Me thinks we have an imposter....!

jenwa · 23/05/2008 15:54

How odd?????!!!!

Still not heard anynews so thinking maybe it will be tues, aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

As for labour, I did a birth plan last time, wanted home birth and it all started there. Midwife came out before midnight then at lunch time ended up being admitted then by the eve had epidural, waters broke, forceps delivery and a 3rd degree tear so off to theatre to be repaired (sorry TMI!)

This time if all goes well and news good, then will see consultant to discuss birth plan, not really sure what to do as also lost a chunk of hearing after had DD1 (I dont appear to do pregnancy and birth well) and am scared about what is in medications that may be a factor to hearing loss so dont really want epidural, c-sect and would like to attempt home birth again but scared about the slow delivery, contemplated water birth (maybe hosp but only 1 pool) lots to think about but wont start thinking until get my amnio results.

pepperrabbit · 23/05/2008 19:10

jenwa, how frustrating and tiring to have to wait all weeknd - will be thinking of you.
Re birth plans, mine have started with the words "I have no intention of being brave" and that's pretty much seen me through! Tho I did put No Pethidine in huge caps for DS2 after it sent me loopy with DS1 - I was found in the corridor with no idea where or who I was! The midwife said "can I help you", like i'd be popping out for a cup of tea, I was very rude back..... so then she said "can I call someone?" - I was so confused I'd forgotten to ask them to phone DH - how could they not have suggested it before!

Aubergenie · 23/05/2008 19:18

CSWS No we didn't find out the sex. We were asked at the begining if we wanted to and we said no. She didn't linger too long in that area so we wouldn't be able to see and when it was moving its legs it was in a way so that we still couldn't see.

I'm wondering whether we should have done now. I don't know how to refer to the baby and keep called him/her "it". Still, it could be a good excuse to have a 3D scan a bit later on.

hedgepig · 23/05/2008 19:26

pepperrabbit some people pay for that kind of experience you know! ! [hmmm].
I just want to have some experience of birth this time, EMCS last time because of an unrecognized breech, reduced fetal movement's and no amniotic fluid I just want to know what a contraction feels like, which probably sound rather weird, I only want one though

pepperrabbit · 23/05/2008 19:50

Hedgepig
Oh if only we all had just the one contraction!, but I kind of know what you mean - I've only ever been induced, so I feel I've missed out on the whole gently nudging DH awake, getting in the car and driving to the hospital trying not to give birth in the carpark experience, everyone else seems to have .
though as DH points out I hate being late and always force us to get anywhere an hour early, so I'd be off at the first twinge!

pepper its bizzare on a logical level I know it was the right thing to do to get DS out safe and sound - but on the emotional murky bit of my brain there is a loss, its the only way I can explain it. . I'm going to the birth afterthoughts service the week after 1/2 term to speak to the mw counsellor to see if I can get this sorted before October.

ellensmelons · 23/05/2008 21:37

Hi everyone. Last time i was on we were all gearing up for the 12 week scan. How time flies! we now have a loverly new pc and better broadband, although it can still cut off when it likes.

DD1 nearly 8 months now and i have a due date of 22nd Oct - more than a week earlier than i thought! Tis a big baby i think.

I feel SOOOOOOO much better than last preg. I'm also eating everything and anything in sight.... hmm. The melons are out again!

Good to read about all of you and how you're getting on. I don't know about those on their second or third pregs, but i'm a tad more relaxed about this one! Yet 10 x more emotional! Started feeling the little kicks last week, and it's so lovely.

did miss the G&Ts when we had the warm weather too... and the pimms..... I could go on.

perkypopsy · 23/05/2008 21:46

Hi Everyone i'm back - have been so busy with work don't have a second to check MN anymore .
Loads going on - has taken me ages to catch up - don't have long - off on hols tomoz am for two weeks in Spain YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
Scan went fine tuesday - bit of an anticlimax - think the one i had at 13 was more important to me? Have a friends fetal monitor too which is cool but a bit squarky so am sure am gonna be sick of it soon! Didn't ask about sex and US person didn't mention it - am anatomist but wasn't really looking to be honest - all went by in a blur
CSWS have booked an AMAZING doula - very expensive but we both fell in love with her immediately - she was just so down to earth and helpful - was amazed at how much DH enjoyed it - to be honest is first proper convo we have had with anyone so far about the practicalities of having a baby. She also recommended a move to Harlow to the new maternity unit - we're gonna go and have a look round when we get back from hols. Was another Doula who was supposed to turn up last night but didn't which made our minds up (not hard to be fair)
jenwa hope you get good news!!!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/05/2008 22:14

popsy! I was getting worried about you! So is the doula you have hired one from MN? I think you got her before I could, but am meeting another one (a trainee) tomorrow who Mars has recommended. The one I think you might have didn't know you were an Mner though?

snowymum · 24/05/2008 08:39

Morning - had a slightly eventful evening in that this rash I've had has got worse, so I phoned NHS direct who were sooo sweet, and recommended I call the out of hours doctor, which I did, who said I should swing by the Horton hospital where he was on after hours duty, which I did, and he took one look and said 'jolly good, definitely midge bites!' rather than some ghastly disease. SO I feel a complete drama queen for bothering them, but they couldn't have been nicer and when I said sorry for bothering them said that's what they're there for and would much, much rather a pregnant person got in touch than not.

And miraculously the itching seems 100x better this morning - I bet the fact I know it's not anything to worry about has made it go away.

Still - what a worry wart! Phew, though.

Sallypuss · 25/05/2008 07:26

perky interesting to hear that Harlow has been recommended to you. That's also where I'm due to give birth. I've been trying to do some research on how the place is rated - quite unsuccesfully so far. Have seen the birthing unit and there is one pool and then a number of separate rooms. All in all, not too bad and with the security of the main hospital over the road.

jenwa - sorry you're having to hold out until Tuesday. Fingers crossed for good news.

bethoo · 25/05/2008 08:44

am having a nightmare thinking of girls names. what do you ladies think if Eden adn Skye? alot of people think Eden is a boys name but it can be used for both. any suggestions welcome. also Elliot is quite nice and i like Daryl too.

Lozza70 · 25/05/2008 09:32

Hi Bethoo

I think Eden is lovely. Would have a problem with Elliot and Daryl as I really see them as boys names, probably due to them being men I know The whole name thing is a minefield!

bethoo · 25/05/2008 09:34

thanks Lozza everyone seems to be quite negative about Eden saying it is more a boys name thought i think it is more feminine.

should i be concerned about the headache i get every morning? i do not know if it is because i have bad sinuses at the moment or preg related. will mention it at next app in 4 weeks if still carrying on.

Lozza70 · 25/05/2008 09:39

They do say that you can tend to have more headaches in preg but I would get it checked out. Headaches can be connected to blood pressure. Has yours been okay in your appts so far?

bethoo · 25/05/2008 09:43

my blood pressure is low at 85/50 so dont know. i am just comcerned at the amount of paracetamol i am taking. is once everyday ok?

Lozza70 · 25/05/2008 09:50

Don't know what the views are on regularily taking paracetamol but it is the only painiller we can take at the mo. The only other thing that triggers a headache with me is if I get a bit dehydrated. I'm suffering from blocked up sinuses at the moment and am having to drink quite a lot of water during the day to ease it. Having to get up more often in the night for the loo though

sambrads · 25/05/2008 12:00

hi ya everyone

how is things???

bethoo i have got bad back pain from before i have got pregnant and now have syodica down my left leg i have been suffering the pain as i dont like taking tablets but the doc said i could take 2 tablets 4 times a day so im sure once a day is ok

pepperabbit i know what you mean about going into labour yourself. i was induced with ds 10 days late and it was scary and very sore. i suppose i want to know if the contractions are goin to feel the same natural or induced ???

i went and seen my friends new baby yesterday and while i was holding him i was thinking bring it on cant wait

my scan is only 3 days away so cant wait

loulou33 · 25/05/2008 15:20

Hiya all,

Pepperabbit - I went a bit loopy on pethidine last time too. I wish wish wish i hadn't had it but the mw thought it was a good idea and being a newbie i went with her advice. to be fair to her, she stayed with me for whole labour but i think i had to have cs because of morphone made me go wierd and then spent too long lying down, wimpering and talking nonsense!!!(had been very mobile at home and was 7 cm when arrived). I got loads of wierd pains and dr thought i was bleeding internally and rushed me to theatre. I now think it was the pethidine wearing off giving me withdrawal symptoms (it is like herion after all!!)

I have already written on plan that under no circumstances give me pethidine (even if i beg!!)
Hope you're all well and enjoying the sunshine if you have any.....

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/05/2008 17:41

Bethoo - Eden def a girl's name, but Elliot def a boy's name (there was a thread on it v recently and opinion was pretty unanimous for once!).

OP posts:
bethoo · 25/05/2008 18:43

i must admit i was given half a dose of pethidine and i thought it was great. i was jabbering away and it took my mind off the pain, more like having an out of body experience to me as the pain was there adn i could feel it but not iykwim. Weird. mind you i do not think i would have a full dose.
i will also be having my IV of antibiotics too as i have Group B strep.
oh the joys of labour!

AandMsmum · 25/05/2008 19:03

Hi every one, again haven't dropped in for a week or so, just don't seem to get the chance!

Not a happy lady at the moment, embarrassing as it is, I have somehow gotten myself threadworm! Can only assume dd1 has brought the infestation home from school but both myself and dd2 have worms... YUCK YUCK YUCK, have been to the doctor and have been given treatment for it but I really don't like taking medicines when pg but it's that or worms! What a great bloody choice! Has anyone else had this problem before and did it take long to get rid of?!

sambrads I was induced with both dd's and both times were completely different, first time was awful, so painful I had an epidural, second time was a close to going into labour naturally as it could possibly have been (in my opinion) and managed with no pain relief until I was pushing and even then I kept dropping the gas and air down the back of the bed!

bethoo one of my husbands best mates is called Eden, boys name I'd say but hey everyone has an opinion! Have you thought about Erin, that's a girls name and fairly similar...

loulou33 · 25/05/2008 20:05

Yeh, Bethoo, wish i had only had half a dose - i had two and i think that's what did for me!!!! Never again....

Also, i'd vote Eden as Boy's name but maybe i'm thinking of Anthony Eden [hmmm]
