hello.

Any space for a little one?
brand new to all this and a little nervous. had a MC in Feb (very early) and was on holiday last week but DH would not allow me to pee on a stick (seems to have become all superstitious as MC was whilst on holiday).
Did test on monday as soon as off the plane and since then have been dying to tell my chums.

Feel really nauseated and started vomiting yesterday- apparently hot showers can do that!

Congrats everyone else.

LenniEd · 30/05/2008 11:08

Welcome buckles, congratulations. Hope things go well for you this time, sympathise on the vomiting. Where did you go? Anywhere nice?

I've come to have a moan. Really feeling sick today and spent last night chucking - lovely evening. It's getting worse - since when was that allowed??! Oh well, DD snuggled up playing with shoes and handbags... thats my girl... so at least she's cheering me up. Wish she could run to the loo a bit faster though things getting a bit close for comfort nothing worse than having to clear up your own vom... sorry, far tmi...

Also agree with LG&T moosemama.

LG&T, you've fallen off the end of the list when it was cut and pasted one time. Was going to add you back on but it was far too complicated for me since I couldn't cut and paste the list and your info at the same time. Small brain, hormones eaten it.

buckles · 30/05/2008 11:16

thank you LenniEd we went to the states to visit our friends and kids- had a great time.

Sorry that you are feeling so rubbish, bit nervous about the vomiting thing as my mum had vomiting all the way through both her pregnancies. She was delighted to have given birth as it was the first time in nearly 9 months that she had not wanted to throw up!

Not convinced by ginger biscuit to be honest...

elkiedee · 30/05/2008 11:21

Please don't anyone feel ignored.

People have different amounts of time available to post, and of course, some of us who have been on mumsnet for longer are active in other bits of this community, eg previous postnatal groups.

First time round I joined mn when some people had already been talking for a few weeks and looked at the antenatal group briefly, but then didn't post from work at all and was totally exhausted for months. I hardly participated until I was on maternity leave and it took me until 2 or 3 months after the baby was born, some problems and a ruck or two, then making up, to really feel settled.

Moosemama, I'm actually convinced I intended to respond to something you posted but can't remember what or why, will try to look into it when I've more time to play.

Welcome buckles.

Sympathy to those feeling sick.

HeathersMummy · 30/05/2008 11:22

Morning all, congrats buckles.
Feeling a bit better this morning, sickness not so bad. However my 3yo DD was up all night with sickness bug - aargh! Not nice when feeling ropey myself, never mind.
Have finally bitten the bullet and ordered myself a couple of pairs of maternity jeans - my normal jeans are ok in the daytime, but in the evening, oh my gosh they're tight .
Can't believe it, I'm only 9 weeks today - with DD I was almost 20 weeks before I was into maternity clothes. The joys!
Please don't feel ignored sparkle and moos, I post on here and don't really expect replies - it's just nice to know that others are following "your story" and probably feeling the same as you.
Take care all .

witchandchips · 30/05/2008 11:59

some general questions to include everyone
for second (or more) timers. What are the differences in the symptons this early? For me (and others on the thread) it seems
a) get bigger earlier
b) more tired
c) more sick
any others

for first timers, are there any questions you would care to ask of us old hands

buckles · 30/05/2008 12:06

Hello witchandchips, nice to meet you.
I would like to know when most people needed to wear maternity clothes (only 6 weeks so ages off yet but looking for an excuse to shop as always!)

Also how much weight did you put on and at what stages?
Ta
x

elkiedee · 30/05/2008 12:18

My advice is get what you need when you need it on maternity clothes. I needed bras quickly but I found non maternity clothes more useful than maternity ones until right at the end and then I couldn't bear anything with a waistband.

I put on about 4 lbs between 12 and 41 weeks, mostly at the very end, but that was because I was sick up until the end and had real problems eacting much. Sadly, the net loss in weight after birth hasn't lasted.

witchandchips (love the name, love that book), I'm not sure for me. Can't tell why I'm feeling tired with a 1 year old or slob out the way I did first time round, and I'm not sure re (a) or (c).

witchandchips · 30/05/2008 12:33

first time round went up 3 bra cup sizes before 8 weeks and lost my waist around 12 weeks so need new clothes pretty much towards the beginning. Went into proper maternity clothes around 20 weeks (but tbh did not need them untile about 24 weeks)

this time round lost my (bigger) waist around 5 weeks+ boobs have inflated as before, am in dps jarmies at the mo because none of my clothes fit!

largeginandtonic · 30/05/2008 12:38

Yes large bobos quickly, yay! (am small normally) and am usually in maternity clothes by 12 weeks. Usually because i cant stand the band around the tiny bump.

I lose weight to start with then pack it on with vigour I have been known to stack on a good 4 stone... i personally blame the donuts for jumping down my throat

Chocsolot · 30/05/2008 13:00

Hi Buckles, welcome and congrats.

Can I ask a random question of you more experienced pregnant ladies please?

Does the first pregnancy scan hurt? Because don't they stick a probe or somehtign up you? It all sounds a bit scary!

Thank you

tinkhasabunintheoven · 30/05/2008 13:02

i am 7weeks tom have been in maternity from 6 weeks this time, have massive tummy 1st time around didnt need maternity till much later. boobs are bigger earier 2

Chocsolot · 30/05/2008 13:04

I have gone up a dress size on my bottoms already (7 weeks this weekend) but I think that is becasue I am bloating a bit more than anythign else, my boobs have got bigger too.....

witchandchips 3 sizes is amazing though! my hubby will be over the moon if they get that big! He is usually only gets a small B!

witchandchips · 30/05/2008 13:08

No the only thing thats at all painfull about the first scan is not being able to wee. You have to have a full bladder and if they are over-running in the clinic you will have a long wait with crossed legs on your hands. I remember the first time my bladder was so full i actually had to go to the loo and let some out- Hmm not sure my pelvic floor is good enough to do that anymore

elkiedee · 30/05/2008 13:11

chocs - the ultrasound scans don't need to be internal - they put it against the outside of your body. I didn't have an internal exam until 40 + 6 first time round.

Chocsolot · 30/05/2008 13:16

I think its an internal one... I think my little bean is too small to see via the ultra sound one at the moment. They just want to check where it is attached because of all my cramps

DH has doen his research and he reckons they will need to stick something up me

LenniEd · 30/05/2008 13:25

Second time round boobs bigger earlier - although they never went down after 1st pg, damn and blast. Was a C cup before 1st pg, a DD after and hopefully no bigger after this one.

Am also bloated today, but no weight gain yet - last time round I gained about 7 lbs in the first 15ish weeks and then about a stone more between 15 weeks and mat leave at 36 weeks. And then another stone between 36 and 40 weeks and 7lbs blowing up like the elephant woman during the last 3 days and labour. Total gain 3 stone - only lost 9lbs during the birth, but another couple of pounds came off when all the fluid went out of my legs.

Last time was in mat bottoms at 12 weeks cos of the tummy pressure thing. Tops by about 20-24 weeks. I would also only buy when you need it, otherwise you'll end up with a cupboard full of stuff you won't wear.

On the ultrasounds/internals - I also didn't have an internal exam until my waters broke at 39+6. DD delivered at 40+2 and think I had about 5 or 6 in total. Internal scans are only done if you need an early scan (viability scans) before 12 weeks, or if they are unable to get a good external picture at 12 weeks.

scared1976 · 30/05/2008 13:33

hello! i had an internal scan this week and it certainly didnt hurt, but also i had to have an empty bladder! it was a private scan so maybe is different with NHS but the guy laughed at me because Id been sat in the waiting room abso bursting!

regarding weight gain. this is my first, im 8 weeks tomorrow and i am (i think at least) quite obviously preggo. my belly is stuck right out. so much so that i got lunch all over it today and didnt notice. classy.

i have a question - i sit on the middle of a trading floor - any hints on how to have a nap without anyone noticing? sigh...

LenniEd · 30/05/2008 13:36

Sorry chocosolt posted that before I read your message

It will most likely be an internal if it is an early scan. There is plenty of info on them on here though if you have a search - or post in the pregnancy topic and I'm sure people will be able to reassure you.

moosemama · 30/05/2008 13:59

Right

Guess I need to keep reminding myself that we are all pregnant, all (or nearly all) feeling yuk and all suffering from preggy brain fog. I guess hormones will out but promise to keep mine under control from now on .

Now ..

Have lost weight so far and gone down a dress size, except of course for my ridiculously enormous bbs, so despite being thinner absolutely nothing fits.

Last two times didn't really need maternity until after 20 wks but maybe thats because I'm a bit of a hippy that likes baggy clothes.

witchandchips got everything except bigger earlier and worse this time, sickness, exhaustion and tonnes of other preggy niggles that I didn't get at all with the other two. The other times were practically identical - bit of nausea from week 9 to week 16 then positively bloomed until developing spd both times in the third trimester. DH used to say I was laid back, chilled out and blissed out in both previous pregnancies but has told me I am a hormonal demon this time .

scared you could try painting eyes on your eyelids so you look like you are awake when your eyes are closed.

buckles · 30/05/2008 14:01

Hi Chocoslot, I had an internal scan when I was miscarrying and you need not worry, if you need one it is totally painless, they only stick the probe in about 1 inch, really you will be fine.

Shanster · 30/05/2008 14:05

I'm freaking out that something has happened to the baby...I am 7 weeks and 2 days, and for the past few weeks I have had these pron star boobs, really pert and full. This morning I noticed they have deflated..that can't be right can it? I still feel sick, but now I'm worried that something happened. My husband thinks I have gone crazy..

Has this happened to anyone else? This was my first symptom of pregnancy and it is a little disconcerting not to have it anymore.

Chocsolot · 30/05/2008 14:14

Thanks all, I am quite excited now

DH keeps teasing me that it may be twins (what a sacry thought) so at least tomorrow should that one on the head!

moosemama worry not.... our hormones are all raging. I keep crying, someone at work shouted at me the other day on a conf call and although I am usually quite a calm polite individual at work i shouted back and then had to go mute whilst i cried about it! I manage a team of young men (only one of which is married with kids) and I really think they think I have gone mad! So I not only empathise with everyone, it is nice to escape to this thread throughout the day.

All have a nice friday afternoon

Chocsolot · 30/05/2008 14:18

Shanster...... maybe go for an early pregnancy scan, i think some people are lucky enough not to have many symptoms until about 8/9 weeks, so you may just be lucky - fingers crossed eh!
