Come on over!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
carrieon · 07/05/2008 14:23

kirstygem really personal question which you don't have to answer, but if you've had sex recently then it could be cervical errosion. I agree with Mel's advice.

eandz thank you for answering my question, I'm so nosy! Sorry to hear about your health problems.

On the car debate, we bought a cmax last summer and love it. The benefit over the focus being that you can take out the parcel shelf and gain a lot of height which for us was brilliant on holiday, but the rest of the year we don't have a car that's as difficult to park as the estate is coz the cmax is shorter.

After swimming this afternoon I have to swing by dh's office and pick up our Phil&Teds, woooo HOOOOOO!!!

And on the topic of swimming, my beautiful new tankini arrived yesterday. I wish I could find a non-maternity swimsuit that I love and fits as amazingly well as this one does. And the little shorts mean you don't need to keep half so close an eye on your bikini line!

meglet · 07/05/2008 14:23

kirstygem def call the midwife, or get to the gp's this afternoon. With a bit of luck they can put your mind at rest and find the heartbeat.

Sunshinemummy · 07/05/2008 14:26

kirstygem I would try not to worry too much but would also call the midwife for some reassurance.

I know 4x4s are the spawn of the devil to some people but we have an XC90 and we love it. We can fit everything and the kitchen sink in it and it's been a godsend for going to visit our families up North. We're planning on using it to drive on holiday when Baloo is here.

carrieon · 07/05/2008 14:28

...and I loved the TENS machine if for nothing other than the distraction and giving you something to fiddle with! I didn't realise just how much good it was doing me until I took it off to get into the birth pool and the next contraction came as a real shocker.

meglet · 07/05/2008 14:35

I used the TENS machine to pace my breathing, I don't think it actually minimised the pain. I didn't like the sensation of it being turned up high though, just kept it on the lowest level.

eandz · 07/05/2008 15:21

Kristygem--
I know this is tmi...but every time i do the deed with the mr. I bleed, but when it's more than two wipes I get myself to the consultant/midwife anyone who can scan me and check my cervix and or placenta.

If you haven't been getting down and dirty I'd say calmly call someone who can put your mind to ease.

DebitheScot · 07/05/2008 15:27

kirstygem I think I'd phone midwife too just for reassurance.

I just went to the toilet too and there's a sign on the door that says "we have recently had complaints about someone picking their nose and leaving the resultant deposits on the walls and door. Would whoever is doing this please refrain from doing so" I couldn't decide if that was hilarious or just gross!

eandz · 07/05/2008 15:29

...debiethescot...
i would have barfed. infact i'm contemplating it now after reading that. what a sicko to do such a thing!

imoscarsmum · 07/05/2008 15:50

carrieon - excuse my lack of knowledge but if you're 4cm or more dilated, won't your waters have broken (thinks of Desparate Housewives recently where waters broke - "I'm in labour"!). Um, when are your waters supposed to break then?

Pidge · 07/05/2008 15:53

imoscarsmum - your waters don't necessarily break - TV has a lot to answer for on this front. Although it's rare it's perfectly possible for the baby to arrive with the amniotic sac intact, i.e. the waters never break. Usually your waters break at some point during labour (I think I'm right in saying that it's more usual for them to go DURING labour, than BEFORE).

Another myth from TV is that one minute you're pottering about normally and the next minute your doubled over with full blown contractions. OK, it can happen, but it's far more usual to have a gradual onset of labour. In fact it can go on for days, that really threw me first time round!!

DebitheScot · 07/05/2008 15:56

I was taken to delivery suite at 8cm dilated and my waters hadn't broken at that point. No idea when they did but it can't have been long afer that as I was only there 2 hours.

barnpot · 07/05/2008 16:05

thanks ladies fro answering he buggy dilema, when its your first and have no point of reference, its good to ask on here, also the link to the first time mums equip needed etc was fab and a real eye opener, think lil bob may have to stay in there until I feel brave enough to let him out, how about in a few years time?

imoscarsmum · 07/05/2008 16:44

Re buggies/prams etc, it's all very confusing. Our requirements are: fully flat carrycot for early days, pushchair that faces either front or back & car seat that will do birth to 4 years on one of these isofix base thingys. Not sure I like the look of bugaboos and they don't seem to lie flat(?), anyone got any suggestions to meet my needs??

WombFor1More · 07/05/2008 17:01

Hello ladies

Hope you're all enjoying the lovely weather. I stupidly went out at the weekend not realising how hot it was and got sunburn, ouch. I look like a lobster!

Still only 19weeks. Getting to 20 seems to be taking forever

A lot of people have been taking great pleasure in telling me just how big I look, already Yes thanks for that.

Will get them to see if bubs is looking on the bigger end of normal when I have my scan in 2wks time.

On the waters breaking front mine have never broken until the baby was actually coming out. They were broken for me just as head crowned with both ds and with dd she came out in hers. dp broke them when her head was hanging out lol! They're a lot tougher then you think! Supposed to be luckily apparently, if you're a sailor....

Re buggies. We will have to get a new one as we will be needing a double. Am looking at the P&T. Just seems a good all rounder. Has anyone had one and not liked it?? Most people seem to rave about them. Would like to know the good and the bad though before we spend that much on one.

Changing subject, does anyone here buy the M&B magazine at all? We are in it this month I am so happy. Been waiting a yr for it to be finished and I'm so happy with the final pic they chose. It's the only family photo we have! It's the Great Expectations article if anyone fancies loitering in the supermarket for a look Is a lovely keepsake to put in dd's memory box. Only now i look back at the pics of just how big I was am I'm wondering why I did this again.........!!

feelingpositive · 07/05/2008 17:07

sunshinemummy wonderful to hear that you love your XC90. We have just bought one and pick it up next week -- I am almost more excited about the new car than the prospect of a new baby - for the time being anyway.

izzybiz · 07/05/2008 17:29

I was taking Dd to her ballet lesson this afternoon and got chatting to an old dear at the bus stop.
Dd informed her we are having a new baby, and she asked when I am due, when I told her September, she said "ooh you're very big aren't you, my daughter is due in July and shes not that big!"

Why do people think just because you are pregnant they can say what they like about your body??!!
I wouldn't ask how old she is and then say"ooh, you're very wrinkly aren't you!"

Sorry guys, rant over

Hope kirstygem is ok?

mamamufin · 07/05/2008 17:42

Hi guys just a quick check in. Poor fil died last night. We have had to travel up to help with things. Its very sad but expected as he has been poorly for some time. Dh read him the note from the sonographer. We are having a boy . will catch up when I am able. Take care guys. x

mustsleep · 07/05/2008 17:51

izzybiz have you seen the toro in reallife? i had the fast fold and loved it apart from the no recline, i think you need both hands to unfold though which rules it out for me

although i have a pushchair already and do not need another

if one more person asks me when i'm due and i say sept and they say omg your massive i will kill them!! god i hope i don;t keep growing at this alarming rate though!!

went well at the bank last week and now am waiting to hear when the valuer is coming round to obv value the house, can the valuer tell you what it is worth? have a nasty feling that i won;t be valued at what we need it to be

kirstygem · 07/05/2008 18:44

Thanks for all advice ladies. Went back to toilet few more times and no blood so think it all ok. Certainly wasnt due to any sex as have only had it about twice this year!!!!
Sorry to hear your news mamamuffin

jearund · 07/05/2008 19:03

Just checking in before I have my dinner. We had the scan today, all is well and it's a boy! I guessed right! So I'll update the lists in a minute.
The scan itself was a bit of a letdown. The (trainee) sonographer had the screen postitioned so that she and the one training her could see, which meant I couldn't see the screen at all. I did ask if they could turn it a bit but they said no! So all I got was the running commentary in 'technospeak' which I didn't really understand (it wasn't aimed at me but at the trainer). They did let me have a look at the end and tried to get photos but by that time he was upside down so they are terrible photos, you can't even see what it is! I will definitely be having that 4D scan in a few weeks.
But hey, he's healthy and we can now start buying cute blue things (although I refuse to throw out any of DD's cute pink things until we are 100% certain we are not having any more!).

mamamuffin so sorry to hear your news, I had noticed you hadn't been here for a while coz I'm still thinking about that lunch date we've got in the pipeline! Congrats on the boy though

Well the Phil and Teds is here...flat packed in a box and dh is off to football training now so I'll have to be a little patient unless I fancy my chances of building it myself (ROFL). At least there's good tv on tonight - I'm a fan of 'child of our time'.

jearund · 07/05/2008 19:38

Carrieon is that the first "child of our time" for a while or have I missed one? I really like it too.
Did something very stupid earlier. I brought through my plate of chilli potato wedges and then proceeded to balance it on the arm of the sofa while I finished my Mumsnet post. Of course it slid off and went all over my pretty white maternity blouse (why didn't I get changed after work?) and my pyjama bottoms (which I'd put on as DD had got sticky hands on my work trousers!). It's now soaking in Stain Devil but I don't think it's going to come out......
Still tasted nice though!!!

carrieon · 07/05/2008 19:47

I don't know if its the first one or not, but i've now got it set on series record so i don't miss any more!
