hello all, I have just registered. Not sure if this is the correct place to introduce myself but I will go ahead anyway.

I am 20wks today - due on 18 September and having a boy. I am 40 and have a 20yr old son. That was all so long ago this might as wel be my first. All is going well except he doesn't move or kick much and that freaks me out.

He was kicking hard all day yesterday but not once yet today. I am just sat at my desk waiting for the little bugger to give some sign of movement!

eandz · 01/05/2008 15:34

aww thats soo sweet mrs boogie. i'm sure he'll start dancing soon. mine kicks up a storm around 8pm.

yeah i wonder too about the new mayor...the current one is just a tad bit interesting as far as politician is concerned. cuba...really? and still no free gas?

so if they can't be bothered to give us a leaflet we should find their phone number, phone them and ask them for their manifesto? Good job I haven't seen the thread you were on startlight or I might have got a bit involved too!

And back to the original discussion of names. kirstiegem are you having any problems with names that you used to like but now they make you think of pupils you'd rather not be reminded of?

eandz · 01/05/2008 17:04

ok so i don't know if you guys have facebook or not...but i do...and my away message was "can't wait till tomorrow"

and a friend of mine wrote on my wall "I'm going to a funeral..but yippeee!!! "

the thing is the whole wall is covered in pregnancy talk and happy baby info from other friends who are far far away....so i was wondering if it's wrong of me to get a little offended and remove her message.

lollipopmother · 01/05/2008 17:29

EandZ I wouldn't be offended, I don't really know what she means by it even, but I'd assume the best in her ie she's happy for whatever is happening to you tomorrow even though she's off to a funeral.

Mrs Boogie - Welcome to our thread. Have you noticed any patterns in the kicking yet? Mine is always kicking around lunch time and again when I'm in bed at night, still not hard enough for my partner to feel yet but that's my front lying placenta I think.

dobbins · 01/05/2008 17:35

Hello! Wow there are so many due in September- we were all feeling the love around Christmas and New year I guess!!! Have heard that September is one of the busiest times for midwives...!

About the movements (thanks for all the reassuring advice)- still baby not as active as a few days ago but feeling a few movements only each evening so a little more reassured. Sure I must have a front placenta as quite a few of you have suggested- all will become clear I guess at scan next week...

Hello Mrs Boogie!- Also new to this thread! also due on 18th September but don't know the sex yet- will find out next week all being well at 20 week scan.

dobbins · 01/05/2008 17:43

Hi Starlight (such a cool name- unlike mine which kind of sounds like a donkey or something- don't know why I chose it- random!!)

This is my first baby- generally fairly laid back about the pregnancy but there is a lot to worry about too- don't want to be one of those over anxious about everything people but I do find mums net great as you don't feel alone. I haven't met any other pregnant mums in my area so no pregnancy buddies yet except mumsnet!!

oh yes!! Maybe that's where I got it from without realising it- much better than a donkey afterall...

imoscarsmum · 01/05/2008 17:55

Hello all! Haven't posted for a week or so - bloody hell at the amount of posts!

All getting quite exciting now - am 19+5 today and scan on Wednesday. I wish time would slow a bit cos I really want to enjoy this pregnancy as it could be my first and last (I'm 36).
Not really feling much movement yet - no kicking or anything but some 'dragging' sensations - nothing worrying, almost like I've got a little rabbit in there (but a rabbit with no legs). God I talk crap sometimes.

Hope things all well - mamamuffin has ms finally passed yet? How's Hopefully doing with her working from home?

I'm having bizarre dreams - I kid you not, last night I dreamt I had to look after a rhino who lived across the road, and I had to set him up on a date with one of my friends......

On a more serious note, I am a bit worried about the reactions I am getting when I say i have to go back to work full-time. My colleagues (some working 4 days a week themselves, with 2 kids) raise their eyebrows and say 'really? will you cope?'. Their kids are in childcare 4 days a week anyway. DP and I have discussed at length (&he feels bad about it) but he has just started a new business and we need my salary to pay our bills, plus I have a defined benefit pension and he has nothing, and it will be cut if I work part-time.

DP's mum will probably take the baby for 1 or 2 days a week so we only have to find childcare fees for 3 or 4 days (plus my employer gives childcare vouchers), so it is just the way it is for us. I guess I am rambling (sorry for long post) but is there anyone else wokring full-time with a child on here? Will I really feel like the scum of the earth for doing this?
(Btw, I work 2 days a week from home, permanently and also work flexi time, so things should be quite flexible - I will just have to physically work 5 days a week).

lollyheart · 01/05/2008 17:57

Hi welcome to all the new ladies.

I had my scan is today all is well and its a boy.

i cant wait now i want him now not at 20 weeks tho i wish i was 40 weeks.

my friend had a little boy today im so excited cant wait to meet him.

ive got a job interview next week should i tell them i am pregnant or wait till im 25 weeks? its only part time evening work.

imoscarsmum · 01/05/2008 17:57

PS Hi Dobbins welcome to you - like you, my first baby too and I know exactly what you mean - don't want to be obsessive, trying to trust my instincts but also quite over awed by what my body is doing. I think I am finally starting to not worry so much and start to bond with my flumpet. I have started to talk to him or her now.

eandz · 01/05/2008 18:00

yeah, dobby the house elf!

it's ok dobbins, i haven't found any pregnancy buddies either. the nct in my area is really dis organized and haven't told me if i've got a place in any classes or not...and they're asking me to help out with stuff but never get in touch with me. i'm probably ostracized because of my accent.

but the girls on here are amazing...

Sunshinemummy · 01/05/2008 19:26

OK all I had my scan today and all is well, thankfully.

We also found out that we're having...a girl! We are so so so excited - can't believe we're going to have one of each. Of course DP has now said he doesn't want anyone else to know - there is no way on earth I can keep a secret for 3.5 months!

He also doesn't want me to discuss our chosen name with anyone, including you guys, I'm afraid, so it will have to wait until I give birth.

We also saw obstetrician today and discussed the CS. He will do it at around 39 weeks, which is the anniversary of the day my mum died, and DD's middle name is going to be my mum's name. I started to get a little freaked by that but the actual date is on a Sunday so I'll either give birth on the Friday or Monday.

imoscarsmum I work full-time and I'll be going back f-t after this one too - DS is in nursery f-t too. I really wouldn't worry about anyone's reactions. The hardest thing for me is that the mall under where I work is always full of mummies and babies at lunchtime, which makes me really miss DS, but it also makes me appreciate the time I have with him all the more. One thing I would say, if you can afford it, is get yourself a cleaner as the last thing you want to do with the precious time you have with your child, is to clean the house.

One other thing I would say is that DS loves nursery and has really thrived there. I know it's not for all children, but he is such a social, active, happy child and his language skills are amazing for his age.

Anyway, will pop back later as DS and DP in bath together so want to go and join the fun. Congrats to all other happy scanners.

izzybiz · 01/05/2008 20:35

Hi guys, congrats to all with scan news!

Welcome to newbies

Just wanted to come on and say Dd felt the baby move this evening

We have been out all day on her playschool trip, so baby must have slept all day, as since we got in its been dancing around!
I'm so chuffed that she was first to feel it!

Anyway, that all my news for today!

Am getting at all these baby girls being confirmed, I cant help but think it give me less chance of having a girl!

carrieon · 01/05/2008 20:38

hopefully thanks for commenting on our names dilema, I am also more of the 'lets piss them off for a few months' mentality

starlight our chosen girl's name fits your criteria I think - Jessica.

debi I think its fine to have two dcs with the same initial, the thing I refuse is a ds with the same initial as dh, so you get two lots of post to 'Mr P Smith' or whatever. But I'm quite sad like that!

Sunshinemummy · 01/05/2008 20:39

Izzybiz we're amazed we're having a girl as the chances of you having another of the same sex are apparently much much higher than you having a different sex.

carrieon · 01/05/2008 20:50

lollipop thank you for your comments too. Dh and I each have an alternative name that we love, sadly its not the same as each other's!!

I have such awful indigestion. It takes the form of gas creeping up loudly inside my chest which is very uncomfortable and so loud it kept dh awake last night too (one of us ought to be getting some sleep!). It took 3 doses of gaviscon to ease it. Its only after dinner that it affects me, so I feel like a baby with colic. And dd has been screaming and not eating for 2 days now. Its not an ear infection but whatever it is I wish she'd get over it, I'm knackered.
