Mummyannabella - thanks for telling me about your grapefruit sized fibroids, makes me feel a lot better about my little golf ball one!!

Just 2 weeks to go to my scan. I had a scan at 8 weeks and all looked well and now I feel like the 12 week scan is some kind of finishing line that I'm trying to get to as quickly as possible. Yet obviously its not, it's a mere staging post!

I'm feeling a lot better today on the MS front. I think it's cos I ate a huge meal of home made lamb rogan josh last night. It had been in the freezer from a party far too long to think about (probably some health issue I should have considered). It tasted fantastic and I've just had some for lunch with chappatis. My kids loved the chappatis and I've promised to cook a kiddie curry for them - a sure sign I'm feeling better. I think I may even do without my nap this afternoon!

Thanks everyone! X

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 13:52

Smiles, that is really lovely news. My friend and neighbour had to go through the daily heparin injections last year. She now has a beautiful baby girl!
Unpasturised cheese is supposed to be avoided, but personally I just avoid mould ripened cheese and blue veined cheese.
Peanut butter is ok if you don't have history of nut allergy in the family.
Had a lovely day out at the museum yesterday. Feeling really tired today!

bubbaz · 09/04/2008 13:53

Great news smiles. So pleased.
Anyone have any remedies for heartburn other than Gaviscon which I hate and rennies which do nothing?

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 13:55

Sorry Bubbaz can't help. I couldn't keep gaviscon down last time. The hospital gave me some pills, but it was right at the end of my pg, so don't think they'd be safe this early on. Poor thing, heartburn is awful.

mad4mybaby · 09/04/2008 13:56

sorry bubbaz but no.

Does anyone know the minimum fluids you need a day to not get dehydrated? Ive had about 125ml today. Just cant stomach any liquid in me. No matter what it is. tried everything. I feel ten times worse if i drink but worried about it

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:00

I think generally it's about a litre or so, but you can get liquids from food, too,of course. Are you able to eat?

Pinkali37 · 09/04/2008 14:02

Have you tried peppermint cordial with water from the kettle?? So warmish. Supposed to do the trick. Also very good at getting trapped wind out and about if you know what I mean!

mad4mybaby · 09/04/2008 14:07

no, ive got gonger cordial but that really makes me want to chunder

bubbaz · 09/04/2008 14:09

thanks pinkali, I was recommended that after c section for the wind . I will give it a go.
Mad - I googled it and it recommends you drink around 3 pints a day but doesn't say anything about what to do if you are struggling to drink. It must be awful I really feel for you - Are you managing to eat more?

lackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2008 14:17

I used to work in a cheese shop and our advice was that hard cheese is fine whether pasteurised or not, so parmesan is OK, but that all soft and mould ripened cheeses should be avoided, also whether pasteurised or not, unless it's been thoroughly cooked. Sheeps milk cheese (and perhaps goat as well) is bad too as sheep are carriers of toxoplasmosis in their gut, so unpasteurised sheeps cheese is a definate NoNo.

the chances of listeria infection from any cheese, even unpasteurised mould ripened cheese, is very low though (in five years of working there we only ever had one cheese batch that was infected), so I suppose it's a risk thing and whether you are prepared to take it.

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:18

If you can't eat or drink it could be time to go to the GP and try some buccastem or something?

lackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2008 14:18

mad, have you tried flat lemonade? my mum used to swear by it for sickness and it seems to work.

i just made beans on toast for lunch and it was like eating cardboard. I only managed a few mouthfuls before i thought I was going to chuck up. salt'n'vinegar crisps for me for lunch then

Creena · 09/04/2008 14:25

Feta, mozzarella, ricotta are all fine to eat because they are all pasteurised. Try this link to eating for pregnancy. I've always found it a really useful site. The link takes you directly to the cheese page but it's worth having a look at the other stuff on the site too.

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:25

Haven't been able to open a tin of beans since I got pg. Poor DD- they are her favouritte thing!
mad- have you been taking just really tiny sips at a time?

Pinkali37 · 09/04/2008 14:26

Yes i've heard of flat lemonade or warm coke!!! NHS direct even advise it for children feeling sick

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:28

flat coke with extra sugar if you can't eat is supposed to neutralise some of the acidity.|

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:31

I used to work in a cheese shop, too! Many many moons ago.

Pinkali37 · 09/04/2008 14:42

Good site Creena!!

I just keeping thinking that our parents didn't have all this advice and we are all ok (well apart from the obvious problems )

serendippity · 09/04/2008 14:43

mad4 I agree with flat coke and a little extra sugar, it has worked with dd before and that is a small mirical (sp!) (loong story dd's tummy bus are legendary, she's even been hospitalized)
Also if you do decide to brave water make sure it is luke warm not cold or it will chill the stomach.
Poor you
MS not too bad today, attacking fruit again and just had a big bowl of frosted wheats (desperatly trying to drink milk!)
However i am utterly knackered, poor dd is going stir crazy so after we have walked the dog i have promised to take her to the park. I definatly get some sort of award for this don't i?

lackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2008 14:50

i loved my wee cheese shop pinky...as much cheese as you could eat on a daily basis..fantastic

I'm not winning any parenting awards today. While I've been MNetting, DD had crawled through to the other room, unravelled a roll of kitchen paper Andrex puppy style, then hooked a bag of milky bar mini eggs off a shelf which should be too high for her to reach and has eaten at least three of them, maybe more . She had one in each fist as well, and I've just had an almighty screaming hissy fit from her when I took them away.

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:51

Pinkali Guinness for iron, smoking for morning sickness, both my dad and mw smoking in the room whilst they were fixing up the gas and air for my mum for homebirth! MUm herslef did actually give up smoking when pregnant, though. They sent her homefrom hospital when my brother was born with a huge can of carnation milk to feed him on.

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 14:55

lack
Full fat cream cheese with herb de provence olives on fresh vienna rolls.. very diet.It was a wonder I fitted behind the counter!
DS has watched the same mickey mouse cartoon at least six times whilst I've been on here.

Emmanj · 09/04/2008 15:09

hi all, just checking in.... great news smiles! I am now totally with the salt and vinegar crisps thing, never used to like them but just bought a huge grab bag all for self!mmmmmmmmm
Id love to eat cheese as its usually my fave but i seemed to have developed aversions to anything dairy, bleurgh!

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 15:14

Not eating that now, we were reminiscing about cheese shops.
