Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

starlight,
I think you are the winner! I didn't get to be in the race since i finished uni and am just avoiding the job market. we're almost in the final stretch! isn't it great?!

Notcitrus,
where will you be delivering?

expatmom2be · 26/05/2008 13:25

EandZ I may be just having an episode of pregnancy brain, but I'm pretty sure that the John Lewis on Oxford Street had a Bugaboo Frog on display when we were there a month or two back.

eandz · 26/05/2008 13:40

Expat,
I was there the other day...but I didn't even know about the frog till I looked on ebay. I'll go back to john lewis this afternoon and have a look.

Thanks!

potxola · 26/05/2008 14:06

WelcomeNotcitrus. Great to have you in our great group. It must be difficult to walk as you get bigger.I KNOW HOW BAD IT CAN GET BECAUSE MY BEST FRIEND IN SPAIN HAS VERTIGO. Still not long to go. Thinking of you.

notcitrus · 26/05/2008 14:16

Thanks for the welcome, starlightmckenzie! When do people recommend going on maternity leave? My plan is to work until 3 weeks before my due date (I'd previously known lots of women who worked practically until the date, so I figured I was skiving off early!), but people are now suggesting that's ambitious?

I'm about to arrange the IT for working at home 1 day a week, and there's a rest room with a comfy bed, and lots of comfy chairs and no standing or formal meetings, and I'm refusing any more travel, but I'm still knackered. A friend who worked herself into the ground before #1 says this time she's pre-booked a sickie a fortnight! Fortunately I'm on a short-term project I don't care much about, and not much is happening in August, so if my brain goes on maternity leave before my body so be it...

eandz Plan is to go to St Georges in Tooting - went on the tour recently - I posted on the 'Birth Centre - Tooting' thread about it.

eandz · 26/05/2008 15:08

actually, i asked because i'm booked in three places at the moment and the deposit is due and i can't make a decision.

and at each hospital i'm booked with a different consultant and i'm just soo freaked out because i can't make a decision one way or the other...

mamamufin · 26/05/2008 15:55

Welcome notcitrus we are a very happy bunch here! . Cant believe you are on mat leave star, it must be a wonderful feeling. I have six weeks left before I start mine on the 7th of july. I have however booked 2 weeks annual leave before them so in theory only four weeks to work . I have been working all weekend and am completely shattered by it.
Hope your nearer to making the big decission eandz.
I have been shopping this morning. I got two nursing tops from H&M. (1 black, 1 white). They are a lovely fit. I Also got euan a lovely special blanket.
Hope the wedding is going well for carrieon, I wonder if she managed to do her dress up . Take care x

Sassafrass · 26/05/2008 16:06

Welcome notcitrus.

Sounds like your workplace is pretty good. As long as travel isn't bad and work isn't getting you stressed I'd imagine you could work for a fair while. Last pregnancy I stopped working at about 32 weeks but I was doing supply teaching with lots of standing up, dealing with stressful situations and travelling. This time I'll stop at about the same time simply because the contract I'm on ends at that time. Pretty good timing I think =) Just keep your mind open and stop working if it feels like it's too much.

mamamufin · 26/05/2008 16:29

Oh I am back. Quick question. Somebody (sorry I cant remember who, baby brain) posted an ebay link for a toddler seat that fits onto the bugaboo board. I have become a regular ebay surfer trying to find one I can bid on, however, none has come up. Has anyone any ideas on how I can get one? Cheers guys. I dont want to order my bug till I know I can get one. Or I might have to rethink!

notcitrus · 26/05/2008 16:31

Thanks sassafrass. The joys of being a civil servant! Travel has been wearing me out - they've closed the bus stop by my office so it's a 10-minute walk at current speed to get there from the next one, but on the way back there's direct buses from outside to Victoria or home. And the trains are airconditioned - if I had to use the Tube it would be very different!

I'm on a temporary promotion while on this project, which means I get a lot more cash up to the point that my working plus any leftover annual leave runs out. Given that we're currently throwing all our savings at a loft conversion (thick layer of soundproofing between Squirmy and Mr NotCitrus sounded good!), the more money the better, but only if my body's willing. I've been assured that as the project is finishing in Sept, there's lots of people who will be coming available to take over from me if needs be.

The vertigo isn't too bad if I can avoid any flashing lights. Like those wretched video screens they're putting all over London Transport, and animated crap on web pages...

eandz · 26/05/2008 16:44

mamamufin,
i can't for the life of me get close to making a decision. i don't k now whats wrong with me.

Starlight,
good idea! we ended up making a diagram and have now decided. Chelsea and Westminster and St Thomas if something doesn't work out.

phew! i thought i'd never reach a decision.

potxola · 26/05/2008 19:23

Startlight I completely forgot about that seat, I saw it a year ago in a catalogue. Too late for my Ds to use one of those, he is 20 kg already and I think he will be needing a buggyboard instead.

mamamufin · 26/05/2008 19:32

Hmmmmm What a fab invention! Thanks for that link Star.
My ds weighs 15 kg at the moment (I know this as we got new car seats last week). So he could be too big for this by september
I think like pot I will be needing a buggy board. Now I have seen the seat that goes on the bugaboo board, it looks odd without it, if that makes sense!
I am so glad you have made your decission eandz you can relax now. .
Oh corrie, chat soon x

mustsleep · 26/05/2008 19:53

hi does anyone know how much 20kgs are in stones and pounds dd is two and a half stone, but have a feeling she would be too big for that seat although it looks ace!

just got a high chair off ebay yesterday for £21 it's just like the stokke trip trapp!! i know it's far too early but couldn't pass up such a bargain

eandz i don;t think that they actually sell the frog anywhere anymore although you can get them on ebay second hand- the cameleon and gecko are great but not so fab for public transport as you need to take the seat off to fold them but i would def get one if we had the money/space but that's me

yeah, i was planning on buying the frog on ebay and if i decided on chameleon/bee i'd just have my little sister bring it over from the states.

the frog-- you have to take the seat off to fold it up? hmm...perhaps this buggy thing needs more thought. it's soo complicated! i wish babies just came with kits they supplied at the hospital at birth. it would make sense with the amount of taxes we all pay...

Sassafrass · 26/05/2008 21:28

Mustsleep, 20kg is roughly 3.2 stone.

hopefully · 27/05/2008 09:23

Morning everyone! Back in work after a v rainy but still fun bank holiday at my mother's, with loads of family there.

Feeling really tired at the moment - think I'm beginning to get to that stage where I can't take for granted being able to be on the go all day. Had to go for a lie down on Sunday afternoon, and went to bed at 9pm last night and slept solidly through till alarm at 6:10am! Suppose I'm not a million miles from 3rd trimester (25 weeks yeseterday!), so perhaps I'm allowed to begin feeling tired.

I also finally began sleeping on my side last night, after everyone being horrified I'm still merrily sleeping on my back. Had to prop myself with big v pillow, and think I still rolled over in the night, but at least I'm beginning to try....

Pidge · 27/05/2008 09:26

Starlight - that's reassuring about the gender possibly being obvious even if it's a girl. And two other people have told me the same. So now we're back to really not knowing, which is where I wanted to be. Though I can't tell you how curious I am!!

Notcitrus - welcome, welcome. And congratulations on the pregnancy. On the work front - I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and plan to work until 2 weeks before the due date just like with the other two. But a lot depends on the nature of your job, your commute plus on how your body holds up in late pregnancy. Personally I don't do the early months well (sick, sick, sick!!!), but I tend to be more and more bionic as the pregnancy goes on. So fingers crossed it will be the same. I wanted as much of the maternity leave as possible after the baby arrives, but that doesn't work for everyone. And the last couple of months are definitely hard going.

By the way - I'm glad there are some more of you who have not got any baby kit prepared yet. I'm planning on saving my nesting till August!

charitygirl · 27/05/2008 09:49

Just catching up..welcome notcitrus! Eandz - did you end up going back to John Lewis yesterday afternoon? If so - I was looking at prams there too, how funny! I ws the blonde struggling to open and close the McLaren (actually very easy but I am a bit spatially challenged and the boyfriend ws getting hungry/huffy)!

potxola · 27/05/2008 10:09

Hi,
I feel a bit weird. I have never bought anything on ebay and you seem to be experts at it. Is it difficult? What should I be careful about? I would love to have a go a get some bargains.

Mustsleep Sorry I only work in kg, but if it helps in the red baby book says that 10 kg is 22 lbs.
I hope it helps

eandz · 27/05/2008 10:21

charitygirl,
i did!! but i ended up not ever making it to the pram area...i played with makeup for 2 hours and then spent the rest of my time trying on dresses in hopes of finding one that would make me look a little more feminine.

do you/does anyone live close to oxford circus? maybe we could all meet up for a giant mumsnet coffee?
