Come on over!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Sunshinemummy · 09/05/2008 13:59

On the c-section from, not everyone struggles to recover from it. I certainly didn't with DS and was up and about the day after surgery and going out regularly from the day after I came home from hospital (DP took me for oysters - yummy). Different people react in different ways to things. Having said that I would still have preferred to give birth vaginally if that had been possible (I also had problems dilating).

eandz · 09/05/2008 14:13

....see the thing is, i gained about 1.5 stone before I realized I was pregnant (so gained that weight in my first 3 months). and now i think i'm a complete 2 stones heavier than I normally am....at this point it's hard to tell the difference between pregnancy and non related pregnancy fat (since I gained all the weight during my pregnancy.)... just at all the wrong times.

so now i'm worried about getting my body back. i understand that babies and family are great to have but i really feel terrible about myself if i remain this way for too long.

so i suppose c-section just wont be the right way for me, however more convenient it is for me. hopefully i'll be able to deliver normally with an epidural.

hopefully · 09/05/2008 14:45

Gosh, we're actually debate birth plans - that means accepting that something is coming out of me, one way or another! Actually am less stressed about birth than I expected, although there's plenty of time for stress levels to rise again before it happens.

Sunshinemummy · 09/05/2008 15:25

Eandz whether you have the cs or not, I don't think it has any bearing on your weight later. Some people ping back into shape, some don't. Some have to work bloody hard at it, some don't. I never got back to my pre-baby weight but am hoping to be more disciplined this time around.

blimey · 09/05/2008 16:58

sunshinemummy you did very well after your CS! I was hobbling around for quite a while. My second was better than my first though, I found arnica seemed to help.

I agree mode of delivery does not influence weight loss post birth!

eandz · 09/05/2008 18:11

i'm actually worried about a flappy stomach...it's bad enough that i'll be sporting a flappy bloody vag post birth and my bump will probably still be here...i'm actually really afraid of that and my ability to cope with not being able to return to my usual decent looking self. i'm already freaking out and losing confidence because of the way i look whilst pregnant. maybe i'm a bit overly high strung. not sure.

Sassafrass · 09/05/2008 19:10

Once you have your child it will probably be the last thing on your mind for a couple of months at least. Give yourself a year to get back into a shape, at least a year. And remember what a miracle you have performed.

I had a emergency cs and took ages to recover and was in a lot of pain for several weeks. Really wouldn't recommend it unless it's really needed.

Izzibiz - Thank you! I think they are gorgeous but I'm biased lol!

Yes another little man for us too. Congrats on your blue bump Have you thought of any names yet? It's soooo hard.

I can't wait to see if he is going to be the image of Daddy. Isabel is. No mistaking it there!

xx

eandz · 09/05/2008 19:53

eh... i have a critical family. no one in my family or husbands family has ever gotten bigger than a size 6 uk during pregnancy and i'm sitting here in a size 12....the last time my dad saw me he asked me if i'd eaten his daughter. (we all didn't know i was pregnant at the time...but theres no excuse for the weight i've put on...i'm just worried i'll never look human.)

Bit of a crappy day today.

Remember my post a couple of weeks ago re: bleeding nipples (sorry if tmi) well, the midwife finally rang me and said I should see my GP which I did today and she is referring me to the hospital for tests. I suppose I thought they would just "oh, nothing to worry about!" but they didnt and now I have to tell dh.

LouiseAnn · 09/05/2008 20:11

Hello all. I have been away for over a day as my blood pressure was up. I went into the antenatal ward yesterday morning and they decided to keep me in. I was finally let out at 5pm today. It was actually quite nice having a rest and being fussed over. I also got to hear baby's heart several times. My Methyldopa has been doubled and that seems to have brought my BP down.

Like many others, I am feeling tired. It is partly due to the Methyldopa. I heard a midwife on the ward today tell someone that it would make you feel tired.

Being on the antenatal ward made me feel I am actually pregnant. And I am also feeling baby properly now. On the other hand, most women there were many more weeks bigger than me. One woman was moved to the delivery suite last night.

DebitheScot · 09/05/2008 20:19

This evening ds came over to me and said "kiss baby" then lifted up my top and kissed my tummy! It was sooooooooo sweet. Completely made up for him being a bit of a horror earlier!!

eandz · 09/05/2008 20:29

hmm not really... we're just a bunch of tiny women. we get overweight (like rolls of fat) when we hit a size 10.

barnpot · 09/05/2008 20:35

OMG seriously, I'm having a baby, it really hit me today in the supermarket after the scan (having a wee boy BTW). whats going to happen??? I know all the mechanics and stuf, but hes going to be totally reliant on us for everything. cant quite get head around the lil being inside me with its little arms and legs, really getting freaked out by it.
and I'm growing a penis, but i'm a girl, but i have a penis???
its such a confussing time at the mo.
DH keeps asking why I'm being quiet, is it normal to feel like this?

WombFor1More · 09/05/2008 20:36

becaroo - try not to worry hun I had the EXACT same thing as you. Doc took a look and a squeeze lol and sent me off for tests. Waited 2wks for an apointment, was very worried then when I finally got there I had 2 doctors or whatever they were looing at my boobs, getting me to squeeze them to see the problem only for them to say....."it's perfectly normal in pregnancy to get a bloody type discharge with the colostrum, it's purely down to all the hormones floating around!"

I was soooo worried too. Really hope you have the same thing. They never tell you these things though do they?

xxxx

WombFor1More · 09/05/2008 20:37

Btw they sent me home straight away without any further tests. (this was in previous preg)

Hi all- congratulations to all of you with your confirmed boys, I feel abit left out not knowing. I too have bought alot of parsnip and zeddy stuff so that it will be unisex.

Was told today that I will have to have c- section and vbac2 is no option so will just go with this and think of healthy baby instead of another operation. Must look on positive side. Have decided on boys name still cant make up my mind on a girls. We like oliver for a boy but will call him ollie although I am told that this name is now quite common, I dont know any so thats all that matters.

For a girl I like loads I love maisey and isobel and olivia also grace and sooo many more.

Anyway bed for me the tiredness has come back with a bang and I can just about keep my eyes open past 9. night everyone

TreadmillMom · 09/05/2008 22:05

OMG shock of shocks. 20 week scan yesterday and DH and I were stunned into jaw dropping silence after 2 sons we're having a GIRL, can't bloody believe it, we were both seriously expecting another boy. We should of known better really, I am the youngest with 2 older brothers. My eldest brother had 2 sons then a daughter, so history is truly repeating itself.

Baby is absolutely fine, in fact she looks a real chunky girl, some meat on them there bones.

Mom made me laugh today, 'Ensure you're sterilised when you have this one'.

'What? No way', says I.

'It doesn't hurt', she says.

The over 60s are hilarious.

If I were 46 knocking out my 8th child I might consider it. Crikey!

Treadmillmom - WOW!!!! I bet you are soooo excited! I had 2 ds then my dd. I went totally girly mad, still am lol. Just a shame I can't reuse all my millions of girls things this time around.

Huge congrats on your new baby daughter

Lollipopmother - It's the Great Expectations article, starts on page 42 then for about the next 4 pages! Thanks for looking

eandz · 10/05/2008 09:32

btw, i had my 20 wk scan yesterday... I too need a growth scan. Should I be worried?

splishsplosh · 10/05/2008 09:57

eandz - don't worry too much about the scan (although I know you like to worry ) as baby's growth isn't always predictable, if the baby looks a bit big or small for dates, they'll keep an eye on you, but usually it'll be fine. Dd looked a bit big at her 20 week scan, but was "normal" when they scanned me later.

I was sent info on NHS antenatal classes with my 12 week scan date, so I emailed them as instructed to say I'd like a refresher class and active birth class, and they've just written back to say classes have changed, ask your m/w when you see her. I'm not due to see the m/w til I'm 28 weeks, in 8 weeks time - doesn't that seem a bit late to be asking? Unless they've just stopped doing classes altogether.

p is doing his 3 hr stint of childcare before he no doubt pleases himself for the rest of the weekend, so may go back to bed and read / doze while I have the chance.
