Evening all, congratulations to everyone who has just joined us.
I'm emotional, had my first proper cry after finding out I was preggers after watching one of the girls of 'teen mum high' give birth the other day. DH just laughed. ms hasn't really kicked in for me yet, but like many of you I am sooo tired. I feel like i've spent all day climbing mountains, when all i've done is sit down at a conference all day.
Going to tell the parents on Saturday which is really exciting, except i'm a bit worried cos if they are anything other than 100% pleased I will probably cry, hormones and all that. Also think i'm going to have to tell work on Monday - would have preferred to keep it secret for a while but for various reasons think that the earlier I tell them the better.

Teuch · 15/05/2008 21:35

Hey all! Congrats people, lovely to see so many for January

Very nauseous again today!

Tink - it's a tricky one as the MW will likely go from your LMP but your know what your true date is, so you know when certain things should be happening.

I'm impatient, so I understand wanting to be further on in first trimester, but I am far more pernickety and need to know that what is happening now is right for now if you know what I mean.

If you are vague about long cycle/lmp then they should send you for a dating scan anyway, so that your blood tests/scans/etc are all as accurate as possible.

And I want to keep you in January...your posts are always warm and friendly and make me smile

nooschmoo · 15/05/2008 22:52

Hi all - have added my EDD - very exciting, makes it seem a little more real, as I still haven't got my head round it despite 5 BFPs. I guess like everyone, if it wasn't for the sore bbs, tiredness and short temper (poor DH - i tell him one minute not to treat me like china, then complain that he's not waiting on me hand and foot enough for my liking) I would just think all the tests were from a bad batch!

Having more spotting here . Am waiting for 9am so I can phone EPU, will insist on being seen today. Had some mild spotting couple of days ago then nothing til last night - can't bear this whole on and off thing, just need to know if things are ok or not. Will check in later with news either way.

1973magpie · 16/05/2008 07:24

Okaythen hope all goes well for you at the EPU, I had some spotting with dd2 and was terrified, but I found the EPU staff were lovely, and helpful.

Fingers crossed all turns out well for you, hard as it is try not to worry, it is very common to have spotting in pregnancy, somewhere on MN there is a thread about it and loads of people have had it.

HTH

tinkisexcited · 16/05/2008 08:30

ot hope all is ok!

Teuch · 16/05/2008 08:34

okaythen - hope you get seen today. Spotting is not normal but it is common so everything crossed for you

notyetBlooming · 16/05/2008 09:50

Hello Ladies - can I join?

got my BFP a few days ago. Think EDD is 20th Jan along - with MrsAay and Ooops

This will be my third DC (am I crazy?) I have DD 4 and DS 2. I'm 36 (37 when babe is due) so am probably in the geriatric category on here!

Hope everyone is feeling OK today. Think I'm still in shock - news not yet sunk in!

okaythen · 16/05/2008 09:51

Hey, hope everyone is ok and not too yuky feeling this morning. Thanks for your kind words.

Spoke to a lovely lady at the EPU, well sniffed at her anyway and I've a scan at 3.20pm today. I know I should be trying to be positive but I'm just so tearful and worried. Only time I've bled when pg before I mc so hard not to think the worst. Has worked out quite well at DH will be over doing some work at the Matty today so will be on site so won't have to wait for him to come across from sick kids.

chefswife · 16/05/2008 09:54

okaythen · 16/05/2008 19:29

Evening ladies, thanks for your support today . My scan at the EPU went really well, we saw a good strong looking bean complete with heartbeat. The lady who scanned could see some bruising around the implantation area and reckons that the spotting is a result of this dispersing and disappearing so there may be some more spotting for a couple more days but then should stop. All in all a relief all round. From the scan they worked out that I'm 8 weeks which puts me squarely as due in dec 08 - edd would be 27th but prob going to be an elective section so would be around the 12th. I guess that means that I can't really mascarade as due in Jan but hope it's still ok to post from time to time and see how everyone here is doing!

Scared - glad your scan was ok, not sure how early they can reliably see a heartbeat. Will they scan you again before you dating scan? Could def see the heartbeat on ours at 8 weeks so if there was a chance of scan in a couple weeks time you should see one for sure.

MsSparkle · 16/05/2008 21:29

okaythen that's wonderful that everything is ok

I haven't felt sick today which is a relief. I find eating little and often makes me feel alot better.

We are having a barbeque next Saturday (24th) and so dp and i will be telling the family then. The only thing is, some people i work with are going to be having an Ann Summers party next Friday night. Do you think i should tell them i'm pregnant as they will wonder why i'm not drinking? I don't really want to tell anyone before the family but as we will be telling the family the next afternoon i figured it would be ok?

okaythen · 16/05/2008 22:11

Thanks MsSparkle! Can you use the fact that you've driven to the party as an excuse for not drinking. If not another good one is to say you're on anti-biotics for soemthing minor like a uti and can't mix with drink?

chefswife · 17/05/2008 11:16

Ah? no one here yet today. Hope all is well. I still haven?t heard from the hospital yet when to go for testing. It?s coming up to two weeks for this referral. Is this normal?

LenniEd · 17/05/2008 14:42

Try saying you are dieting on the drink front. Or have a lemonade and lime and say its got whatever you like in it! In all honesty if they are close friends then we found last time round it was best just to tell people, otherwise the excuses for not drinking/going out end up so elaborate that people just think you are being funny with them - the main reason people seem to avoid telling are work issues or worrying about miscarriage. You'd need friends and work to know if anything did go wrong so probably best just to tell. Luckily we no longer have much of a social life (I blame DD ) so don't think we'll have to worry until we get to the summer BBQ season.

Pleased to hear your good news okaythen Chefswife I don't really know how it works with referrals so can't help, but might be worth giving your surgery a ring and asking them.

I've tried to book an appointment to book in with the midwife but the earliest one they have is the end of June. I will be 13 weeks by then and will miss my dating scan. Have left messages for the midwives to try and sort out another time (they only have 3 slots a week) but haven't heard anything back. Am starting to get stressed about it since am away for 2 weeks in June and don't want to go away without any antenatal notes in case anything happens and I need to see a doctor. My usually helpful doctors surgery have said that they can't do anything, the midwives run their own appointments and don't work from the surgery so all they can do is pass on another message. Any ideas on what I can do? Do I have to book in with the midwife or can my GP do it?

missjackson · 17/05/2008 16:40

That's a great link Tink, thank you.
Yes, I'm still not sure whether I should go with jan 10th (lmp) or jan 17th -- my periods were always irregular so I actually have no idea, but I guess a week here or there won't make much difference!
Feeling very emotional -- my dog died last weekend (the same time I found out I was pg) so I am veering from extreme happiness and excitement to terrible grief. It's beginning to get better though.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Don't you think we got pg at a good time so we can be heavily pg in the winter in big jumpers rather than in the sweltering heat?! Pat on the back...

LenniEd · 17/05/2008 16:50

Sorry to hear about your dog MissJ... I dread the day myself. Our 2 dogs are both about 5 now and I'm already worried about them. They are such lovely creatures, so loyal, I'm sure your dog had a lovely life though, that's what's most important.

I have a really long cycle and last time my GP advised me to go with as late a date as I could get away with since it reduced the chances of being induced for going over my dates. Am planning on doing the same this time for the same reason.

MsSparkle · 17/05/2008 17:46

I think i will just say i'm pregnant and be done with, it's alot easier that way!

missjackson you are right, being heavily pregnant in the winter will be sooo much better! I had dd Oct 06 and was big in the summer- it was hell and seemed to be the hottest summer ever!

nooschmoo · 18/05/2008 00:12

missJ so sorry about your dog! My dog is 11, and is my baby (apart from DD) and i don't like to think too far into the future. I hope you feel better soon, you have my sympathy .

Hope everyone is ok, and no-one is too sick!

fym · 18/05/2008 09:06

can I say a very tentative hello??

BFP this morning, due 26th Jan (although v early days)

LenniEd · 18/05/2008 11:06

Hello fym, congratulations! I'm still feeling tentative even though BFP now 2 weeks ago... not sure I'll feel certain until the 1st scan.
