EandZ you don't say why you need a growth scan?

treadmillmom congrats on girl, I am a bit sad I don't have a girl really, BUT healthy baby is the main thing and I know what to do with boys!!!

carrieon · 10/05/2008 13:15

I'm 20 weeks today, half way already - how did that happen?!! The neighbours have started noticing too!

We had the worst night last night, dd woke up screaming at 4am. If she wakes overnight its always at about that time, and we ignore her, and she burbles about, cries a bit and eventually goes back to sleep, but last night it was something else. We gave her milk, calpol, cuddles, and even a dummy (we've been dummy free for a fortnight now so you can tell how bad the situation was!!) but if I dared to put her back in her cot she gave the most blood curdling screams. Eventually got her back down after 2 hours, and did a gradual retreat of the room. She cried a bit when I finally left but settled down (thank you mr dummy). I've never had to sit with her like that, it was really bad. I can only assume it was yesterday's jabs, although there was no fever and she'd eaten and drunk plenty and she seems fine today. But we're exhausted and we've got visitors.

loved the article womb

jearund · 10/05/2008 14:22

potxola what a fabulous idea, Lorea and my son! And of course there is also your son and my daughter - I think there's a 3-year age gap between them. Do you think they'd fancy a double wedding? It would keep the costs down....

eandz · 10/05/2008 15:16

Bllimey--

my doctor said that the baby is big and that he wants to make sure he won't stop growing? i didn't know what he meant by that so i kept asking and thats what he kept repeating. maybe i'm just super dumb.

potxola · 10/05/2008 17:11

CONGRATULATIONS on the boys and girls!!!!!!
Jearound my son is 4 in September.
The double wedding is a great idea.
Have you thought of a name for the little hombre?

blimey · 10/05/2008 19:37

eandz maybe they worry that the placenta won't keep up with how big the baby is. Dunno, wdn't worry though - no point!!!
I had 2 very big babies before. Are they going to check you for gest diabetes? I routinely got checked for this at 28 weeks but it has been normal twice, and my first boy was 12 4! some of us just grow 'em big!!!
big babies generally are better off than littlies.

becaroo · 10/05/2008 21:30

Womb..thanks for that...I'm still a bit worried and dh is too, but am putting it to the back of my mind for now. I have my 20 week scan on monday (although I will be nearly 22 weeks by then!) and have decided to concentrate on that

Congratulations to all those who have had scans and found out the flavour of their little ones...my ds keeps telling me that if its a boy we will call it "nicey" and if its a girl we will call it "yucky"...no prizes for guessing which he would prefer!!!

eandz..I am booked in for growth scans from 28 weeks onwards as my ds had IUGR and was very small at birth, but they are also done when you are measuring large for dates.

eandz · 10/05/2008 22:35

becaroo-- your son sounds hilarious!

whats IUGR? my doctor doesnt think checking for gestational diabetes isn't going to be necessary but who knows.

blimey · 10/05/2008 23:24

intra uterine growth retardation

night ladies!

biglips · 11/05/2008 07:34

eandz - i was told by my sonographer that all babies are the same size till they get to 24 weeks and then they start growing different sizes. i look huge myself and starting to feeling heavy for the past few weeks. Have bought a cot toy (my DD chose that), a few babygros and bibs. Will be going in the loft and sorting out the baby's stuff soon.

Found out that i dont have sciatica but a loose pelvic joint!!. as it was very stiff but been to the physiotherapist twice and she had shows me the exercises to do all the way thru the pg to tone my bum and back. Feel so much happier now as i was on the verge of saying im not enjoying this pg but now i am again.

mustsleep · 11/05/2008 09:01

hi everyone

haveing a fab weekend it's lovely here and have been sat i the garden while ds plays on the trampoline although he has just taught himself how to do somersaults and it makes me cringe just slightly

dd is fast asleep most of the day as this weather just takes it out of her on firday she slept from 10.30 and i had to wake her at 3.20 to collect ds from school but she still went to bed at 6.30!!

baby is also somersaulting around, and my back is agony now, am going to ask the midwife on thurs when i go what i can use to sooth it a bit, but it really was murdering me last night

can you use deep heat? she might give me one of those support belts mightn;t she? i think it is the size of my bump, people keep saying i look like i'm full term!!

what exactly is sciatica i wonder if i have this?

becaroo · 11/05/2008 09:09

eandz...IUGR - intrauterine growth restriction. Basically, my ds stopped growing at 32 weeks but it was not picked up on til he was born. I think my placenta was a bit dodgy.

Anyone else getting braxton hicks already? This morning my bump was hard as a rock! I got them wth ds, but MUCH later on. Then again, I am MUCH bigger this time! also saw my tummy actually move for the first time last night! VERY exciting!

Lovely and sunny here but I am too hot....

Scan tomorrow!!!!

(Mustsleep - sciatica is basically a trapped nerve in your spine - VERY painful but very common in pregnancy. Are the pains shooting down your legs? If so, it probably is sciatica.)

kiskideesameanoldmother · 11/05/2008 09:16

i also think i have the loose hip joints thing. i have been avoiding phoning the mw as i find them not very informative or bright. i think i will however be at the hospital to meet the senior midwife/matron (not sure of her job title) on Thursday so i will mention it and maybe get her to refer me to a physio! does that count as cheating?

were it not for the dodgy hips i would think that i am not pg as i rarely feel any kicks and lurches as my placenta is anterior. DD1 was such an acrobat. I felt her definitely by 14 wks and I still only rarely feel little pops with this one.

mamamufin · 11/05/2008 09:32

Hi guys, Im back.
Just been catching up on all of your posts. Wow I have missed alot, shoes, boobs, backache, money, weddings! He He.
Glad u had a nice holiday Star.
Lovely to hear all the gender news. Since we have found out its a boy we have been brought so much blue stuff its amazing . I think it is keeping the familys mind off the funeral which is next thurs. Its going to be a sad day. We went to chester zoo on friday as a change of scence for dh. We had a lovely day.
Ds is looking forward to becoming a "big brudder" as he keeps telling everyone. He asked wheter he can share a room with the baby like his friends do. Not sure wheter 4 years is too big an age gap for this. Any ideas? Its a massive room. I could always do the nursery as planned then move the baby over later not sure really. I am looking forward to finshing work asap. They have been so nice to me thru my ms and let me take last week as annual leave, I dont want to leave them in the lurch.
Anyway guys. I am still awaiting my bump. . I look like I have ate a couple to many pies around my middle but not pregnant. Still the same weight too which is amazing. My appertite has really picked up so I am not expecting this to last. I think the babe is lying on my back as I too am getting backache. mustsleep i find a warm hot water bottle helpful. My bits also ache when I walk fast.
Warm day today here. Thank you all for your support and kind messages, it means alot xx

potxola · 11/05/2008 09:41

becaroo · 11/05/2008 10:06

My lovely dh has promised to take me away for the weekend in July but we are stuck for ideas....I will be 33 weeks by then so nowhere too far (i.e. UK) and I fancy some pampering.

Wuold love to go to London and see a show, but dh isnt mad about that idea!

Any thoughts???

eandz · 11/05/2008 10:59

becaroo-- would you be interested in a spa retreat somewhere in the country?

if you still want to do london you could do the 'great expectations' pregnancy massage at bliss spa...i haven't been there yet myself but i was a bliss freak when i was growing up in the states. i went to bliss for absolutely EVERYTHING! The bliss spa in london is in kensington and it's across the street from my favorite Malaysian restaurant (I think we'll be having the babys' bris, christening...party there).

on the braxton hick contractions--- so i went to sleep thinking i was having really slight after-orgasm orgasms because i was contracting very gently and stuff... but then this morning woke up and felt the same contracting thingers again and sort of felt weird about it. I mean dh isn't that amazing in bed where i'd still be orgasming like 12 hours later. but these contracting thingers weren't wonderful they were non chalant opening and closing feelings. is this braxton hicks?

becaroo · 11/05/2008 11:38

Sounds like it eandz....they arent painful exactly (well, not til the end of the pregnancy) but they do feel wierd....

Have booked to go to London - and dh has agreed to come and see Spamalot with me! Bless him!

Might go to a spa with my SIL at some point, though.

eandz · 11/05/2008 11:54

London is a great place! I live here

eandz · 11/05/2008 14:58

i am such a conversation killer.

splishsplosh · 11/05/2008 21:34

I've spent the 2nd day running at an outdoor paddling pool in a park, which dd loves - she's a bit horrified by all the splashing, but hopefully she'll get used to it. She hates getting her face and hair wet (hair washing is like torture for her), and she's refusing to move from the steps in our swimming lessons ever since the cruel teacher watered her head from a watering can 3 times despite her piercing screams....the water is pretty cool, so lovely on baking days like this.

Mamamufin - I'm still awaiting a bump too, and it's not my imagination. I was wearing a fairly fitted vest top today and told someone i was 20 weeks today, and even she told me I wasn't showing at all. The only rounded bit is definitely all squashable me, not firm baby. As long as it's growing ok, I'm happy not to have a great big bump though, especially if the summer carries on like this.

Still so tired. Dd is edging her waking time earlier to between 5.45 and 6.05. Even if I try and pursuade her to stay in her cot a bit longer, she keeps demanding I replace the blankets she's tossed off, the musical toy she's pulled off, etc etc. Fell asleep with her at about 7.30 this evening - she'll be having tp put me to bed at this rate, not the other way round

LouiseAnn · 11/05/2008 21:36

Where has everyone gone? Enjoying themselves I hope.

Goodnight

crabby · 11/05/2008 21:42

My bump is finally edging out of the comfort of my hips (22 weeks). So hold tight girls, its coming. Although if I am being honest it is still pretty pathetic. Went to Champneys for a beautiful bump massage with my SIL (36 weeks). The nice massage lady was v polite as she stripped me off to put massage oil on the belly said "and I'll now massage your bump... if I can find it...."

Anyway, Braxton Hicks are coming a good few times a day which is slightly freaking me out. Not painful but uterus turns into rock solid ball. I see this happens to lots of people but it is still freaking me out.

Sure it will all be ok in the end... When I'm being induced for post term then I'll look back and laugh.

splishsplosh · 11/05/2008 21:50

I never knew people got braxton hicks' this early. I never had any at all last time round - do most people get them?

Crabby did you enjoy your "bump" massage? It must be lovely to be really pampered like that

WombFor1More · 11/05/2008 21:59

I've been getting BH for last couple of weeks now. I love getting them!

I am very of all those of you with teeny bumps, I am huge. People kee asking if it's twins, oh hahaha. I have a horrible feeling I'm en route to a 10lber

Will be asking at my scan next week what they think.
