Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

and here's my survey results =)

Pre baby;
Wanted a natural birth and out of hospital asap.
Had no thoughts of not breastfeeding (must be the swedish in me)
Wanted to use reusable nappies but dh vetoed.

Post baby;
Waters broke and so did all hell. Started bleeding heavily and was rushed into hospital and had emergency c-section. Had to stay in hospital for 3 days.
Breastfeeding got off to rocky start as dd was too tired to actually eat. On day 3 it was quite well established though. Of course 3 weeks later I was back in hospital on drugs and antibiotics with pancreatitis. So I couldn't bf for two weeks, dd took a bottle and I expressed like a maniac to keep the supply up. Luckily we were able to reestablish breastfeeding and kept it up until she was a year old.
As for the reusable nappies, thank god dh said no!

Starlight,
this is the doctor i've finally chosen

i'm still not 100% positive since I haven't met him yet...but i hope he's nice.

so he can just help with my postnatal bleeding, but i'm sure theres something he does/prescribes some technique with regards to the perinial massage that will help with the tearing. i'll post them up as soon as i hear them since tearing is my biggest fear.

eandz · 19/05/2008 21:57

if anyone is interested with regards to the actual literature his secretary has sent email me at [email protected] and I'll fwd it to you. He sounds promising.

believe me, we're really not in the position either...thank god i've got health insurance from the states and that they cover it.

slinkiemalinki · 19/05/2008 23:07

If you want to read about perineal massage look at Gowri Motha Gentle Birth Method or Zita West.
Have been very happy with nature baby and while I admit they are not as good a reusables, I disagree that they don't make some little bit of difference... and they certainly don't smell on my daughter, but different brands of nappies do suit different children. The first ones I bought were Huggies as I got some free stuff with it - the free stuff (bag etc) was horrid and just didn't get along with the nappies at all! Also heard everyone raving about Tesco, didn't like those either, and Pampers I thought smelt funny and left a lot of gel crystals on her, but know plenty of people who use Pampers and are very happy so it's different strokes!
Would love to use reusables - but I'm rubbish enough at doing laundry as it is - maybe when we move and get more space to stand a nappy bucket (small house at moment), but by then he'll be 3 months and I have known a number of big reusables fans to switch to eco disposables by 7-8 months once weaning is well underway!

eandz · 20/05/2008 07:40

i don't understand one thing about the reusable nappies...do you just stick them in the wash with all that poo?

meglet · 20/05/2008 07:52

enadz you have to scrape the poo off, but you can use thin disposable linings for that. The only reason I still haven't used mine is because we have no space to dry them off, I don't want to run the tumble dryer just for a few nappies and we have very little space on the radiators to get them dry. I might be brave and have a go this summer if the weather is good so I can dry them on the washing line.

Have just e-mailed work to take today as sick as I have a rotten cold, I sound (and feel) like an 80 a day smoker .

eandz · 20/05/2008 08:26

Meglet,
sorry you feel icky. i hope you have a good relaxed day off.

...disposable linings eh? thats good to know. maybe i'll see if anyone is using them at one of the nct thingers.

OMG, I have yeti eyebrows. i think it's entirely possible I haven't looked in a mirror propoerly for about a month, and have just realised I have eyebrows of doom, and my make-up is a shade out, as i have got quite a strong suntan over the past couple of weekends. Combined with the big belly and rapidly growing double chin I think that makes me pretty much irresistable...

So if anyone sees a mad pregnant lady rushing around Cannon St station boots at lunch today trying to regain some vestige of attractiveness, that's me!

I am fully planning on trying reusables, but I have the advantage that in my area the council gives you them for free, so I get to try it without investing loads of money. Depending on how well i get on with the free ones, I may buy a different brand at a later date, but it's really good being able to try them. The joys of living in the country where councils have some money to spend on things other than crime fighting!

Gracie14 · 20/05/2008 09:23

Hi all,

I will go back and catch up with the thread as soon as I can but just wanted to ask a question as i'm worried.

Do any of you have extra 'wetness' or 'discharge' at the moment I keep thinking its my waters leaking Its not too much that it is constantly leaking but occassionally have patches on my knickers - sorry about tmi but we do share quite a lot on here and I didn't think that you would mind (I hope)
I'm not sure whether to speak to my midwife or not what do you all think?

charitygirl · 20/05/2008 09:33

Gracie - I'm also getting this - don't think its our waters, think its leukorheea (sp!) but also fear it might be thrush, which I've never had before, but which I hear is easier to get in pregnancy. Not itchy though so probably just the normal increased discharge of pregnancy. Is quite a lot tho.

Am seeing my midwife this week so will ask her, but hope this doesn't prompt embarrassing fanjo examination.

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 09:37

Gracie - There is definitely an increased discharge issue at this point for some ladies, it says so in my pregnancy bible. However, if you're worried that it might be your waters leaking you could sniff it (rather you than me!) as apparently waters leaking smells completely different to discharge. If you don't fancy that you could call your midwife, but I expect she may say the same. I shall just try and find out what the waters are supposed to smell like and get back to you.

biglips · 20/05/2008 09:37

gracie - yes same here as having the odd days when im very wet. im not worried about it as long its not yellow/smelly etc.

biglips · 20/05/2008 09:42

ive just bumped into one of my friend who just had her 4th baby and she had a home birth this time round and not hosp birth. she said it was fantastic and would do it all over again (but no mo kids).

eandz · 20/05/2008 09:43

Gracie and Charitygirl,

a week ago i went to nandos and after dinner got up to use to restroom...and i'd left a puddle.

i rushed home thinking my waters had broken but it was clear...and didn't smell, i called my consultant and he sent his nurse over to see what it was and it was just discharge/luke something and it's normal.

i've been wearing heavy duty feminine towels, and it's really bad when i'm shopping and during the hot weather.

eandz · 20/05/2008 09:45

In the chair while eating dinner...not in the rest room.... the bathroom was tooo gross to use.

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 09:57

Gracie I've taken a look at some old threads and it seems that amniotic fluid will smell sweet. The general advice is to put a pad on and then inspect it! Discharge will sit on the pad whereas amniotic fluid will soak in and be sweet smelling instead of musty. Also you could ring your MW for reassurance and she'll look at it.

Apparently hind waters can leak sometimes and they will leak at a drizzle rather than with a splash like the front waters. However hind waters can reseal and replenish so it's no big deal. If you are worried call your MW.

eandz · 20/05/2008 10:00

You know what I just realized?

this year, I get to have thanksgiving with me own family... and Christmas !!! we get to decorate a tree with my baby...and easter wont be a pleasure because of the sales on absurds amount of chocolate and eat it infront of the tv...this coming easter we get to decorate eggs and take him on a hunt!!!!

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 10:01

Hopefully - My eyebrows are awful as well, I refuse to look too closely anymore as I don't have the motivation to do anything about it!

I was expecting to get really hairy during pg as I already have to get my lip waxed () but actually it's completely the opposite, no face hair at all! Which is more than I can say for my stomach - I have the linea nigra or whatever but I also seem to have light fluff all over my stomach - lovely!

Pitufina · 20/05/2008 10:01

Sassafrass at your daughter falling asleep on her rocking horse!!!

mustsleep · 20/05/2008 10:10

lolli i have the tummy hair too and unfortunately had a tattoo on my stomach when i was 16 and that has now been stretched beyond all recognition by three pregancies now and looks fowl!!

have been guzzling down my gaviscon and i have to say if i remember to take it straight after food it does work

LittleConnie · 20/05/2008 10:19

There you all are...

lollipop I think your plan sounds brilliant, I might borrow it too if that's OK! Only difference is I'd like to try the birthing pool for pain relief, otherwise snap.

I'm very keen to try re-usables, not just to be greener but also to save some dosh. But I might give myself a month or so to find my feet before adding huge amounts of extra laundry to the list of things to do. hopefully am very of your free ones - where do you live I want to move there!

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 10:26

Mustsleep Is there anything you can do with the tattoo, maybe get something done over it or it smartened up (once you've put a stop to all this baby making of course!)?

I am thinking of getting a tattoo once i've finished breast feeding, it'll be on the underside of my wrist and it'll be a nice fancy/ornate letter E (initial of the baby). Very tacky I'm sure but I keep having dreams about that bloody tattoo so I think I should just get it and be done!

As I am completely obsessed with the nursery at the moment I have put a couple of pictures up on my profile if anyone wants to look at what I've been obsessing over/losing tears over!

EandZ - Christmas this year is going to be amazing isn't it! We normally go completely overboard (I get a second job and save all the money to put into presents and the whole day etc- last year I spent over £1,000, ooops!!). This year we have said we're not buying for ourselves, just for the baby, it's going to be spectacular!
