OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Dozymare · 10/06/2008 19:31

Thomasina sorry didn't reply...not to sure about the cervix...were your cells abnormal last year then???? Maybe you should start a post in the pregnancy thread as I am sure someone will come along who has experienced this...

misdee · 10/06/2008 19:36

i still look fat lol.

i took part in race for life on sunday, just walked it, but was good fun.

i was very surprised today at how high up they did my scan. am 16weeks-ish. baby looked good, heart all fine (was the cardiac one at eveline/st thomas'), and have to go back in 6 weeks for a follow up but consultant was very happy.

got my 20 week scan in a few weeks, so get to have another look at the baby soon.

thomasina1 · 10/06/2008 20:21

Thanks DM. Got your friend request on FB by the way!

I have done a search on mn and there's a fair amount on the cervix business already so I'm not going to bother posting again. Yeah, had abnormal cells this time last year but they were removed and all is fine now (had a smear in Jan). So good timing for the pregnancy! However the removal procedure has a 1 in 50 chance of causing an "incompetant cervix" which can lead to late miscarriage so I found out today! I did kind of know when they did it but clearly didn't really pay attention back then! Anyway, hopefully all will be fine, I am having a scan next week to check the length of my cervix, I think to see if a stitch (urgh!) is necessary. Am feeling a bit paranoid though now... will be taking it v easy over the next week. Not so easy when DH has a broken arm but that's another story!

bubbaz · 10/06/2008 21:12

Hope everything is OK Thomasina.
My bump is the complete opposite its all up top and goes in at the bottom. Smeone asked me at work today if I was leaving soon and when I said I was due in Nov he said f*ing hell your huge - Yeh thanks for that. Pinkali and Drs wife your bumps look lovely and neat .

MerryMarigold · 10/06/2008 21:15

thomasina - wow, it's amazing you went through all that scare last year, and now you have a little bun in the oven!

DM I can sympathise with the bump situation. I was huge last time, I am a lot huger this time. I look like term too. I am larger than my friend who is due mid July!

Feel a little overwhelmed today. Had a difficult week, trying to get stuff done in our house in order to potentially sell it, and the people doing work just don't seem to be able to do the jobs well. It's really disappointing when it's so blimming expensive. Just feel like I really don't want to move house, we moved when ds was born and it was complete nightmare (we exchanged contracts literally the day he was born) and I don't want to go through all that again. The diffiulty is that you just can't predict when things are going to happen, so I have to be prepared that it may be 2wks after I give birth, or 2 wks before, or even a month after. I thought I'd figured out how to stay here, but people keep saying I need to move and pointing out how impractical our house is at the moment - arghhhhhhh.

OK, moan over. So we have a few 20wk scans tomorrow, don't we? Good Luck with them all...and look forward to catching up tomorrow night.

Yorky · 10/06/2008 22:31

Good luck with your cervix Thomasina

I have had a good day today, rang the local midwife led unit to see if they'd let me deliver there instead of big hospital and the midwife I spoke to couldn't understand my midwifes attitude to GBS at all and said I could still have a home birth, it just meant I wouldn't be able to have the IV antibiotics, which I wasn't convinced I wanted and she didn't seem to thin were a big deal - in fact she made a point of saying they can cause complications by pumping a massive dose into a not even born yet baby.
SO reassured by her positive attitude, and the relevant and recent knowledge/experience shes drawing on. Feel much better now, she doesn't think I am being stubborn and risking my baby. Feel sorry for my MW at my appt tomorrow when I will tell her I'd rather go back to plan A - nice natural homebirth, thank you. No drugs unless something unforeseen rears its ugly head.

MM I can completely relate to how unpredictable things are. DH starts new job in September, well, training course anyway. The baby is due in the last fortnight of it so he won't be able to take instant paternity leave like he did last time, although he can have a day off for the birth! He will find out half way through the course where his next job will be, I'm assuming it will mean moving, but it takes a month at least for the paperwork to get a new house and if its too far away from DH on his course then I won't move before the birth anyway as DH just won't get there. So looking at moving over Christmas with an under two and a tiny. Am I mad? It will be poor DSs 4th address before his 2nd birthday
Why exactly am I trying to convince my mum she wants to visit her best friend in NZ for the Christmas holidays?

twinklingfairy · 10/06/2008 23:33

I had my scan today and I have sometihng else still in there with baby It doesn't seem to be affecting baby who was happily kicking and waving but it is a lump kind of a thing and they don't know what it is.
They were aware of it last time, they tell me, and are now waiting another two weeks for me to get my bloods checked for DS and Spina Bifida likelyhood, from there we can make decisions, apparently.
Poor DH. I am never a worrier, they weren't seeming worried by it so I won't, but poor DH is a worrier and will be sending himself into knots with this.

My sister was looking after DD whilst we went to the scan but we just told her and her BF that things were fine with baby, omitting to tell them about 'the thing'. Same with the neighbour. It feels very weird not to just tell these people, who I would normally, but DH just couldn't have coped going through it all too many times. Will tell my mum and sis tommorrow though, when DH won't have to sit through their worry on top of his own IYSWIM.

Am liking the pics of neat bumps. I feel like I am as big as you guys but I am only just hitting 16 weeks, I guess thats cos it is my second though? I still haven't managed to upload my 12 week scan and todays pic wasn't a great one. Is it Vista that is screwing it all up??

Yorky · 11/06/2008 06:51

Oh TF, I'm glad you're managing not to worry, as you say your baby is OK, but I can understand your DH being confused/worried/not understanding what the thing is. Good look with the extra tests in a couple of weeks, maybe you'll get more scans - I wanted more than the 2 I had last time but there was no reason

Dozymare · 11/06/2008 07:33

Morning All,

Twinkling sorry to hear about your scan yesterday, I can sympathise as we found out there was something wrong with DC1 at scan...I then made the mistake of googling it and it is absolutely the wrong thing to do as all I found were stories of doom and gloom and death. This absolutely freaked me out but the eventuality was that DC is fine. Has had to have a few op's but is still a beautiful healthy child. I know that might not help you and your DH but if there is anything wrong, it is better to find out before IYSWIM so you can prepare yourself for any op's. (just don't google and listen to the experts). DC was in SCBU for 2 weeks which was awful but you get through it. I hope that this post doesn't upset you, I just wanted to offer some comfort as I can imagine how upset you must be feeling. Hopefully things will be fine and dandy and is just one of those things. Huge Hugs xxxxxxxxxxx

Dozymare · 11/06/2008 07:34

PS you have put "DS" did oyu find out you are having a boy???!!!!

bubbaz · 11/06/2008 07:45

twinkling glad bub is ok and hope the other is nothing to worry about. fingers crossed for you you do have an amazing positive attitude .
PS I also have Vista and cannot upload a thing onto here!!

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 08:56

Morning all

I haven't been on for a few days and am too overwhelmed by all this chat to respond to it all!

Just wanted to tell you about my wierd dreams last night. Yet again I dreamt about someone elses baby - no idea whose though - and thankfully this one didn't die or die and then come back to life!

Then I dreamt that I had given birth although no sign of a baby and I was worried about my down below and my big tummy but not only was my down below fine but my tummy was flat and smooth which it wasn't even pre-pregnancy!!!

Hope everyone is ok. Twinkling sorry to hear your scan wasn't perfect but it sounds like baby is ok so thats a good sign!

Good luck to everyone else who has 20 week scans this week. Mine is tomorrow. Eek!!!

ceebee74 · 11/06/2008 09:21

Morning all

Twinkling - glad your little bubba is ok and I really hope whatever else is in there is nothing serious!

Chocorange - was wondering if you had gone on your holidays yet and then you appear! I wanted to ask you who the support act for Boyzone was and are they worth watching? Just trying to plan what time to get there!

Yorky - good news about your GBS - it really does show that it depends on who you speak to doesn't it which is wrong!

Hi to everyone else

x

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 09:24

ceebee the Boyzone support acts were quite horrendous. Some awful girl whose name I didn't even get and then a boyband who looked about 12 years old but they weren't so bad although I'd never heard of them before. They come on second though so you could miss the beggining.

Going on holiday on friday morning so by the time I get back I expect there will be a new thread!

Dozymare · 11/06/2008 09:44

Hi chocorange can't believe you are off to sunny climes this week - bet you can't wait!!!!!!! My advice is make the absolute most of your last holiday as a couple for a very long time!! family holidays are fabulous as well, but enjoy the lack of responsibility while you can! I wish someone had told me that before we had our kids!!!

Who else has a scan today? Are you finding out sex??????

DM x

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 09:53

DM we are going as a last treat to ourselves - as our bump was a suprise I was a bit panicky at the beginning about all the stuff I wanted to do before having kids and missing out on all the places I want to travel - especially because we had to cancel a holiday to India when I was 8 weeks. So in order to calm my fears and splash out one last time we decided to go to Barbados. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

I know we will of course have holidays with a baby but they will be different and for a few years probably not too long distance so I feel like we needed one last treat just as a couple.

We're not finding out the sex, I like surprises!

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 10:04

morning all
lol you lot were chatty yesterday. I've read it all and can't remember anything.

twinkling, I hope everything is OK, and am amazed by your calmness. I would be worrying myself to death personally, but as you say if the hcps are being calm about it....I hope you get some answers quickly.

chocorange.....remember to up your sun protection; your skin can go a bit loopy with the hormones and can tan/burn much easier than when you aren't pregnant. You can also get (thankfully only temporary) sun spots that look like age/liver spots so get the factor 50 out for your face ...and enjoy your holiday unfettered with all the baby paraphenalia that will be your holiday life from now on

DD had her hib meningitis booster yesterday and had a bit of an unsettled night so is a grumpy little madam today...as am I with my lack of sleep due to her unsettled night!!

yorky, good news on the birth scenarios. Would you not prefer to be in the midwofe led unit though so that perish the thought there was a probelm with the baby you could transfer quickly to the consultant led unit?

I don't envy you moving at Christmas. WE did it when we moved in here; the table for the Christmas tree was some still full storage boxes!

and the rest has escaped from my seive like brain

have a good day everyone and good luck for all the scans!!!!

xoxo · 11/06/2008 10:35

Hi, can I join in?

Just rejoining MN after a few months lapse (no excuse, just life). We have two LOs already DS (5) and DD (3. almost 4) and we are gobsmacked to find that I'm pregnant again, due 20th November. Courtesy of the coil, I might add.

So - here we go again......

Pregnancy going well, my age (40) and suprising start notwithstanding. Starting to believe it is real and beginning to enjoy it.

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 10:54

hi xoxo and welcome to the thread. Another accidentally third timer here too. My DD is only just a year old though . I'm also of advancing years and will be 40 next February. I'm feeling surprisingly sprightly though.

I'm not feeling a great deal of movement at the minute; in fact I can't remember when I last felt anything. I'm trying not to worry about it, but it's very hard not to. Wondering whether to call the MW and ask if she can check me over....but I'm sure she thinks I'm a fruitloop already let alone a paranoid worrying fusspot into the bargain!

LolaBella · 11/06/2008 10:55

Hi xoxo and welcome
Just find the stats thread and add yourself on.

My scan tomorrow too. Ahh.

Chocorange and Heartmum what time are your scans tomorrow? mine is at 11.45 and yes we are finding out the sex - well as long as bub doesn't have their legs crossed

I'm so jealous of all your hols coming up. I don't go until August

LolaBella · 11/06/2008 10:59

LackaDaisy my movements are on and off too. Sometimes i can't feel anything all day and then i get paid back when i go to bed!! Maybe your baby has moved into a different position where you can't feel it as much. My baby always more active when i lay down on my back so you could try that. But if you are still worried i would def call MW just for reassurance - do you have a doppler?

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 11:03

thanks lola . I've been really busy as well with DDs birthday so I've probably just not noticed

I don't have a doppler, and not sure where I can get hold of one at short notice. I'm having a calm day today so if I don't feel anything, I think I'll call the MW or GP in the morning and see if they will let me pop in for a listen.

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 11:04

Lola my scan is at 9am - I hope the baby plays ball as I have such a busy day tomorrow!

I am also STILL very jealous of those of you who have felt movements. I am 19+4 and still not felt anything. Can anyone reassure me this is normal please??

Oblomov · 11/06/2008 11:13

Welcome Xoxo. misdee I am feeling very fat
renaissance how is your dh doing ?
Thomasina are you now 'informed, and are you o.k. about your cervix ?
MerryMarigold you are just a nutter for moving the week of giving birth
Yorky I am pleased you got better advice from another MW. It just goes to show how one person can make you feel so much better about it all.
Twinkling I am so sorry to hear that there is 'something there' along with bubba. Goodness me, after everything you have been through. Hope you get this sorted/answers soon.
lolabella & LackaDaisy, I think I may have felt my first movement , as I was driving the other day. Only the one though. And I am not sure. Some people recognise their movements so easily.

Oblomov · 11/06/2008 11:19

Choc, very normal. They say 18-20 weeks for 2nd time mothers. First timers, of which I put myself back in this category, because I am so very very crap at interpreting/recognising the signs, are not expected to recognise them till later.
