Ah Ses we're all guilty of a bit of paranoia though aren't we?

LB that's good news about a little bit of money coming in, I don't know where we all are in the country, but I'd be up for a meet-up

kayzisexpecting · 23/10/2008 07:28

Morning,

Thats great news LB, at least you know now that you will be getting paid.

Sorky, I love the name. Its really nice. I have refused to think about girls names, I had a dream the other night the scan was wrong and we had a girl and we had no name for her at all.

I'm in North Yorkshire, I think most people are down south. I know Diege and Nat are over near manchester way!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 08:21

Morning

Ses, glad you got a rental car, well not glad that you had to, but glad you got something sorted! And agree about the paranoia, it is more than natural to feel like that, come Tuesday (is it Tuesday?!) the scan will be absolutely fine, and hopefully you can relax a bit after that, though the paranoia I don't think ever goes completely!

LB, that is great news that they have confirmed it - at last!

Sorky, am with you on difficult to buy for parents! It must come with the job

Yep, I am sort of near Manchester, meet up would be great, if I can get there, wherever it will be!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 08:23

Sorry just re-read that and it sounds like I meant the meetup would only be great if I was there, I meant, time/travel issues permitting, it would be great if I can get there!

That doesn't sound any better does it? Jeez, I hope you all know what I mean!!

GYo · 23/10/2008 08:24

Morning all - Hi Kay-

I'd be up for a meet up too. I am down south near to Gruff. Think Ses is close too. Perhaps we could have a N and S contingent! Shame it might be too difficult to all get to the same place....

Where are you LB?

I went to my first antenatal yoga class last night. Well, called yoga but not the kind of thing I know as yoga but it was very good, but all the discussion about breathing, birthing was rather alarming- reminded me that there will be a baby at the end of this!
Weird how you can get so caught up in being preg you forget about the end point

  • birth and baby !

Quick question to you all- yesterday I had a really low down pressure and almost pain when I walked (wasnt in my pelvis- definately from bump)and it felt like I was about to push bean out of my bum. Was a bit better for sitting down on the tube but made me feel really uncomfortable. Also came on after being sat at my desk all day. It comes and goes. Anyone else had this- perhaps its normal...?

GYo · 23/10/2008 08:27

Ses- sorry just catching up on last posts yesterday.

Feeling weird is really understandable, especially before the scan. Dont beat yourself up about feeling worried. Is your scan first thing in the morning or do you have to wait all day on Tuesday?

Nat- I know what you mean - doesnt sound weird!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 08:27

GYo, yep, completely normal, I think it is a form of BH, it is showing that your body is prepping for the hard bit! Also, as the baby gets bigger (and at your stage the baby is growing by the hour) s/he is obviously going to put more weight/strain on you.

Morning BTW

GYo · 23/10/2008 08:37

Morning Nat

Thanks- thought it probably was but I keep getting worried about incompetent cervix issues (no idea why!)

Sounds like good reason to have a lie down in the afternoon.

I had a browse in M&S at baby clothes this morning - so many cute newborn items in neutral colours might buy something after the scan in 2 wks

tinkisgoingtohaveapumpkin · 23/10/2008 08:56

morning

sorky - you are like me into unusual names very pretty
any suggestions for me?
dd1 is called atlanta
names for new dd to go with it?

lb - glad that you are getting money

i am 28 weeks today have midwife @ 2:15pm
we are off int otown in a min so that dd can run around

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 09:10

GYo, M&S's baby clothes are fantastic (IMO) they wash brilliantly, most of them can be tumble dried, and best of all they aren't too expensive! The only thing I have found with them (throughout the store really - except school uniform) is they come up very big, especially the trousers, I have memories of DS2 with M&S footed trousers twice as long as his legs! His feet were where the knees should have been, and whilst he didn't/doesn't have the longest legs in the world, they certainly weren't that small! In fact the only shop I avoid for baby clothes is Mothercare, the are sometimes ridiculously expensive, but they wash terribly. I don't mind paying more for good clothes, but I wouldn't buy them there!

Tink, how about something Greek to go with Atlanta? Can't think of anything off the top of my head, but I know I have seen some lovely Greek names that sound as pretty as Atlanta.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 09:18

Some Greek ideas here

GYo · 23/10/2008 09:25

Thanks Nat- good to know about M&S clothes and also mothercare. I would never know otherwise.

Will go to a store with proper size baby dept to look in a few weeks.

Was told my bean was long at 12wk scan (not surprising given me being tall) so maybe long is good! Will see if its still long at 20wks

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 09:42

Ooooh, shall I do a little baby clothes round up? Not gonna wait for an answer!

Gap, mostly always come up small, sometimes very small, their darker coloured t-shirts fade around the necks and cuffs quite quickly, so I avoid them, other than that they are good, really good for older kids jeans as well, DS1 has never gone through the knees on a pair of Gap jeans! Oh, and also they are really good for baby socks, they have a roll down part on which means they are more difficult for a wriggling 3 month old to get off! Also good for vests.

Next, I am always torn with them, they do some lovely quality items, and some really horrible items, t'is pot luck in there, though their sizes always seem to be bang on. They used to be a lot more tumble drier friendly as well, most of it has plastic type transfers stuck all over them now so they can't be tumbled. Their vests and sleepsuits are very good.

Debenhams, depends on the designer, Junior J stuff always comes up small, John Rosher's can come up quite big (again, especially the length of the trousers) Red Herring stuff is spot on, all washes really well, but mostly can't be tumbled. Oh, St. George by Duffer is really nice as well, if you can get over the colours!

Adams, used to be good, but are crap now.

I can't think where else I'd buy from.

Oh, Woolies are good for charactor clothing when they are a bit older, but have found their 'normal' clothes aren't much good, though haven't actually bought any of their normal clothes since DS1 was tiny.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 09:43

Oh, how could forget good old Mammas and Papas? They are fantastic, but pricey, worth it though.

Diege · 23/10/2008 09:44

Morning! Meet-up in North sounds good, although I am limited to public transport! Would be great to finally put faces to names .
GYO, yes, sound like Braxton Hicks to me - perfectly normal.
Love your names by the way TINKS (and yours too SORKY). My 3 dds have borderline unusual/very unusual names, and if another girl it would wither be Matilda (Tilly) or Saffron.
Have a bit of a dilemma on my hands (have posted a separate thread too). Had call from EPU asking me to come in for a scan (am just 5 weeks). I told recpetionist I would ideally prefer one around 7/8 weeks and she's going to speak to nurse and get back to me. Should I hold out for later one? My thinking is that a 5 weeks scan wouldn't tell me much, other than get me onto that rollar coaster of weekly scan worries. She's ringing back if nurse doesn't agree to later scan, so any advice would be appreciated!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 09:51

Mamas and Papas!

Diege, I think firstly you are a lucky so and so having them chasing you up! I would ask if they'd be prepared to scan you at 8 weeks regardless of whether you have one at 5 weeks or not. If they'd agree to 5/8/12 weeks that'd be perfect!

Obviously you'll know they likely won't pick up a HB at 5 weeks, but they will be able to see that everything is forming correctly, and that the baby has bedding down well etc.

If it is 5 weeks or nothing, maybe then look at a private scan at 8 weeks?

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 09:56

"Obviously you know they likely won't pick up a HB"????? WTF?? LOL Sorry, obviously have pg brain very badly this week. Have already sent my nephews bday cards with no stamp on either of them! And managed to ruin DH's loveingly prepared cassarole by leaving it out of the fridge, all day, in front of me, everytime I walk in the kitchen!! LOL

Diege · 23/10/2008 09:57

Well have just had a call back and they've booked me in for 2 weeks time. I'll be about 7.5 weeks then. Should I be able to see a heartbeat? . Agree NAT, have my notes been sent to local BUPA by accident?

GYo · 23/10/2008 10:01

Excellent - thanks Nat for clothes info. Just the kind of thing I need as a newbie

Any experience with John Lewis? Doesnt seems as pricey as I expected so thought I might look...

Diege- great that they have chased you! Why not go along and see what they say, they might invite you back for a scan in 2wks to confirm viability- that?s what they did with mine? - either way- hope it helps you out.

How is nausea today?

Thanks for BH re-assurance Diege and Nat- kind of suprised that its that but better its got a name than just weird pain!

GYo · 23/10/2008 10:01

Ah just seen your update Diege- great news. Sounds like good time for a scan!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 10:02

You should be able to, I think they say it can be seen from 6-8 weeks, so you'd be in the latter stages of that obviously. Very exciting, but nerve wracking as well no doubt.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 10:04

Oh yes, John Lewis is great as well, I have only had a few bits from there because I find it very difficult to get to a store so order online mostly, and they don't have a big range on line, but the things I have brought from there have been really good.

Diege · 23/10/2008 10:04

Hi GYO - have got 7 weeks scan booked now so happy with that . Sickness is same, slightly worse, but manageable with porridge and grapes. I havn't been sick yet, and am trying not to be, as remember last time that the once i'd actually been sick with dds I couldn't stop. I know people say all-day nausea is worse, but I'm sorry, lying on bathroom floor all day bringing up bile and blood is worse for me! (apologies if TMI at breakfast!).

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/10/2008 10:29

Fingers crossed the sickness doesn't get that bad again Diege, agree with you, that sounds a lot worse than all day nausea!

Well, I suppose I had better get up and do something, not sure what to do, but can't sit around here all day!

GruffaloSoldier · 23/10/2008 10:57

Hi all

Im 15 weeks today

Thanks for that info diege - was just tucking into some shreddies

Thanks for clothes round up NJ - what about Tesco/Sainsburys/Asda?

I bought some great baby socks from Lidl yesterday, 2 pairs for 99p! Really nice actually, quite chuffed! Also bought 3 baby vests at the weekend for £1.75. Im only allowing myself some cheap bits at the moment!

Tink I actually think Willow Bracken sounds better. Just seems to flow easier. But hey what do I know?

Well Im in my pjs again with no immediate plans to change. Got fleece dressing gown on with fleece blanket wrappe round me and heating on. Sooo cosy
