Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
isaidno · 05/06/2008 15:51

Minkus - there is a helpline number for Tens from Tesco on the leaflet which is 01372 723 434 so they might know if you can do it online. I'm not sure if it only available at a Tesco with a pharmacy counter.

MINNIE1 · 05/06/2008 15:53

mummypig - So true, If you tell a doctor i have SPD its like o well it will be gone after baby is born.. Ya thanks!!

Minkus - Yip was way way longer!! lol I was induced with Both DDs but as soon as my water were broken i was off and 8 hours later DDs were born. Both labours were nearly the same really. Some say with your second you will go quick but i did'nt, now thats not to say you wont..

sweetkitty · 05/06/2008 16:22

So so much going on in here today

mummypig - I agree re the pain I definitely push through it today I have hoovered upstairs, hasn't been done for almost a fortnight and you know that way it starts really getting to you. I so need to do a proper clean though, pulling out beds and the like, myabe I will ask DP one weekend.

hubarb - I agree fundal height is so crude, I've always measured bigger than I am too. I know I keep harping on about this but the amount of times I have heard people being told they are going to have a 10lb plus baby.

Just had homebirth visit from the MWs, is quite scary as they go through the all that can go wrong stuff. But they seemed quite happy with everything.

CilC · 05/06/2008 16:27

hmmm how do we change our due dates?
CilC 14th July (DD3) Surrey BOY

Don't you just hate it when you write a big long entry and then go and lose it. Have just spent about 30mins writing it...oh well maybe next time...

sweetkitty · 05/06/2008 16:33

Wow conversation has moved on a bit.

Who was asking about BFing and having another LO? I found cbeebies a godsend and also lots of new books, when I sat down to feed DD1, DD1 and I would read some books. DD1 was very contect just to sit and watch TV with me though snuggled up at the other side, this time it's going to be a different matter, this little baby will have to get used to it's dinner being interrupted by toilet breaks/splitting up fights etc poor wee thing.

Also so agree with the put up with the pain you only have got X amount of weeks approach although the MW today was so nice she is coming out next week for another visit and to check me over save me hobbling to the health centre with the DDs.

gillythekid · 05/06/2008 16:34

Sweetkitty and Disneystar really interesting to read about your pelvic symptoms! I have sharp stabbing pains in the pubic bone and groin when I walk, pain in the coccyx when I sit (or rather on getting up!) and excruciating pain in my hips on waking many times in the night! Obs physio says it's fine to keep doing yoga, plus aqua fit and swimming as I have no problems with leg opening. I have no choice but to cycle as I can't walk anywhere and it doesn't give me any pain as it's not weight bearing. It certainly helps to do the exercises she prescribes fortnightly but I can't figure out if it's better or worse when I do my regular exercise. Have either of you been given any conflicting advice?

Heffagooday · 05/06/2008 17:04

Thanks Minnie - it'd be nice to try it!

Tens machines - when should you hire them from?

isaidno · 05/06/2008 17:18

You can't use a tens before 37 weeks. Most hire places only need a weeks notice. Stndard hire is usually 4 weeks with 2 extra weeks free if you go overdue. here is a place you can hire online, website prob has some more info.
Last time I hired mine from our maternity unit.

sweetkitty · 05/06/2008 17:32

gilly - I have been told to do nothing, any sort of exercise just makes it worse, even driving hurts. I take my hat off to you still cycling I'm sure I couldn't even do that before I got pregnant!

JODIEhavingababy · 05/06/2008 17:58

minkus I think we are stopping at The Big Sleep? hope it's OK there. Not sure about dinner, so any recommendations would be lovely! I live in Lichfield, Staffs, which isn't too far away. DH used to work in Chelteham (well woked from home and went to occasional meetings there)

The lady at the BF workshop siad she had a 'special feeding box' that had new toys and DVD's and stuff in it, which she rotated every once in a while (from 2nd hand shops) It ONLY came out when she was feeding!

EEC · 05/06/2008 19:21

Minkus - My Boots had 2 different strengths of arnica - I don't know which one is best so bought the 30c - probably won't work!

Mummypig - thanks for tip - will try freecycle

sweetkitty · 05/06/2008 19:25

I think having the MWs come round (one was a student who is just about to qualify, she was only starting when I had DD2) and talk about birth plans and gases etc has made me realise that I am actually going to be having a baby VERY soon.

I think I am now in shock!

I thought by the time you got to number 3 you would be relaxed about it, is it a case of forwarned = forarmed (is that even right?) I don't know now I stopped at a green light yesterday luckily no one behind me I am so dippy these days.

JODIEhavingababy · 05/06/2008 19:44

SK, I kn ow it's starting to look all a bit real now isn't it? I'm starting to get scared now! My prgnancy brain is going into over drive, ysterday I put sugar in my tea (I never have sugar!) and this morning I went into the kitchen to get a drink and came out with a bowl of Frosties that I didn't even want!

mummypig · 05/06/2008 20:01

Pregnancy brain - today I was in the middle of giving ds2 his medicine and couldn't remember how many tablets I had given him . Hopefully he's going to go up to the next size tablet soon and I will only have to remember to give him one. I need to get the collection sorted out with the pharmacist though. Currently it takes 4 separate trips to surgery/pharmacy to get a new prescription and then collect his medicine - and the prescriptions only last 2-3 weeks.

I saw my 2nd midwife today and couldn't think of much to ask her - but she said that the main midwife would be making an appointment with both me and dp soon. Then she will do a big talk about signs of labour, how to call her, what to do at the start and what dp could do if labour seemed to be going rather quickly. Apparently it's guaranteed to make the birth partner get into gear and realise the baby is pretty imminent. . I can't remember them going through all this last time though, maybe ds2 came too early!

By the way my due date is officially the 4th now but I'm not bothered about changing it on the list.

catec · 05/06/2008 20:19

Don't get me started on pregnancy brain - it is beginning to become a liability at work! I have to check my work several times to catch all the errors (emails addressed to the wrong people with loads of words out of context!)

CilC - thanks so much for the pram offer but I think we may have found someone to bring the buggy over from NZ - fingers crossed. Sorry to hear you are now in wheelchair - hope that eases the pain a bit.

I can't believe how many of you have had really fast labours - they sound like they can be as problematic as long ones. My best friend (currently pg with number 2) gave birth on the bathroom floor last year immediately after being sent home from the hospital because she hadn't been contracting for long enough - I thought that was a one-off but sounds more common than I thought.

Had a look at some nursing bras on the way home - Elle MacPherson - they are gorgeous! but have no idea what size I will be. Any hints on how much I can expect to grow? Used to be a 12B, currently 14C so was thinking maybe a 12D?

I've got my BF workshop at the hospital tomorrow. I keep on having nightmares about BFing so will be good to figure out (in theory at least) how it's meant to work!

isaidno · 06/06/2008 08:24

catec - best to get properly fitted for a nursing bra; from 35 / 36 weeks is the best time to get this done. Breastfeeding is fab, so give it a good try, but beware spending lots of money on nursing bras, breast pumps etc which might not be used if you decide to ff.

Had a terrible night's sleep here, DH tossed and turned all night - inbetween my tossing and turning! We have a deal where he can only drink 2 cans of lager per night when I get to 36 weeks, so that he is able to wake up / drive if necessary. He is more used to collapsing semi drunk into bed, so he will be grumpy and tired today. No sympathy from me - I've been going to bed sober for 8 months!

Mummywannabe · 06/06/2008 09:34

Hi all - you lot have been very busy!

Clic - ouch, huge sympathies to you.

EEC - my maternity trousers are a bit snug too. Brought stretchy yoga pants from peacocks for £5 yesterday, they are in nightwear section but got them in black.

Ante-natal class was great. Finshed early at 9.30pm so wasn't too shattered. Had tour of maternity unit. It was great, very clean, everyone was lovely. Its a really old hospital but i was very impressed. Slight downer as the only birthing pool is not plumbed in yet! Next weeks class will be shorter we were told. Also saw lots of tiny newborns and got quite tearful

gillythekid · 06/06/2008 10:13

Good morning. Hope everyone is more bright eyed and bushy tailed than me! Had a bad night, really painful hips, didn't exercise yesterday and am really confused as to all the conflicting advice with regards to pelvic athropathy. Some experts say keep active, others say do nothing!
Saw MW yesterday, measuring 34 cm at 34+4 so I laugh in the face of all those BIG comments! Baby is spine out now so my back is a lot better. My MW is a bit mad, lovely, but definitely slightly mad, hope she can calm down for my hypno home birth, might have to gag her as she gets a bit over excited.
Off for a gentle swim, will drive to the lido as the route is a bit busy for a cycle. Hope it doesn't rain.

JODIEhavingababy · 06/06/2008 10:48

Morning.

Just got back from MW. Everything OK, am now 34+3 and measuring 32.5 which means babies weight is approx 5lb 10 oz, but as we all know that's a load of c**p! Head still down, but not engaged, which I didnt expect it to be. So all's well in Jodie's camp!

Have a sick house today, DS was sick yesterday and hasn't really eaten much for 3 days, he's at MIL today, and DH was up last night with sickness and diarreah (Sp?) keeping well out of their ways!! On the bright side DS has slept peacefully for 2 nights now!!

How is everyone? Washing away like mad women now he weather is nice? I know I am!

JODIEhavingababy · 06/06/2008 10:48

Peanut thinking about you and Luke and Charlie. Hope you are all OK.

EEC · 06/06/2008 10:58

Morning all. Feeling much comfier today in huge pair of yoga type maternity trousers. They fall down when I walk, but so nice to wear. I hold them up when I go out with my sexy pelvic belt thingy. I do look a treat, but just don't care anymore.

mummypig - I don't know if we get that mwappointment about going into labour here. I hope so. So far DH hasn't come to a single appointment, hospital visit etc and I would really like someone who isn't me to talk to him about keeping me calm, massage , what to do etc because I know that when labour comes I will forget everything.

The hospital tour made everything feel really real for me too. It really focuses the mind - am actually pretty excited about labour now (wierd?) and have finally finished packing my labour bag. Any suggestions for good CDs to take? I guess calming would be best.

Mummywannabe · 06/06/2008 11:00

Jodie - my midwife measured me at 34 weeks and i was measuring 32 weeks, when i saw consultant at hospital (about something else) i was measuring bang on. Its so hit and miss isn't it. Glad you seem more sensible than me, i cried after seeing midwife! Perhaps its cause its my first, your so unsure of yourself.

Mummywannabe · 06/06/2008 11:03

EEC - i was thining about CD's. Think i might go for upbeat to be honest, something to cheer me up, motivate me. Will take a relaxing one too but music realy helps me feel happy.
