happy third trimester to me and Pip
Happy third trimester to me and Pip
Happy third trimester to both of us
Happy third trimester to us!

it all seems like times's moving a little too fast for my liking at the moment!! I bought some breast pads today so does that count as making a start on my hospital bag? hmm i thought not!

CC any news from the house viewers yet? from my experience it was the ones that seemed the least likely who ended up putting an offer in but keeping fingers crossed that this couple will be the ones for you
Hmm so maybe if its possible to do a virtual tour of the labour ward, its also possible to have a virtual labour?! their plan of no tours seems ridiculous!

TS I've just been trying to work out what CAMO stands for, thought it was another MN abbreviation! penny has only just dropped! doh!
don't let the ward nurse bother you, i'll get enough revenge in a few weeks for us all when i complain! I forgot to mention it in my essay yesterday but another thing she said was that i was only allowed to be in the private room if there was a risk i'd lose my baby...so so insensitive!
Ooh yes, a cup of peppermint tea would be lovely please. Have you got any biscuits to go with it?

Sazzles your experience of horrible midwife seems awful! I'm so pleased someone overheard.

dizzy you still get to go for a visit to toys r us for your birthday? i'm very jealous! I was told at about the age of 12 that i was too old for such trips anymore!
is the wedding actually in the castle or just the reception? either way, it sounds very grand! And yes, I agree with TS, we definitely want to see photos!

pregnancy1 i'm pretty sure the tours are on a Sunday at 2pm. I think we're planning on going this weekend coming if you or ALBS want to join us. Hmm i have more than 2 small piles but i still can't see them ever being a reason for inducing! Are you talking about the physio relaxation classes on a wednesday evening? if so, that's what i've been recommended i get on to as well. Our NHS antenatal classes seem to be a bit of a free for all. 4 sessions.. labour, abnormal labour, breastfeeding and health visitor. I'm sure you could just turn up to one of ours if Highams Park isn't too far for you. They certainly wouldn't find out about an interloper being there, I could have been visiting from Scotland for all they knew!
I was born at whipps too!

Sarah and poppy obviously no personal experience of trying to nappy train but a method that seemed to work with my friend and her two year old was a combination of nudity, a potty and a few days outside in the garden. any potty misses didn't matter and by her being naked already there wasn't a mad rush for her to struggle with her knickers each time
good luck girls and if you find a method that works, make sure you share it because we'll all be there in a couple of years!!

TwilightSurfer · 06/05/2008 12:43

Lost in translation again...CAMO or camouflage. That army, hide in the trees, look. Not something that's girly at all.

Potty training!!! Here's the best advice I got when I started potty training DD: She will train when SHE is ready to train. And that's basically how it went. I let her take the lead and when she showed interest...I went with it. It happened at last May/June to be exact. It was a gradual process with back sliding from time to time. For example she was potty trained at night until she got sick recently. Now she's wearing pull-ups at night only again. That will end soon too ask she's IN LOVE with her new froggy underwear. Little girls fancy pretty undies so buy them as a PRIZE. It takes a while. We went back on forth with disp diapers and real undies depending on our daily schedule. I made it VERY clear why we were using disp diapers during our outings and immediately changed her to real undies as soon as we were in our home again. Don't stress. Be prepared to do a lot of laundry and clean up accidents. That's just part of it. You're child will be potty trained quicker than you think.

Now if someone could teach me how to type using proper grammar and spelling. SO SORRY for my horrific last post. I'll try to wake up first before attempting to type.

sarahnh · 06/05/2008 12:48

thanks for that TS. my dd loves wearing pants and no nappies, loves to sit on the potty or toilet but doesn't do anything, just jumps on and off!!! i am going to keep trying particularly as the weather is suddenly nice... i just cannot bear the thoughts of having 2 in nappies!!!!xx

miamla · 06/05/2008 12:50

TS Hello, think its just us two on here at the moment! forgot to say earlier, MW has asked me to start doing the kick count. I've been told that I can't count more than one in a half hour period. eg if i get one at 11.05 and another at 11.20., that counts as one kick. but of course if i get another one at 11.35 that's kick number 2

hope this helps explain it to anyone else starting to do them

so TS what we having with our pancakes today?

miamla · 06/05/2008 12:51

sorry Sarah, didn't mean to ignore you there!

DD just asked for pancakes as a matter of fact. I'm hungry too. Just trying to enjoy my bed for a few more minutes.

I'm trying to grasp the kick count process you were given. Give me a second to consider it...I might not be confused after all.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 06/05/2008 13:02

Okay....WHY can't you count more than one kick in a 30 minute period?

I was told to count up to ten and denote how long it took to get the ten kicks/moves. As you progress if there's a significant drop in the time it takes to get ten kicks/moves tell your doctor. I had a link somewhere....

Sazzle I'll be lounging outside later maybe. DD has swim lessons but I don't want to go. BAD MOMMY!! I'm still uncomfortable and might see if my OB/GYN can see me...thus screwing up sunning time.

OP posts:
cyteen · 06/05/2008 13:04

Afternoon ladies, I am back from my GTT and feeling...a bit wobbly, tbh. Was fasting from 9.30pm last night, but that wasn't a problem as I ate so much for dinner that I actually made myself feel sick. So wasn't hungry at all when I went down for the test this morning. Gave my blood, drank the sugary crap, sat around, gave more blood, came home, packed up a load of washing and took it to the launderette, then came back and started to make some lunch and started shaking like crazy from all the lack of food and random exertion. What a div So I have eaten a big cheese sandwich and a load of grapes, and drank some apple juice, and now I am going to have a bit of a lie down to make sure I'm ok.

Loving the warm sunny weather today - think the squid likes it too, he's been really active for the last 48 hours or so. I was walking back from the GP's surgery with a big silly grin on my face, imagining chubby-cheeked toddlers running around in the sunshine. I am totally baby-brained today!

TwilightSurfer · 06/05/2008 13:05

Here it is.

Excerpt:
There are numerous ways to count your baby?s movements and numerous opinions on how many movements you are looking for within a certain amount of time. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that you time how long it takes you to feel 10 kicks, flutters, swishes, or rolls. Ideally, you want to feel at least 10 movements within 2 hours. You will likely feel 10 movements in much less time.

OP posts:
miamla · 06/05/2008 13:07

TS basically, multiple kicks in any half hour period only count as one kick.
Does that make it easier? Oh, and I agree with sazzles your post made perfect sense!

thanks for the congrats Sazzles Originally i wasn't bothered about his name sticking or not but now i'm not so sure. I suspect with my family it will stick given the ridiculous nicknames we've all got!
eg my mum has four children and we all call her by a different name. same goes for dad, he has four names too. as for my brothers and sister..yup, you've guessed it, many many more nicknames!

miamla · 06/05/2008 13:13

hmm, seems there's different advice out there for the kick thing! apparently i need to get 10 kicks in 12 hours.
Not sure why it doesn't count as more than one in a half hour period
I guess the important thing to get from it all is if we don't feel them moving for a little while then that is the time to start worrying

TwilightSurfer · 06/05/2008 13:22

Just seems like 12 hours is along time to be paying attention. But you're right...it's all about feeling them moving and if you don't then worry.

Cooking Heating up pancakes. Making some toast. Pouring OJ. Who's ready for breakfast?

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 06/05/2008 13:29

I've got a midwife app in an hour. Will see if i get put on the kick test yet (am 27+2 so I imagine this will be the time they tell me to if they're going to). I'll question the why multiple kicks within 30 min block don't count as more than one....

Was worried this morning cos baby was v quiet. Even had glass of coke and went and lay down. all ok now, but boy was i worried

Just off to wee in my little pot now. Am bursting - but wanted to wait til I was sure there was more than the nornal trickle

TwilightSurfer · 06/05/2008 13:36

ALBS your midwife will probably say American's are full of . Have fun!!

Cyteen I just reread your post. LOL about being baby-brained.

Pondering whether to shower before taking DD to swim class or not. It's only 30 minutes????? I spent most of yesterday in bed so surely I'm still clean.... I think I have LAZY SYNDROME.

OP posts:
Buckets · 06/05/2008 14:04

Does it not just mean she should feel at least 10 separate kicking sessions over a period of 12 hrs? And you can always bend over, get into funny positions to annoy the baby - I find slouching at the pc works everytime.

LadyOfWaffle · 06/05/2008 14:18

Quick Q if anyones around - how much are your babies moving? Can they still roll about at 26 weeks? All I can feel is small kicks in the same place every now and again (kicking downwards), whereas a few weeks ago the kicks were huge - I could see them.

ALBS, good luck at your app. {{hugs}} x

miamla · 06/05/2008 14:30

hi LofW, i'm not feeling any somersaults any more and actually, haven't "seen" as many big kicks recently (i'm 28wks today).A few weeks ago I remember Pip went through long quiet phases as well which was worrying but he seems happy. I've got a particularly tender patch on my right hand side. i found out from the MW today that his bum is just below this (same position he's been in for as long as i can remember) so his kicks are concentrated on one area. It makes sense that they're starting to run out of room in there!
I find that if i gently push my hand against where i think he is, he generally replies with a hefty punch. But as we all know, if you're worried, have a chat with your MW.

miamla · 06/05/2008 14:31

and ALBS hope your MW appt goes perfectly

careful Sazzles, you'll strain something with all that shovelling!

Mine had a dance when fuelled with Pimms a couple of weeks ago!
