Doh, CSWS I wasn't having a premonition just a PG moment where I confused you and Sprakles!! Hope you have a lovely time when your mum does eventually come (although given the stated satisfaction with her distance.......)
Exciting news about the scans and seeing bits or no bits. Good luck on the names everyone. I seem to remember last time that we wrote lists and crossed names off that we both didn't like and then saw what was left. We had a few choices for each. DS wasn't named for a few days because we wanted to check what he looked like when he came up. Yes, he's called screwed up, wrinkly face!!!

hedgepig · 21/05/2008 21:13

nice frocks sparkles my brother is getting married in July I must find something to wear, maybe I can get a tent for Milletts

Does any one else's belly keep going hard like a rock? Could this be Branxton hicks? I really can't remember from last time

loulou33 · 21/05/2008 21:18

Hi All,

So, Finally had scan and all is well as were blood tests - had to nag for them for 2 days til they came through.

Jenwa - i have everything crossed for you that all is well. My best friend has a similar ratio last year and all was fine when had amnio but it was a horrible wait, especially with bank holiday in middle...grrrr (we also don't get bank holiday in this part of scotland so will be at work Monday...double grrr).

Rosebury - i now regret laughing at your scan experenice as i ended up with my feet in the air too. baby was head down and despite her virtually cutting me in half with scanner she couldn't get clear view of baby's head so she flipped me on my head and my ds and dh just laughed at me!!! DH didn't want to know sex but i was quite keen, a friend has told me about diy kits you can buy and send away - has anyone else tried these??

Hope everyone else is well and blooming. Ooh found some fab linen trouser dead cheap in new look, i bought three pairs!!!
xx

mum2jakeyroo · 22/05/2008 08:26

Morning everybody. Sorry haven't posted for so long. Have been lurking though. I have got my scan next wednesday (20 weeks) but really worried for some reason. Never got to go and have blood tests etc as dss was in hospital 90 miles away and we were staying nearby. I never had the test with my other two but am really paranoid now cos I haven't this time and I don't know why. Hope everyone else is well. xx

jenwa · 22/05/2008 08:41

Morning all.
Thanks CSWS for list, that will help my memory!

Feelin ok this am, waiting for MIL to collect DD in about 10 mins then she will return her about 6pm I can make sure I get rest today. Have a mad headache but think its because I have annoying cough and its making my head hurt everytime I coucgh.

lozza - jealous you are having a holiday!

loulou33- thank you. I am keeping all crossed and hoping they call tomorrow with good result.

annwoo · 22/05/2008 08:41

Morning all, scan date is for next Tuesday. Not finding out the sex as want a surprise after all the hard work/pain.

jenwa hope you get your results on Fri rather than Tue - will be thinking of you.

sambrads · 22/05/2008 09:35

hello everyone

i am so so jealous of everyone scans already i have to wait til wednesday which is only 6 days away but it feels like forever !!

bethoo thats brill that your having a wee girl i myself have a ds and dont really mind what i have but i think a dd would be fantastic!!!

at the weekend i seen some friends and they are all convinced im having a girl one of them said oh if you have another wee boy thn you wont be able to experience being mother of the bride

i was very hurt by her comment and told her im just glad to be be called mummy as there are many women out there who would just love a baby .

my best friend has just revealed to everyone she is pregnant with twins im so so happy for her as she has been told she cant have kids and had ivf and noww she has 2 in her belly how cool is that

jenwa hope all is well with your results and you dont have to wait too long

firsttimer08 · 22/05/2008 09:58

cantsleepwontsleep: if you update the list again, my scan date is june 16th, still ages to go

Sallypuss · 22/05/2008 11:07

Hi all

Glad to hear we're all doing well. Jenwa - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your results (pref. Friday rather than Tuesday).

Good to know there's lots of us going off on babymoons - we booked as soon as I found out I was pg - off to California next Thursday (I'm soooo looking forward to 2.5 weeks off work and some sunshine that I'm having trouble sleeping...or maybe that's the cramp in my foot which has kept me awake for the last 2 nights?!).

I'm 20 weeks whilst we're away so having to wait for the scan until the day we come back - scan + jetlag = not good (17th June for the roll call) when I'll be 21+5. Bit anxious about the scan and leaving it so late especially if they find a problem but on the other hand excited to see the LO again before it's born. DH desperate to know the sex and desperate for a son - I don't mind either way but know that DH will be unbearable for the following 18+2 whatever the scan shows! I guess I'm secretly hoping that LO has its little legs crossed and we have to wait until October to find out.

Has anyone started thinking about their birth plan etc yet? I can't bring myself to read ahead to the labour pages in the books I bought. I watched an NCT dvd that I got free with a magazine at the weekend and nearly scared myself witless. Have also peeked at some of the childbirth threads on MN - scarey stuff. Need to read some positive stories me thinks....

bethoo · 22/05/2008 11:28

sallypuss i think the only positive labours are when they are c-sections
i was hoping for what i had before which was pethidine with gas and air. but sorry if tmi for those firsttimers but the pain still haunts me! but believe me once that little person slithers out of you yo forgive the pain in a way as it was all worth it in the end though at the time you dont think that! hope that is not too scary as do not want to freak anyone out. myabe there are more positive things that someone else can say? i am bloody useless!!

Jenwa hope all is well

sambrads we could swap!! ha ha i am warming ot the idea esp as i saw the cute little dresses in mother care as soon as i had my scan!

Ekka · 22/05/2008 11:53

Jenwa fingers crossed here for you too...

Sallypuss - DON'T watch dvd's of birth, I watched loads of the Baby Channel last time round and it was pretty scary, but actually I don't remember the birth that way at all. Ok, it wasn't pain free, but it was literally 20hrs start to finish (though my mw claims only 6, but thats cos they count from 3cm dilated. Grrrr, I'm not being done out of my full labour time!) and certainly early on there are gaps between the contractions so I found it ok to cope with a TENS machine. We had a hb so I was able to have a huge fry up at lunch before the real work started in the late afternoon. Was in the pool for a couple of hrs and then had about 1-2hrs on g&a which I absolutely loved!!!! I got off really lightly on the pushing stage though - 3 mins, but it really wasn't the nightmare that I had imagined. I guess its different for everyone, but its really hard to second guess how it will be for you. Didn't have a birth plan, other than a general feeling that I really didn't want to end up in hospital if I could avoid it and no cs unless absolutely necessary. This time round my 'birth plan' will be a request for loads of g&a, more for the great p*ssed feeling it gave me than any pain relief . In fact I could have done with it on day 3-4 when the hormones kicked in

Bethoo - little girls clothes are absolutely fantastic (though I have had enough of pink now). In a way I would quite like another just so I can use ours again. Be warned though, don't buy loads of cute little dresses - they ride up around their necks when they are tiny and when they are crawling they kneel on the hems and choke themselves... We have loads that we were given and dd barely wore them. The only ones that were any use were the kind that are the little body suits with a skirt bit attached. Still, you have to get one or two (especially for their 1st Xmas photos), just don't go mad!

Hi All,

i'm still having some nausea especially in the mornings. My stomach also feels hard at times. Has anyone noticed how their belly changes and in my case get's bigger as the day progreses?!

I'm trying to not htink about the labour part til I get there... DH won't let me read too far ahead in the pregnancy books- I reckon it's because he doesn;t want to think about it lol!

I'm 21 weeks today, and feeling more movement then I did before...especially with the football on and DH going mad

hedgepig · 22/05/2008 14:38

hi 1sttimer - yes I'm still feeling /being sick but not every day now. Also getting the hard belly, I think it is Braxton hicks probably although I was never sure last time.

hansnava · 22/05/2008 15:07

hi all.
is ne one else concerned about movements?
im now 18+2weeks and baby will move loads for a couple of days then nothing for a few days. is ne one else having the same problem.
also ive only putv 4lbs on is that normal at this stage.

snowymum · 22/05/2008 15:13

What's going on? yesterday I couldn't stop sobbing for NO REASON AT ALL, and now today I am covered in what look like hives, or bites, or something. I bloody hope they are bites and not some weird disease. Sigh. Have emailed the midwife but, since she has neither got back to me nor sent round an ambulance, presumably it's quite common, or at least nothing to worry about...

iuseantiageingstuff · 22/05/2008 16:30

hello All

Sorry I havent posted for a while,I have been reading the posts every so often and it has felt a little like a rollercoaster with the highs and lows.

I have had my 20 week scan and for the first time we have found out the sex of the baby. Its a boy!!! which my two ds' are over the moon about my dd is not so impressed.
She asked if she could tell my mother in law and said in a dramatic voice"its a stupid boy"

Never mind she will get over it.

Ekka · 22/05/2008 19:00

Hasnava I'm 17 weeks and barely felt any movement yet - I think early on its harder to feel and depends on which way the baby is lying. I seem to remember feeling more movements last time round at this time, but I figure thats because I actually may have spent some time sitting down relaxing (never really seems to happen now!).

I'm also concerned about weight gain - I'm so far still 3 lbs lighter than I was before I got pregnant.... Meant to ask the midwife about it last week, but I was concentrating too much on keeping dd entertained and forgot all about it . Just hoping its all ok.

rowanmac · 22/05/2008 19:00

Jenwa thinking of you, we had the call from the midwife tonight to say the chromosomes were all normal so all well no odd results. Hope you get good news tomorrow. Now at 10 days so out the woods from miscarriage point of view too. Pain has all settled now. Decided not to find out sex so surprise in October.

Sallypuss don't make a detailed birth plan you can almost guarentee it won't work out exactly and then you might feel a failure. The post birth hormones are a bugger! Decide what you feel really strongly about and leave the rest up in the air. I wanted to use the pool and just gas and air. My first words on arriving at the hospital between contractions were 'I want an epidural' but it turned out I was 8cm so just pushed him out. with a bit of morphine which gave me a gap between contractions. 2 1/2 hrs start to finish. Never got near the pool and wouldn't have wanted to. Had 2 fab midwives who were totally calm. i'm relaxed about next delivery as a result, except we live 30-40mins drive from hospital so not sure going to get there!

There seems to be nothing as individual as womens experience of childbirth. I got two good tips from cousins who have 3 children each beforehand, one of which was take everything they offer!

ChilledBunny · 22/05/2008 19:18

EKKA I'm am also 17 weeks and a couple of pounds lighter than I was before I got pregnant. I asked the midwife about it last week and she wasn't concerned at all. She said that if I was losing a lot of weight they'd worry, but a couple of pounds lighter is fine. Also, she said that they measure the baby very well at the 20 week scan, and if they were at all concerned about the baby's weight they then scan more often until term to keep an eye on things. So don't panic!

My 20 wk scan is on 12th June - but looks like DP and I are due to be moving house that day so I'll have to change it. That, coupled with our wedding in 6 weeks time means that I feel like I'm going crazy at the moment! What am I doing to myself?!

annwoo · 22/05/2008 19:34

Glad to hear all seems okay rowanmac.

Sallypuss would also second not making a detailed birthplan, have preferences but go with the flow. Make sure you have some good support with you - partner, husband, friend who is on your wavelength and knows your preferences.

With first had in birthing centre, only gas and air but in end had to be delivered with ventouse as baby was not making that final 'twist' they need and baby had just pooed so needed to come out.

With second two weeks over, was induced strapped to a monitor most of the time . Seemed to go on forever, contractions but no dilation. MW broke waters and baby came soon after.

If birth is natural pain is gradual so able to deal with it. (If not ask for pain relief) With induction pain was severe quite early on, but you are still able to deal with it. Depends on your threshold.l

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2008 20:13

Sallypuss - I would actually disagree with those who have said not to bother with much of a birth plan. I did one when I had dd, and was able to follow it pretty much, except for not being upright to actually give birth. I really truly believe that a positive mental attitude can make a huge difference during labour. I was never really nervous about mine, and I'm sure that that went some way to helping me deliver a 9lb baby with just a tens machine and gas and air.

I'm more nervous this time because of the diabetes complications, which I think will make it rather more clinical. Hoping that a doula will help to alleviate some of this.

Lozza70 · 22/05/2008 20:16

Keeping my head in the sand as far as the birth goes for the minute. I've had quite a few friends and my sister have babies in the last year and their recomendation was to take all that was on offer Plan to think about it when I get back from my holiday.

minervaitalica · 22/05/2008 20:20

Hello! I had my scan too, and all came out normal... I was very nervous, and I definitely had a tear in my eye by the end!

However, umbilical cord was in between the baby's legs so sonographer was not too sure about the sex!! Oh well, wanted to know but no big deal.

SAllypuss - definitely do not watch videos - am a first timer too I did and got quite upset (and I am not squeamish in the least)... I have started my ante-natal classes and that I reckon has really helped me to calm down about it; you kind of feel you are in the same boatas everyone else and that really helps.

rach010 · 22/05/2008 20:56

hansnava i'm 18+4 and i have been thinking the same - loads of movement for about 3 days then hardly anything but started moving a bit more today, its such a worry but i'm sure its normal at this stage.

I'm quite looking forward to giving birth in a strange kinda way, least i'll know what i'm supposed to be doing this time (hopefully anyway).

Bye for now
