NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 19/05/2008 11:48

Hiya Tink

Everyone knows here, can't bloody miss it. DS1's teacher is pregnant, due in september, I am bigger than her Have only activly told my mum, MIL, one of my sisters, and my next door neighbour, everyone else has just asked when I'm due!

I am 6+3, seeing MW 3rd June.

tinkstryingtochill · 19/05/2008 12:02

i look about 4 months i am 5+2

moosemama · 19/05/2008 12:39

Hi all and congratulations to all newcomers .

Been really rough, no throwing up but just can't eat. Following on from my 'weight' issues I really should be more careful what I wish for - have now lost 8lbs in a week and seem to be losing either one or two every day! Have also been freezing cold, even on hot days and have to have a blanket most evenings.

Went to neices baby shower on Saturday and ended up retreating to back room to lie on sofa only to have various rellies stick their heads round the door and tell me how awful I looked! Apparently everyone knows, which I am a bit peeved about - seems Mum and elder sis just couldn't keep schtum! Went straight to bed when we got home at 7.00 and stayed there till yesterday lunchtime. Then I got up and moaned and groaned on the sofa all day while DH stripped the lounge wallpaper around me.

Saw GP on Friday, have to call MW between 7 and 10 weeks to arrange home visit, so went into flat spin about the state of the house which currently has about 4 rooms being redecorated and is in total chaos and announced to DH that I am not calling MW until at least the lounge is finished!

Also noticed it said on the form that we have to book a private 20 wk scan if we want one. Its the same with nuchal - if you want one you have to pay £175 and go private! This really set me off as we paid last time but do not have the spare cash this time round. It really bothers me as I feel the 20 wk anomaly is the most important scan, esp as the local hospital doesn't have a scbu which means without a scan how can they possibly know if you need to birth at the main hosp (an hour and a half away!) if they don't know beforehand of any problems! Also was hoping for a home birth this time, but would like the reassurance of an anomaly scan to rule out any potential problems first, just for peace of mind. I heard on the grapevine that they had started to do 20 wk scans since I had DS2 but will have to wait to speak to MW to confirm. (Have checked on line and NHS guidelines are that all pregnant women should be offered 2 scans, one for dating and an anomaly between 18 and 20 weeks. Apparently there is 97% compliance with this nationally at present.)

Also I have the same MW as last time - so seriously considering changing GP practice - there is a new one which I can walk to from our house whereas the current one is 2 buses away (that would give me a legit reason for moving). Just can't face the hassle of actually changing when I feel so rough.

Sorry it's a such a long and miserable post - I guess its taken me by surprise just how bad I am feeling this time round. I didn't have anything like this with either of the other two. Also, can't seem to come on Mumsnet much at the moment, it seems to make me feel worse, think it might be some sort of weird association thing.

God, I am such a misery. Somebody slap me!

mel2005 · 19/05/2008 16:14

i am glad its not just me, i am constantly cold as well, my husband keeps opening the windows as he says its really warm and i have two jumpers on!!!
i am seeing the MW on the 4th june.
i have just been out and bought some maternity clothes. pumpking patch have some lovely clothes half price (its online as well) and mothercare have buy on get one half price on the sale maternity. i bought two breastfeeding tops for £10.50!!! bargain!!!
also i have already picked up a few bargains for the BEAN (thats what my children are calling him/her), a set of baby scales in TKMAX for £22 (as its really difficult to get to weighin), a elec steam steriliser for £5 and eight humphreys corner wide necked bottles for £12 (less than half price), i do intend to breastfeed again but i will express as well as DC2 wouldnt take the bottle as i introduced it too late and i ended up feeding her untill 18mts. DC1 refused to breastfeed and i spent 6months expressing and putting in a bottle for him.

ohhh and i also got two lovely zig zig bobbly white newborn sleeping bags for £7 each (were £28)
some people say its bad luck but i cant resist a bargain (and i am just soooo excited!!!)
one great thing about it being my third is that i know what i need to buy and what wasnt worth the money. i must say a motorised swing is a must have. i had two for DC1 and DC2 one in the kitchen and one in the lounge. they were fantastic.

we only wanted two children initially so i have given everything away. then i became very broody this autumn and we started trying at christmas.
i cant wait, january is just so far away.

Teuch · 19/05/2008 16:16

Sorry, you are not a misery, but you were getting a little out amongst it there, dear!!

The MW will not care a jot that you are decorating! Phone the new practice - I changed really easily, but you have to give time for your notes to be transferred!

Re scans - this is a constant bugbear for me, however I have just secured an early scan in two weeks (all being well) so will keep schtum for now. Take the NIACE guidelines to your MW/GP and explain your reasons, also write/email your local MP and the Health secretary or something. That's what I'll be doing fi I don't get my requisite!!!

I've been feeling nauseous, but DH keeps saying he is too...makes me think it might not be MS

tinkstryingtochill · 19/05/2008 16:18

hi ladies
sorry mm that you feel so dreadful here are some smiles to cheer you up
mel bits sound great i was looking @ getting a motorised swing

largeginandtonic · 19/05/2008 16:21

Hello everyone. Can i join in?

It is my first and i am clueless, even as to when the little bean is due. I may be 3 weeks, may be 7. I had blood taken this morning to see what my hcg level is like.

Teuch · 19/05/2008 16:24
betterhalf · 19/05/2008 16:24

Just quickly popping in to say Hello and Congratulations to you all. My lovely little boy was born Jan 25th this year, and it doesn't seem like 5 minutes since I was discovering I was pregnant. January 2009 does seem a long way off, but believe me it will soon be here. Enjoy your pregnancy's everyone. I'm excited for you all.

moosemama · 19/05/2008 17:33

Teuch thanks for the slap - I needed that.

Feeling a lot more positive this afternoon and have calmed down - blummin hormones!

chefswife · 19/05/2008 18:56

i still feel great. feel lots of sympathy for all of you having a time. i actually almost told DH to stop doing everything for me and telling me i don't need to do any work, etc. thought better of it because i know he is just trying to help. he is having a fabulous time thinking about all the coming holidays and vacations in the future. i have also been back exercising; pilates, yoga and low impact aerobics. found some good references for postures and such on youtube. however i too am very cold the last few days... just thought it was the weather. looks like we already had summer.

MsSparkle · 19/05/2008 19:32

mel2005 you are right about the swing, they are a godsend!

I have been feeling abit sick, almost like i'm hung over and no amount of food will make that feeling go away. I am telling some people at work on Friday and the family Satuarday. It's almost sad that it won't be our little secret anymore. Once people start finding out it's starts spreading fast!

LenniEd · 19/05/2008 19:45

I'm reluctant to tell just yet, although my belly is starting to protrude. Have lost weight but don't look like I have, look like I've gained about half a stone. Reckon I am 6 weeks tomorrow, so hopefully should get away with not telling until we come back from holiday in mid-June. Scan is booked for 30th June so at least it won't be too long between telling people and knowing if everything is OK.

Am also starting to suffer with morning sickness. It comes on in waves. Last time those acupressure wrist bands helped me a bit, but can't find the damn things. Think they must be with my maternity stuff in the loft.

OoopsWeDidItAgain · 19/05/2008 19:56

Evening All

Done another test tonight.....just to make sure....and you know what, it was still a BFP! How stupid am I.

Glad to read lots of others are freezing too - thought I was just being a bit freaky. However, the mood swings are freaky - I can go from tearful to aggresive to irritable to happy and back to irritable (this seems the most prominent at the moment) all in the space of about 10 minutes. What's that all about!

And as for sleep....I read somewhere that 2nd time mums don't feel as tired cos they don't have time....yeah right...don't have time but still feel like I could collapse again 20 minutes after getting out of bed.

And still so early...how many more weeks before it goes please......

LenniEd · 19/05/2008 20:03

Not sure the tiredness will go Ooops... was exhausted from DD before I got preggers again... think the tiredness may jst last about another 18 years or so....

On a more hopeful note... think it is meant to get better in the 2nd trimester, but can't say I saw much difference in last pregnancy. Think it varies from person to person.

Am thinking about asking my midwife about homebirths when I book in next week. Not sure though.

nooschmoo · 19/05/2008 20:10

fourlittlefeet I've been really cold too - been trying to put a throw on the bed at night that DH always insists on taking off, and wake up needing the loo but trying to stsy in bed as long as poss as too cold too move! I thought I was coming down with something.

congrats to all the new ladies!

scared1976 · 19/05/2008 20:13

hey ladies.

your stories about scan availability are really quite shocking. mind you, I live near St Marys in London and the only time I went there I was warned to mind my handbag in case a junkie stole it whilst being given a drip! unreal.

my husband and i are from belgium so i havent quite got to grips with the way the whole nhs thing is meant to work yet. i tried to sign up at a gp but they sent me away because i didnt have my passport with me.

anyways, in the end i just went and paid for an early scan and guess ill do the same at 12 weeks. is the theory that you arrange that through your gp though?

OoopsWeDidItAgain · 19/05/2008 21:22

Thanks for the optimism Lenni.......seem to remember being knackered all through 1st preg too.....and that one only lasted 28 weeks.....quite happy to be tired if only I can last a bit longer this time tbh.
Shall stop complaining and just get on with it!

amytheearwaxbanisher · 19/05/2008 21:35

well i had no tiredness today makes a change hope it passes quickly

Hello all, this thread has grown since I last looked! I have just added myself for 16 Jan... but I'm mainly lurking until I feel more confident it's going to last.

[Wishes everyone well and re-lurks]

LenniEd · 19/05/2008 21:51

Sorry Ooops... didn't mean to be pessimistic, just had a long day

I also hope you last a lot longer this time, sounds very traumatic. Please don't stop complaining! That is in part what MN is for.

I am trying to get in bed by 10pm, that seems to be helping. Am also having 'quiet time' with DD after lunch. She doesn't nap anymore so we are watching In the Night Garden together after lunch. I don't let her watch much TV but at least we can snuggle up on the sofa and have a rest for a while before the whirlwind starts again.

mel2005 · 19/05/2008 22:02

LenniEd, i had a homebirth with my second child and it was fantastic!!! although the midwives only just made it and the gas and air was frozen. i didnt really need pain relief. it was all really relaxed. The house was a building site and the midwives didnt mind as long as i had a warm room to give birth in and some clean towels, blankets and loads of tea. i must say it was nice to get into my own shower afterwards and cuddle up in my own bed. my little boy was asleep upstairs and didnt wake up with all the noise but it was nice to introduce him to his little sister when he did get up.

i had a terrible hospital birth with my first, it really spoilt the birth for me and i was determined to make it better the second time around.

i will certainly be demanding a home birth again this time. i am lucky that the ambulance station is only a few miles from me and the hospital is about 30 min drive away, so if anything did happen we could move quickly.

nooschmoo · 20/05/2008 08:07

I like the idea of a home birth, but feel quite scared - DD was a difficult delivery (hands up by her head & umbilical cord wrapped round her legs & waist keeping her knees bent) & i still have very vivid memories of how terrified i was, & how pleased to be in the hospital, as the consultant who came was a lovely, calm authoritative man who explained everything really clearly and calmly and didn't do anything without mine & DH's permission. (although he could have said anything by that point i just wanted it all over ) i think that's the way i'll go this time. The idea of all that happening in my flat just sends me into a cold sweat - am i a chicken?
