Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

OP posts:

Gosh you guys are organised with your baby kit. I literally have got nothing prepared. I know we have a box of baby clothes in the attic, which I guess I'll get down and sort around August. I fear our old Moses basket which we borrowed has been loaned on, so we need to work on that! And our plastic baby bath is currently holding a load of composting garden waste at a friend's house!

I reckon we'll get there though. We're pretty minimalist in terms of buying stuff. Even first time round we didn't get the pushchair till about 2 weeks before the due date. Newborns don't really need much other than a babygro to keep them snug and I'll breastfeed, so that's simple. Must remember to buy breastpads though as I leaked like a fountain to start with and unfortunately found the resuable ones just didn't absorb enough.

Hi guys
You sound like your sorted pot . I am sure the nesting will hit you soon pidge
So many decissions to make.
Well I have put myself on a high calorie diet. I am 5ft 4 ish and weigh 10.5 stone so I am well built. However, I normally fluctuate between 10 & 11 stone anyway. The problem is I do not look pregnant at all. People gasp when I tell them I am 6 months pregnant, and an old dear told me yesterday that I must have my dates wrong. It is really starting to worry me as I defo had a round tummy by this stage with ds. I so want a pregnant belly as I enjoyed the whole business of people being nice to you and asking you questions. I also feel as though I am being given tasks at work that a heavivily pregant looking lady should not do (if that makes sense). Also, this is the last time in my life that I intend to be pregnant so want to bloom completley.
Yesterday I ate chip shop chips for lunch and pizza for tea. I have just had a mcdonald big mac now. So hopefully the results will show very soon .
Got to go final stretch at work this afternoon. Then dh and ds will be back from mil house, I cant wait to see them. Have a nice afternoon x

kiskideesameanoldmother · 25/05/2008 12:17

I am off the Barcelona tomorrow till Friday so no nesting for me yet! I can't wait to eat all the fresh fruit and veg as we are staying very close the main market. I will also pay a mandatory visit to an excellent Yucatecan (a Mexican region) restaurant in the Eixample which we discovered by chance on our first visit. My family is part Yucatec and it is like having home cooking!

I deserve this visit. I had a horrible day at work on Friday, culminating in me coming home at quarter past one with back pain, well, all over body pain and a cold. I have never broken down in tears before at the thought that I had another 2 hrs to go. I am feeling better now but all I plan to do in Spain is enjoy the warm sunshine, read, eat and sleep.

mamamufin · 25/05/2008 12:26

Wow Kiski Have a lovely time it sounds great. You are making me feel guilty about my lack of fruit or veg though .
Erm, just thought. How do I make my big mac weight go to my bump and not to my thighs or somewhere? . Doh!

eandz · 25/05/2008 13:44

kiskideesameanoldmother,
have fun!!!

lollipopmother · 25/05/2008 18:20

Blimey it's quiet here today!

DP and I went to Toys R Us today, got a couple of bits, cost 80 quid, I nearly died! I shall be trying to find things cheaper on the internet from now on, ebay shall be my friend!!

Hope everyone's having a good bank holiday.

Pidge · 25/05/2008 18:23

mamamufin - I have totally the opposite problem - I'm also 5'4 but on the small side, so my bump comparatively looks ENORMOUS. And when I tell people I'm only 5 months, they gulp and gasp and are not sure what to say! So you can't win.

No low calorie diet for me either though ... am off to make a gooey chocolate pudding for the relatives we're spending the bank holiday with!

KashaSarrasin · 25/05/2008 18:33

Have fun and lots of relaxation in Barcelona kiskidee! Potxola I guess I'm in the same boat as you with increased risk of an early baby due to placental clot, except you seem much more organised than me! It's very scary but I'm trying to stay positive about it all, every day that passes without incident is a day closer to the due date!

The cot is still in the garage and we need to get a new mattress - we plan on sidecarring it to our bed so that we can cosleep and still have room for everyone as DS still likes to come in with us in the early morning. And we've only just started discussing names! (well, actually I've almost decided, I just have to persuade DH! ). We're being quite minimalist so my shopping list is still quite short, I'm sure there's lots of stuff I haven't even thought of though.

mamamufin · 25/05/2008 18:47

Good idea about the sidecarring Kash. We did this last time and it was fab. We used cable ties to secure it . However, we have a leather sleigh bed now so it just wont be possible .
Pidge you have made me feel better, you just cant win I suppose. I have had chicken, new potatoes and veg for tea (oooh with lots of cheese sauce !).
Happy bank hols girlies xx

jearund · 25/05/2008 18:57

kiskiddee Yes please to the link. I'm also planning on having a c-section so would love to know the full info in order to ask. Thank you!

meglet · 25/05/2008 19:48

We have got organised and planned that DS is moving out of the nursery in the middle of July to his 'big boys' bedroom. That way the nursery will be fully stocked with nappies, sleepy suits etc in plenty of time for the new arrival. Although the cot won't be here until middle of August, but as we have a moses basket I'm not too worried.

I had too much veggie sunday roast earlier and now I feel like I am going to pop. Finished it off with a glass of lemonade which was probably not a good idea.

Anyone else having problems sleeping? I am desperate to be able to sleep on my back or tummy again. Roll on October! My hips get so achy when I sleep on my side .

meglet · 25/05/2008 19:51

kiskidees those articles will be handy. DS wouldn't latch on after my em cs and I have always wondered if the epidural / splinal block (not sure which I had ) made everything go wrong.

becaroo · 25/05/2008 20:09

Meglet...I am havng sleep problems too. My hips are very sore/stiff from having to sleep on my side and I always seem to end up on my back during the night despite two pillows!

Jearund..how is your friend doing?

I ordered my pram yesterday
I have gone for the Silvercross 3D pram/pushchair combo in Jet black/silver. Cost £345 and that was with the car seat half price!!! £150 less than the Mamas and papas one I was looking at though.

Still got a sore throat - feels like something is constantly stuck in my windpipe its getting on my nerves.

HAve a good bank hol x

potxola · 25/05/2008 20:18

KashaSarrasin Hi, yes same here, everyday is a blessing. I still check everytime I go to the loo and when I get too tired without having done much, like today, I think "this is not normal, I am only 6 months and I feel as if I was 9 months" I compare myself with other pregnan women who keep very active and are full of energy and I worry. I have a midwife app. next week and I will ask her about this.

jearund · 25/05/2008 20:59

Thanks for the links Kiskiddee. My friend texted today to say she was being released from hospital this afternoon and that things were fine but she didn't give me any more detail so I don't know if that means the BF situation has improved or not. We're now up in Scotland so I won't see her for another week and I don't want to ring and disturb them in case she is sleeping (I remember how knackering it is at the beginning). I told her to phone me when she wants to so I'll post when I hear from her.

Passing computer to DH now - both of us are getting withdrawl syptoms with being away from home and only getting rare on-line access! Night everyone!

carrieon · 25/05/2008 22:20

Well its wedding day tomorrow! Went to the rehearsal this afternoon, bride's sister is doing everything to prove that she's the chief bridesmaid, not me, which includes putting the 4 of us in ridiculous height order just so that I'm not at the front walking with her (so now we're walking in two pairs, in each of which one is v.short and one is v.tall - she and I are the taller ones so it would make sense for us to walk together, either at the front or the back. But she must be at the front. And I must not!). Its all so ridiculous coz I really don't care...I feel privileged to be asked to be a bridesmaid at all and I don't think I've given her any reason to be threatened by my presence. Not feeling so privileged to have to wear a diamante alice band though . I'll post photos as soon as I can after the event!!
I also have the problem of having got enormous in the last few days. I'm massive, seriously, there is no way on earth that dress is going to do up tomorrow. Maybe the alice band will be the last thing on my mind?!!

You guys are worrying me, I think I must be anti-nesting. I got all our newborn and 0-3m stuff back off my friend, sorted it into bags and now its going back in the loft, not to see the light of day til we get back from holiday in August at the earliest! Maybe if we had some furniture to put it in I'd be more inclined to keep it down here, but wardrobe shopping isn't gonna happen for another few months yet. 18 weeks to go doesn't sound that long, but looking at the calendar we've got all of June, July, August and the vast majority of September still to go. Actually the big challenge is finding some time that dh and I can sit down and discuss furniture requirements and get some shopping done.

Well, better get my beauty sleep, tomorrow is a very big day for very big me!!

Sassafrass · 25/05/2008 22:51

26+0 weeks today, so one more week and then I'm officially in the third trimester! Yay!

I woke up at midnight last night with really bad stomach cramps and felt nauseous. Got up and was worried I was going into premature labour. Turned out to just be a dodgy stomach though. Think it might have been the rhubarb pie...

Dd1 spent the afternoon with her grandparents and I tidied up her room for her. Was great when she came home and started exclaiming wow and ooh how pretty. Nothing like an appreciative 3 year old =)

notcitrus · 25/05/2008 23:14

Hi, my first baby is due mid-Sept (so I'm 24 weeks). I only found out I was pregnant at 14 1/2 weeks, having decided after 5 years that it was unlikely to ever happen, so I'm sort of still in shock!

My only real symptom of pregnancy has been tiredness, but I've had that in spades. Anyone who tries telling me that I'm blooming or that the 2nd trimester is a time of energy is going to get an earful... apparently it's normal to have to lie down after walking 100 yards? potxola, I sympathise! I have vertigo which has gotten worse with pregnancy, so I'm using a walking stick, which helps with my hip pain but also gets me seats on buses.

Squirmy is officially low-risk and doing well (official opinion at his '20-week' 23 1/2-week scan), so I guess my body is just taking prioritising him very seriously.

After muttering for 20 years, my MIL is getting a third grandchild in 9 months (#2 was due on Friday), so we're getting loads of hand-me-downs from #1 and just got two bin-liners of clothes from lovely neighbours. Mr NotCitrus has been having lots of fun on Ebay getting other stuff. We're hoping to avoid needing a lying-down buggy and using just a frontpack-carrier and a car seat until Squirmy is old enough to sit in a lightweight buggy that's easy to manoevre on London buses.

lollyheart · 25/05/2008 23:18

Hi hope everyone is well.

I got back from our holiday on friday we had a great time went to butlins the dcs loved it.

ive got huge in the last couple of weeks i might have a baby over 6lb dd was 6lb70z and ds was 6lb4oz.

im having trouble sleeping im so uncomfortable now can only sleep on my side.

only 2 weeks till my 4d scan cant wait i hope i get to see his willy this time he wouldnt show me at 20wk scan i need to see it to belive its a boy

luboo · 26/05/2008 07:21

Can anyone with 2 children already give me an idea on the likely difference in weight of 1st and second babies? DD1 was 6lb5oz and I had no newborn stuff so all 0-3 month grows were too big. Don't want to make the same mistake again so have bought some newborn things but am now worried the baby ( a boy this time) will be too big for them! Is he likely to be vastly bigger?

Lilypink · 26/05/2008 08:14

Hi luboo my DD was 8lb 3oz and she still wore some newborn babygros etc for a few weeks - I don't like seeing new babies swamped in clothes so I def think it is worth buying a pack or 2 of newborn stuff.

You all seem to be very organised, I have done nothing apart from get a new pram! Haven't even started getting the big room ready for my DD to move into before baby comes along and needs the nursery.

I am 23 weeks and this baby seems sooo active I am kicked about all the time, I don't remember this with my DD. I didn't find out at scan if it was a boy or not but I am wondering if it is?

I am feeling very lucky as I feel so well, no aches or pains and have quite a bit of energy - was dancing all night at a wedding on saturday night - belly button was sore by the end of the night though! I remember with dd pg I got the most AWFUL pain in my belly button - there is an offical term for it you know!

luboo · 26/05/2008 08:26

Thanks Lilypink. You might well be having a boy. My baby is MUCH more active than my daughter ever was. He never seems to stop moving. I fear I might be in for a shock when he's born!!

eandz · 26/05/2008 10:43

Hello Everyone!

we went to try out prams on friday night and decided on the bugaboo bee, but when we got home we realized that a bugaboo frog (it was discontinued and upgraded to the chameleon) is more what we're looking for (in theory)...if we could just find one to look at/try before bidding! anyone ever used one before?

we spent saturday at our cousin inlaws and it was magical, the family is wonderful, the little girls are soo different from each other-- soo sweet and cute!... everything was awesome apart from us leaving and my dh bringing up our possible need to buy a car. ...i'm not too sure if we need one seeing as we live right infront of a tube station, 3 bus stops and live in central london...and to top it all off, he doesn't drive and i don't think he ever will. but if we get one, i've always wanted a beetle.

thats it for now, i'll message later during this awful grey day...
