

Thanks for comforting words of widsom...

Newb

ruthmollymummy · 03/06/2008 09:58

All the GP at my first appointment last time was ask if I had gotten a positive test and told me he wouldn't bother doing another cos he would just do the same test. Then he dictated a letter to send to get me registered at hospital/midwife and all that - but the worst thing was on the letter he said "I have a pregnant girl....."

GIRL! ok so I was only 20 - but I'm married, we got pregnant on purpose - I have a mortgage and a degree! but then again I don't think I'm a woman..... hehe, anyway. It was pretty boring to be honest!

Davidsmom · 03/06/2008 11:50

Hi Newbe,

My first visit was unexciting discussed LMP and which hospital I wanted referred to, she gave me a due date then agreed to se me through pregnancy as I couldnt make the morning the midwives were in. BP check and urine dipstick for protein etc.

Didnt get examined until I mentioned right sided tummy pain literally on way out the door. Was on couch, tummy felt and sent to the early assessment unit that afternoon before I knew what was happening (incase of ectopic) Bit worrying but did see little bean with heartbeat prob around 6 weeks then.

We were so shoked at actually seeing him that we forgot to ask for any photos etc

Hope it all goes well. My practice have told me to wait until 8 weeks to see anyone might book in for end of next week as will be 7 weeks.

Oh and Gp initially said when I said I was there because I was pregnant "Is that something you are happy about?"

Suppose they have to check before congratulating and arranging antenatal care etc but I didnt expect the question so was a little taken aback.

Hello everyone, is there room for one more on here? Just got a postive pregnancy result, due on 9th Feb or thereabouts! Will be my second, already have 19 month old DD. I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED Congrats to everybody else on their BFP's too!

MissMitford · 03/06/2008 13:44

I have a slightly off-topic question for all mums... what are the rules you followed about what to eat/not eat?

I'm getting totally bamboozled about what I can/not have. Like for example, it's our wedding on Sunday and we decided to have crab as a starter. Is that totally off-limits now?

I had some prawns and a couple of drinks over the weekend - I mentioned this to a pg friend and she looked at me like I'd just mentioned shooting crack into my eyeballs....

Any sensible advice would be ver welcome!

Tinasan · 03/06/2008 15:01

I think crab is ok, and prawns (as long as they are cooked). People have different attitudes to alcohol - many don't drink at all, and many have one drink every now and then. Any more than that would probably be best avoided. HTH

idontbelieveit · 03/06/2008 15:14

missmitford, cooked shellfish is all fine. Raw is not a good idea as food poisoning can be much worse when pregnant. You should also avoid cartilaginous fish like marlin, fresh tuna (although not canned for some reason) shark or swordfish (top of the sea fish food chain) as they can contain high levels of mercury and other toxins.
Here are some more comprehensive guidelines. Hope this helps.

NoNickname · 03/06/2008 15:17

MissMitford - it can be confusing, can't it? Especially as we hear all sorts from people all over the world. In the US, expectant mothers are told not to eat salami, smoked fish, etc., and in France, for example, they don't get told not to eat brie.

The Government's advice on wht to eat/avoid when you're pg is here.

NoNickname · 03/06/2008 15:18

Sorry, posted same link as idontbelieveit - am slow at typing!

MissMitford · 03/06/2008 15:24

Thanks Tinasan... and congrats! how are you feeling about number two?

goodtiming · 03/06/2008 15:38

picking toddlers up???? I am terrible and still balance a twin on each hip - should stop doing that.

wow a wedding - how fantastic - hope you have a fab day

I am so tired, why is it that you don't tell anyone but now is when you could really do with the help?

hope everyone is ok 5wks + 4days

oh I am seeing dr on thursday (nearly 6 weeks) because I have to see him before the midwife who I need to see between 8-10 wks - so complicated.

Newb · 03/06/2008 16:57

Thanks all. Well I went this afternoon and they were really nice, blood tests, weight (with shoes on - no woman needs to be subjected to that smear test, rectal exam (!) surely some parts are sacred......
....then ultrasound to, and I quote, "see if you really are pregnant!!!" he was putting a condom on a metal prod before I had time to be offended and there it was, tiny bean the size of a pinhead, happily lurking about in utero in its embryo sac or something . Can't believe DH and I can start the family album so soon!

Feels more real now. Surprised they did all that from what you have said. I wonder if the whole thing is quite medicalised here (Switzerland) I have to go for checkups every 4 weeks......

ChocolateEclair · 03/06/2008 17:22

Good lord! ! Think I might actually have fainted on the floor if they ad done that to me!!!! It must have been soooo lovely to see bean though!...I am slightly worried that this might happen to me tomorrow now! (but as I am in UK I think it's extremely unlikey!)

Davidsmom · 03/06/2008 18:42

Woooah. You got the works then!!!!

Noone actually ever examined more than my tummy never fanjo and definately not bottom during check-ups. Actually was due a smear during pregnancy but was advised not to have one as the hormones change something so may not be as acurate. Got about 10 reminders in 9 months never had any before got pg.

Did get the probe with condom on for early scan which made me laugh.

Hope you got a good pic- scan it in and we will see the first photo of LO on the thread!

Hope shock over now

oooo yes definitely put the pic on your profile! You can be the first to display!

MamaGoose · 03/06/2008 20:20

Hi

Wow - lots of people now!

Newb - you really got the full works!! Sounds like it is full on there! I think it is here too - I'm in Spain. I fear it's going to be quite a revelation after having my first two in London. My last one was a home birth - big baby, 9 and a half lbs - but it was a fabulous birth (apart from the pain etc). So to all those thinking about home birth, if you're low risk then I highly recommend it. It was particularly good after my first who was premature so loads of machines, flat on my back on a bed (ie the most painful and drawn out way to give birth!) resuscitation kit on standby, millions of doctors and my baby whisked away to neo-natal before I could hold him. But after the home birth, I really felt like some sort of super-woman. No-one hurrying you along. And of course, you're in your own home so NO INFECTIONS!

But here in Spain, I fear the worst. It's like Britain in the 1970s apparently - on the bed, epidural, routine episiotomy, stirrups and an astronomic c-section rate. Yikes.

idontbelieveit · 03/06/2008 20:36

mamagoose, sounds a bit scary!
Bloody hell Newb the most i got was a blood test last time. Am due a smear though....hmmm
5 weeks tomorrow for me, trying not to get excited but it's very difficult. Have now told my mum and sis (and their husbands) but am bursting to tell everyone....Think i'll find it even harder to keep quiet after appointment on monday.

herbgarden · 03/06/2008 21:14

Hello, can I join you ?? I've just come off the Temping Buddies Thread as I got a BFP in my work loo on Monday .....Luckily I work with my sister so I could tell her and met my mum at lunch, so told her (and DH knows obviously) but I am now v.v nervous about telling anyone else...

Due date is either 9 or 11 February 2009 depends on who you ask. I have a ds who is 23 months.

Davidsmom do you remember we were on the reluctant husbands thread?? Seems our reluctant husbands managed to get a bit of enthusiasm. We managed to up our bd last month from once to twice .....I fear he is quietly relieved.

Anyway, the last two weeks I've had headaches, upset stomach and today couldn't face my cup of coffee(decaff) which I usually have around 10ish.....down the sink it went. Haven't slept properly for 2 nights. Otherwise I don't have many symptoms but don't really remember having many last time tbh....

I am sooo worried about m/c - I'm 38 this year so it's a bigger issue for us over 35's.....so it's really nice to be able to chat with people on this thread without having to come clean to the world. I don't want to tell anyone. If all is ok though I have heard that you get bigger quicker with no 2 so hope I can still fit in my work stuff.....

Am in denial a bit and glad I'm working at least part of the week - makes the time go quicker !

Sorry will stop waffling now.

herbgarden · 03/06/2008 21:16

oh and very mild twinges and pulling type feelings in my groin area...had a lot of that last time - don't have very sore boobs though and I remember that last time they were hot and very hard #~???!

ruthmollymummy · 03/06/2008 22:34

I cannot sleep and reading your post has not helped Newb! My appointment is at 10am tomorrow so I'm now panicking about having to ensure I have tidy bits and pieces!
I'm so hot but with covers off am cold and I just cant get comfy - rather frustrated!

Davidsmom · 04/06/2008 01:36

Hi Herbgarden congratulations!!

Yes (RHS) reluctant husband syndrome I think it was- wondered how everyone got on on that thread- did post not too long ago for an update but didnt see any response. Great to hear it worked out for you. My DH is also (but not so secretly) relieved there is no "pressure to perform" now. You wait there will probably be complaints in the other direction later

I have just turned 39 so am also worried about M/C but have told a few people, probably a mistake but it just seemed to slip out.....

Ruthmollymummy- I have tried to sleep but am also too hot and DS been up twice already. Thought I'd come down and get a glass of water....then saw computer and thought I'd have a quick check of e-mails. Now been on computer for an hour

Davidsmom, hope you eventually got to sleep last night, I had abandoned the laptop by the time of your post and I think I was watching news 24, if that wont send you to sleep....

I'm so excited to see GP this morning - I wasnt this excited last time!!

Davidsmom · 04/06/2008 08:25

RMM-
Yes thought has crossed my mind once or a hundred times!
