Not sure if anyone else has started a new thread as our other one ran out of room, but here we go...

OP posts:

Azaduhi · 10/05/2008 17:29

congrats asics ..glad you had you homebirth pics are sooo sweet

Fleurie76 · 10/05/2008 20:17

Congrats Asicsgirl and Blobsmummy!
They are coming thick and fast at the moment - Baiyu you next?

Went to IKEA today (need 'mad' emoticon) and picked up a good chair for nursing in, cleared space in our room for Moses basket and put up chest of drawers which is now filled with tiny little clothes.
Think I might nearly be ready....

Azaduhi · 10/05/2008 20:36

think i might be next..contractions have started..haven't timed them, but definetly stronger then the past few days and they come in closer intervals....
therefore preparing for it, but it's still manageable at the moment, trying to stay at home till its unbearable.

keep you posted..if i turn quiet you'll know i am off to hospital.

mumblesmummy · 10/05/2008 20:43

I've been having weird contractions on and off for AGES now, and just went to the loo and had ANOTHER massive show, after the one the consultant made me have the other day!! I duno how that's possible but there was no getting away from the fact it was a show. Bloody huge plug with blood. DP happened to walk in the bathroom at that very second and bawlked lol. Poor sod. So what now? Wonder if I'm any more than 2cms now?

Kanga what's happening with you? Any further on? Did you check the childbirth threads? There's someone else who went for a sweep on Thurs and was 2cms too!! Summat in the air?

Huge congrats to Asicsgirl. I was secretly hoping to race you a lil bit lol, yes it has got that sad, but so glad you've got your gorgeous little one. Lovely name too.

azadhui- can see why the 4 months comment annoys you but I get 'woah don't give birth here!' and 'Goodness me that's a big bump!' and things like that. It's so pissin lovely haha. Also, EVERYONE is ringing every two mins to ask if I've had babba. I'd be annoyed if no one rang but I'm getting fed up of citing how many cramps I've had in the last hour

Had a right wobble yesterday, and then again for an hour today, then I fell asleep, which I never do in day time! Strange.

Hope baby comes on his due date tomorrow, that would be so lovely. I'm so impatient until I have a contraction and then I'm like 'arrghh shit, sgtay in, I'm not mentally prepared yet'

mumblesmummy · 10/05/2008 20:44

Cross posted with you then, good luck Azaduhi. Soooooooo exciting eeek.

KangaAndRoo · 10/05/2008 21:51

Ooooh Adazuhi ...said you would be soon!!!! so it was the start of something! GOOD LUCK!!!

And Mumblesmummy ...2 plugs wowser!!! wish I had one big one...I would be happy with a bit more than im getting and even a bit of colour in mine plz LOL Its just bits im getting throughout the day. So hope your contractions become a bit more reg for you.

Doin the sex thing that some of you speak of (LMAO) EPO up the fanjo and orally...clary sage in the bath, rasp leaf tabs, Walkers sens sweet thai chilli crisps! this bub obviously dont wanna budge!

The mention of 'annoying things ppl say' ...mine at the moment is people telling me the baby isnt cooked yet and will come when its ready!... no sh*t sherlock!!!! It aint rocket science but its nice to think 'something' might be happening...to then be brought back down with a bump!!

sorry for the rant can tell im at the end of pregnancy LOL

Good luck Mitchell hun! will be looking out for your BA!! x

mumblesmummy · 10/05/2008 21:59

Oh my word. A THIRD huge plug with more blood.. is this normal??? I'm in a right flap now. There was me expecting to be all lovely and calm when it came to labour and I'm FREAKING OUT. I'm especially worried about pushing... I need more details. Anyone who's having a baby before, please go through everything in detail. I know it's not nice, and it's probably common sense, but I just need more clarification as I cannot see how baby is gonna get from A to B!

mumblesmummy · 10/05/2008 22:04

sorry, had a baby before, not 'having a baby before'.

Kanga- Bet ya it's not long til yours is here. Is your baby pushing down? Mine keeps digging his feet in my ribs and pushing down hard which hurts ma cervix and bottom of my tummy a lot!! just wish the contractions would come now. What is this clary sage?

I heard (from a midwife) that raspberry leaf tea doesn't make you go into labour, it just gives you painful contractions. I carried on drinking it though until the other day because I ran out. I reckon those Caulophyllum tablets have worked wonders though!

Is NO ONE else freaking out? Has anyone suddenly panicked or realised they did not think this part through at conception? or am I just having another hormonal wobble for no reason? I can never tell until afterwards these days.

Mitchell- lots of luck.

xxx

mumblesmummy · 10/05/2008 22:06

Sorry if I'm starting to panic everyone else. I'm sure all will be fine. It's only been done for millions of years. Why they havn't thought of a more efficient way by now is beyond me though.

KangaAndRoo · 10/05/2008 22:24

Mumblesmummy...pmsl @ your flapping.....he's gotta come out some way lol.
I'm hoping ppl will agree with me but once you are in the throws of 'right youre ready to push' you are that busy doing/concentrating on pushing that you dont get time to 'think' and I didnt find it anywhere near as painful as the contractions that get you to the magic number 10.

Rasp leaf....never heard they make your contractions more painful....they tone your uterus...know they dont 'bring on' labour as such but everything helps.

clary sage is an essential oil that has 'uterine' properties (hoping someone can explain better) supposedly brings on contractions....again, the same as rasp leaf...who can tell if they work or not???
Theres no evidence that rasp leaf actually does anything..the same as everything else really...suppose its just when bubs is ready.

so stop getting in a flap...put your feet up...enjoy the minutes/hours/days before Junior comes along....as you wont be able to put him back up there LOL

Yes to the pushing on cervix too!! been having fanjo twangs for a while but theyre a bit intense now.

I will be watching out for you hun xxxxx

pregnabrain · 10/05/2008 22:42

Hello

Kat13 and Monkeysmama - I've added you to the Due In May list...

Azaduhi - sending you happy birthing vibes. I'm so jealous! I can't wait...

Mind you, I had a couple of whopping contractions last night, thought everything was kicking off and immediately went into blind panic mode! I need this baby not to come until Monday, when my midwife is back on duty

mm - don't panic. whatever happens, you will be fine. Childbirth is the MOST extraordinary experience you'll ever go through and it's absolutely amazing. Just let yourself surrender to it, don't try to analyse it too much and trust in your body's ability to do what it needs to. Your best bet is to switch your brain off, if that makes sense.

On the pushing thing, I had an epidural the first time so I couldn't feel to push. However, it was still really great to be ACTIVE, if you see what I mean. For the whole first stage, you're just carried along on the contractions but you're not actually doing anything. Just getting through it. But then suddenly you are pushing, and you feel so much more in control.

Other people I know who didn't have epis have said things like "It's like being sick downwards" ie. you don't control the pushing - you can't not push, if you see what i mean. And most have said that the pain is much less at that point and that it's actually really enjoyable. One said it feels like when you do a huge poo (sorry TMI) and can't stop it coming out of you. But on a bigger scale I guess .

Hope this helps - I'm nervous about the second stage too, as that's what might do more damage to my poor old pelvic floor but i think, once you're in it, your'e just doing it and have to go with the moment.

Sorry if that's an essay!

pregnabrain · 10/05/2008 22:45

ps i was wondering about sweetbean too.

hope all's well with you, if you read this.

xx

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/05/2008 23:45

mm - Think of the wettest, weediest women you know with children and content yourself with the fact they have done it! During early contractions I've walked dogs, put DCs to bed, finished dinner, all sorts of things, so that bit is quite manageable. Then you get the painful part. The general consensus is that if you are lying on your back it is much worse - instead walk about or stand and rock your hips and breathe through it. After awhile when the contractions are coming thick & fast, you will feel the need to push - particularly if you suddenly go hot or cold or both, get the runs or you're sick (vomiting is good because the stomach muscles help push the baby down). This means you have successfully reached transition! You WILL want to push and you will know how to and in an odd way, it will feel good! And yes it does feel as if you are pooing your baby out. If you tear, you will not notice at the time, though it will be sore afterwards. Ditto piles. It is hard, physical work (like pushing yourself to run too far) but the pay-off is huge. I hope you have a great birth.

monkeysmama · 11/05/2008 00:17

Mumbles-you're not alone being a bit apprehensive. I have had a lovely day but been in tears again feeling daunted by what's about to happen. I am getting scared now-the pain down there is getting really heavy and I just feel so helpless. All this stuff I thought was definite-that my waters would break etc now seems so undependable.
I would do ANYTHING to sleep properly. I am so tired and wake up every night for hours. Time is flying and I haven't had enough sleep to get the energy to push yet!

Well done to Acisgirl and good luck to everyone else.

MM

otter1980 · 11/05/2008 06:46

blobsmummy and asics - congratulations

welcome kat!

good luck Mitchell!! how exciting!!

any news from Adazuhi? hope everything is going ok

mumblesM - have you rung the hospital/midwife? I know that ours are very patient whenever i ring in a flap. Cant tell you anything bout birth though still waiting to get there myself...

right im going to lurk aroung MN for a bit and try and feel less and frustrated about this baby coming out. according to my workings out baby is due tomorrow... i know that they come when they're cooked and all that but I want mine now... also to add to the "have you not had that baby" rant - why do people who have no children/men feel they can give you childbirth advice? and whats with people you havent seen for all pregnancy suddenly trying to be your best mate? grrrrrrrr

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/05/2008 10:07

monkeys - sympathy for the lack of sleep. The last few weeks are awful but you're so nearly there and you will have the required energy for labour (most of us flag after a long period of contractions but either the midwives/DH will feed you or entering the transition stage will wake you up)!!!

And as soon as the baby is out, your bladder will not need emptying every five minutes. And there will be no solid immovable lump so you can sleep face down if you want and roll over really quickly and not have to plan in advance how you're going to sit or get up!! It's bliss. And sitting up in bed in the dark feeding your new baby is quite nice for the first week or so. .

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/05/2008 10:10

And by the way, if I'm the last one to give birth will somebody please hang around on this 'old thread' to listen to me grumbling and not all go skipping off with your babies to the all new & shiny May post-natal thread?

Thank you!
