OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rolf · 20/04/2008 21:24

I have 2 MiLs .

Neenz - thought you'd popped! Glad you're still hanging on.

DM - Jackson is a great name

Poppy- - DH has yet to do any of the hypnosis exercises with me. He keeps mumbling and wandering off. I've practiced it once with the doula and will ask her if she can do it again next time I see her, but I could do with DH doing it too.

Sybil - great about the pool. What sort is it? I really would love to try and use the pool in the hospital but my consultant wasn't sure if I'd be able to use the MLU. I'm trying very hard not to get worked up about it - I really don't want to use the central delivery suite again and I don't think their reasons for keeping me out of the MLU (if that's what they do) are good ones.

Splodgesmum - how insensitive of your MiL, especially in the context of the difficult time you and your DH have had.

I've been getting quite a lot of BH contractions - even a few regular ones (whilst watching Dr Who!).

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 20/04/2008 22:13

No not popped unfortunately, still fat and uncomfortable but mustn't complain

DH was off work last week and we went away for a couple of nights to a hotel with a spa (in Blackpool - ugh). Hotel and spa lovely, Blackpool rank. So that's why I have not been on for a while.

Looking forward to a week of sitting on my ass at home (except tomorrow I am going to my friend's house, she is going to cut my hair).

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 06:19

Morning everyone

Neenz - nice to see you back, have to say there are 2 things you'll have to get used to from your list as they won't be changing for a while!!!
3.not being able to sleep for more than two hours at a time

  1. worrying all the time about whether the babies are OK
Sorry

Sorry to hear about mil problems to those suffering

Dh and I are still feeling rough today , this baby must be so fed up of my coughing now, and I'm aching so much with each cough. I've had honey and lemon, Sophie - what did you use when you had your bad cold? I've also got a sore throat, headache and earache, oh yes and I'm allergic to paracetemol so that's out of the question.

Sil dropped a bombshell on me last night, she's getting married in the summer, wants to get married here in Austria, which is fantastic BUT it will be about 5 weeks after I've given birth, I've told her no full length photographs of me, I'll have to strategically place baby in front of my blubber. So ladies, this morning's quest for those of you at home not too well or at work pretending to do some is to find me something to wear which I can easily breastfeed in, and hides a multitude of sins which will be my stomach.Do you think it will make any difference if I stop eating chocolate from now on

Happy Monday to you all.

sophiewd · 21/04/2008 08:36

Morning everyone.

Deb - twas a simple linctus that I had and made a huge difference. Sorry to here about your wows, and good luck with the wedding planning!!

Had a great day yesterday with family, it was nice enough to sit outside and have a barbecue and Edie enjoyed playing with all her cousins most of whom were fab with her, we don't comment on my brothers sons of satan children. They are my half brothers and sisters so their mother and step father were there and also their step brother and sister so good to catch up with everyone.

Off to physio today which is a good thing. Really hurt to get out of bed this morning and struggling to do anything. Roll on 19th June.

Neenz good to see you back, they were worried on the multiple thread as well, came looking for you. So a race between you and Makecakes.

PiggyPenguin · 21/04/2008 09:14

Hey, glad to see you around Neenz, I wouldn't bet on them coming anytime soon though. A really good friend of mine had twins a couple of years ago and she went until 39 weeks before a natural labour and birth.

The birthing pool is a 'pool in a box' one. I've never had a water birth before, and I'm hoping it is going to be a home one, although I am still a bit anxious about it. My midwife is really keen on it - more than me maybe! - but as there are no birthing pools in my hospital she did promise that if I decide to go into hospital she will come with me and deliver the baby in our pool there. I originally wanted a domino delivery where the community midwife delivers in hospital but our trust won't pay for that, this is the sneaky way around it.

makecakesnotwar · 21/04/2008 09:22

Neenz- you are back!!!! Forgot you were going to Blackpool (could have told you it was rank but didn't want to spoil the surprise!!) Love your list too, but agree with Debs- once the babies are here, we'll spend even more time worrying. Take it easy.

Debs- poor thing, just what you need. I have my BF wedding not long after baby cakes arrives and she' just informed me I'll be doing a reading...I bought a wrap dress from Isabella Oliver during pregnacy which I am hoping will work afterwards. That would be my suggestion. Although I think I saw on Jojo Maman website a couple of 'feeding dresses' that seem quite nice. The other thing would be to wear trousers (maternity?) a feeding top and a smart jacket....the top should make feeding easy, you should be comfy (plus maternity trews will fit, and trinny and susannah always say something about not worryng about the size of the clothes but the fit) and the smart jacket will hide a multitude of sins. I have a couple of fairly flamboyant jackets and people spend so much time commenting on them that they never notice the extra pounds (at least that's what I tell myself!)

Splodge- I can only sympathise. I have a bloody nightmare of an MIL (she whispers for fear that somehow mil has tracked me down here and is monitoring my every word...it's happenend before). To be honest, I chose to ignore very similar comments and started filling the house with stuff from 24 weeks and bollocks to it. I would try and persuade her that you need the pram and cot in advance so that you can practice...all the books and midwives say that you need to be fully familiar with baby gear before the baby arrives ( I used the excuse that I neede3d to get the dog used to everything so she wasn't too blown away and threatenend by new arrival). You could always tell her there is a chance you might deliver early .

Off to the docs this morning to talk painkillers. DH working from home and have NCT starting on Wednesday- 5 classes that finish just before I am induced. I'll say it again- I'm having a baby!!!!

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 09:24

OMG I'm going to have a baby.... it's just hit me because my car seat, carrycot and pushchair have just arrived. I'm so excited. Dh on the other hand just had to lift it out of the box for me, and he's already moaning about the weight of it, you wouldn't think he'd been there when I've been looking at them would you? So now we have to try and assemble it, it looks very complicated I'll post a photo when it's assembled and ready to go!!

Sophie sounds like you had a good time with your family, One of my best friends is called Edie and she is lovely.

Sybil, I'd love a water birth too, unfortunately the boys had different ideas when they were born but maybe 3rd time lucky

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 09:29

Thanks Makecakes, will browse a few more online shops.

I also knew the truth about Blackpool Neenz(I'm from there) but I didn't like to let on!!

As you can tell I don't hold with superstition - and as Makecakes says I think it's going to take me 7 weeks to get used to folding/unfolding,attaching car seat etc... so I have to have them in the house.

LauraT · 21/04/2008 09:30

makecakes you beat me to it, was just about to recommend the Isabella Oliver wrap dresses for Deb too! I had a wedding 2 weeks ago, and it was great for that, and my cousin is getting married on 31st July, so baby will be max 6/52 old and may only be 2/52, planning to wear it again for that, v comfortable and very adjustable for fluctuating waistlines. Also, they come so beautifully wrapped it's like getting a present!

Can't remember who was asking, poss libralady? about folic acid and anaemia? there are several different kinds of anaemia dn one is due to a low level of folic acid, so it may be that your stocks are low and your GP is wanting to replenish them, this is different to the reason they suggest taking folica acid in early pregnancy.

Have been off work this week, nice relaxing time having our entire bathroom ripped out (leaving us currently with only a toilet which needs to be fluched with a bucket of water). Apparently the destructive phase is now finished and it's all constructive from here on in... in the meantime, I've had to rejoin DH gym so that I can have a shower before work! (am feeling v smug though as have been for a swim too this morning!)

Hope everyone is having a nice day.

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 09:32

Laura - in your experience is there anything I can take for this damn cold and cough?

LauraT · 21/04/2008 09:40

depends on the main symptoms. If it's 'just' a cold then sympotomatic treatments like simple linctus for cough and paracetamol (or whatever you can take instead given your allergy) for aches and pains are about all you can do... even if you're not pregnant, nothing makes it better any quicker TMI alert If you are coughing up any green/brown/yellow gunk, then you may have a chest infection and antibiotics will help clear it up and you should see your GP.

hope that is of some help?

ktpie · 21/04/2008 09:57

Morning everyone, hope you all had good weekends. I had a tremendously lazy time but keep thinking that will all stop once the baby comes so making the most of it.

14 days left at work! (not that I'm counting or anything!)

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 10:03

Thanks Laura, no gunk being coughed up, will go and take some linctus and I don't have an alternative for paracetemol unfortunately.

Will try not to ask you any more medical questions.

I am still on stage 1(of 37) steps to assemble this pushchair !!!HELP

Rolf · 21/04/2008 10:05

ooh, Laura, if you're still online (and I know these questions must be such a thrill for you!!) - I've had a cough for about 2 months, coughing up horrible amounts of yellow gloop. I now feel as though it is suffocating me although otherwise I don't feel ill. BUT I really don't want to take antibiotics. Vile amounts of phlegm have been my trademark during this pregnancy so I bet it will just come back. So this is my question: will the IV antibiotics I'll have for GBS act on the infection - so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

Promise not to ask any more medical questions. And sorry about the TMI re yellow gloop.

Deb,Makescakes and Laura - I'm in the same boat about clothes. My DS1 is making his First Comunion on 21 June (I'm due on 7th) so will need something I can bfeed in that will cover my blubber. The other nice detail is that I have gross varicose veins, including a few on my calves and near my foot, so I need to be able to cover them up. It may be too hot for thick tights underneath a wrap dress and although I'm wearing maternity trousers all the time I am quite dumpy in them.

Sophie - I LOVE the name Edie. is it short for Edith? I've been waiting for a good moment to mention it to DH.

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 10:13

Rolf sounds like you need some decent maternity trousers( I'd lose the yoga pants for 1st communion , shoes with a bit of a heel and a nice smock type top or breastfeeding top.

LauraT · 21/04/2008 10:40

rolf the IV ABx you'll get are unlikely to completely get rid of a chest infection as it's a one-off dose - a chest infection usually requires a longer course, and may not be the same sensitivities (i.e., might not kill the right bacteria).

If you're not feeling unwell apart from the cough, your GP may not feel you need ABx anyway, but if you're coughing up crap then it's worth checking it out as you'll need to be fighting fit when baby arrives!

I'd check out Isabella Oliver for the smart trousers, it's my new favourite shop! (you get 10% discount through mumsnet as well)

whinegums · 21/04/2008 10:41

Hello everyone, just been catching up on the posts from the weekend - another quiet morning in the office... Not much to report here - part two of Parentcrap this afternoon, it can't be worse than last week (or can it?).

debinaustria · 21/04/2008 10:44

OK, part 1 achieved, 1st bit has clicked into place but cannot do part 2 AARGHHHHHHHHHHH

sophiewd · 21/04/2008 10:45

Rolf - yes it is short for Edith.

Deb - you will get there in the end.

Upsidedowncake · 21/04/2008 10:50

Morning everyone

Well I'm loafing about twiddling my thumbs with nothing to do at the moment, which is rather nice. I'm sure I'll suddenly be sent a load of stuff in a minute.

Pregnancy / BF clothes are a nightmare, aren't they? I'm still esconced in my black yoga trousers and will be for the foreseeable future. Isabella Oliver, lovely!

Why oh Why do people insist on interfering. Splodgesmum - why would you not need a pram or a cot until a few days after the baby is born. Can you tell her that she is stressing you out, and you mustn't get stressed while pregnant as is dangerous for the baby?

Rolf, yuk. Poor you. Roll on the end of pregnancy.

Debs, sorry you're still not well. I think you have given it to me and DS. Does Tristan still have it?

PregnantPenguin · 21/04/2008 10:55

Neenz - Great that you're back. I agree with all of your points and I'm only having one bean!

Working from home today so I can go to first NHS antenatal class today. DH can't make this one, which is really annoying because things like this are so much more bearable when you know that someone else is quietly sniggering at the same things as you...

Dylansmum - I love the name Jackson. Also love the name Dylan too (it's going to be this LO's middle name). It may get shortened at some point though....but not until he's older and makes that choice himself. (I won't let my RL name be shortened, so no-one does. My brother is the opposite and hates his full name).

I really scared Dh yesterday. We were at a boot sale and got a great baby gym for £1!!! Anyway, seller said 'you can't have long to go' and I said 'no, just under a month'. If I'm not going to see the person again (checkout girls, random strangers in the street, etc), I've started saying I'm due a month earlier than I am to avoid all the 'just the one?', 'aren't you big?', and my fave 'are you sure?' comments. I hadn't warned Dh that I do this though and he thought he'd got the dates wrong and I was due 12 May rather than June. V.v.v. funny... He's making me back the hosp bag this week just in case though.

LauraT · 21/04/2008 10:55

whinegums you never know, part 2 might feature Keith Chegwin!

we had part three on thursday, which had the comedy highlight of a pair of neds joining us. While practising "the relaxation" ned bloke encouraged his partner with the ever helpful "come on, relax, you look a like a big mushroom. RELAX. RELAX... sod it PUSH PUSH PUSH!

There was also a tour of labour suite, which was entertaining in its own way. There are two types of rooms at my hospital, one which is 'spartan' in decor and space, and one which are much larger with separate sitting areas, baths etc. The midwife explained to the class that you could only use these rooms if you weren't being monitored by the anaesthetist - i.e., you didn't have an epidural. you could see several people weighing up the options seriously as they left the room... hmmm pain control in the event of needing it, or attractive view and a bath....

Rolf · 21/04/2008 10:56

Thanks Laura

Deb - fair point about the yoga trousers . at the pushchair assembly! You can laugh at me when I come home with a new baby and no crib/pushchair/clothes etc etc!

Whinegums - look forward to hearing about parentcrap!

whinegums · 21/04/2008 10:59

Laura, I hope so - this is what is has become, actually HOPING for Keith Chegwin for some light relief!!!! And you had neds too, I'm so jealous.

Sounds like they give with one hand and take away with the other in your hospital. Why do they do this?? Sort of punishment for wanting pain relief. Arghhhhh!

Well done on part 1 Debs, I have no idea how I'm going to get everything to work - it all looks far too complicated to me.

systemsaddict · 21/04/2008 11:05

Hi guys - gosh you can talk! I am in no way caught up on the thread but have been doing my best - wondering who will be first to go now!!

Feeling VERY much better this week after seeing a chiropractor twice last week. I'd read a lot online about chiropractic for SPD and the value of getting 'adjusted' before the delivery. I was highly sceptical, but had got to the little-old-lady shuffling-around stage again (support belt from physio had helped a lot but only for a couple of weeks, then the effects wore off as baby got bigger), and thought anything worth a try. She was great, knew all about SPD, said she wouldn't do anything to the symphysis pubis itself - best messed with as little as possible - but evening out any other problems in the area should ease things a bit. She crunched me in one place (both sides) Tuesday - sacro-iliacs? - then another place both sides Friday - lumbar facet joints I think. This weekend I could take ds into town for the first time in months, walk up and down stairs without doing it one step at a time, and load and unload the dishwasher for the 1st time since 5 months - feels like a miracle! It's not cured by any manner of means, but is miles better. So for anyone considering this, thought I should pass it on.

Hypnobirthing: my dp refused to have anything to do with my CDs last time - until we were actually in the delivery room and he was desperate for anything that he could say that would help, I had to explain the visualisations to him in between contractions! Think he will listen to them in advance this time ...
