Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Morning ladies, DD not well last night so all my plans for my day off have gone out of the window. I am so tired today as she was awake at least once an hour last night, still good practice!!

Had my M/W apointment (after sorting childcare - RAHH!!) and all my tests came back low risk so feel happier. Next scan on 24th June so looking forward to that and I also see a consultant.

I am booked into for the GTT test in July as DD was a big baby, don't really understand what this is about but will look it up later.

Sorry for those that are worrying and have no movement, don't worrry I am sure everything is fine, you are perhaps blessed ith stronger stomach muscles! I think I surprised my M/W as I told her the movement made me feel a bit sick because of the sensation - sorry if I have offended anyone but if feels peculiar.

Off to look for anything Lemon - Look what you have started!! If DD was not home would be hoping it to M&S. . . .

Has anyone looked at prams etc yet? I need a 3 wheeler and like the Britax Vigour but have not been to see one yet just wondered if anyone here has?

Coolkat X

dozy, no alpha mummy here; they were sainsbury's tast the difference sicilian lemon cupcakes and they have a goeey lemony bit in the middle and loads of lemon icing.......not that I could eat them, but hey ho.

Being coeliac, I never have wheat flour in the house. I should try making my own gluten free stuff, but never seem to have the time...too much MNetting

hope all the MW appointments go well and everyone gets the reassurance they need. MM, will you not get extra scans to make sure the babies are OK?

sorry to hear about your DD coolkat; I hope she feels better soon.

Right, off to get stuff ready for our big BBQ on Sunday; I will be in the divorce courts if I haven't put all the laundry away by the time DH comes home!

Heartmum2Jamie · 06/06/2008 11:49

Daisy, I can't even imagine being coeliac. It is hard enough with ds2 who tested positive for a wheat allergy (amongst other stuff, lol) nearly 2 1/2 years ago. He is due to see his paed at the end of the month and hopefully be scheduled for a food challenge. I keep hoping that he has outgrown his allergies, I can't imagine having to live wheat/gluten free for life, although I guess if there is one thing I have learned, you get used to it. Still, it is very easy to slip up. Dh brought a Mrs Crimbles cake home for ds yesterday and was excited as it was a little different to the usual dutch apple cake (he brought the dutch fruit loaf), only to find it had almonds in it and ds2 is allergic to almonds

Right, I actually have the car for a few hours today and now that I have waited in for an ebay drop off (very nice of the women to drop off item at my house as she was local! - talk about great customer sevice, lol), I better get a move on as dh will be back and wanting the car by 2.

Have a great day everyone!

heartmum, I do slip up occasionally, and pregnancy is a horrible time, as most of my cravings include lashings of hot buttered toast

vbab78 · 06/06/2008 12:12

Coolkat - Do you mind me asking how big DD was? My DS was 9lb 4oz.

Yorky · 06/06/2008 12:15

Lentil weavers and natural birthers - I have the Janet Balaskas New Active Birth book which I'm happy to post out for people to browse/flick through/photocopy

Coolkat GTT is because diabetic mums tend to have bigger babies, after both myself and my brother were born at 8lb12 and 9lb15 respectively they made my mum do a gtt but nothing ever showed. Hope DD feeling better soon

Lemon icing is easy - icing sugar and lemon juice, or part water and part lemon juice. I love lemon cake but keep buying lemons to grate into it as I love the smell on my hands, but I just never get round to making it, and my munchies are mostly savoury atm - think supanoodles and s+v crisps!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 06/06/2008 12:49

I can recommend that Delia recipe- it's very easy, I first made it in the baby belling as we had no kitchen when we bought this house!

re movement- I don't know about it making me feel sick, but I do remember DD used to do these very strange shudders from time to time which were a little discconcerting.

I am a reformed lentil weaver, or is that lapsed? But i'm going for a VBA2C this time, so I'm reading all the positive birth stories I can at the moment.

coolkat · 06/06/2008 12:50

Hi Vbab she was 9lb on the dot and a surprise as I am was quite a little thing!!! I suppose it is a precautionary thing.

One good thing come out of DD being home today my floors are sparkling! oh and I can't spend any money!!

tostaky · 06/06/2008 12:55

Hanaflower - Thanks for the recommendation!
Yorky - would you post it to London and "rent" it to me? And I'll post it back to you a few weeks later
?..
Maybe I should check the local library first?.?!!

Thomasina - have you been to the active birth classes yet? They seem expensive to me. I tried one last night and my belly looked so small in comparision with those 25- 38 weeks women! I was expecting a bit of a work-out but it was mostly relaxation? and moving our hips. I might try one in crouch end on Saturday morning and compare both.
Stoke newington is just too far/not practical for me.

vbab78 · 06/06/2008 13:39

Re buggies ... my DS has only had 1 buggy/stroller which he still has and has been worn to death. A M&P pulse stroller. I only wanted a small basic one because at the time I had a fiesta so still needed room for shopping etc.

I keep looking at buggies rather than strollers to try and get an easily accesible basket when fully reclined. But keep thinking my DS's cheaper (£90 at the time) and more compact stroller was more than adequate then and still proves to be now. If I could just put up with the basket access problem I would buy another cheap stroller and maybe a buggy board for DS.

Anyone who already has a couple of children have any recommendations on solutions for transporting baby and toddler? I want something probably under £200 all in, reasonable size folded, basket access and comfy for baby. Not too sure about double buggies as still want to be able to get in shops!

vbab78 · 06/06/2008 13:42

Would recommend www.kiddicare.com as another website to check prices against.

ceebee74 · 06/06/2008 13:43

Mmmmm - lemon cake - I would love a slice of that right now!

Bubbaz/Pinky - will e-mail you via Facebook about a meet-up rather than bore everyone on her - but it sounds like Blackpool suits everyone - plus it is handy all our children are similarish ages!

Vbab - not sure about Rotherham specifically but there are a lot of people on this thread from Yorkshire as they were discussing a Yorkshire meet-up. My parents live in Doncaster so I kinda have a foot in both camps

vbab78 · 06/06/2008 14:11

Just thought I would see if anyone was near me. I find it really hard meeting and talking to new people. I am really shy with new people but lord help you once you get to know me.

ceebee74 - Your parents are in Doncaster. WOW. I live just off junction 1 of M18. Where about in Lancashire are you? I have friends in Ashton-Under-Lyne on way to Manchester.

Really silly I know but it amazes me when people talk about places I sort of know. [hmmm] DUH.

MrsMattie · 06/06/2008 14:15

Afternoon all. I've been off line for ages as no internet while we're doing up our house. I was originally on this board, then swapped to 'Due Dec 08' for a bit, and now back after 12 week scan gave me due date of 28th Nov.

Soooo...am now 15 weeks pregnant, still feeling sick and knackered, have broken out in spots and feel like a sack of cold shit...but still VERY excited about this baby :-) I've got a boisterous 3 yr old son already and had been ttc for 8 months (had an early m/c during that time).

Anyhoo...just wanted to say hello (again!) and hope to get in more often for a chat xxx

thomasina1 · 06/06/2008 15:34

Tostaky, I haven't tried the classes yet. I thought I might wait until maybe about 20 weeks or so (I am only 16 now). I feel like I need to start being a bit more active now though - I used to go to the gym but that stopped a couple of months ago when I just felt too tired! So maybe some walking/swimming is in order.

As for buggies, we have gone out and bought ours! A bit crazy I know, but it is the only baby-related item we have bought. We've gone for a bugaboo bee which seemed practical as we're in London in a tiny flat. Also DH was convinced by it so that that was good enough for me!

MrsMattie, I've broken out in spots too... very annoying. any suggestions??

PInkyminkyohnooo · 06/06/2008 15:35

Hello Mrs Mattie! Sorry you are still feeling rubbish. Prolly won't make you feel any better but I'm still being sick at 18+ weeks. I've also done something heinous to my back today I don't know what but it really hurts.

Buggies- I have a Phil&Teds which has been fab with the 17 month age gap- you can get them second hand on ebay for around 200pounds, but a friend of mine has a m&p pramette with a board which has a seat bit on it, which may be more your thing, vbab? I'll se her this weekend so will find out what make the board is.

I've also got a Micralite fastfold with a carrycot which I love- it folds up really neatly, and stands up folded which is really handy and it's great on the bumpy pavements around here, and off-road.

MerryMarigold · 06/06/2008 16:31

Juat caught up with all the posts. The impression am left with is lemon cake and active birthing!

coolkat - you did FLOORS when dd was up all night. That's my excuse to rest all day

Somebody said their hospital (or did I misunderstand) gave them an aromatherapy bath when they were in labour with ds! Man, I would be h.a.p.p.y to go to a hospital like that. I was left alone in a darkened ward with no dh, and without even one check up from a midwife until I was 5 cms dilated and in quite a state. Any of you going in for your first, I would just recommend you fight for your dh's/ mums/ etc. to stay after visiting or go home with them. It wasn't like I was being checked or monitored (my waters broke earlier in the day), it was just a really lonely and distressing experience.

I do love lemon cake, but have made my myself famous amongst friends for a yummy chocolate cake. It's funny as I never baked a thing before about 2 years ago!!! I found the recipe on the internet, and added my own special icing recipe (made with cream, sugar and plain chocolate, it is the best). OOooh, mostly been craving savoury but I can eat anything.

Been carless this week. It's been a nightmare. Today dh got it towed by a friend to a dealer (we have been waiting for local garage to fix it, and yesterday they told us it has to go to the dealer - appreciate the honesty, but we waited 4 days for that!!!). It's a 2001 Mazda, so we don't want to spend hundreds of pounds fixing it, looks like we may have to though. Today I walked ds 30 minutes across fields to playschool and then sat in Esso garage for 2.5hrs till he finished. I spent the same on coffee and food as I would have on a cab, so will get a cab next week!

suiledonn · 06/06/2008 16:34

Hi everyone, I am back from my first appointment and I feel so much better having seen my little baby right there on the screen. It all feels a lot more real now. I'll post my scan pic when dh scans it for me.

I asked the consultant about my chances of a fast birth this time round and when he looked at my notes on last time he said they would consider bringing me in around 38 weeks to be induced. I said nothing at the time but I'm not interested in doing that at all. I'll just have to decide what I want over the next few months.

vbab78 · 06/06/2008 16:54

MerryMarigold - yes I got to hospital and because I think they weren't over busy (luckily) I was offered the aroma bath. Time flew in it, between pains of course, at least a couple of hours.

I got my own labour room but from what I remember the ward got packed after that. I was very fortunate and DH was with me the whole time for all the use he was. Not that I wanted much help from him I was just focusing on each pain and it going. In the end I was taken to theatre for a possible c-section (DS back to back and stuck with heart rate dropping) but assisted delivery was enough. After all this me, DH and DS were in a side room off theatre for a short while then we went to ward. DH then went home to sleep as I had DS at 3.30am after a long labour so he came back at visiting.

The hospital was Rotherham and I cannot fault the hospital or it's staff in anyway from the moment I was admitted to leaving a few days later. Although DS's timing and my pure luck did have a factor re the bath and own room.

Sorry for going on ... just like (in a weird way) remembering.

vbab78 · 06/06/2008 16:55

suiledonn - really happy for you. Now you can enjoy your little one.

Dozymare · 06/06/2008 17:42

Aromatherapy baths??!!! How cool is that??!!! Am very that sounds like an amazing experience!!!!

I have been searching high and low ALL day for lemon cupcakes with thick icing...no luck and have tried Waitrose, Sainsburys and tescos...think I may have to put the pinny on and make some...serious serious craving going on for all things sharpo and sour (whoever asked??!!)

Had a fab day, went with 2 friends and their DC to the outdoor paddling pool.....had a lovely picnic lunch and baby even slept in the buggy most of the afternoon!
Also had MW this morning, went very well and heard Heartbeat!

Off to my parents for the weekend tomorrow so hopefully get on MN at some stage.

Bye my lovelies!!!

DM xx

MerryMarigold · 06/06/2008 20:24

envy] of the bath but not the delivery vbab

suiledonn, glad the scan went well and you saw your little one, it's so amazing, can't imagine the novelty ever wearing off, but I am not having any more kids so I'm going to enjoy the scans this time round.

Dozymare - have a good time at your parents...get some r & r while grandparents and dad run around after kids!

S'long.

suiledonn · 06/06/2008 20:27

We had a long wait today and dh was getting very frustrated as he was missing work but seeing the baby just made us forget all that. Came home and had a takeaway to celebrate.

Yorky · 06/06/2008 21:25

You lot have gotta try this! I have just had my first reflexology appointment and its lovely, an hour with relaxing music, laying back and having my feet gently and knowledgeably massaged.
Glad you finally got to see baby suiledonn
love the idea of aromatherapy bath vbab
DM sound like you had a lovely day, enjoy your weekend
