Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

i would help you with the cleaning, but when it comes to cleaning i'm all thumbs.

the only thing i can do thats close to being domestic is sniffing clothes to see if they need a wash...i have still yet to learn how to turn on the machine.

DebitheScot · 01/06/2008 20:19

I'm back from holiday too and once the cleaning fairy has finished at carrieon's house can she please come to mine as it badly needs done too.
Drove from Lake District to Farnborough today in 5 1/2 hours inc an hour for lunch, didn't expect to get home as early as we did but it was really nice having most of the aft to then slob about before thinking about next week which is going to be a busy one.
DH took a couple of photos yesterday in which you can see my bump so I'll try to get them on here and facebook tomorrow. They aren't very flattering though. They were taken while me and ds were paddling in a lake, ds ended up being completely naked and was loving 'swimming' in the lake.

mustsleep · 02/06/2008 09:26

hi everyone have just caught up

i wish we could afford a cleaner our house is a tip at the mo.. but then i have neglected it a bit due to the decorating

went to scarborough yesterday and we all got completely soaked but still had a good time

not going on hols this year so just going to pack in a couple of days out here and there and maybe a weekend away during the summer - thinking chester zoo next as neither me or dh have ever been and the kids would love it

hopefully · 02/06/2008 09:52

Argh!!! DP's dad and step mum (who are mad diddly mad, if you ask me), have just texted DP and said (I would like it noted at this point that they know my due date like it is tattooed on their forehead, they are obsessed), "party in leamington spa on 7 September. Expect to see you and baby." My objections to this invite include:
a) it is rude
b) my due date is 9 September, so the chances of it being out by then are slim
c) why on earth would I want to travel for about 3 hours to go to a party either 2 days before my due date or with a very very very new born baby?

They are mad mad mad.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 02/06/2008 09:59

ignore them, hopefully. that is what i would do anyway. engaging them in conversation about it may make them feel like there is something to discuss.

when they ask again say, no. it is very inconvenient and leave it at that. no explanations deserved or needed as they know better.

well that is what I would do anyway. But I am a stroppy school marm.

I teach teenage boys and have learnt that the best way to deal with ridiculous requests is to not to entertain a discussion of them.

eandz · 02/06/2008 10:14

hopefully,
I would personally pretend like it was a joke when asked about it...because it's quite ridiculous...like anyone who has just given birth is up to partying...i would also ask them if they'd want me to lift heavy furniture after the party was over...

but then again in person i'm very sarcastic and it gets me in trouble with everyone.

hopefully · 02/06/2008 10:33

So glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's ridiculous. They are a little obsessive, and I know how much they would love it if, for example, I went into labour while with them, so they could feel all responsible for the birth and probably sit in the hospital waiting room for the entire time I'm in labour.

Is tempting to just ignore it, but they are then relatively likely to show up on the doorstep (they did this once before when they felt DP was not involving them enough in his life - he was living with 5 guys at uni, partying like mad, so strangely didn't think they would want to join in). DP is just going to text back and say, "no thanks, too close to due date" and leave it at that. I determindly treat them like they are normal people, and thus far it has worked to keep the insanity at bay, so with a bit of luck it will continue to do so.

eandz · 02/06/2008 10:46

hopefully,
i hope you feel better. a strong and short response is a good idea. one day when i'm good and drunk i'll tell you a horror story about my controlling parents and inlaws.

lilapple · 02/06/2008 11:56

Hi All - Have been lurking for the last week. New to discussion boards, etc. and have finally plucked up the courage to join in!! Please can I be added to the list: "Due 6 Sept, North London, age 37, first baby, surprise"... Thanks xx

lollyheart · 02/06/2008 12:10

Welcome lilapple

hopefully · 02/06/2008 13:36

I've copied and pasted you onto the list lilapple, congrats and hello!

Ooh, DP has emailed his dad politely declining their invitation (he has elected not to add 'you are mad diddly mad' at the end, sadly). I am such an awful human being, I am actually looking forward to the insane response from them!

carrieon · 02/06/2008 14:25

Trust me hopefully, we'll all looking forward to the mad response from them too! Everyone loves eccentric family
I've just heard of someone else I know who's pregnant, and due a few weeks before us. That makes it at least 2 people per month I know who are due before Christmas (and I could say that back in April!!) Crikey its the year of the baby.

eandz · 02/06/2008 14:47

so a cousin in law (who is uber cool) just got back into town and asked what she can do for the baby...

and without thinking i texted her asking her to give birth for me.

i don't think she found it very funny. and i think the next family dinner might be a little on the awkward side.

charitygirl · 02/06/2008 15:08

Hah hopefully - that sounds like the kindd of things my quasi-in laws would say. In fact, they do it all the time - call DP on a Thursday with an 'invitation' to lunch on Sunday, which we find out involves visiting family and has been planned for weeks.

Which is fine if we can make it, but if we were busy, there would be huffing and complaining, which is totally unreasonable at that kind of notice!

Does your DP know its unreasonable? I think mine does, but won't admit it!

Also, my MIL is refusing to be told what sex the baby is because she wants to be surprised (may have moaned about this before). Was pathetic yesterday watching DP (and his sister) refer to our son as 'it' rather than 'he' (I didn't but she ignored me - talk about ridiculous!). Am I being unreasonable - i find it so self-centred md sort of attention seeking. Its not your pregnancy, woman!

potxola · 02/06/2008 15:12

I just thought you will fancy a little laugh on my behalf.
Something really weird is happening to me, Lorea, my baby girl to be, must have taken over my taste in colours as well as in food.
Why? a friend gave me some clothes from her daughter and of course they are all PINK, (YOU KNOW I HATED PINK) well, I quite like it now. Honestly, what next?

Eanz I just love what you said to your relative.

DebitheScot · 02/06/2008 15:14

I thought that was funny eandz, that's the sort of thing I'd say too.

DebitheScot · 02/06/2008 15:18

potoxola I hate pink too and funnily enough the thing I am most worried about if I have a girl is that I will end up liking pink! Esp that pale, pastly, yucky pink.

potxola · 02/06/2008 15:18

I forgot something: My whole family in law don't know I am expecting. They have not even met my ds.
It hurt at first, but it is a blessing now.
The relationship can be repaired.

Hopefully You know what is normal behaviour and they don't. I am not worried because I know you will do the right thing for you.

eandz · 02/06/2008 15:23

thanks potxola. at least you enjoyed it. i'm going to have to bow my head at family events from now on.

potxola · 02/06/2008 15:24

DebitheScot That is exactly the colour I honestly hated and I like now;The pale and pastly pink especially when it is combined with white. My friends are just going to really laugh if I buy too many pink things.

Another think I hated it is ribbons in baby girl clothes. I hope I don't change about that !!!!!!!!!

kiskideesameanoldmother · 02/06/2008 15:29

d'you know, i also hated pink. i still do for myself really.

however, dd's skintone seems to match any shade of pink. other people say so too so I don't think i am being an overexuberant mum. I have therefore grown to appreciate that pink can be a perfectly nice colour.

oh, i see that i am not the only one with a dsyfunctional extended family.

in this case, my own mum and sisters haven't seen my dd (3yo) yet. I have not bothered to phone or tell them that i am now 5 mo pg. in fact, i have only told one aunt who lives in the UK that at I am pg.

it is a loonng and barmy story.

eandz · 02/06/2008 15:31

debithescot, looks like your probably a good person to have around when i say these things. i'm always getting my foot stuck in my mouth.

eandz · 02/06/2008 15:40

i'm glad a lot of us have less than perfect extended family situations. i really used to think it was abnormal.

DebitheScot · 02/06/2008 15:49

I'm always putting my foot in it too, saying things before I think or assuming that if I find something amusing everyone else will too. I'm good at saying things like "oh I really don't like " and then having to backtrack when they say "oh, I have one of those"
