is anyone having weird urges to crystalise things? i usually like sparkly things, but find jewelled phones a little bit on the tacky side...but now all of a sudden deep down inside i want to jewell up my blackberry.

mamamufin · 18/05/2008 12:34

eandz no such like urges this end . I cant wait to get all the plastic boxes down from the loft containing all the little baby clothes, blankets, toys and hundreds of baby bits . However the guest room that will become the nursery has a double bed up and only a tiny wardrobe. Dh is insisting that we do things in order and take the bad down, order the wardrobes and put the border up before I can play around with the fine details . Luckily, the carpet is new and cream and the walls are magnolia. It will be a perfect base for the barnaby bear range I have from ds.
It looks like its going to rain now, so we have just had to take the bouncy castle down. chat soon. xx

I think a change as everyone must be just about 20 weeks by now (don't some places do the scan slightly later) but I can't think of a good name! Maybe something reflecting the fact that we all look pregnant at last and not just fat?!! Or how about "goodbye morning sickness, hello heartburn and backache?". Or maybe that's just a bit too depressing!!!

jearund · 18/05/2008 13:06

I'm feeling a lot less knackered today by the way. DD had mercy on me this morning - she still woke at about 7:15 but just made noises I could ignore so I went back to sleep and she went quiet. When she stirred again it was 8:30!!!

She cut herself this morning. She picked up my plate after I'd finished my toast and dropped it on the floor. Of course it smashed (tiles) and she tried to help me pick the pieces up before I could stop her. I didn't even realise she'd cut herself until later when I saw blood. So she had her first plaster......which stayed on for all of one minute! How are you supposed to stop young children removing plasters?

Out of those I vote for either 'Due Sept 08: Dreaming of maternity leave' or
'Due Sept 08: Counting down rather than up now!'

eandz · 18/05/2008 13:33

i vote for 'due sept 08: counting down rather than up now' ...

i hunger. i really want to order a pineapple and chicken pizza but my husband thinks it's gross...humph!

meglet · 18/05/2008 14:03

I vote for counting down rather than up.

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 14:13

EandZ - I don't want to bling everything up, but I have suddenly decided that yellow is my favourite colour and EVERYTHING has to be yellow! This is due to the nursery being yellow/white/cream but it seems that I am now only interested in yellow things, even if it isn't to do with the nursery!

eandz · 18/05/2008 14:24

Lollipopmother,
I only want to bling my phone or laptop... possibly a doorknob but not much else. I am however obsessed with the color of green apples.

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 14:25

Mamamuffin - For some reason I went from 'we can't possibly buy anything for the baby until at least 7 months because otherwise it'll jinx it' to 'If we don't get the nursery done right this second I am going to die of impatience and nothing will ever be right in my life ever again!!' I don't know why I feel like this, E is going to be sleeping in our room in a moses basket for the first couple of months anyway, but I was thinking that during the day she could still be put in her cot in the nursery for naps. I don't know whether this will work though, I don't know my arse from my elbow when it comes to babies, I don't think I've even picked one up before.

Last night I was up until 1:30am trying to understand reusable nappies, I feel it can't be that hard but I just don't get it AT ALL! I also need to get a mattress and this is really bugging me, there is too much choice. I don't want to come across as all PFB and go over the top with it, I have my eye on a £79.99 one from Mothercare - this one, it's a lot more money than I was going to spend but the cot has detatchable sides so it turns into a bed, which means I'm hoping to get a couple of years use out of it, and then also if we have another I will want to use it again, which means it should have a removable top so that it can be replaced/washed as otherwise apparently it increases the risk of SIDS.

Before I found the removable top one I was going to get one off ebay (new) for £39.99. Please tell me - is £79.99 too PFBish? We have saved up money over the last 2 years specifically to be spent on the baby, so we can afford it, but I don't want to waste money either, I'm not made of money! Tell me the truth ladies, I won't be upset if you think I'm either being really stingy or totally over the top.

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 14:30

EandZ I am loving the idea of a blinged-up doorknob, you must do it and send us the pics! I think you could just get sticky/adhesive gems in various colours and it'd look fantastic!

I feel your pain re the green apples, I went round Ikea yesterday stopping at just about everything that was yellow.

mamamufin · 18/05/2008 15:05

Hi guys
I like the count down rather than up thread tittle. I am really looking forward to the day we can start a thread "woah, ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN" [GRIN].
I am loving oranges at the moment. I have just juiced half a dozen of them and put it in a jug in the fridge. It must be a citrus fruit thing we have going on.
Lolli I think I am reaching the " I want it all done this second stage" However, my dh is not getting it and as I need his help to get in the loft I am getting really frustrated.
I think that matress from mothecare is a great investment especially if you want further dc's. I invested in an expensive one with ds. It has a cover that I can zip off and wash if that makes sense.
EANDZ i want a blingy door knob too! x

mamamufin · 18/05/2008 15:08

Oh and we have already had our lunch. I did lamb shanks (in the slow cooker), baby vegetables and roast potatoes. It was delicious. I really like eating again. Right whats next to do? x

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 15:15

Ohh I love lamb shanks! We are having a roast later, my DP cooks up a mean roast so I know it is going to be lush!

Mamamuffin - I am looking at it as an investment as well, and my DP thinks it sounds reasonable, but we don't actually know what we're talking about so it'd be very easy to sell us just about anything right now!!

potxola · 18/05/2008 15:50

What About "In Sept 08 we are all going to be great mums" I am feeling very positive.
Ignore it, it is probably too silly.
Starlight is better at these things

ok, someone told me that the baby will shed skin like a snake...and it'll be gross... it's one of my friends from uni...but i'm not sure if i believe her.

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 17:24

Yes I heard that you should try and get a routine going for bedtime so that they know when it's time for bed, washing could be a wind-down, or it could be a complete wind-up if they hate it! I am definitely going to go with the flow on that one.

I will definitely take your advice Starlight about disposables for the first couple of days, you're right, we're going to be in at the deep end big style!

I was just sitting in my new chair in the nursery looking around at it all and it suddenly hit me that I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING! I think this feeling is going to get worse as it gets closer to the due date. I suppose this is why I've suddenly decided that everything has to be done right this instant, the feeling of being out of my depth and trying to be prepared. I have a funny feeling none of us new mums are going to be prepared at all!!

mamamufin · 18/05/2008 17:25

potxola I share your positiveness, I am just so excited now.
I just go with the flow really with regards to routine and things. I found it the best way and still do. I generally pop ds in the bath with dh most nihgts for a quick splash together. They love it and I can be heating up the milk, getting pjs and story book ready.
Star I have never started a new thread in my life and am worried I will mess it up for you all.
I have just vacummed and damp clothed the stage 1 car seats from both our cars as we have the big boy seats now. As soon as they dry I am going to put them in storage bags and suggest dh puts them in the loft (we wont need them till babe is at least 12 months) I knew I would get him up there somehow .
