Longway I don't remember being offered anything but an epidural for my pain with DD. I "KNOW" there are other things out there but at the time I had an old school doc. I guess that should be a topic I cover with my new doc (he's fresh out of med school basically). It's a given, I WILL NEED HELP WITH THE PAIN!! I'm not a wimp just realistic.

I still haven't left the house but at least I've showered. All good things in moderation!!

Just want to butt in about the sugar test. I am in the UK and here it is standard to have a resting glucose test which is just a normal blood test not preceeded by drinking that foul stuff. However, if this comes back with any indication of a problem, or if you have any other problems (like maybe something on the urine dip tests), then they send you for the full monty that you have been talking about.

I am on my third pregnancy with no history of gestational diabetes or normal diabetes in the familiy. I have had three resting glucose tests so far due to my high BMI and all have been fine. I have refused to have anymore. Being overweight is a risk factor, but is not the over riding indicator. They are just so SURE that I will get gestational diabetes just because of my weight.

On a different subject, through all my layers of fat, we are finally feeling the kicks from the outside. My dh was able to feel some last night and the kids had their hands on my belly today.

Ilana I've had the lucozade style test with both my previous pregnancies and I'm in the UK. I suspect it depends where you are.....as usual (I was living in NW London at the time). I have no history of diabetes in the family, gestational or otherwise.

I'm looking forward to my next scan at 21 weeks.....very jealous of everyone who has had theirs already.

Afternoon ladies

Very quiet on here today, don't tell me everybody is actually busy working.

Had bad news today. Blimming mortgage will be going up by £178 per month I was one of these people on a very low fixed rate deal. Grrrr I knew it was gonna happen, but doesn't make it any easier. So been stressing afternoon. Like that's gonna help. Bloody banks!

Shazza Sorry to hear that but don't stress. All you'll get is high blood pressure and a lower bank balance instead of just a lower bank balance.......

It is quiet on here. I keep looking to see if I can divert from work but I really should be getting back to work now!

That's interesting petifilou as I am in an NW postcode too! My last baby was at one hospital (St Mary's) and what I said earlier was standard then (4 yeras ago) and this one is at UCLH where it is also true.

Ilana - Had all my previous antenatal care at the Royal Free and GP (have ds 4 and dd 2.7) so that's the lottery for you...
Who knows what I will get when I move to Oxfordshire in three weeks time...

Great news on your scans, Sazzles & karney!

I had appt with cranio-sacral therapist this morning, overall most reassuring, but has said low in calcium though (am surprised with amount of Special K I guzzle) and generally system a bit sluggish so loads more water and raw veg for me, oh yum yum . She has recommended reflexology every 3 weeks till birth (I'll be broke!!!) and acupuncture immediately beforehand too. So I'll be so blissed out with my therapies the baby will practically walk out of me .

I wish at least one of you was in Ireland.

Re. work I only told my boss yesterday (he's been awol for a bit) and haven't thought about a date for starting leave yet. Tempted to take from end June / early July though.

Sazzles congratulations on another girl. My DH is one of three boys so he's sort of out of his comfort zone too.

Today has turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL DAY!! I've uploaded two pics I just took in our yard, one of DD & our flowering tree and the second of my BUMP. Ladies the belly's GETTING HUGE!!!

had a long day and am tired hence not been on here, girls up early then big tesco shop then visited nursery, went to test drive cars and confirmed that we can't afford them, girls home and am about cream crackered and house a bloody tip

if the womanat the nursery went on once she said a hundred times she couldn't believe I was only 23wks - apparently she never reached the size I am now even when she was full term and how am I going to manage and goodness knows what size am going to be and on and on and on

dh did sway in the car afterwards he was mentally willing her to be quiet as he thought I was going to lose the plot

Hope everyone is good, glad to hear of the good scan reports Sazzles, Karney and Pertelote!

My scan went really well too. Baby was moving around loads (think it was my kitkat! - I paid for mine with money tho Shazza ) When the sonographer went to measure the circumference of the baby's head, I could see his fingers at the side of his head, it looked like he was covering his ears, so cute!! He was opening and closing his mouth a lot so I reckon we'll have another chatterbox in the household - poor DH! I've uploaded my pics to show you all. We didn't find out the sex, they won't tell you here, but I think we saw some boy bits - I think you can see them in the 2nd pic, tell me what you think! We've been referring to the baby as 'he' since DH is so convinced we're having a boy and I hated calling the baby 'it'. I think we may find out at our 3D scan in 8wks, but we'll just keep it between me and DH.

And since we got our new car on Sunday, we?re going to Mothercare on Thursday to try out the pram and see if that and the car seat both fit in the car! I can?t wait!!! Keep me updated with the colours Shazza, I won't be buying the pram right now so will hold on for possible new ones.

I'll update my next appt on the list which is a 24wk midwife appt - yr not alone then dizzy!

to be honest I do look a hell of a lot further on than 23wks but you know, say something once and the reel it in a little?!?!

poor dh didn't know which way to look in his defence. I was very quick to tell her what size the girls were and then she went on about how she'd never met anyone who'd had such babies and even if I don't move the girls over she wants to here how I get on mentioned running a sweepy

damnable thing was I liked the nursery and they have an adhoc policy which might work for us so I have to play nice
