Sambrads. I am so sorry for you and your family. The loss of a baby at any time during pregnancy is a horrible traunatic time. Offer your love and support but be ready for your cousin to stay away from you. When I had my MMc last year my sister was very pregnant. I love my sister dearly but I just could not bear to look at her. When the baby arrived he was so beautiful I loved him. But it is hard to not be resentful.
Thinking of you today.

CSWS, crikey how come they are only finding it now?

Welcome to firsttimer. I trained at Royal Free. I loved it there. Dont worry about full bladder. If they want you to you can always drink water there. Take some with you, just in case.

1sttimer80 · 09/05/2008 11:23

Hi Ronshar, I have heard some stories about Royal free... what is the midwifery care like and any hits or tips?!

saying all that I have been impressed so far with everything.

snowymum · 09/05/2008 13:22

Oh Sambrads I am so sorry - for you and your cousin. All thoughts are with you.

And CSWS - I'm sorry to hear about your potential diabetes. Hope the appt goes well. They can do wonders nowadays with managing it, even if it does turn out to be the case. Fingers crossed it isn't.

07mumstheword · 09/05/2008 15:00

1sttimer Just to say about movement as I've been asking about it, I think it's perfectly normal not to feel anything quite yet. A friend told me last night that she didn't feel anything until 24 wks with her 2nd child but it certainly made up for it then!

1sttimer80 · 09/05/2008 15:41

lol ok thanks for the advice 07mumstheword! Actually another thing, whilst I;m here is baxton hicks, what do they feel like? I got the odd strangle sharp pulling sensation every now and again that come and goes usually on my sides, but not sure what to put this down to... round ligament pain?

annwoo · 09/05/2008 16:54

Hope noone minds if I rejoin this thread. Haven't posted for a long while but have two little ones and their never seems to be time!
1sttimer I have had two babies at the Royal Free. They were very good when I was actually giving birth. Ante natal care is a bit iffy though, but the midwives are incredibly overworked it seems. Didn't receive my booking in appt for my second child until 19/20 weeks.
I don't think you get braxton hicks so early on, I had them with the first around the eighth month, my whole belly area hardened for about 30 seconds. You may as you have diagnosed have ligament pain - there is alot of stretching going on in there!

Sambrands my cousin has also had a mc. We don't see each other often but I really feel for her as they have had problems conceiving.

Me too myjob - little spots of pain in my groin and pubic area, especially when I walk or change gear! I'm sure it's just normal, but yow!

rosebury · 09/05/2008 20:24

Evening ladies so sorry to hear your sad news .

Snowy I am feeling the same as you I have lost all of my fitness have slowed right down and get out of breath quite easily just imagine another ten weeks and we will hardly be able to move but never mind we will get back to it after the birth.

07mums yes I am in bristol bs15 where are you?

Rosebury I'm not sure where BS15 is area wise but I should as I'm BS16 so can't be far away. I'm Emersons Green way.

emkay · 10/05/2008 00:25

Haven't posted for ages but really get a lot from reading everyone's news - we're moving house next week so it's a mad time.

Sambrads - my heart goes out to you and your cousin. My sister in law lives on the same road as us and after much difficulty got pregnant and was two weeks ahead of me but lost the baby at about 8 weeks. I know I wouldn't be as brave as she has been - she has never once made me feel resented. It's such a difficult time for all of you.

I think I can feel some little movements - have no listening device so I'm treasuring each one. Also starting to look a bit bumpish now instead of just flabby, although the flab's still definitely there! Beginning to feel the need for excess pillows in bed even though there's nothing really to prop up yet - long way to go!

We're going for summer holidays in Cornwall and Dorset this year - hanging out for some good southwest weather... I'm more put off travelling further afield by our toddler than by the heat! We brought her back from Australia when she was one and I resolved then not to do another flight until she could watch a 3 hour video in one go!

Emmsy1 · 10/05/2008 08:10

sambrads sorry to hear about your cousin's baby, big

snowymum · 10/05/2008 09:10

Thanks Emmsy, I am coming to the conclusion that the weight will go on regardless of whether I want it to, and I can hardly start dieting! So I promise not to go on about it too much and will try to enjoy things. I am enjoying it, really, and feel quite selfish worrying about my body when it's the health and wellness of the baby I should be - am - thankful for! Rosebury - we'll definitely have to start a 'get back into shape pronto' thread in November! Myjob - I wish I could find something on the net about exactly what happens to what muscles as we stretch and grow and where all our guts and internal organs go - god knows what changes our insides have to undergo but it can't be pretty! If anyone's found anything on the web about how our insides get shifted around, could you share? I'm fascinated!

bethoo · 10/05/2008 09:33

snowymum if you knew what happened internaly you would not have any more babies!! . basically everything gets pushed up and even the heart which ends up getting pushed onto the side so it ikes vertically iykwim?

at parents house and was hoping for lie ins but obviously they have forgotten this and are still in bed while i have not slept as they locked my dog in the back of the kitchen so he was howling all night underneath my bedroom! then Hayden woke at usual silly hours! so i have not slept and they are still in bed! i ahve managed to feed little man, have a bath, get us both ready and walk the dog who has no food so hoping they are gong to get up soon to take me shopping!!

07mumstheword · 10/05/2008 11:09

Emmsy What an awful experience no wonder you've been put off.

Emkay Australia was brave We've only done 2 hour flights up until this year when the whole family went on a 4 hour flight but dd had 5 cousins and Grandparents to keep her entertained and she slept for an hour each way

So we've debated enough and booked a week in Dawlish Warren If the weather is like it has been this last week it'll be fab.

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/05/2008 12:04

Hi everyone. Isn't the weather just glorious? I really ought to cut the grass but I could feel things stretching when I was pushing the supermarket trolley so wonder whether I can plead pregnancy and get DH to do it when he gets back tomorrow. He's been working away this week. Well 'working' as it was the Dominican Republic!!!
Sambrads, I hope you managed to write/phone/text something to your cousin. Lots of people have given you good ideas of ways to let your cousin know you are there for her but understand that it could be difficult. I hope they and you are able to look forwards over the next few months.
CSWS can you have sorbet instead of icecream? I'm very lucky because DS hasn't discovered ice cream yet so I still get to eat a whole one. I'm off out to the park this afternoon to meet up with some friends. Sunhat, suncream and a ball - what more do we need?

snowymum · 10/05/2008 12:30

Bethoo - our HEARTS will lie VERTICALLY!? Oh my god. They don't say these things on the TTC threads!

[clutches heart area, looks worried!]

snowymum · 10/05/2008 12:35

Oh, I meant to say: I woke up this morning and there was a big patch of dampness on the sheets near my chest. My first thought was 'oh my god, the cat's wee'd/dribbled on the bed, gross.' On further inspection, though, it was my boob, which I must have been pressing on in just the right place when I was lying on my side.

Leaky boobs and damp patches, at 19 weeks. Funny.

Also I have my 20 week scan a week on Monday! Wheeee! And next week is really busy at work (including doing a speech to 600 people, gulp) so it should fly by.

Lozza70 · 10/05/2008 18:21

Oh I'm glad other people have been having odd achey pains. I have been telling myself it's just things stretching but I'm a bit of a worrywort so loads of other possibilities have been weighing on my mind.

Went for reflexology this morning which was just fantastic and really relaxing. Followed by a long lunch in a pub garden. For the first time really missed having a drink as on a day as hot as this usually I would partake in a glass of rosey rosey wine Have not managed to get much else done today, maybe be more energentic tomorrow depending on the weather............

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/05/2008 20:43

Smudgey - sadly sorbet is packed full of sugar too, so it's another no go.

Based on what they told me last week, and my blood results so far, think it's safe to conclude that I have some sort of diabetes, so guess I'll have to wait until October to find out for sure which sort.
Ironic since I seem to be feeling better than quite a few of you!

Lovely day today . Had friends from my post-natal group (with dhs) over for a barbecue.
Off to the in-laws tomorrow, as they've just got back from holiday, so a busy weekend in the CSWS household.

Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend too.

bethoo · 10/05/2008 21:17

sorry for freaking out some of the ladies about the heart thing!! i watched it on that series with that professor with the mad hair iykwim? Lord Winston something or other according to my mum.

my tummy hurts when i lie in bed sometimes too and think it is the weight of stretching belly trying to lie on bed too!

1sttimer80 · 10/05/2008 22:33

hi All,

so glad it's not only me feeling the aches and pains! I also feel like I;ve slowed down so much, especially when walking!

Keep looking in the mirror thinking if people would think I'm fat or pregnant think I;m going a bit mad! lol Can't wait to actually look pregnant! I have to rave about the Next maternity clothes, bought a few, they are reasonable in price, not an extensive choice, but for short people like me it's great that they do a short length in trousers etc... they are a godsend for work.. but now it's getting hot (hopefully it stays) I really want to buy some nice skirts, but everywhere i look they are too long any thoughts?

07mumstheword · 11/05/2008 08:19

1sttimer Next is good for maternity clothes and if you have the catalogue there is more choice in there than the shops stock.
Dorothy Perkins can be quite good too. I'm quite short 5' 3" and managed to pick up a couple of skirts there.
H&M have quite a big range but I couldn't find anything for me and there is M&S but I was surprised at how small there range was.

Can you tell I have had a days shopping recently?
