eandz · 07/05/2008 09:08

sorry barnpot, i haven't even started looking.

izzybiz · 07/05/2008 09:25

barnpot I had an older Pliko (just the pushchair) for Dd, and it was a good pushchair. SIL had the combi pliko for her Dd from birth, she always looked very comfy in the prammette. She kept it untill she needed a Phil & Teds

kirstygem · 07/05/2008 09:29

I think I am in the minority wanting an epidural. Had one with DD and it was really good for me, made it all bearable. Hoping for one this time but people keep telling me the 2nd one probably be too quick and not have time for one which is scaring me loads

DebitheScot · 07/05/2008 09:30

digitalgirl if you do decide to go for something a bit bigger than a normal Focus I'd reccommend a small people carrier rather than an estate (something like the focus Cmax/Smax (can't remember what its called) or Picasso or Senic). They have about the same size boots in terms of total volume but the boots in people carriers seem to be a much better shape. You get a reasonable amount of depth and a lot of height whereas with an estate you get a very deep boot but not much height if you see what I mean. You said you were going for the McLAren xt didn't you? That obviously folds up small so buggy space isn't so much of an issue for you. It would be worth knowing the length of the buggy when folded as if you can get a boot wide enough for it to lie straight across that would be useful too.

mustsleep · 07/05/2008 09:30

barnpot i have already bought 3 different pushchairs for lo !! really have a pram problem

the pliko is good is it the pramette one? it would be worth the cash as you could use as your first and second pram with it being light. i have just bought the m and p luna and carrycot.

the only thinkg i will say is you should try not order it directly from m and p as there aftersales service is crap, we bought an m and p moove for dd when she was 18 months loved it but after two weeks the catch that held it shut broke so took it back and was told that they would not exchange it but would send it off for repair (this took two weeks) and they gave us a ziko for loan (which had an awful floating harness and dd looked like she was falling out of it most of the time. went back to collect after it was fixed got it home collapsed it and it would not stand up (another part had been broken) took it back again got told that it would have to be sent away for repair again, i asked for my money back or an exchange as they ha had the thing for longer than me now and i did not like the ziko anyway had to actually stand in store complaining loudly about the oushchair not being fit for purpose untili got my cash back

so yeah i would buy through a third party

LittleConnie · 07/05/2008 09:32

carrieon i think the reason they don't let you into a birthing pool until you're 4cm is that in the earlier stages the water can slow down labour and make things take a lot longer than they would otherwise.

I would love to give some expert a list of my pushchair requirements and send them off to find me the perfect one. Am so daunted by the huge and baffling choice out there...

I have a Focus (56 plate, I think the boots are slightly larger in the 56 and on but maybe only in this model) and both a Bug Cameleon and Maclaren XT fit comfortably in the boot (though not at the same time!). But I may have to go bigger now #2 is coming.
I will not be parted from my Bug - we love it. But the Mac lives in the boot as it is just so easy to fold. But I absolutely love rear-facing pushchairs - my daughter is so talkative and in the Maclaren I can't hear what she is saying; it breaks my heart! So we still use the Bugaboo all the time.
I am not sure whether to buy a double or try to use the buggy board with the Bug. I have friends who have succeeded at both options, although I walk a lot.

eandz · 07/05/2008 09:51

i really like the bugaboo bee and chameleon... one set of inlaws have the chameleon and another set of inlaws have the bee... problem is, the inlaws that have the bee i find over pretentious and annoying...(they always try to steal our limelight...our engagement was planned for over a year and they got engaged the week before...our wedding was scheduled for december and then they decided to get married in december so we would have to change the date)... SOO annoying! and now all they do is talk about how angelically beautiful their new son is...as if mine might not be... i am such an insecure pregnant person!

i think i'm gonna go with the bee.

theowlwhowasafraidofthedark · 07/05/2008 10:35

Hi there all, glad to hear things are progressing well for everyone.

Had our scan today - all looks good and we are having a little girl. I was sure it was a boy so feeling a bit surprised but happy!

A quick question for those of you who have already used a bugaboo - will it be able to go down the middle of a bus or is it too wide? Am having a bit of a dilemma buggywise!

Sunshinemummy & slinkiemalinki I have booked for nct classes in wandsworth & wimbledon, but am a first timer so possibly different classes.

mustsleep · 07/05/2008 10:57

i think that it will as it's not that wide, but if there is not a lot of room on the bus the driver can make you collapse it!! nightmare imo

you's think that bugaboo would have done the bee with the bug wheels as well as the only prob i had with the bug was the two piece fold, only because there are never any kneeling buses near us!!

eandz · 07/05/2008 11:49

are there no pregnant women in nw london?!

LittleConnie · 07/05/2008 12:05

eandz i'm in nw london but moving to w london in a couple of weeks...

Hi all - slinkie really looking forward to us hopefully being part of the same NCT group! I'm planning to leave work early August (need to work out when) so I'm hoping that the course will be sometime then to fit in with my plans.

Sunshinemummy · 07/05/2008 12:09

TOWWAOTD hopefully we'll still get to meet up!

eandz · 07/05/2008 12:10

Little Conne

it's ok. i'll get through it.

LittleConnie · 07/05/2008 12:16

eandz are you planning NCT classes? I've got mine booked for end of August in Ealing. btw i've been going to a brilliant pregnancy yoga class in NW6 if you're interested...

OP posts:
eandz · 07/05/2008 12:39

i sent in the info for the nct classes but never heard back.

do you have info about the pregnancy yoga classes?

LittleConnie · 07/05/2008 12:52

oh yeah sorry i forgot you were having problems getting hold of them....
the yoga's run in Queen's Park by a woman called Julie Krausz who's got 17 years experience and is a mine of information on pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. I go on Wednesday evenings (7.15-9.15ish) but I think she also does Thursday mornings. You can call her on 02084592903. The class is lovely (although a little hippified in places when she makes us do mooing noises!)I've already picked up some great tips on waterbirth, breastfeeding and relieving some nasty pregnancy symptoms...

Help! I just got changed for my PE lesson I have next period and I can't breathe! I haven't taught PE for a few weeks so hadn't had my kit on for a while. I only brought 1 pair of shorts in and they are way too small! And I can't pull them down to be below the bump because my tshirt is also a bit small and isn't long enought to cover it all! Its not a pleasant sight!!
I have to go shopping before next week.

lollipopmother · 07/05/2008 13:20

I have gone for the 8 in 1 travel system from Mamas and Papas, I saved up all the money and then my mother in law very kindly bought it for me, so I now have a load of cash that can be spent on other baby things, I've gone mad on the Mamas and Papas Zeddy and Parsnip range!

I asked my partner what he thought of me having a water birth and he just laughed his head off saying that I'm not a hippy and really should stop being swayed by silly mumsnet threads! I had to laugh, I suppose that he's right, it's not really 'me' I have to admit. He says he much prefers the sounds of the TENS machine and we've both realised we're more comfortable with that idea than a water birth, so I'm going to go with the TENS and hope to God it works, otherwise I'm likely to ram the controller up his nostril!

izzybiz · 07/05/2008 13:30

Hi guys, Just been shopping for Dds birthday party on Sunday, managed to spend £40 on the party bags and they still aren't finished!

Will have to try and keep that quiet from Dh!

I'm looking to get the Micralite toro for baby.
I had the fastfold for Dd and its a great pushcahir, they have redesigned the seat unit for the toro, its more like the bugaboo seat.
They push onehanded and can fold with one hand too. Also half the price of a bugaboo, and less bulky!

Have my scan tommorrow, so excited, we are going to ask the sex, i couldn't possibly wait another 4 months to know!
On Fiday morning I will be going into Next to buy a 3 pack of sleepsuits in whatever colour I will be needing

Sunshinemummy · 07/05/2008 13:40

lollipopmother I hired my TENS from Mothercare last time. Arrived in plenty of time but I must admit it didn't work for me for very long.

We had a funny moment during my labour when I decided the TENS was no longer working and we decided to take it off. Because I could no longer feel the TENS through my contractions I forgot to turn it off. When DP tried to get the pads off my back the TENS kicked in and gave him a shock, he then dropped the pads, which promptly stuck to my bum. I could definitely feel it then! I was hopping round the room, going "get it off, get it off". Was a bit of light relief in a long long labour!

DebitheScot · 07/05/2008 13:43

Am I the only person not planning on buying another buggy?

I hated the tens machine but might have done better with it if I'd been able to get my head round it before I was in labour. It just didn't seem to work at all for me. So make sure you figure out how it works beforehand.

kirstygem · 07/05/2008 13:47

Just been to the toilet at work and there was fresh red blood when I wiped, totally freaking out and not sure whether to ring midwife or wait and see if anything more next time I go????

MelT76 · 07/05/2008 13:56

kirstygem, I had that on Friday. Left it half an hour and went again. Nothing there, and nothing since. Luckily it was only 2 hrs before my scan so got my reasurance from that. If not, I would definately have called my midwife. HTH
