Oh beakas and sugr I was so sorry to hear your sad news, my thoughts are with both your families.

bethoo · 02/05/2008 09:35

oh sugr i am terribly sorry.

iam back at work but considering going home as nausea is back on and i jsut want to sleep til it is gone. it is so hard as dp will not look after ds on his own so even dressing ds is a struggle as have to try and refrain from vomitting on him.

firsttimer08 · 02/05/2008 10:37

beakas and sugr - sorry to hear your news.

perkypopsy · 02/05/2008 11:18

sugr so sorry to hear your news - god this making babies thing is bloody heart breaking!

rosebury · 02/05/2008 11:37

So sorry beakas and sugr it is such a terrible thing to happen to both of you big hugs to both you and your families.

Hope everyone suffering sickness and tiredness feels better soon.

I have my scan next Wednesday I will be 18+3

Moody great news with your homebirth, I have had four babies at home and fully intend to have this one at home as well.

twinklytoes · 02/05/2008 11:39

thoughts with you sugr and beakas

have had 16wk apt this week, heard hb and all seems well. midwife must have been on an off day though - she asked me the same questions over and over again.

scan on 28th may but don't see midwife again until 28wks.

Jambers99 · 02/05/2008 11:40

Oh sugr, so sorry to hear that you've also lost your baby. I can't contemplate how dreadful you must be feeling. As with beakas, I hope you can take some time off and look after yourself. Wishing you lots of luck for a baby in the future.

Had my consultant appointment this morning - 1.5 hours waiting at the hospital for a 5 minute appointment. They did do a quick ultrasound though, so I could see my baby moving around. Quite a relief after all the terrible news on this thread recently - makes you realise you can't be complacent, even after reaching the 12 week milestone.

Anyone got exciting plans for the bank holiday weekend?

It seems most people on this list are having a 16 week appmt with their midwives. I'm only going to have one after my 2nd scan (which is at 22 weeks) and they haven't set up the appointment either yet. Is this normal? Should I try to see them once before - if only to hear the baby's heart beat, given the wave of bad news recently?

Has anyone considering getting a doppler? I was reading somewhere, that there is not enough research to say that its usage (on a regular basis) is safe for the baby. However, it would be a relief to be able to hear the heart beat once every 2-3 days and not have to wait till mid June for the scan !

Aubergenie · 02/05/2008 17:45

I've just logged on after a couple of days and am so sorry to hear the sad news from Beakas and Sugr. Sending you both a big, big hug.

Aubergenie · 02/05/2008 17:53

firsttimer08 - I'm not having a 16 week appointment with my midwife. I had a booking in appointment at about 14 weeks, which was just about filling in lots of forms - no listening to the heartbeat or anything - and I'm not scheduled to go back until I'm 26 weeks. I was quite surprised at how hands off it was. As it's my first I thought there might be a bit more follow up. I know what you mean about wanting to know everything is OK!

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/05/2008 17:58

Firsttimer - I think it varies a lot between health authorities. I had an appointment today at 18 weeks, and have another in 4 weeks time, but I suspect that this is simply because we'll know more certainly by then whether I have gestational diabetes or not, and will need closer monitoring if I have, as I will become a high risk pregnancy.

I have a doppler but hardly use it, and haven't been very successful with it on the last couple of attempts. Hopefully I will get some regular movement soon, and I think that they are fairly pointless after that. I did find it reassuring in my last pregnancy though, having had a mmc prior to that.

pepperrabbit · 02/05/2008 19:14

firstimer, I had a 16 week appt and my next midwife is at 28 weeks with the scan in between at 23, so you're not alone! I do have some glucose tests in between at the hospital but that's in outpatients and you only see a midwife if you fail..
CSWS, 7.5 is our cut-off for GD and they're absolutely arbitrary about it! Home testing isn't too bad, just finger prick tests - I'm surprised you have to go all the way to hospital to learn how to use it - can you not just pick it up and then pop to your doctors for a show and tell?

moodywren · 02/05/2008 19:48

Rosebury - have you had any opposition to a home birth this time round because of the number of pregnancies you've had?

My midwife seems quite happy to do a home birth, but dr and consultant at the hospital were really stressing the increased risks.

rosebury · 02/05/2008 21:11

Hi moody Oh yes it is not just the number of pregnancies but my age 46yrs my midwife delivered my last child now aged 5 so she knows exactly what I think but she wants the opinion of the consultant who I will see on Wednesday the story is quite complex as I HAVE ALrEADY CHANGED CONSULTANTS BECAUSE THE OTHER ONE TRIED TO SCARE ME WITH VERY NASTY HORROR STORIEs sorry caps off and led me to believe that my baby was dying when there was nothing wrong.

The other thing I want is ante natal care done by my midwife and not the hospital I also hope to get this agreed on Wednesday.

I am also taking advice from my local homebirth group and an independent midwife.
I feel very strongly that I am not ill there is nothing wrong with me, i am pregnant.

I could rant and rave on about my experiences of childbirth and the types of intervention that have gone in and out of favour over the last 28yrs, I had my first baby in 1980, sorry I am going to shut up now.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/05/2008 21:16

Deep breath and count to 10 rosebury .

I guess if they have a specialist 'prick trainer' then they want to make use of her pepper .

hedgepig · 02/05/2008 21:20

Rosebury you have a good track record of successfully delivering babies, so why all the fuss!!! If it was your 1st and you were 46 maybe the consultant would have more reason just because there would be no idea how your body would react. GOOD luck hope the new consultant is more sensible.

moodywren · 02/05/2008 22:26

I have just been on the Homebirth website and read their research which stays having had moe babies should not necessarily mean increased risk and that a womens history of pregnancy and birth should be taken into account. So as I have had straight forward births including one homebirth it shouldn't be a problem. Its got to be safer to give birth at home than by the side of the road on the way to the hospital as nearest hospital is about 15 miles away, dh doesn't drive so would have to get PIL who live 35 mins away to take us and one of my labours was only 1hr 10 mins long.

Feel better now I know the facts, all consultant said was that I am higher risk but didn't give me any facts and figures so it has been playing in my mind.

rosebury · 03/05/2008 07:08

Morning ladies I am up very early this morning needed a drink and food at 5am.

Thankyou for your comments more women should trust themselves and believe that they are fully able to give birth with the minimum amount of intervention it is a very small minority that require emergency action.

It looks like it may be a reasonable weekend I am off to the bra shop this morning I bought new bras at easter with plenty of growing room needless to say I have busted right out of them I will limit myself to buying 2 only today and see how things grow the useful thing is that you can wear them on your way up and again after the birth on your way back down. I have had bright red gel put on my toes at least I will have nice feet even if I cannot see them very well. Also had a manicure am off out tonight into town for a meal with friends and dh I will wear high heels for the first time in months new white long length jeans from red herring in debenhams and a nice top really looking forward to being glam again but still no booze since January imagine malibu and coke or vodka red bull and clubbing dancing all night sorry drifted off again dreaming, back now I am going out and will be glam I will need a nap though as I am up so early this morning.

Have a good weekend speak again soon.

pepperrabbit · 03/05/2008 09:45

CSWS - am laughing a lot at the thought of a specialist prick trainer in a maternity unit!

caramelbunny · 03/05/2008 09:53
