midwife - GPs mostly know sweet FA about pregnancy.

OP posts:
beakas · 24/04/2008 14:33

thanks for your help, will check that out

sambrads · 24/04/2008 14:42

went and seen the midwife today for a check up .

the midwife said she would check for the heart beat but not to worry if she cold not find it !!!!

is she crazy if she could not find the heart beat i would have been an emotional wreck

thankfully she found the heart beat and all is well it was so nice to hear it and now i relax a bit now

my scan is on 28th may so i have nearly 5 weeks to wait not good but hey it has to be done

beakas · 24/04/2008 15:45

Sambrads- my scan is the day before yours but am seeing the midwife on Monday..hope I get to hear the heartbeat, am a nervous wreck as it is, any more bad news this week will tip me over the edge! Glad you got to hear yours, how exciting!!What is your due date?

toomuchtimeonline · 24/04/2008 15:58

Hi can I join? I've only just dared venture over from the TTC threads and the odd pregnancy post.. I'm due mid October with my first. I would try and catch up with everything but you lot have been very busy

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/04/2008 16:03

My scan is the same day as yours Beakas. Think there is someone else on the same day too. Was it you perkypopsy?

tmtol - tell me your due date and I'll add you to the stats then do an update.

OP posts:
caramelbunny · 24/04/2008 16:21

Just spent about half an hour catching up after a busy few days with no MNing.

Great news about hearing heartbeat Lozza and glad scans have gone well hansnava and Smudgey.

Welcome to eleta, firsttimer and toomuchtime.

Sorry if I've missed anyone.

Hope dd is recovering jenwa, mine had chickenpox last week and is still a bit scabby.

Don't worry about belly growing firsttimer, it will happen, but with my first pg I could still wear normal clothes til about 20 weeks. Am now 14+2 and trousers fastening fine although I think I look a bit porky.

Really enjoying the sunny afternoons and hoping they last! Off to pick up dd and maybe have a nutritious cornetto...

KSal · 24/04/2008 16:41

it was me CSWS seems like a long way off at the mo

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/04/2008 16:44

Of course. I knew it was someone local!

OP posts:
beakas · 24/04/2008 16:52

it's my 30th birthday that day too. Am now stressing that something will go wrong and will have horrid birthdays for ever more. I am supposed to be running (or waddling) around smiling gleefully, but am instead worried sick. Not sleeping, have stonking headaches and fretting. I would be telling me to pull myself together!!
I can at least find solace in chunky kitkats- as per usual NOTHING affects my appetite!;)

SmudgeyDoodle · 24/04/2008 17:24

Beakas it sounds like you're having a real time of it. Like CSWS says, you should be entitled to maternity allowance as long as you earned more than a certain amount over a period of time so many weeks before babies due date (gosh that sounds confusing, sorry) Basically with DS, I left my job and moved up north when 3 months pregnant but still got maternity allowance because I had worked for the company for quite a while before that...... There's a leaflet from the job centre that explains it much better than me Hope the chunky kitkat helped!
Well, had my booking in today and they've left my due date as 22nd Oct as apparantly only change it if more than 5 days discrepancy. MW did say that she thought they should ban due dates and just have due months instead!
Welcome to new people Firsttimer and toomuchtimeonlineand don't worry about the not expanding bit. I didn't for quite a while last time but will soon be in maternity clothes this time. Next scan not til 16th June!

perkypopsy · 24/04/2008 17:45

Hi Everyone, is it true that lots of movement means a boy cos my little one is leaping around all over the place - have a weird feeling it is a boy anyway...
CSWS You are Liater too aren't you? My 21 week is on 20 May - 4 weeks to go - hooray
beakas I handed in my notice the day before BFP - not the cleverest thing I have ever done but amazingly i think is all going to work okay - am going free lance from June til Sept (as long as I can keep waddling in to work) and they are paying me a packet so I'll just save it all up and pay my own maternity pay :-) and no need to stress about when to go back to work BLISS (trying to put a positive spin on things here

toomuchtimeonline · 24/04/2008 18:15

Hi everyone - CSWS my due date (I think) is 15 Oct..

It's my first time and I am 15 weeks now and I just feel really fat - I look podgy! Had to buy some elasticated waisted trousers - which I don't think bodes well since your stomach muscles are supposed to be stronger with your first

What is everyone using to avoid stretchmarks?

toomuchtimeonline · 24/04/2008 18:17

p.s. how many weeks are the people that can feel movement - I can't feel anything yet..

I've seen other threads where lots of people had very active girl bumps so I'm not sure how much truth there is in the lots of movement means a boy.. but I love old wives tales ..

oliviaelanasmum · 24/04/2008 18:25

Hi can i join? I was unsure of my dates but had a scan today which confirmed that im 13+4 and due on 26th October. I already have 3 daughters, Olivia-Mae 6, Elana-Rose 3 & Maisy-Rae 7 months. Hoping for another girl but dont mind as long as everything is ok! Im feeling some movement and have been since last week, and i found the hb for the first time on my doppler last night. Oh and my scan picture is here

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 24/04/2008 19:07

I have got my scan tomorrow

i think i'm due end of Oct, i hope so as i'll have to change to the Nov thread then and i quite like it round here!

Hope you ladies are all ok x

Aubergenie · 24/04/2008 19:09

I THINK I'm feeling movement now toomuchtime. It's my first so I'm not completely sure, but from time to time I've been getting a little bubbly, tickly sort of feeling below my belly button. I've only noticed it in the last week and I'm 17+2.

Are people still feeling completely exhausted? I went back to school this week and have just been wiped out by the end of each day. Where's this second trimester energy boost I keep hearing about?!?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/04/2008 20:12

Right, stats first, so you all have chance to point out my errors, then I'll read and digest!
For the benefit of newcomers, the 'yes' refers to people having had their 12 week scan.

Cantsleep - i've just seen that coolkat is on there even though she's Nov does that mean if my scan dates say beginning of Nov tomorrow that i can stay on here?? pretty please!![

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/04/2008 20:26

Smudgey/Beakas - there is info about maternity allowance in the 'birth to 5' book that you should receive at your first appointment of your first pregnancy.

PP - yes, I'm Lister too.

tmtol - I'm a firm believer that stretchmarks are a genetic thing - either you will get them or you won't, but none of these stupidly expensive creams will make the slightest difference either way. I have lots of old stretchmarks from growing very quickly as a teenager, but don't think I got any new ones in my last pregnancy, and did nothing to prevent them.

I felt lots of somersaulting one day last week, but haven't really felt anything since. I am now 17+2.

Can't believe it's 7 months already since your request for hyphenated names for your dd3 oliviaelanasmum!

Good luck for the scan sparkles. We'll let you stick around even if you're a bit over . Inevitably some of us will have babies in Sept and some in Nov, but we will stick together through thick and thin!

Aubergenie - I still get tired quite often in the afternoon, but on the rare occasion that I get an hour to nap, I end up not sleeping that night, so am if anything worse off.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/04/2008 20:26

lol - great cross post sparkles!

OP posts:

Thank you!!

Your DD is very cute CantSleep, are you stevenage way or london then if your hospital is lister?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/04/2008 20:40

Thank you . Stevenage Lister. We're near a teeny village about 15-20 mins away.

OP posts:
accessorizequeen · 24/04/2008 22:03

No chance at all to catch up on this thread, sorry. Had first scan Tues and I am having twins. Arrggggghhhhh! I have two ds's already, 4.4 and 16 months. I have no idea how I'm going to cope, it's all very scary.

bethoo · 24/04/2008 22:08

tmtol - used baby oil morning and night with last pregnancy and managed to avoid stretch marks, i think it also helps if you keep weight gain slow and steady.

perky - i beleive the old wives tale that cravings for sweet thinks mean a girl and savoury or lack of sweet cravings is a boy, that is why i am so sure i am having another boy! only time will tell.

sparkles - i was on march thread with my other pregnancy and little man was then induced so had him in feb and stayed on that thread so stay here!!

Aubergine - what you describe certainly sounds like early movements. cute feeling isnt it?
