Smudgeydoodle pours Sparkles a large glass of her wine of choice and gently persuades any lurking DC into bed!
And relax!

sparklesandnowinefor5months · 12/05/2008 21:26

thanks smudgey

Ekka, ds2 was exactly the same with food at that age, it drove me mad but only lasted a few weeks and he was back to normal. Think it was an independent streak! I just gave in after a while and stuck to what I knew he would eat (why is yoghurt one of those things for every child??)

sparkles & anyone else re: alchohol, I was told by an obstratrician recently that one glass was absolutely fine now and again after the 1st trimester. More than one starts to agitate the foetus. There is no research that he (or I) had come across to suggest one drink will do anything and I've looked at the FAS stuff. Anyway, my tuppence worth, if you want a drink enjoy it!

I'm trying to remember the lovely bit when you're being wheeled with your baby in your arms, I was overcome with joy with ds2

Lozza70 · 12/05/2008 21:54

Hi all, definately expanding here. I was at a wedding the weekend before last and managed to get a dress from Next in a size up from my usual but I looked proper preggers in it and a friend who is 2 weeks ahead of me had nothing at all I think I managed my last day in my usual jeans at the weekend so I will have to break into the maternity clothes.

I have my first appointment with the antenatal consultant tomorrow and I'm hoping I will get a chance to hear the heartbeat again as I've had a couple of weeks of feeling stupidly worried again. Suppose I have months of that ahead of me anyway. Now I have to see either the consultant or MW every 2 weeks, my work will just love all the time I'm out of the office!!

rowanmac · 12/05/2008 22:10

hi everyone, just been popping in to catch up. Has anyone else had to have amniocentesis. Got a call at 8.20 on Friday morning while trying to get DS organised and out the door to go to work to say my downs risk was 1in25. Had to make a decision by 5pm whether to go for amnio or not so it could be done on Monday morning (ie today) Cue long walk with DH at lunchtime. We went for amnio so I am now very sore and very anxious as I have no idea what we will do. A bit scared to discuss it even as I don't want rabid religious types forcing their views on me. DH is a glass half full kinda guy so keeping me sane. No lifting (DS is 2 1/2 so that'll be easy! Ha Ha) and no driving for 48hrs. I have to say that at the moment my bum hurts more where I had the anti-D. Feel very shivery shaky and not sure if I'll forgive myself if I miscarry a normal baby. Didn't realise until today that risk of Downs is 1 in 273 just by being 37 at delivery! This is definatly the last one as can't go through this again.

On a lighter note I'm with pepperrabbit and jess1996, bump has pushed up flab so serious muffin top along with big boobs makes me look fat. I feel I want a T shirt with no I'm not fat I'm pregnant message but wouldn't dare!

SmudgeyDoodle · 12/05/2008 22:16

Oh Rowanmac, tough decision to make and for it to be so pressurised as well. Hope all goes well and good luck with trying not to lift a toddler.
Accessorizequeen, with DS I often had a glass of wine on an evening but this time I just don't fancy it. Perhaps I'll get my taste back for it soon.
Sparkles, glad you enjoyed the drink. ARe the DC safely asleep? We keep getting a 2.30 or 4am wake up call from DS at the moment and I'm sure it's teeth. He has a drink of water, a quick pat and seems to go off again alright. DH turn tonight I think
Lozza, I know what you mean about wanting a t-shirt. My bump is definitely there but still at the flabby stage rather than firm so doesn't look too attractive. I've got a wedding to go to at the end of Sep and am already worrying about what on earth I'll wear. A small marquee perhaps?

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/05/2008 22:25

rowanmac - that's a 96% chance of everything being fine you know .

OP posts:
emkay · 12/05/2008 23:37

Rowanmac - my cousin who is due same day as me (!) had an amnio last week because her results came back 1 in 5. She is fine and so is baby - I'm sure that the glass half full attitude is the right one for now... good luck! Chances are very much stacked in your favour for everything to be fine.

I've also been stupidly worried about not feeling movements having felt them a few days back. We're moving house on Wednesday so I'm sure I've been lifting more than I should have and feel bad that this baby isn't getting the undivided attention and TLC that the first one got while I was pregnant with her... I suppose 2nd, 3rd and so on children do survive despite massive lack of attention but am wondering how the jump from one to two DCs is actually going to work!

sambrads · 13/05/2008 08:35

hello everyone

i have been talking to my cousin at the weekend. she is totally and shocked and finding i hard to come to terms with but hse said she knows it happened for a reason

she also told me that i have to keep in touch with her about my scans and let her know how im doing which will be so hard for her and me to say !!

well on a positive note i felt my first proper KICK on sunday morning and i could not believe it
i thought the kicks did not come till about 25 weeks.

it was so lovely and reassuring i loved it now the baby wont stop kicking about

i went out walking last night and kept feeling like i had to go to the toilet it was awful but i managed to get back alright without any accidents haha

jess1996 · 13/05/2008 08:40

Hello all. I'm 17 weeks today and definitely getting bigger round the middle. Not sure if other people realise I'm pregnant or just think I'm getting a bit fatter .

rowanmac - can I ask if you got the 1:25 statistic from the 16 week blood test? I am still nervously awaiting my results. Hope all goes well for you. How long until you get the results of the amnio?

Is anyone else nervous about their 20 week scan. I had such an anxious first 12 weeks as a result of previous mmc and ep, so after my 12 week scan I felt really reassured. Now I've started to worry that they'll find something terribly wrong on the 20 week scan.

Also, whilst I'm worrying. Is it common to not feel the baby move at 17 weeks. I'm sure I've not felt anything yet.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 13/05/2008 08:53

Hello all.

Glad I am not the only one feeling porky (I am 18wks on thursday) - I have been ostentatiously sticking out tummy and holding my back to demonstrate I am not fat but pregnant (not sure it is working).

I have been feeling movements for a couple of weeks now but only at night as I am rarely still enough during the day with a 2 and 3 yo at home.

Emkay you may well find adjusting from 1 to 2 difficult initially but you will manage just do not refuse any offers of help and make sure the GP's etc. make a big fuss of dc no.1 when the new baby arrives. There is 20 m between my 2 and it was difficult at first but dh and GP's really helped with ds and made a big fuss of him and nowadays dd and ds have a lovely relationship (when not fighting over their toys).

jess sorry you are feeling so anxious but it is understandable from your previous experience. There is always anxiety whatever stage of the pg you are at then once they are born there is a whole new world of worry so I accept it as part of parenting!

Movements are not necessarily felt until later in the pg it depends on the individual I think.

firsttimer08 · 13/05/2008 09:07

I?m 17 weeks too and haven?t felt any movements as yet either. So hoping for some movements soon, otherwise I will go back into the panic mode again, as my next scan is only at 22 weeks ? so 5 weeks to go for that.

Is anyone else still getting nausea? I feel sick every morning on the tube and it takes me a while to get something down. I was hoping once I reach the 16 week mark, it would all be gone, but doesn?t seem like it.

I see lots of ppl are ordering their maternity clothing ! I?m also feeling that I need to start buying. I looked at the Next catalogue and their prices are reasonable, however I?m unsure on the sizes. Is it supposed to be my pre-pregnancy size or what I feel my current size is now?

Jambers99 · 13/05/2008 09:51

Hi firsttimer08 - you should buy maternity clothes in your pre-preg size, the clothes have all kinds of flaps & stretchy bits to cope with your growing bump.

KSal · 13/05/2008 10:55

Hi all

Sorry to hear about the diabetes CSWS fingers crossed it is gestational.

and rowanmac really feel for you having to make that decision so quickly. I am finally going for my triple test tomorrow (am 18 weeks) i'm in two minds about it now. Originally i just wanted to know if anything was wrong so we could prepare ourselves, but now i wonder if i am setting myself up for worrying for the rest of my pregnancy if the likelihood comes back high.

all not helped by being incredibly weepy and up and down... damn these hormones!!

On the positive side me and my husband went to see the midwife yesterday and heard the heartbeat again, he was really chuffed to hear it - was a good moment.

Hi
CSWS you are quite right at 1 in 25, 24 out of 25 will be fine, I allow DH to be right occasionally!.

I did get the result from triple test. Have to say didn't really give it a thought in advance as last time result came back at 1 in 3000 or somesuch.

What I mean by other peoples opinions is that they can be hurtful and muddy the waters when trying to make right choice for us. One of the problems of being older parents is that we won't be around when a Downs child becomes an adult with early dementia and all associated problems or we'll be old and demented too leaving DS to cope with all of it.I work in the health/social care area and see the problems of adults with learning disabilities frequently. I also think one of us would have to give up work as childcare for LD children is nigh on impossible (older parents equals older grandparents too). This means a 50% drop in income for us so big change in lifestyle. We live in a rural village all services and schools for SNS are 14+ miles away in the wrong direction. We are also worried about the effect on DS both as a child with coming second for attention and as an adult being left responsible for a sibling. Having said all that I'm sure if we had too we would cope. As we all know though being a parent can put a strain on any relationship and having an SNS child would be continuous strain.

All a lot less sore today, no cramps since 5am so fingers crossed there won't be a miscarriage. Get results on Friday. I hope to be able to join in on a less serious topic in next post.

1sttimer80 · 13/05/2008 13:34

Rowanmac & your DH, my heart goes out to you and big hugs as this is obviously not an easy time for you.

gem1981 · 13/05/2008 13:44

Rowanmac - just saying that I am thinking of you - well done for being so grounded about it all you are right to think positive!! My mum had an amnio when she was pregnant with me as she had had probs with a previous pregnancy.

I have had my triple screening test as I think the condition they were giving her the amnio for runs in families - not heard back yet though but keepng my fingers crossed!!!

Found out that I have to go for a growth scan at 34 weeks because DS was on the large side(I didn't actually think he was that big - 9lbs 3 oz). The consultant says that if the baby seems to be very big they will offer a CS bt we will wait and see

20 week scan booked in for 9th June.

Jambers99 · 13/05/2008 13:47

Good luck for the results of your amnio Rowanmac, really hope it's a good result and puts your mind at rest. It's such a difficult decision, and you're right that everyone has their own opinion but only you know what is the right thing for you and your family. Keeping everything crossed for you that the results are good and you don't have any more difficult decisions to make.

f1nut · 13/05/2008 14:59

hi all, havnt been on for ages, introduced my self back in begining but then got a bit slack.
19wks today, yay im sooooo xcited, and soooo in love with my big bump, have to keep looking at it, lol.

rowanmac sorry to hear what your going through, we went through the same thing with our first, seding love and hugs, hope all works out xxx

bethoo · 13/05/2008 15:20

afternoon everyone. i am now 19 weeks and a day, still feeling nothing. have scan week today!! a week til i find out if all ok and hopefully the gender!!
went into town and still determined not to buy maternity clothes but could not find any clothes that i liked!!! or would not prob fit in a couple of months as i was thinking of getting long t shirts that would stretch and if they rolled up belly would not be exposed!! may have to give in this year!!
then went to monthercare to look at double buggies and when i told the assistant i was expecting she looked me up and down and said i had ages to go. my denim jacket was covering bump well so she must have thought i had literally coceived yesterday!!

bethoo · 13/05/2008 15:50
