Hiya Cosmo, glad the sickness is dying down, heres hoping the nausea sees fit to bugger off as well

GYo has the right idea about ante-natal classes IMO, they are good for meeting other mums, but if you are going for practical reasons (i.e. to 'learn' how to care for a newborn) TBH, you will be much better off talking to other mums, and going with your instinct when your baby is born.

There are two sides to the coin, on one side you will get lots of varied (very varied at times!) "advice", which is good, on the other side, you have to pick through the advice and work out what's right for you and your baby. If you go to classes, because a 'profesional' has told you how to do a certain something, you will try to do it that way, and sometimes it just isn't right for either of you, and then you feel like a failiure. But it isn't anything to do with failing, more just that every mum handles different things differently, and so do their babies. There are no 'one size fits all' scenarios.

GYo · 08/10/2008 08:28

Hi Gruff
went onto the NCT website last night classes in our area cost from 159 to 219!!! depending on intensity

I've registered interest for Feb classes - aimed at March deliveries but not sure how strict they are regarding that....

Dont have to pay anything yet anyway... but seems registering way ahead is requried

got to go but back later

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 08/10/2008 09:51

cosmo- nice to see you, my sickness is kinda under control, been almost permanently off the meds for the last 3.5wks now, and although i have some bad days that just consists of being sick a couple of times in a morning and feeling awful and sicky the rest of the day. Hope yours wears off soon... i feel almost normal most days, and most afternoons, its just the mornings that are a pain in the bum!!

Cosmogirl · 08/10/2008 11:24

Hi Glask - oh that is good - glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. I only took those meds for one week and they made me so drowsy and depressed I stopped taking them.

Now I am having some days where I'm not sick at all - others I can be sick a couple of times. But like you, the awful sicky nausea feeling still hangs on like a bad smell!

Think I reached a new low last night. I had chicken pie and beans for dinner and threw up part way through, then carried on eating . Bit gross, but felt all right after I'd been sick and though what a waste to not finish the dinner!

Think the baby must have a sweet tooth because anything sweet, chocolately and sugary seems to stay down.

GYo · 08/10/2008 15:54

Hi Cosmo
tHere is supposed to be an old wives tale craving sweet stuff means one sex and sour/ salty stuff means the other. Cant remember which way it goes though!

are you going to find out the sex?

Cosmogirl · 08/10/2008 15:57

Hey,

Yeah think we will find out if Dr is able to see the bits. I am too curious and would kind of like to get used to the idea of a particular sex too. How about you?

I have heard that wives tale - if it's true I will be having a girl for sure!

GYo · 08/10/2008 16:08

Hi-
Cool. think thats a good reason to find out...

We always said we wouldnt find out but Im waivering now! Got idea that its boy from early on, although i have no real preference, and DH thinks we should find out so we can get used to idea one way or other!

We will prob decide 2mins before the scan! I too am ultra curious and think it would be good to get mind around it either way.

Now speculating re heartrate speed, cravings, lack of proper morning sickness (sorry!) LOL

Cosmogirl · 08/10/2008 16:19

Don't apologise! I am so pleased you've not had bad MS. Think I'd swap any other symptom for this right now, but having said that it has pretty much been my only symptom [no headaches, sore boobs etc...] Just wish it wasn't so damn all-consuming.

Getting a small bump now and starting to think about feeling baby move soon, so as I have other things to focus on maybe the sickness will slowly fade into the background?..

GYo · 08/10/2008 16:33

I reckon you are right on edge of feeling different. Im just about feeling movements which is amazing. Heard HB yesterday at MW and that was quite something, so I've just ordered a doppler.

I cannot imagine how debilitating the nausea/ sickness is. On the days i did feel rough, its hard to do anything. Fortunately was never severe. But do noticebably feel better now without any phases of feeling sick for a good 2 wks now.

Tiredness is another thing ....

Roll on those first movements and next scan!

Cosmogirl · 09/10/2008 09:48

I will second that GYo! Feel like I am wishing the time away, but oddly it seems to be going quick and slow all at the same time.

Dew on the grass this morning - looks all wintery out there.

Cosmogirl · 09/10/2008 09:50

It is my birthday on the 18th Oct and I would soooo like to be sick-free by then....

GYo · 09/10/2008 11:01

OOh not long now then til your birthday. Do you have any plans?

Cosmogirl · 09/10/2008 11:23

Nah, not really. Before preg I was planning on going to London for a nice meal, see a show etc... but feeling like I do, I'm just not ready for that yet. I actually have a midwife appt at 4 pm, so maybe we will get to hear the heartbeat....or I might just celebrate by having a needle stuck in my arm! Either way, I think it is going to be a bit of a non-event sadly!

Are you back at work today? Feeling any better?

GYo · 09/10/2008 12:00

LOL I know what you mean about not feeling up to it... pregnancy really takes its toll!

Slightly better thanks for asking following a lot of sleep but still not great, drs appt later to check not got chest infection.

Might try and work later but will see think definately worse for being pregnant- which seems crazy - but usually im better in 24hr with this kind of thing..

Cosmogirl · 09/10/2008 12:22

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. You've done really well to have hardly been off work with this pregnancy. I felt very guilty about the time I've had off and at some points have felt I should give up work all together. It is certainly not easy, but then, maybe it is giving us a taste one what is to come when lo arrives.

Nearly the weekend though thank goodness .

kayzisexpecting · 09/10/2008 21:45

Good evening!!!

It feels so strange being back but in a good way.

9 weeks until D-day!!! No one I knowexpects me to last that long. I'm getting tempted by asking my GP to sign me off work a couple of weeks early as I'm meant to working up to 37 weeks and I don't think I'll manage it at all.

Cosmogirl · 10/10/2008 09:54

Hi Kayz,

Good to see you again. My goodness, I can't believe you've only got 9 weeks to go - that is so soon! You are very brave to be working up until 37, I think I will finish around 34 or something.

Have had a pretty tough time of it so far (currently 15 weeks and still suffering from sickness and nausea). Look forward to seeing you around more often.

Cosmo x

kayzisexpecting · 10/10/2008 10:00

I don't feel too brave TBH. I'm only doing 4 hour shifts now and they are exhausting me.

Sorry you've had bad sickness. I hope it wears off soon.

GYo · 14/10/2008 08:22

Morning all , gone a bit quiet on here again

How are all the pregnant wagonners? Maybe everyone is sitting on the wagon sofa stuffing choc bars

Quick update- realised that I REALLY look pregnant- probably not that surprising for 18wks (18wks today!) but still- sounds silly to say I didnt expect it but I didnt, literally just popped out between last wednesday and yesterday. My DH keeps looking and me and pulling a face! Everyone kept saying that i'd hide it well with being quite tall and having a long body so kind of thought I'd get away with it til xmas time....

Also had been feeling some odd movements but wasnt really sure but last night I felt full on wriggles- really amazing but also bizarre at the same time

GruffaloSoldier · 15/10/2008 19:16

Wow Gyo, that sounds really exciting! I cant wait to be showing/feeling baby! I am 14 weeks tomorrow, hopefully not too long to wait.

I have still got my cold but have the next week and a half off work so Im determined to relax, have some me time and get over it

GYo · 15/10/2008 22:05

hello again gruff
wow 1.5wks off work sounds fab. Sorry about cold. Hopefully better soon.

Can't believe ur 14 wks! Think I first looked differnt at 15 wks then suddenly in last wk its changed!

Re nct classes , I got a msg back to say I was on the list for feb in our area. Not sure what that means but still!

GruffaloSoldier · 15/10/2008 23:02

Hee hee Gyo, I seem to be stalking you (albeit a little delayed!)

Thats cool about NCT, I guess I should wait until 16 week check although I suppose it cant hurt to look in to it. A bit worried about the cost too, it's quite a lot isnt it?

Re: bump. My belly is def changing, although I think it might just be food fat

GYo · 16/10/2008 08:32

Hi Gruff
Its loads of money for our area. I searched on here about NCT classes and there is a lot of threads about them, some saying its the same info as the NHS ones, some saying its fab, others saying its not so fab.

I am keen re meeting other people or we could start our own unofficial MN NCT
