Come on over!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
eandz · 02/05/2008 16:22

we're having babies!!! cute little devilish babies!!!!

ellideb · 02/05/2008 16:50

I all, just popping in. I get cramp in my toes too. I've heard that bananas are supposed to help- something to do with potassium. Worth a try.

ellideb · 02/05/2008 16:52

Oh and my morning sickness has made a return, like a long lost friend (not) Havn't actually been sick yet though but would love to heave, just feeling rough in the am's or after I have woken up from a nap. That 'n' heartburn. Bliss.

mamamufin · 02/05/2008 17:22

Sorry to hear ms is back ellideb. You poor thing.

dobbins · 02/05/2008 17:41

Hi guys! Update- still not much movement...but...just when I become a little paranoid and think of ringing the midwife I feel a tiny movement...then nothing again. He/she is playing with me!!!!!!

Still not looking very pregnant either- I have bump envy.....

ellideb · 02/05/2008 17:41

I think you've suffered enough mama, i wouldn't worry! So... have you been tempted to open the envelope yet???

carrieon · 02/05/2008 18:09

Its weirdly nice to know others have the same indigestion problems as me. Obviously not nice to have it, but nice not to be alone!

Drink tonic water to reduce cramps - its the quinine that works (gin optional ). Since I've been drinking a glass every couple of days my restless legs have all but disappeared.

We're not finding out the sex, partly coz of friends being told they were having a girl then having a boy and finding that very very odd, and because last time we absolutely loved the surprise.

Well, I can guarantee its going to rain this weekend, coz we've hired a skip and are FINALLY going to clear the garden!!

ellideb · 02/05/2008 18:19

Tonic water, good tip carrieon, my arms get a bit restless sometimes as well as my legs, dunno if thats normal though?

I find i feel the most kicks from LO whilst i am tapping away at this keyboard. I'm wondering about the effect its going to have on him?? Will he be soothed by the sound of typing when he is born? Will the light from the monitor have a calming effect on him? What will it do for his intelligence? Will he be a natural in I.T. and all things technical? (We've all heard playing classical music to your foetus has positive effects on their intelligence.) If so have any studies been conducted on a babies intelligence when their mothers have been addicted to MN?

MelT76 · 02/05/2008 18:30

Had my scan today. Well, what a cock up. My stupid midwife, filled in a form that went to the hospital with the wrong name on. When I booked in, the hospital didn't notice! Needless to say, we waited ages. After an hour DP went to check what was going on. they said they couldn't scan me as unless they could find out what had gone on and who had changed my name ( which by the way isn't even DPs name) they couldn't scan me! Queue another half hour wait until all sorted. Scan lasted 15 mins then I had to go for measurements. Unfortunatly, by then, everyone had gone home! So I have to go back again.

Sorry for the rant, but I feel much better now!

Oh and we are having a boy!!

digitalgirl · 02/05/2008 18:35

ive been desperate to stretch my legs in the morning as the muscles feel so tense, but I know if overdo it it will turn into a nasty cramp. Hoping a bit more yoga will sort it out.

On the mat pay front I only get maternity allowance as I started my job at 10 weeks pregnant. So I'm using up over two years savings to subsidise my 6 months off and pay the bills. God knows how we'll ever afford number two. I pay my own tax but if I didn't I'd be in the 40% so I'm losing a hefty sum.

We're deliberately not finding out the sex! Want a surprise. And really don't mind what flavour we get. Just so pleased to be having a baby. Oooo its kicking away, must sense my excitement!

carrieon · 02/05/2008 18:40

Urgh, we've just had an email to say the colour of Phil&Teds we ordered is out of stock til the end of May. This place is waaay cheaper than anywhere else, so now we're arguing discussing whether to get a different colour and get it sooner, the prob being that I want red, dh wants black, so the compromise (which is out of stock) is blue. Hmm. Clearly we don't need a double buggy yet, I jsut want something new to play with! I've ordered a maternity tankini though which is exciting, the person I borrowed one off (and gave birth in...)last time has taken it back. how rude.

biglips · 02/05/2008 18:58

god im sssooo miserable and upset as im full of cold and its the sciatica that is getting me down which ive been putting up with for a week. ive had it before when i was pg with dd but not this bad. ive gotta go see the physiotherapist tmrw which is a relief as cant go on like this. im not allowed to sit down at all so gotta lie down on the floor with quilt and loads of pillows. also with this raking cough....it hurts my ass!!!

rant over!

thanks for listening xx

surelyyoucantbeserious · 02/05/2008 20:09

imoscars thanks for your thoughts. I'm with you, the 'thing' I want most is to be able to spend lots of time with baby. I'm used to managing on not much income, I'm not very high maintenance! We are fortunate that we don't have mortgage/rent for short term (that'll change once baby comes and we will prob start renting again) and so I'm saving every penny and planning at least 9 mths off. Why not, eh.

lollipop you poor thing! my sister looks back and laughs at her last pregnancy which involved waking up in middle of night screaming 'grab my leg grab my leg' to her DH as it was cramping up so badly!! I don't think it was so funny at the time but hopefully you will look back and laugh... my yoga teacher recommended very gently shaking leg out and it seemed to work for me when I cramped up in yoga. Also eat more bananas? or is that a myth?

littlecon debbie and mama you're an inspiration! I love the idea of hearing the docs/midwives say 'it's a boy / girl'. Still time to cave in though...

surelyyoucantbeserious · 02/05/2008 20:15

wow just realised I was a whole page behind on the thread! Moves to fast! Can you imagine how full the labour wards are going to be in Sept....

biglips sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon...

carrieon · 02/05/2008 20:23

The thing to remember with cramp is to flex your foot, NOT point it (that's naughty toes, not good toes in ballet speak). Train yourself to remember this even at 3am, I find it gives instant relief, even though its not what comes to you naturally. That and the tonic water. Hope we're all in for a better night's sleep tonight!
Does anyone else feel a little bit bad putting their dcs to bed in broad daylight?!

carrieon · 02/05/2008 20:45

Have just realised how bossy that comes across, sorry!
Have persuaded dh to go for the red Phil&Teds coz clearly we need it Right Now
Right, off to buy wedding presents on line...

MummyToOneForNow · 02/05/2008 20:53

Can't believe how fast the thread is moving! We chose not to find out the sex with dd and we want a surprise with this one too - it is nice to have something to look forward to and something to announce other than the weight! As we didn't know she was a girl all of dd's newborn clothes were white/neutral so we don't need to worry about shopping.

I'm planning a full year off (am a teacher and think it would be hard to go back in the summer term when the classes have been used to another teacher for so long). I can give my return date as the first day of the summer holidays I think so will only have to take about 5 weeks of unpaid additional maternity leave. I went part time (60%) after dd was born and am in school just over 3 days per week which is a good balance as I am with her more than I am not iyswim?

eandz · 02/05/2008 21:22

yes, this thread moves very fast . about sciatica...it was soo bad i went to the er *(Emergency Room)-- it was actually my first pregnancy symptom and this doctor (in Las Vegas) took one look at me and told me I was pregnant...since he hadn't taken any bloods or a pee test I told him he was crazy so he shrugged and gave me pain meds...2 months later I still had it and was told by my mother, husband and gp to take a pg test. i took one to humor everyone thinking it'd would be negative ANND it wasn't. So now i'm like everyone on this thread...at 5 months, but still have sciatica problems.

i'm using a 'dream geni' (some pregnancy pillow) a hot shower and like 6 excercises everyday...now I only have the sciatica problem in my left butt cheek down to my left thigh. it's soooo annoying. Also my toes...I'm hoping God will take mercy on my poor toes and relieve them of this pain.

Biglips and EandZ - I think i'll take my cramp over your back woes, you both sound in horrible pain, I feel for you.

Good tip about the tonic water, i'll definitely give that one a go.

Does anyone know when we're supposed to start doing the ante-natal classes and how we go about it?

barnpot · 02/05/2008 23:07

hi all, spent all day catching up on the previous thread then this one, not a slow reader was doing oher things in between.
and off sick from work as have awful fverish cold, which I cought from this woman at work. she knows I'm pregnant and insisted on sitting next to me and coughing in my face -nice!! so really suffering at the mo, cant breath or anything. and to make things better, in my hour of need dh is leaving me tomorrow to go fix someones fence.
spent all day wednesday crying cos finished nights, was so tried, had some bad news, felt rotten with cold and increadibly hormonal. phoned mum, who also started crying which made me feel even worse, (as she has a lot of stress with my brother) so cept crying until dh came home from work, at 4.30.

sorry for ranting, dont feel like I can say this stuff to other people. but apart from cold feeling much better, scan next friday yay!

splishsplosh · 02/05/2008 23:10

Lollipop - if you mean NHS antenatal classes, they usually start fairly late, after 30 weeks. Here they send out the information on how to aply with the 12 week scan appointment, but I still haven't done anything about it. If you haven't received any info, your mw should be able to advise you.

I feel like a fraud - don't have any symptoms, and no one can tell I'm pg still. But it's weird. cos feel like I'm changing shape more above my belly button than below.

Good news about more happy scans

Sassafrass · 02/05/2008 23:10

Hi everyone, if anyone is curious about why after having two babies of the same sex the odds are in favour of a third the same this is why...

The sperm decided the sex. The egg is always X cromosome. The guy has sperms with x cromosomes and sperm with y cromosomes. If an x sperm comes first it's a girl, if it's a y it's a boy. Some men have a dominance of one type of sperm and will therefore have a much higher chance of engendering a certain sex. (paraphrased from my lovely swedish book "the journey of life). So, it's all down to the daddy =) Then of course there are all the theories about the girl sperms being slower swimmers but surving longer and boy sperm swimming fast and dying quick to help aid in when to have sex to maximise chances as well.

splishsplosh · 02/05/2008 23:12

barnpot and Biglps - sorry to hear you're both feeling down / ill

barnpot · 03/05/2008 06:30

with the x y chromosome thing our science teacher always said that the X chromosome is slower because its carrying extra genes as it has a extra stick if you can imagine:
/ /
/\ and / the lower \ is missing on the Y which therefore makes it lighter and able to travel faster, use up all its energy quicker and dies faster, where as the X has no option to travel slower because of the extra weight uses less energy and therefore lives longer???????
thats what we were told, how true I don't know??!!!
