Not sure if anyone else has started a new thread as our other one ran out of room, but here we go...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mayx3 · 19/05/2008 12:37

Hello all - glad there's a few of us still left. Still twinging away here, but walk hasn't helped...

Love the due date guessing - my friends and families all had guesses, but latest was 16th May so no-one wins. Although my dad says he's now written it into the diary for tomorrow (and he claims this will happen naturally rather than due to induction so let's hope he's right!). Apparently it's a full moon tomorrow which will drag babies out - like a high tide effect.

DH has been reading up on induction (he's a Dr so feels he should know this stuff) - apparently studies have shown no significant effect of either sex or castor oil - but castor oil made all the women feel sick! (Doesn't mention the sex), but in the sex study nipple stimulation was excluded (not sure how) - brings all sorts of images to mind...

No one seems to have done a study of star jumps....

pregnabrain · 19/05/2008 13:29

Am crossing my legs at the thought of star jumps. My poor old bladder would never cope...

I had my first "so, where's the baby then?" question from my mum this morning. I can see that i'm going to get progressively less polite in my answers if i get many more enquiries.

If only there were a real baby oracle...

I'm definitely up for some howling at the full moon tomorrow if it'll get things going!

podglet - thank you for your good wishes. Hope all is well with you. I read your thread but didn't post as I didn't know what to write . You have my absolute sympathy and respect in this impossibly difficult situation.

AussieSim · 19/05/2008 13:43

I am still lurking around 39+2 - this is as far as I made it with DS2 and I only made it to 35 weeks with DS1, so am feeling a bit frustrated. Ob says DD is 4kg (9lb) or so. Expect him to raise the prospect of induction with me tomorrow. Not interested. I will try to stick to natural ways of bringing on - even though they have not been successful so far.

Congrats to all the new mummies and best wishes to the rest of us still hanging in there.

Any thoughts on pros and cons of Taurus vs Germini?

mayx3 · 19/05/2008 13:53

I'm convinced my baby wants to be a gemini as her dad is and so's her aunt! I can never remember when it changes though - 23rd?? Surely it won't be that much longer...

My mum is more concerned about that old rhyme about days of the week and keeps telling me to try not to have it on Weds (weds child is full of woe) - like there's anything I can do! Not quite sure why she's so concerned - I was born on a Monday and am not notably fair of face ...

KangaAndRoo · 19/05/2008 14:01

ahhh but they have changed the poem may lol as they said it wasnt fair to a child to be told youre full of woe LOLOLOL

pmsl @ the fact that tomorrows MN could be full of full moon announcements hahaha

sweetbean · 19/05/2008 14:08

Aussiesim I'm a Gemini so will go for that!! but both my sister and dad are Taurus.

Pregnabrain I will most certainly join you in the "June's a lovely month for a baby" bunch along with Fleurie76

mayx3 · 19/05/2008 14:16

What are Weds children now? Wednesday child has lots of dough?! Would be good....

sweetbean · 19/05/2008 14:19

Strength and Kindness

Key words for Gemini.

Communication and persuasion
Change and variety
Intelligence and Wit
Curiosity and movement
Learning and education
Youth and freedom
Adaptability and intuition

So there you go i love all this start sign stuff and am quite into it all !!

sweetbean · 19/05/2008 14:25

Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe,
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay

I can only find this so far but surly if they want to change wednesday then what about Sunday are we still using the word gay to mean happy these days ???

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/05/2008 14:46

Both my girls are full of grace (!) but DS1 has far to go.

I have finished all my important jobs bar getting large sack of dog food - which we're doing after school pick-up now. Phew!

I have backache again but I'm confident it's because I've spent most of the day mucking out animals, moving the ponies to different fields, scrubbing their troughs and generally not behaving like someone who is 39 weeks today.

It's good to keep yourself occupied.

KangaAndRoo · 19/05/2008 16:13

Ohhh duchess ...you've just taken me back to the days I loved ..... being with horses...I so miss it!

well still dull back ache here...and loads of pressure in my bum when i get a tightening.

still not getting hopes up but sat like a numpty on my ball bouncing away!!!

BigBadMouse · 19/05/2008 17:26

Sweetbean - We have the same birthday! I'm wondering now if I might be spending mine in labour.

I'm 40+1, today and saw the MW this morning. Head not engaged at all baby OP, mummy fed-up (although no idea why as I don't feel ready physically or mentally x1000.

I have a scan on Thursday to see what is happening but MW I saw today dealt with my last two pregnancies and said she thinks my misaligned pelvis is the cause of my long painful labours and that nuggets bigger head (than DDs) is causing issues too. Will see what the consultant says on Thursday.

All that said, I thought I Was going to have the baby in the garden earlier this afternoon. My sodding lovely cat caught one of the many stupid mice that live in the banks around our garden (it actually walked under her nose ) and I tried to chase her to rescue it. I am sooooo slow but managed to do a sort of 'hunchback of notredame' run after her. At one point she actually stopped and put down the mouse as if to say 'well make some effort woman!'. Anyway, mouse escaped and I now have some very nasty pain in my bits -ouch - and I walk like I have had an 'accident' in my underwear .

For all those who are considering starjumps they didn't work for me with the girls - neither did repeatedly jumping off our five bar gate . Worth a try though - just don't let you MW catch you at it.

Coolmama thanks for the response. I'm glad I actually rememebered someone's situation for more than a week . Our scans are inconclusive - just wondered what they did once the baby was born.

duchess Can I please come and help with your horses and chickens etc and cuddle your dog? I'm doing a nappy consultation tomorrow morning and tbh they only talked me into it (without realising) when they mentioned they have a bearded collie X lurcher

sweetbean · 19/05/2008 17:48

BigBadMouse Im really hoping that of all the days the baba can chose from i don't go into labour on my birthday, i mean if you can't have a large glass of champers on your birthday then when can you FGS!!!!!

sweetbean · 19/05/2008 17:50

also meant to add sorry about your baba's positioning im sending you loads of engaging vibes followed by and eviction notice !!! xxx

mayx3 · 19/05/2008 17:55

sweetbean - champers is meant to help in labour apparently - something to do with the bubbles.

Fleurie76 · 19/05/2008 18:01

BBM pmsl at 'hunchback of notredame' run - I know exactly what you mean. Sorry you're feeling so down today about baby not coming out, hopefully the consultant might have some better news for you on Thursday. By the way if you are in the southeast at all, feel free to come round and cuddle my dog (who is kind of a bearded collie, lurcher x as well!)

Talking of birthdays I am serious danger of runing my 'little' brother's 30th celebrations at the end of the month by going into labour and everyone focussing on that and not him. I have apologised in advance!

Duchess not only can you still paint toenails (I think it was you) you're mucking out horses - respect! I pushed a hoover lazily around the house today and expect a medal when DH gets home

Niknak21 · 19/05/2008 19:08

Well, like a few of you (i'm rubbish at remembering who writes what), I'm now 3 days over. MW examined me on Thursday and my cervix were posterior and closed... So it can stay where it is until after the wedding on Sunday. Will try not to upstage my bro and have it there.

My Mum was convinced I would follow her and have my 2nd 3 days late. She sounded very disappointed this eve when I spoke to her.

Hope something happens soon for those who want it!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/05/2008 19:31

arf @ bigbadmouse saving small terrified mouse (or rather, her cat 'letting' her). Do come and help with the horses, nevermind labour, I thought I was going to have coronary when I went to move the overfilled as usual wheelbarrow this morning so the more the merrier!

And don't worry about the head not being engaged, it may not be big head v dodgy pelvis - I've been told (and it was true of my DD2) that 3rd babies onwards often don't bother engaging until labour is imminent. Not like my DD1 who was engaged for about 2 months before due date and everyone assumed I was still riding. [staggers off John Wayne-style]

Goodness, we've had a whole day without a birth announcement.

pregnabrain · 19/05/2008 20:25

Can't think of any suspicious silences from regular posters here...so maybe just no babies today.

All waiting for the full moon, obv.

I'm feeling really uncomfortable right down low in my pelvis and have quite a lot of tightenings today. Also pacing around the house like a caged bear - really restless. Am failing to get excited, however, as last time i felt like this it was because I had eaten baked beans and was full of (TMI) wind .

norks - you're putting the rest of us to shame with your physical activity. Please sit down immediately and eat a packet of jaffa cakes.

bbm - sorry to hear about your worries over the baby's position and the shape of your pelvis. What do you think they will recommend? There are things you can do to try to turn the baby round - search back through this thread for lots of links. hope it's not getting you down too much.

have good evenings y'all

BigBadMouse · 19/05/2008 20:50

Thanks you for all your kind words and giggles .

I'm tempting fate tonight by not having enough diesel in my car to get to the hospital tonight - doubt it will work, in fact I hope not, I didn;t do it on purpose but round these parts everything is shut by 8pm. We get lots of very confused and hungry looking emmetts tourists walking around the local town wondering why all the fish and chip shops are shut at 8pm .

sweetbean I'm a bit of a hypocrit when it comes to the birthday thing really as DD2 was only born a few hours into the day after DD1s birthday (must make note to have sex more than once a year . I kept saying to DH 'Oh DD1 won't mind sharing her b'day' but now it comes to sharing mine.......

Fleurie76 - thank you for dog cuddling invite. I'm in the SW but often desparate for doggy cuddles so one day I might just turn up on the doorstep! I keep acosting strangers dogs in the street .

Duchessofnorks - I got told off last week at the garden centre for loading my car with three cags of compost without help. No-one seemed to understand my argument that the bags of compost are far easier to manouvre than a kicking, screaming DD2 . Pleased to hear about your 'head engaging' stories - DDs engaged at 32 and 34 weeks but this little one is very different in every other way so why not with his head engaging too.

pregnabrain - No idea what, if anything they'll do. I think all they want is for me to go in ASAP once things start up so they can monitor things. I've gone through 2 labours with the same problem so I'm probably just being a silly sod and worrying unneccessarily .

Looks like it has been a labour-free day today then

KangaAndRoo · 20/05/2008 10:15

Well....my pains stopped over night how dare they!!!! HAd one as I got up this morning and just loads of tightenings....had a different show today LOL it wasnt clear.....whoop whoop!!!!

sending positive labour vibes today!!!!!!!

Pina....could of been hind waters...have had to check temp every 4 hours but it hasnt gone up. star jumps were to dislodge this little bugger lol oh well at least i'll have a baby at the weekend lol

otter1980 · 20/05/2008 13:03

pina - yes I too though I'd have a baby - as did 2 of my consultants and the midwife and everyone...

baby is totally not coming out. Went to hospital yesterday as was worried about the sick/dizzy feeling - was hooked up to monitor all checked out - baby fine, im fine shes comfy, fully engaged still etc. so that took an hour then spend 3 hours waiting for dr to come and say I could go (midswife wasnt happy to do it) so sat there on my own in room. got sick of it, threw toys out of cot and demanded that my notes be returned to me as I wanted to go home. Different midwife came in (so not the one who has left me for 3 hours) was nice to me (resulting in me crying) gave me a sweep and let me go home. according to her though baby looked very happy.

TMI ALERT however she did get a bloody show from me (apparently the plug can reform?) and have been leaking slighly bloody since then - so maybe? am being induced tomorrow anyway (and nice midwife said she will try get me - hurray!)
