Poor Ellie - and poor PFJ. Its a bit of an unbreakable rule to try to sleep when the baby sleeps - you sound as much in shock as I was after DD. I really empathise, it's so hard. But they do start to know the difference between night and day soon. It may be a bit early, but I started by always bathing at same time in the evening, changing her clothes, being quieter to let them know its night. Even if it didn't affect DD, it made me feel like I was doing something with some structure...I am so sorry its so hard...

sagitta · 22/04/2008 14:31

My other tips, PFJ - again it may be early if you are still feeling shit, but when DP goes back to work, get out of the house if you can. Baby groups, or even a walk to the shop can make you feel more like you again.
Or just let jack cry if you can't take it (he won't come to any harm), go outside, have a ciggy, or just take 5 mins for yourself.
FWIW I wanted to throw myself out of the nearest window until DD was about 6 weeks, and then it got better. Luckily we lived in the basement

OK. Now I really don't want another baby! Anyone got any tips on how I keep it in there? !

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 22/04/2008 14:32

also pfj- think 2 weeks can be a hard marker as you're exhausted from labour / sleepless nights but often its not long until things improve. even if nights dont get better yet, babies at this stage often get enough of a day routine so you can plan a bit and get to know when you can nap / go out etc. So and please dont worry- everyone feels rough at two weeks. Do think about what VS said though- we all should from time to time I think

northeastmummy · 22/04/2008 16:13

Oh PFJ - everyone is full of great advice. It really is tough initially, there's no doubt about that. But if you can force yourself to get out and about (as long as you're still getting your sleep!), it will make you feel a lot more human again.

I felt exactly like you with DD1. I was searching through books, raking the internet etc looking for the "answer" and everything kept saying it'll get better by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 months ... blah, blah, blah. I just thought there was no way I would get to that stage.

You know the most remarkable thing now is that looking back on it, it flew past (and things got better long before everyone predicted). When I was in it, it felt like an eternity, but in reality it was no time at all.

The important thing is that you start enjoying it by finding ways of dealing with it (it sounds like you're doing this already), and if you don't, speak to someone who can hopefully help you to find ways.

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 16:36

(((((((((hugs)))))))))) PFJ - no magic words of wisdom, and dont want to say it does 'it get easier' as your probably likely to throw something at me. Take it easy when you can and keep talking if not in RL then at least on here.

Wonder how Ellie's doing?

MW has just been still not discharged apparently no infection in wound but still not healed properly so back in a week to check on it again (o joy another day stuck in the house waiting). On the plus side Aeryn has been declared jaundice free and has put 10oz on in 5 days - little chuffer.

VictorianSqualor · 22/04/2008 16:43

I think I may have an infection in my wound, there a section of it that isnt fused and is yellowy plus it really hurts, Gonna get the mw to check tomorrow.

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 16:48

Is it sore? Diff to see whats going on under the 'fold' isnt it. Did you get your stitches out on Sunday?

VictorianSqualor · 22/04/2008 16:49

Yeah sunday and its only one side that is sore, which is where it isnt fused properly.

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 16:54

Did you have any probs with healing after the last 2? Mine have been fine before, said to the MW today I think its coz my muffin top is bigger so theres less air getting to to scar IYSWIM. Either way its a pain in the butt as she wont D/C me until healing better.

VictorianSqualor · 22/04/2008 16:59

No none, but again the overhang isnt letting air get to it, so i think thats what it is.
She said to me it was a bit weepy and to try lying down naked but thats easier said than done with 3dcs!

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 17:01

I was given the same advice and my reaction was the same, just have time for a bath/shower let alone lay down lifting my stomach up for 10 mins afterwards.

PortAndLemon · 22/04/2008 17:09

Iremember someone (on another thread and possibly another board) being advised to dry their incision off with a hairdryer (on cool setting, I'm guessing) after they bathed/showered. Might be a shortcut to the 10 minutes thing?

VictorianSqualor · 22/04/2008 17:26

Its not even after the bath that is realy an issue for me Pal, thats one time i probably do let the air get to it cos alex no doubt needs feeding straight after so i lay on the bed with him, it's more that it gets sweaty during the day.I've got a maternity pad on it now that a friendsuggested which seems to stop it getting too bad but it's still pretty impossible, especially as you have to wear knickers big enough to use a pad and not sit on your cut so its covered constantly.

On another note I've just created a new photoalbum here if anyone fancies being nosey

KnitterInTheNW · 22/04/2008 17:28

PAL, you beat me to it! Was going to say (but was tied up doing George things) that I've been hairdriering my wound after washing it every day as advised by my doc, and it's healing much better now.

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 17:38

Might have a go at the hairdryer then, thanks ladies

VictorianSqualor · 22/04/2008 17:48

lol@ 'wound' btw, we sound like big tuff warriors

moominsmummy · 22/04/2008 18:33

just quickly checking in to see how ellie is doing and sends some good labour vibes

PFJ - hugs to you honey (and tell all those visitors to piss off unless they are going to do something useful like clean the toilet or scrub the kitchen floor)

only one more day of DH's treatment and I am now determined we will travel home later tomorrow night - I love my mum dearly but the PG hormones are making me v irritable and I just want to be in my own home... she is fussing round me which is great/annoying in equal measure.

Bainmarie · 22/04/2008 18:38

Congratulations Soph! Also wondering how Ellie is doing, can't believe how unhelpful some MWs are. I had a v similar comment after having dd, but was (eventually) recommended nippleshields too, which really helped and was able to feed dd and ds for over a year (without shields), so I think MW is talking bobbins!

Had overdue appointment today, am hoping sweep will set things going, if not am booked into hospital to be induced on Friday (well, I suppose at least it makes childcare arrangements easier!)

Hope you are feeling better soon PFJ and VS.

gemprincess · 22/04/2008 18:51

wow i have missed so much, congrats to all of you that have had your babies and lots of happy thoughts to those of you in labour and late pregnancy. We have been having a tough time with Ashton, he has chronic reflux which are causing colour changes and is on domperidone, ranitidine and milk thickeners. On top of this we are awaiting chromosome blood tests results. Anyway the good news is that he is home and we are adjusting to 4 young ones now,I knew it would be hard with a healthy baby but this is tough now but i love it. Just sold ou house too and moving next month .. must be mad.. sorry for the long post.
Before i forget great news bout the breast feeding scorpio, really pleased it working out.

elfsmummy · 22/04/2008 19:23

Congratulations Soph and scampmum.

Does that mean that scamp has 2 DDs with birthdays a day apart? Or was it on the same day?

Gemprincess My DD1 had reflux. But it was silent (no vomiting) and it was really tough until she was properly diagnosed and treated. So thinking of you and hope things improve for you all now he's on his treatment.

Things pretty tough here too. DD1 hates me breastfeeding and has a major melt down everytime I start. DH back to work tomorrow and I'm hoping that she'll learn to lump it more quickly when there isn't an alternative person around IYSWIM. I've tried reading/watching TV/stickers with her whilst I do it and its been fairly un sucessful. Today I did feed in the garden whilst she played with her car etc and that was a little better so fngers crossed it stays nice enough to have my norks out in the garden!

Also had to dash out for a double buggy today as DD1 not exactly cooperating with walking and I physically couldn't leave the park yesterday as could carry her and the ball and push DD2! Took all my powers of persuasion and nearly 45 minutes to get to the car!

DD2 also completely turned around day and night. She screamed for nearly 3 hours last night, apart from when boob was in mouth and eventually DH had to take her out in the car. She doesn't seem to be able to lie flat and will only slepp if held or in her car seat. My reflux alarm bells are ringing at top volume to be honest. Still its too early for me to start getting paranoid about that.

My word - this is an essay but I don't get on very often.

Good luck Ellie

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 19:24

Can you give yourself a bit more stress, cant believe your going to move house as well as everything else. Hope Ashton's reflux being sorted with the meds.

I remember a friend LO being put on domperidone and thinking oo sounds like champagne

Denny185 · 22/04/2008 19:34

I think they were a day apart in the end.

Good luck with feeding tomorrow, hopefully if jus you homw she'll have no-one else to play up to and may calm down, fingers crossed. Ive been lucky so far most feeds seem to tie in with sleep/ in the night garden/ more sleep, I think only one feed while DS awake. Is she old enough to play c-beebies on the computer? Someone else mentioned having a box of toys that only comes out during feeding?

lorisparkle · 22/04/2008 20:18

Just a real quickie. DS2 was born on 17th April at 11.15am by c-section. He weighed 7lb and 12.5oz.

Must type and run - they are both asleep so time is precious.

PortAndLemon · 22/04/2008 20:26

Congratulations lorisparkle!
