Our shiny new thread!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Oblomov · 11/06/2008 11:22

Everyone, please don't worry about not feeling movements. It is still very early.
LackaDaisy DO NOT WORRY

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 11:23

chocorange..I'm sure I was around the 20-22 weeks mark with DS.

I just felt something. I have just had a huge swig of diet coke then..boom . Although not sure I should be grinning at the effect caffeine has on my unborn baby

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 11:25

hi oblomov
how are things with you and the diabetes clinic? are you still trawling into (was it?) kings every other week?

Oblomov · 11/06/2008 11:37

Hi LackaDaisy.
Diabetes is very good , has been throughout this pregnancy. Don't want to tempt fate though. But last time it was very bad, even before this stage.
Yes, I am still going up to Kings evey 2 weeks. I am going on up next week, and then on 1st July for my "sex scan", can't wait. Desperate to know. Sod the diabetes, tell me whether it is a boy or a girl.
{grin]

Heartmum2Jamie · 11/06/2008 11:42

Lola & choco, I am jealous of your scan times, they are making me wait more than half a day for mine, my scan is at 2.30pm. Dh will go straight back to work and probably leave the boys & I in town as I need to get them new shoes and we might shop for the baby, lol!

Welcome xoxo!!

Twinkling, I am glad that the baby is ok and hope that the "thing" they found is nothign serious. HUGS.

For those worried about feeling movement, don't be. This is my 3rd baby and I have felt movement much later with this baby than I did my second, so imagine how worried I was, lol! Whether you feel movement will depend on lots of thigs, the position of the placent, the direction baby is facing (come on, if baby is facing your spine, you won't feel much) and how busy you are. I also find that my baby is fairly quiet in the daytime as I guess moving around puts them to sleep, but just as I went to bed last night...ping! Baby was awake! It has really only been the last week to 10 days that I have felt movement everyday even if it is just 2 or 3 times a day. Oh, and I am 20 weeks today!! Woohoo, half way! There were days I doubted I would make it here.

Will try and get my 20 week pic I took this morning up on my profile in a minute!

Pinkali37 · 11/06/2008 11:44

Morning All,

Twinkling, sorry that they have discovered this 'thing' and fingers crossed it all works out to be nothing and doens't effect baby. I'm sure they would act quickly if it was going to!

Good Luck to everyone having scans today.. how exciting. Mine is 2 weeks today and can not wait. I had pain last night in my bowel area so just hoping it was only wind etc.. but everything makes you worry, well it does me!

zonedout · 11/06/2008 12:19

edited to add; i wrote this yesterday evening and then lost internet connection so am posting it now having not yet read the rest of the posts so apologies if i have missed anything or x posted anything! it all seemed very relevant and current at 9pm last night anyway!

renaissancewoman, so sorry to hear about your poorly dh. hope all will be well with him soon. my dh had major spinal surgery when i was preg with my ds and i remember the excitement of my bump really easing the stress of the situation!

doctorswife, i have never been able to read that book without bawling whether pregnant or not pregnant! i just about manage to read it to my son when not pregnant but really struggle to contain my tears... but i am having to steer clear of it now, don't want to terrify the poor little thing with an uncontrollable attack of sobbing

pinkali, i adore both italian spinones and british blues. i have a standard schnauzer (used to have a mini as well but she very sadly died 18 months ago . its an awful thing to think about but when we find ourselves dogless again (our remaining schnauzer is quite old) we plan to get a dog and a (hopefully british blue) cat together. Bless Basil's heart, what a bad day he had!

Whoever had the peanut butter sarnie for lunch (sorry, complete preg brain moment has made me forget ), thank you... it provided the inspiration for my dinner which consisted of half a loaf of toast and peanut butter! dh working late and just could not be bothered to make a 'proper' meal(nor did i particularly fancy one!)

misdee, i am in awe! that is absolutely brilliant that you did race for life while pregnant! great news on your good scan too.

thomasina, hope all will be well with your cervix. i had treatment for abnormal cells in my cervix many years ago (and a biopsy that led to a massive haemorrhage but that is yet another story!) and thank goodness was ok in my last pregnancy. touch wood and fingers crossed for this one too!

those having a scan on june 25th... it's a good day, it's my birthday!!! i have my 20 week scan on monday and already getting a little nervous.

finally, anyone having braxton hicks already? i have been having them for some time now and not sure if it is worrying to be having them so early?

grr, my wireless connection is constantly going down (for sometimes days at a time) and has now disconnected and is not letting me get back online

Oblomov · 11/06/2008 12:29

Thomasina, I have had laser on my abnormal cells. I had to have it twice, and this was post ds. My last smear was clear. Hope yours works out o.k.

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 12:29

Oh I am very excited to see people's 20 week scan photos - I will try and put mine up tomorrow before I go away. Although if anyone can see girl/boy bits on mine they're not allowed to say!!

SoExcited · 11/06/2008 12:30

Interesting that people have felt movements, then not for a while. Despite being a first-timer, I felt movements at 14 weeks exactly, and a few times over the next week or so. Not sure i've really felt anything in the last week though - although i've been really busy climbing hills in the Lakes, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyone else unsure about what really constitutes overdoing it? I've read not to get your pulse over 140, but I haven't stuck to this. How do you want up steep hills otherwise?! was suprised by how much more out of breath it made me than normal though. What kind of exercise are other people doing?

cricri · 11/06/2008 12:32

Good luck to all those having scans today Can't wait for mine next week!
I've been struggling to keep up with the thread in recent days so apologies for not mentioning everybody.
Yorky Great news about your birth plan. I'm really pleased that it's working out the way you want.
TF Good news about your scan, but sorry to hear that there is something in there with the baby... Hope the test results come back OK. Could it be something left over from the ERPC?
Welcome xoxo and also Barbareeba
Thanks for the reassurance on movements Heartmum and Oblomov - like Daisy I was thinking earlier that I hadn't felt anything for a couple of days but the MW did tell me last week that this was normal at this stage. In fact she said that the baby wouldn't settle into a regular pattern of movement until around 32 weeks.
Hope everybody is having a good day.

cricri · 11/06/2008 12:38

Soexcited Just seen your post about exercise. I'm going to the gym 3x per week and I try to make sure my HR doesn't go over 140bpm by using a heartrate monitor. I have definitely noticed a difference in recent weeks because I've had to decrease the exercise intensity in order to keep my HR at or under 140. I read somewhere that your heart pumps a lot faster during pg anyway which probably explains it. I also get out of breath more easily than I used to so I'm putting it down to that! Even going upstairs makes me out of breath now. I try to listen to my body and the HR monitor has been very useful. I think you'll know if you're overdoing it - if you're pretty fit already then there shouldn't be a problem. I also have an AN yoga video which I try to do once a week.

Oblomov · 11/06/2008 13:01

Cricri, I cancelled my gym memebership today. I really like doing their Khai-Bo and Boxercise, but didn't think it was appropraite. And I hate the 'gym'.
So now I am not doing anything, haven't been for the last 2 months. And thats not good, is it ?

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 13:20

I do a fair bit of walking and gardening which helps, and DDs waterbabies class is definately good for toning the old flabby thighs and arms. Must get swimming again regularly but it's difficult with DH away so much.

I've just bought 10 bimble and 4 diddy diaper newborn nappies . A bit keen of me, but babykind have bimbles on offer at the minute, with about 12% off the RRP.

suiledonn · 11/06/2008 13:34

Hi everyone, just put my scan pic on my profile. It's my first time trying it so I hope I got it right. It is a full time job trying to keep up with all the chat on this thread.
chocorange Another holiday tip - remember pregnant women are more attractive to mosquitos and other insects so you might want to check out an insect repellent that is safe to use. I normally don't get bitten on holidays but we went to Cyprus when I was expecting dd and my legs and feet got badly bitten. Enjoy your holiday. So

twinkling Sounds like your baby is fine. Hope the thing turns out to be nothing serious.

In terms of movement I am feeling flutters most nights now at just over 18 weeks but this is my second time round. Also I have no tone in my stomach muscles at all - total jelly belly and I think that might make a difference. As regards posting a picture of bump I think my reference to jelly belly will be enough to scare you all without putting a photo on.

thomasina1 · 11/06/2008 13:50

Hi everyone, thanks for your encouraging comments. I am feeling less worried now as other people have been reassuring me too. Oblomov it was a cone biopsy that I had so that is why there is higher risk - they took out a chunk that was 2cm long! But anyway, I'm sure it will be fine, just a bit of a shock to suddenly be told I was high risk!

Anyway, just been out to New Look and bought lots of clothes for our holiday in Italy the week after next and that has cheered me up. Yey, I actually look pregnant enough to wear proper maternity clothes!

chocorange, good luck with the scan this afternoon!

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 13:53

Suiledonn thanks for the mosquito tip - I hate the damn things!!

Also, your profile is not public so no-one cam see it. Basically you need to amend your profile to public so you can see a clipboard icon next to your name on the right hand side of the page. In between the exclamation mark and the envelope. You can see the clipboard on my posts but not on yours. I would really like to see your scan photo!

suiledonn · 11/06/2008 13:58

Thanks chocorange. I think I have it set to public now.

lackaDAISYcal · 11/06/2008 14:38

Not sure if it works for mossies, but Avon skin-so-soft dry oil spray repels even the irritatingly annoying scottish midge...so much so that all the forestry commision workers use it and so, urban myth states, do the marines and it's sold in outdoors shops up north. My DH who is allergic to all insect bites/stings (he gets oozing sores from midge bites) swears by it. And it will be pregnancy friendly as no nasty chemicals (well other than the ones they use in the toiletries industry anyway, but no Deet or other nasties.

It's this one

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 15:21

Suiledonn the scan photo is very small so I couldn't see much - I think you can make them bigger in the photo section - if you want to!

Thomasina my scan is in the morning but thanks for the good luck, I will save it for tomorrow!

ChocOrange05 · 11/06/2008 15:24

Lacka I wish I had known about the Avon thing before - I am going on hol on friday morning but perhaps for my next trip !!

Zonedout - I had a mini schnauzer who I used to adore. She had to be put to sleep at 14, but what a friend she was! By the way, it was me that had the peanut butter frenzy yesterday!

Lacks - my mum swears by that Avon skin so soft. They sell it in Scotland don't they? Apparently Mel Gibson used it when he was filming Braveheart (useless info for you).

I have had some mroe strange pains today. on either side at the lower end of my bump. Am presuming they are stretching pains.

Still not feeling anything!! 17 weeks 6 days today!

vbab78 · 11/06/2008 16:53

twinkingfairy - sorry to hear about your scan finding a little issue and that your DH is stressing. I must admit if it was me I would probably be like your DH. Saying that if the midwife's are happy and ok with it then obviously not a problem.

chocorange - happy hols , i'm so jealous. I've been on holiday with both my pregnancies at about 4 months and it was fine and relaxing. Not as exoctic as yours just lanzarote and tenerife.

xoxo - Welcome. Talking of accidental 3rd timers so was one of my friend's. She found out at 5 months pregnant that she was pregnant at which time she was still breast feeding her young 2nd child.

cricri - I wish I had your motivation to go to the gym. I've had a gym membership for a long, long time and not been since probably the 1st couple of months. Such a waste of money and I paid up front for the year! I try to class chasing my son and cleaning up after DH as exercise even though I know I should do more.

Really jealous of all yours scans as this week seems to be going so slow and I haven't got it until Friday at 3.30pm. But once I have my 19/20 week picture I will but it up with a bump picture just to scare you all.

bubbaz · 11/06/2008 17:13

Good luck everyone who has scans this week. Can't wait to see the next round of pics. Glad all was well with yours suiledon.
XOXO welcome to you.
I felt proper movement today for the first time almost like a tumbling inside very strange but most def kicks (I hope ).
