Thank you both LWFH and Sazzles for adding some glamour to our thread. Sazz the hair looks FAB dahling, and lwfh those shoes are divine!!

hmm, too quiet without certain members around. Weather must have been nice everywhere today coz its very quiet on here.

Right, dh and I just settling down to watch dr who which was sky plussed earlier.....

Might catch you tomorrow - after ds birthday party!! Also, got someone coming to view the house on MOnday >

miamla · 03/05/2008 21:44

this is the same post as the one i put on the thread i started but the same sentiments apply to all you lovely ladies too
*
thanks all for your kind messages and sorry for delay in my reply
i gave my doctor a call about something else and as an afterthought asked if the nurse or GP were available for a quick chat. An hour later I had an emergency referral to my local hospital. Went straight up there and ended up getting admitted last night. Finally home now and good news is that baby hasn't made an appearance. But judging by SlightlyMadSweet's message it sounds like it might be sooner than we're expecting!
They've given me the steroid injection as a precaution (to boost the growth of his lungs from what i understand) and told me to take it easy. Baby quite typically was very quiet until the bus ride on the way to the hospital! And he didn't like the constant heart monitoring...it really seemed to rile him and he kept kicking it, messing up their trace! I had an internal exam and he couldn't work out where the bleed had come from. He reckoned it might have had something to do with the aspirin I'm taking (for restricted blood flow in umbilical cord) affecting an old bleed we had at 8weeks.
Doctor did say there's obviously still a high chance of an early delivery but at the same time he's had ladies in my position who go on to need to be induced!
I guess its a case of watching this space!

Looking on the bright side (other than of course that baby is absolutely fine and i'm home now) i've had my first experience of being on a labour ward. Because of that I have now added ear plugs and a torch to my hospital list. Erm yes, this will be the list i started writing whilst being in the hospital last night! Why a torch do i hear you ask? because the NHS couldn't quite cope with providing me with a working light so i couldn't sleep because of all the screams round me but i couldn't read or knit either because it was too dark!

i'm very pleased to be home and there are quite a few relieved parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and greatparents to hear that D-day hasn't arrived just yet!

ooh and we're taking bets that baby will arrive on a bank holiday weekend. Purely due to the fact that everytime i've had problems with him up until now, he's chosen bank holidays. we're really really hoping he doesn't choose the next one in May because that's when its looking like we'll be moving house!
As i said..place your bets whether or not baby continues to cause trouble by arriving on moving day! But you know what, if he does, we'll deal with it admirably i'm sure!
so, after my epic, thanks again all for your advice
much appreciated...again!

miamla · 03/05/2008 21:51

careful Sazzles, you'll scare the boy with winks like that! has VG been giving you saucy lessons?

re DC's bed, have you tried phoning other homebase stores? alot of them will do an internal transfer if you go in smiley, especially if you do it whilst rubbing your bump

assume you've tried argos for alternative?

I don't blame you for sulking! Just an idea but if you know exactly the kind of bed you want have you thought about contacting a local carpenter? A friend of mine had loads of cupboards built to her own design and was amazed at how cheaply it worked out

Ps your hair looks lovely!

miamla · 04/05/2008 09:32

Oh and forgot to add something to my hospital experience post,if you're anything like me and regularly let your mobile battery get low..try and get in the habit of keeping it charged! Its sod's law that like me you'll end up in hospital with a dead mobile and dead blackberry with everyone panicing because they can't get through!
I was quite surpised about how relaxed they were re mobile usage on my ward. Not sure it'll be the same everywhere though but albs you should be ok!
And actually albs all the staff I met at whipps were lovely apart from one. I think she was the night time ward sister..really miserable, unhelpful woman! But one rotten egg isn't too bad!

One of the good things about being at the hospital was that I've almost finished Pip's little jumper Do we have any other knitters on here? I've found some lovely free baby knitting patterns.so if you're interested, let me know and I'll post some links.

Right, I'm off now to finish doing my hospital list. It'll make it easier for DP if baby does decide to make an early appearance!

Hope everyone has a lovely sunday.. I'm whispering the next bit in case they hear me but I don't think the weather gods realise its a bank holiday weekend!

alittlebitshy · 04/05/2008 09:58

miamla so glad to see you back here and that baby is still safely inside
Thanks for the tips re hospital - I must get round to booing one of their Sunday tours so we have an idea of what we're letitng ourselves in for and where we're going on d-day i guess.
What was the horrid night time sister doing that was unhelpful? Gwad - why do they work with people if they can't deal with actual people. grr grr grr.

Sazzles - argh at your bed problems . How annoying!

longwayfromhome lol - i guess he knew you weren't going to be buy anything else from him them - so he decided not to waste his (clearly limited) conversational skills!!

Been a fish wife this morning. Yelled at dd for something trivial. She cried, and i felt awful We're friends again now though.

After church we're going out to lunch - chinese i think. Yum - we're all looking forward to it. Dd is most excited about the seaweed.

Yesterday dd had a party in the morning, then in the afternoon she and I went to see some friends. Goodness their lives are all so complicated. One group of friends i made round here were, when we met, all apart from me, single mums with very tricky ex-dp stories. One is since married and she and her new dh and her son have moved away, but the others still have such interesting lives. Involving random men, talking about how the latest man might not measure up wrt sex, so if not he'll have to be dumped, not enough babysitters so they can't even get out once a week to get hammered (I've had that kind of night out (unintentionally ending in me being v v drunk) twice in 5 years - and prob only a handful of times more in my life apart from that so I don't have much sympathy ). What else? Oh yes - one has fianlly given up pot cos she's newly epileptic. Good lord - i led a sheltered life beofre I moved here . I come home with stories to regale dh with

Happy Sunday ladies.

And hoping dizzy is ok - if busy with everything.

cyteen · 04/05/2008 10:35

miamla so glad things seem to be okay with you - am keeping my fingers crossed that your wee one decides to stay put for a while longer. I lol'd at your addition of earplugs and torch to the essential hospital kit list Am v jealous of your knitting skillz, I started teaching myself a while ago but haven't got much further than casting on, knitting and purling, so I can knit many rows but haven't a clue how to get them off the needles! Now that my bugbear of an assignment is done, though, I'm hoping to pick it up again and make some simple stuff for the baby. Am thinking of knitting lots of squares to make a blanket, on the grounds that they'll be good practice; I can keep them basic at first and then maybe experiment with different stitches, colours and patterns etc. if I get more confident.

I know it sounds stupid, but I've always wanted to be the kind of mum who can do stuff like knitting and sewing Fortunately I've got the baking down pat - I rock the oven, it's just everywhere else I'm cack-handed.

albs enjoy your Chinese

CC have fun with your boy on his birthday!

Well, we had a brilliant time in London yesterday - saw loads of people we haven't seen for ages, listened to some ace music, DP got to chat to another recent dad who told him lots of scary birth stories Got the last train home and had a lovely lie in this morning, followed by some other lovely stuff and now I am enjoying a day of dossing about. Am currently watching best of the 80s on VH1, they haven't played a duff one yet - Kate Bush, Prince, the Proclaimers, Chaka Khan...it's a party on the sofa and you're all invited

Jennylee · 04/05/2008 13:07

Hi everyone, Miamla glad you are okay and baby is safe.
Isaw this also if anyone else is into co-sleeping stuff

Buckets · 04/05/2008 17:53

Hi all
Miamla, good to see you and bubs all intact still. Those steroid injections hurt like buggery doesn't it (not that I'd know about the latter, mind)? I had to have one with DS at 35wks - he was born at 38wks with a sixpack, superhero strength and weighed 9lbs!
Shall we all get our hospital bags packed sooner rather than later to show solidarity with Miamla? I promise to buy giant sanpads at my next Sainsbo shop - it's the least I can do.

Yeah I'm starting to think a normal carrycot or bassinet would be just as good and half as expensive.

longwayfromhome · 05/05/2008 00:04

Do you want a quick cake recipe? It's very easy.

1 pot of yoghurt.
Put it into a mixing bowl.

Use the same yoghurt pot
add a pot of cooking oil.
2 pots of sugar
3 pots of flour
2 or 3 eggs
Mix together with a blender/by hand

put in the oven in a cake tin/2 tins/a vaguely ovenproof pot on a medium heat for longer than you might think until it is cooked but not for too long

Greetings all, glad to hear that everything is OK for now miamla, and continuing good thoughts for everyone on the thread.

TwilightSurfer · 05/05/2008 02:40

First, Miamla I am so glad you and your baby are doing well. You sound great in your postings. It's nice you've kept your spirits up. I was amazed to hear about your hospital experience. Things are very different in the US. I don't know of any hospital that has a "ward" other than in the emergency room area but even then there's often moveable walls. Everything is basically like you see it on ER or Grey's Anatomy. I will say the ear plugs would be worthwhile here but you wouldn't need a torch. You'd need sleep blinders. The lights seem to be on all the time. You might turn the out to go to sleep but there's always someone coming in to check on you every hour....and they turn on LIGHTS to see what they are doing. I had a premature labor stay about two weeks before I actually gave birth to DD. By MIDNIGHT I was so exhausted from all the checking I requested to be released so I could recoup. I was home at in bed (in the dark) by 2am and honestly probably better off for it.

Sorry I went and disappeared for the weekend. I was here reading but just couldn't post. First DH said something that made me cry for several hours yesterday. My reaction was totally hormonal. Any other time I would have snapped his head off for being rude and gone about the day. On top of that, I've slept a good 16 to 18 hours EACH DAY. Sazzles I think you mentioned being tired too. From Friday until Sunday (today still for me) I know I've been asleep more than awake. It's like my batteries have run out. The baby on the other hand has been awake and kicking loads. Even though I don't need to do kick counts I've been "practicing" and get EASY 10 kicks/moves within a minute....every time. Doesn't matter what time of day. THEN there's my brother and his family (DW, DS, DD1 & DD2) that are due in this week for possibly a month's stay (AT MY DAD's HOUSE NOT MINE) so I've been spot cleaning a little here and there so I won't be overwhelmed tomorrow. I've done nicely {{twilight pats herself on the back}}. I'm sore in the hips again possibly because of the mopping. I went for a float today in the warm therapy pool but that I think did more harm than good. After the soak I noticed a little spotting (and when I say little I mean only a tiny tiny bit and it was good old brown flakey stuff). Oddly for me I'm NOT alarmed. I've not soaked in anything for any length of time since my MC 25 weeks ago (where I bled LOADS). Then I got pregnant immediately. It just seems reasonable to me that I'd have a little brown stuff in there that doing water squats and such in the pool could dislodge. I've not had any since and that was seven hours ago. I even took a baby wipe and did a little check...nothing. My next appointment with my OB/GYN is Friday. If something seems odd, I'll pop in to see him before then. Or if my hips don't stop bothering me.... The last time I went through a big growth spurt it spread my pelvic joint in my butt but his time I'm feeling it in my hips. Kind of like SPD, I guess. Tylenol helps. I'll just watch it and see.

Since everyone is getting on the doll-yourself-up wagon I guess I should schedule an appointment to have my grey hair colored. I was thinking of going strawberry blond for the summer. My mother and grandfather were red heads so I could definitely pull it off. I just feel like shaking things up a bit.

Oh I did get brave today and mentioned the snip snip idea to DH. He said, "you said last time you weren't going to want another and look at you. what happens if..." I stopped him RIGHT THERE and said "MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!"

Captain how was DS's party and your shopping trip? I meant to email you back and as you can see from above got side-tracked.

Where's Dizzy?? Now I'm worried. She's never been away for so long without reason.

Cyteen my girl kitty has been cozied up to my bump a lot lately too. Deep down I think she knows what in there.

If I write anymore I might get banned from the thread. Sorry. Hi to everyone else. I will do better in the future. Promise.

Morning gals! Ds had a great time at his party yesterday and no doubt we will have fun today playing with all his new toys.

I've just emailed dizzy so am hoping she will reply to that soon. I also gave her my mobile no. so she can text me (assuming she can access her email!).

Glad you are ok miamla and that you were well looked after. You know you can always complain about the miserable night sister - things will never improve unless someone tells her about her 'attitude'. She may not even realise how miserable she is?!

Seconding your tiredness sazzles & ts, am feeling like I could sleep all day too!

Buckets · 05/05/2008 09:52

I've just come down with the sniffles too, the back of my face feels horrid iyswim and also very sleepy. Drinking half a pint of real ale last night probably didn't help but I was experimenting with beer in my breadmaking and only needed half the bottle. Funnily enough the bread doesn't taste in the least bit beery, same as usual just a bit more goldy in colour.

Longwayfromhome - that's my kind of recipe! Will put yoghurt on my shopping list this week.

pregnancy1 · 05/05/2008 10:14

Morning everyone,
Glad you are doing okay Miamla. I'm going to be at Whipps too, so fingers crossed your baby realises how good he has it inside there.
Just out of interest - when is everyone starting ante-natal classes? My NHS parenting ones don't start until week 35! NCT starts at week 32 which I still thought was a bit late....
