evening all. been preparing for dd1 5th bday today. have 15 children next sunday afternoon for party.

oh and told my grandmother our news today. her first response was "how awful", the I got the "wishing for a boy?" "was it a mistake?" questions. she's since phoned back and is alot more positive and excited for us.

gem1981 · 20/04/2008 20:21

Hello Everyone am I too late to join your thread I am due on 26.10

this will be my second I have a 23 month old DS already!!!

Jambers99 · 21/04/2008 07:52

Morning everyone, and welcome to gem1981.

Bethoo, I know what you mean about not quite having grasped the reality of having another baby. We were at the christening of a friend's daughters yesterday, so I told lots of my mates about the new baby - made it seem much more real.

I'm not in maternity clothes yet, but since my weight tends to go up and down a bit anyway, lots of my clothes are quite roomy. Am trying to put off getting the maternity clothes out of the loft since I got really bored of wearing the same old things all the time with my first pregnancy. I too look fat rather than pregnant at the moment, but it's nice to have an excuse to be fat!

We have an architect coming round tomorrow to discuss plans for our loft conversion, finally getting things moving. Doubt it will be done by October though...

ronshar · 21/04/2008 10:10

Morning ladies.
I have had a lovely holiday and am now back to having to do packed lunches and rush out the door everyday!

I am pleased to see we are all still here. With a few new comers, excellent.
I am having to wear maternity jeans but have only bought cheap New look ones £12. Not bad but they keep falling down as my rolls are pushing them down. I have had to buy more new bras. This is getting expensive. Even DH last night was amazed at the size my chest has expanded to already. I think he is looking forward to the next few months, I dont think he is planning to leave the house much.

To all those who havent had contact with their midwife yet. If your midwife is connected to your GP surgery complain to the practice manager. The have a duty of care to ensure you are seen by the appropriate health care professional. Phone the number you have been given and leave a very forceful message. If they are this crap when you are ok what will happen if you need help?
Hope everyone is well and expanding nicely.

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 21/04/2008 13:11

Hi ladies

i'm just looking for maternity clothes actually, as i gave away all mine (as DS3 was the last one! ) but don't want to spend too much as we def won't have any more now!!

Ekka · 21/04/2008 16:13

Hi all, I've been lurking quietly over the last couple of weeks as we were away visiting my grandmother and then waiting for our scan. We just had the scan this afternoon and saw one lovely bouncing baby waving at us. We still have to wait for the combined test results, but it is such a relief to see baby there....

Hope all is going well for everyone - I've lost track of all the updates a bit.

Sparkles I too have to get some maternity clothes - although only trousers, as I found that all my ones from last time round had stretched to the size of my 40wk bump and just end up round my ankles. Am now feeling more confident about buying stuff since the scan, but I'd like to go relatively cheap as well, and I'm not exactly sure where to start. Plus there is the dilemma of jeans - I live in my jeans but have never really got a good pair of maternity jeans. I just can't wear the ones with the big stretchy bit that is supposed to go over your bump as they fall down, however pregnant I am (I think due to my thighs which are always on the chunky side!!!!). Really in need of some advice here!

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 21/04/2008 16:54

Hi Ekka, congrats!

We have our scan on Friday, i can't wait!

I've always bought maternity jeans from Next as they are really comfy and they are one of the only places that do petite maternity clothes, so i'll order some jeans from there once i've had the scan and i'll prob check out ebay for a few bits too

If your local NCT has a sale coming up they are good, just checked and our next one isn't until Nov which is no use for me

pepperrabbit · 21/04/2008 17:05

Has anyone moved into proper maternity bras yet?? I need to go shopping but just never feel myself without a bit of underwiring! and the air conditioning at work means I alsways wear some padding.... I went through my cupboards/attic over the weekend and even though this is my 3rd pregnancy I seem to have moved seamlessly from 32C to 38DD before - this can't be right?? Cup runneth over certainly applies at the mo, definitly got some looks today as I rushed to get DS1 from preschool, bouncing along embarrassingly!

Ekka, I have got some stuff from H&M maternity before - it's quite reasonably priced and though much is aimed at the slightly (ahem) younger market but I got some excellent pieces that I hope will see me through this time as well. Though I'm going to have a look at Gap this time too but that won't be cheap!

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 21/04/2008 17:10

lol pepperrabbit i know what you mean

i went out with some friends i haven't seen for ages on saturday night and one of them asked if i'd had a boob job!

Sallypuss · 21/04/2008 17:10

Hello

Newbie here. I've been one of those annoying people who reads the posts but doesn't post themselves. I'd like to pretend I'm shy but more because I've never done this before . I'm 34, knocking 35 and expecting number 1 on 23rd October. Very excited/scared/worried (delete as appropriate according to hour of the day!).

I too am having that 'my clothes are just to tight but surely I'm not ready for maternity clothes dilemma' (as I type my posh business suit trousers have had to have the elastic band to the button treatment just so I can sit upright...very professional ). I went for a trawl around some of the maternity wear shops on Friday evening - how depressing was that? There was nothing that didn't resemble a tent or wasn't polyester.

HOWEVER, just wanted to let you ladies know that Gap maternity are having a great sale trousers, t-shirts etc in a range of over and under bump styles for £4.99 each. Know that it's not everyone who has a branch of Gap nearby but definitely some bargains to be had.

pepperrabbit · 21/04/2008 17:15

welcome Sallypuss! I know I'm the size of a house when DH offers to get the gazebo out!
I know what you mean about the polyester stuff, I googled maternity wear yesterday and browsed Littlewoods direct - nothing had even a hint of cotton - don't they have any idea how hot pregnant women get?? (in a temperature sense that is )

jenwa · 21/04/2008 17:29

I have started wearing some of my maternity jumpers as ump is growing and so are boobs so my tops ride up and expose the wobble! Have got the hair bobble thing going on on my button hole, borrowed DD's small pink ones!

Def need to get some more stuff as when pregnant last time and wore a uniform, now I have transferred depts I dont so need more stuff but dont want to spend a fortune. Did order a top from next and will look at sale stuff in new look as thats cheap and cheerful!

twinklytoes · 21/04/2008 18:15

on my way out to bingo but thought I'd share my bargain today - 3 maternity bras for £9!! mothercare ones were originally £42

mothercare's sale is nowbuy one sale item get second sale item at half price - so definately worth a look.

also picked up 2 humphrey corner bodysuits for £4.

ChilledBunny · 21/04/2008 19:11

For anyone struggling with maternity jeans - have a look at Blooming Marvelous low cut ones - not cheap, but they have elastic inside the waistband on each side that you can tighten or loosen depending on what size you want - nicely done with buttons and have made them fit perfectly (you cant even tell they're maternity). I am in them already and only 12+5 - but the way they're done I'm oping they'll last for the duration.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/04/2008 20:06

Jambers - we got our planning permission through (minus the bit that the git farmer objected to) last week, so are just waiting for final(ish) costings at the moment before it's full steam ahead.

pepperrabbit - it's a total myth that you need special maternity bras. It's absolutely fine to wear underwired ones throughout pregnancy as long as they fit well and are not tight. I am sadly still in nursing bras as still feeding dd.

Welcome to gem and Sallypuss. We are the same age Sally .

Evening everyone. Good news on the midwife front...hopefully! I called them again today and she is seeing me tomorrow morning. I say hopefully as she is on call tonight and has warned me that if she is out all night she will cancel but it's better than nothing which was where I was before.

Off to Ireland on Friday for my neice's first birthday and to tell my Mum and Dad the news .

gem1981 · 21/04/2008 21:26

Hi just to say that we are having our nuchal scan tomorrow (private) this is my second pregnancy (have a 22 month old DS) and they have not booked my dating scan until I am 17 weeks .... is this normal?

I phoned up the hospital today and they said that a dating scan this late is fine. I know we are having our nuchal tomorrow, but as this is not on the NHS does this mean that my 20 week anomoly scan will also be late?

Has anyone had any experiences of this?
Thanks
Twinklytoes cheers for the mothercare tip I am in my mat clothes (have been for some time) so I am off to have a butchers!!!

Hope you are all keeping well

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/04/2008 21:32

No it's not normal gem - it's utterly crap! A dating scan really needs to be done between 10 and 14 or 15 (can't remember which) weeks, as babies start to grow at different rates after that, so later scans aren't as accurate. Sadly too common in the NHS though, and I know that some women don't get offered a 12 week scan at all still.

Make sure that your 20 week scan isn't too late. There has to be time to allow for action to be taken should it show serious anomalies.
Mine isn't until 22 weeks, despite my 12 week one being bang on time. Not sure how that happened!

We have some ladies on the stats who we haven't heard from for quite a while. Am just starting to go through and check if they have posted on the rest of MN or not. Will do a few each day when I get chance. So if the following are still with us then can you pop on and say a quick hello and let us know how you are doing ?

mariekg musicgirl - you seem to still be on MN, but are you still pregnant and do you have a due date yet?

Ekka · 21/04/2008 21:48

Just a quick question - is anyone else having real issues sleeping? I am tossing and turning all night and just not getting a good nights sleep. Don't remember this from last time round, I slept like the dead every night then! Still, I think I'm getting off pretty lightly really....

snowymum · 22/04/2008 08:40

Ekka - no, I'm not sleeping at all. So much to worry about: my little business (how the hell am I going to keep it alive if my baby has colic, or reflux, or just cries all day and night - I can't afford much childcare or extra business staff), is the baby ok, why haven't I felt it kick yet (16.4 weeks so being stupid), why are my thighs and arse so feckin huge (think I'm carrying this baby in my bum), what if there's a problem at the 20 week scan, what if I can't breastfeed, what if the baby doesn't like me, aggghhh!

I am being stupid. And I don't worry (too) much about these things in the day. But at 3am, it seems the perfect time! Sigh.

sambrads · 22/04/2008 10:57

hi ya snowy

these are all normal feelings you are having we would not be human if we didnt worry hahaha
i am going to see the midwife on thursday for check up cant wait as i will hopefully hear the heart beat

my last scan was on 20th march and my next scan is 28th may why oh why do they let us wait so long

i wish the clinic had a scaner so they could check all was ok

my next scan after 28th may is 17thjuly thats like nearly september in my books so not good at all

snowymum · 22/04/2008 11:25

Thanks Sambrads! Funny, as soon as I wrote all those worries down on here it all seemed more manageable. When it's bouncing around in your head it's more tricky.

My next scan is 19th May, so similar to yours, and I don't have any appointments with anyone - gp, midwife - until 14th July! Don't really mind as just want the scan. All the medical professionals I've met with so far except for the sonographer have been, well, disappointing (too busy, too disinterested, seem to think I'm stupid) and don't do much to help. But I want to see my baby kicking!

When do you start to feel it, by the way? Websites and books are very varied in their thoughts - from 16 to 19 weeks. Has anyone had theirs kicking yet? I'm due on 2nd Oct so probably one of the furthest alone, but this is my first.

SmudgeyDoodle · 22/04/2008 11:29

Morning all and hi to Gem. Glad your scan was fine Ekka. I've got mine in 2 hours and I'm getting really scared now. I hardly slept last night and DS is teething too so he woke a couple of times as well. All in all, I can't wait to know! I'm just hoping that they're not going to kick up a fuss as I don't have any paperwork and haven't been booked in yet. I phoned to check it wouldn't be a problem but you never know whether someone else will decide it's an issue!
I haven't got out my maternity clothes yet because I wanted to wait til after the scan but I've definitely moved towards my roomier jeans and tops. Whoever said they live in their jeans but couldn't find any good maternity ones, I agree. Last time I don't think I got any until I was about 30 weeks so doubt those ones will be any good now. Hope you got to see the MW this morning Lozza. CSWS, how's the nursery this week? or is DD just going at the end of the week? I'll let you girlies know how it goes.....

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/04/2008 13:02

Good luck Smudgey!

Nursery school good thanks. She goes Monday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. They apparently did PE yesterday, which involved team games with a ball. Every time I pick her up the teachers tell me how bright she is - it is getting embarrassing knowing what to say in reply! Obviously those 7 extra IQ points from breastfeeding are doing the trick .

snowy - 16-19 weeks sounds like quite an optimistic estimate for feeling a first baby. I didn't feel dd until after 20 weeks, and know that lots of friends have been the same, even with their seconds. I felt this one somersaulting one day last week, but haven't felt anything since (am 1 day ahead of you).

sambrads - I don't think you'll get much sympathy for having to wait a couple of months for your third scan, given that in England we only get 2 in total!

Ekka - sleeping a bit hit and miss here. Going to sleep easier than normal, but tend to wake too early (anywhere between 3am and 5:30am) and struggle to get back off before dd wakes.
