Morning girls,

hooray it's friday and I'm on annual leave all next week... although won't be too restful as BIL, SIL and their DD arrived for a visit for the weekend, and then we're getting our bathroom replaced from wednesday. DH is being weirdly optimistic that the plumbers won'

t leave us without functioning facilities, but I am less than convinced! Still, better to get it out the way now than once baby has arrived.

We haven't settled on a girl's name yet, boy's is decided on but who knows, might change our mind in the event! my Dad is still hoping that we'll choose his favourite name for a boy which is, rather strangely, Gavin. Her's going to be disappointed though...

Makecakes and sophie, sorry you're having such problems with SPD, hope the physio helps!

We had our 2nd AN class last night, has anyone else had to watch a video about entenox featuring Keith Chegwin? It was truly one of the funniest things I've ever seen, with Cheggers interviewing a woman well into labour with questions like
Cheggers: "So is it helping then?"
Woman: "Yes" (with death stare saying go away you annoying little man)
Cheggers: "Is this your first?"
Woman: no, it's my third...(piss off)
Cheggers: oOo what did you have before?
Woman: 2 boys (please go away before I have to hit you)
Cheggers: So you'll be wanting a girl then?
Woman: ...(Appears speechless)
Cheggers: Well, I'll leave you to get off then(?!)

insightful and fascinating, yes?

Needless to say, I have now added to my birthplan that as well as no medical students, under no circumstances is Keith Chegwin allowed near me.

sorry, epic post. am over excited at access returned to MN and pending week off work!

Morning ladies, I have my 32 weeks appt today with GP... am hoping she'll be able to help me get Bug to turn around as I am pretty sure he/she is still breech - I know there is still plenty of time, but I like to be prepared early

Had a lovely dinner out for my b'day last night - got to the restaurant and found a big group of friends there - DP had organised the whole thing. There were quite a lot of opportunites for me to have guessed - but my baby brain made think nothing of it, so didn't twig - until I was practically on top of the table with all our friends on it! A lovely surprise!

sophiewd · 11/04/2008 10:44

Glad you had a lovely birthday Nettie.

Take me away from this computer, This morning have bought 2 Mason Pearson hairbrushes, one for me and one for DD and a Yummy Mummy changing bag, Just thinking it is so nice to treat us as has been a struglle finacially for the last few years na dnow everything is good.

ernest · 11/04/2008 10:46

laurat - pmsl - cheggers?wtf, the poor woman must've thought she was inhaling something stronger than gas & air! 2 boys - you'll be wanting a girl then - grrrrrr. I'll seriously puch anybody that says that to me again. Am dreading the reactions I get when I finally have it. They will be annoying and irritating whether I have a boy or a girl. Bot - oh well, never mind, as long as he's healthy, are you disappointed/don't you mind etc etc. If it's a girl - at last, a girl how wonderful (ie thank god it's not another boy) you must be so pleased. ARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

etc etc.

tchinically Deb - it's 4.5 hours . (dh's fault suggestion. We're hoping the walk to the woods will take a good half hour each way, then we have to make a fire (will need to bring wood with us as it'll all be wet through now). I intend to sit on my bum and make dh suffer. (must remember to bring a seat, as don't want wet bum). It has stopped raining for now...

goingfor3 · 11/04/2008 11:15

Bloody midwife!!!! I saw her this morning and mentioned that baby has been a bit quieter than previously for the last couple of days as it hasn't been spinning round in circles like it was before. She told me that I needed to feel 10 movements a day and if I didn't I needed to call labour ward to be monitored, I told her that I really felt everything was fine. I just looked in my notes and she has written "dismissed importance of fm's". Maybe I should have gone wide eyed and panicked and demanded to have been put on a monitor straight away, I didn't dismiss what she told me I just didn't feel corncered that it was moving less than a few days ago because I am still getting regular movements. Oh she really annoyed me!!!!!!!

LauraT · 11/04/2008 11:22

goingfor3 stupid midwife! I set the curse of Keith Chegwin on her.

goingfor3 · 11/04/2008 11:26

LauraT I know where she lives so maybe I should hire him to stand on her street with a tannoy!

LauraT · 11/04/2008 11:51

that should do it! I think we should appoint Keith Chegwin as unofficial mascot of our due in June thread, as he is clearly a font of knowledge on matters relating to childbirth! We can set him on anyone who annoys us. In fact, I could set him on the physio at AN class last night who told me off for not having my tea before the class. I work 30 miles away, finished at 5 and had to get through the middle of the city centre to get there for 6, I was lucky to get there at all, never mind stopping off to have dinner on the way. Cheggers can get her too!

Rolf · 11/04/2008 11:55

lol at Keith Chegwin. I bet the woman thought he was a figment of her entonox-addled mind . Yes, another thing to add to the birth plan. Mine now pretty much says "F* off and leave me alone to get on with it". But with more specifics and less swearing.

Goingfor3 - what a ridiculous thing to write on your notes.

Nettie - glad you had a good birthday.

Sophie - I'll do my spending vicariously through you! I am flat broke at the moment.

Ernest - I found it really irritating when DD was born (after 2 boys) when people said how pleased I must be to have a girl at last. And this time they are saying "bet you hope it's a girl so you have 2 of each". grrr.

Makecakes - those names are lovely - really really pretty. I've written out all the names I like (there are about 20!) and will give the list to DH with columns for No Way/Possibly/Comments.

Deb - lol at Audi . I bet it's something really unexceptional like House. Or sleazy like Station Waiting Room. Or scarily offbeat like Wormery. sorry...

Yet another awful night with DD so I'm hysterically knackered today.

whinegums · 11/04/2008 12:06

Hi everyone, just been lurking this week as not much going on, but I just have to say - KEITH bloody CHEGWIN!!! Despite all of my labour fears, I think that would be the most horrific thing to deal with! That poor woman.

Starting 'parentcraft' (rubbish name) classes on Monday, may as well have another opportunity to be scared senseless.

I'm 30 weeks today, feels like the monster has his head under my ribs, which is forcing me to try and sit up straight.

Hope you're all having a good day and looking forward to the weekend.

LauraT · 11/04/2008 12:23

You might get the video too! (you're in Glasgow aren't you?) it was a week 2 special though, so hang in there! worth sitting through the incredibly patronising rest of the class for! - we had to split into groups of girls and boys and write lists on a clipboard of things we're going to gain and things we're going to lose when baby arrives.

My monster is also headbutting me in the ribs, I've tried asking nicely but there's no shifting it!

needahand · 11/04/2008 12:28

Hi ladies

I recall a few of you complaining about heartburns. What do you do about them. I have had some for about 10days now but it seems to be getting worse so I think I should do something about it. Any tips?

Oh and I am probably very dumb but I don't know who Keith Chegwin is

LauraT · 11/04/2008 12:52

needahand

this is Keith Chegwin 80s kids TV presenter extrordinaire.

whinegums · 11/04/2008 13:03

Needahand - lucky you - your life will not be enriched by the addition of Cheggers!!!

LauraT - I will be disappointed if I don't get to see the vid now... My class is mums only - couldn't get onto partners one - and I hope there are no clipboards! I only want to know a) what drugs I can have and how much and b) how not to cause a new baby serious damage. Can't bear patronising at the best of times. Go on, tell us what you put on your list of gains and losses!

katyjo · 11/04/2008 13:12

Pmsl at keith chegwin Laura!! I must add to my birth plan he is definately not allowed in. Though thinking about it maybe I should make a list of all the people I wouldn't want in the room ....that could take a long time!

Makecakes I wonder if your baby has engaged, sounds like a good sign to me, according to my book first babies engage about 2-4 weeks before birth so maybe you haven't got long to go!!

Loving everyone's names very jealous. At the moment dh like Zara for a girl and Logan for a boy and I like Libby and Zach although not sure if I should be calling them Elizabeth and Zachary on birth cert but don't like these names nearly as much.

whinegums · 11/04/2008 13:21

Needahand - also meant to say about heartburn - the only thing that has worked for me is Mucogel, on prescription - I've been getting through two big bottles between m/w appointments. None of the over the counter stuff, or natural remedies touched it!

LauraT · 11/04/2008 13:22

whinegums our list of things we're going to lose was an awful lot longer than the gains one... I think we were all trying to hard not to be twee and sickly! my personal favourite gain was the opportunity to go to the mums and baby cinema screenings at our local cinema... although personally I think the OAP one sounds better - you get a cup of tea and a biscuit! The blokes had put down fascinating things like losing time in the pub abd at the football! mainly we all just sat around looking embarrassed and hoping the madwife would come back and get on with it... little did we know that when she came back it would be time for Cheggers! - I think you should make a special request for it - surely these things should be city wide so we can all share in the joy of Cheggers!

katyjo lovely names, if you aren't keen on Zachary, I know someone who's wee boy is Zach shortened from Issac (sp?)

goingfor3 · 11/04/2008 13:26

Alot of great names are being mentioned on here!

I just got a call confirming me and dd1 are having an all expenses paid trip next week with two nights in a hotel. It will be really nice for the two of us to go away together for a couple of days. That has amde me feel happier after the midwifes silly comment in my notes!

makecakesnotwar · 11/04/2008 13:29

Cheggers- maybe they should put that video on loop whilst you are in labour- it'd make me get through it a lot quicker!!!

Heartburn- am weird I know but like the chalky tablets by Bisodol...I don't like mint flavoured things (even toothpaste) and they do a fruit flavour which seem to do the job. I quite like the chalky thing tbh. They've replaced creme eggs in my affections (never thought I'd hear myself say that!)

Having a rest day today as have to get into London tmorrow for my baby shower. Feel utterly icky, but doing very odd things like scrubbing the carpet and hoovering out drawers, making sure that I have hospital bags (one for me, one for baby cakes and one for DH) ready.

PiggyPenguin · 11/04/2008 13:32

g43 - what a stupid thing for your mw to write, I would be really annoyed.

Keith Chegwin, what a horrible and scary thought, as if labour isn't bad enough.

I'm off out for dinner tonight to celebrate a friend's fortieth. They are the mums I meet at my 'first mothers group' 7 years ago and we all get on really well and try to meet up most weeks. Tonight though, I am going to be looking like a whale in the new dress I bought for the occasion (half price sale on at the moment at blooming marvellous) while they are all going to be thin and glamourous, and planning to go on to a club afterwards. I will just be pleased if I haven't fallen asleep at the table by the end of the meal, I can't remember the last time I saw midnight!

goingfor3 · 11/04/2008 13:32

makecakesnotwar reading your message has made me feel really stupid ! I have my hospital bag pack, everything is stuff into one over full bag - why didn't I think of seperating the bags for me and baby, it's not like I have a great bag shortage!!!!

needahand · 11/04/2008 13:32

oh right thanks Laura. Isn't he the guy who runs round peoples' house with a cheque in the morning for GMTV or something? His face is familiar. He shouts a lot doesn't he. I feel I have to explain myself and reveal my little secret now. I am not english so anything before 1995 I probably wouldn't know.

whinegums might try over the counter stuff and if it doens't work will ask for mucogel next time I see my doctor (which might be soon considering I am due to have my test results back today)

G43 sounds great, where are you off to?

goingfor3 · 11/04/2008 13:34

needahand somewhere in essex so nowhere exciting but it will be nice not to have to worry about tidying and cooking!

nettiehay · 11/04/2008 13:51

needahand I've found the plain gaviscon works wonders... I've little bottles everyewhere - on my desk at work, in about 3 different handbags, on the bedside table... and I now go for the swig straight from the bottle - none of this measuring stuff for me! After the months and months I've had it, I'm an old hand at heartburn!

GP visit went well - measured 33 cms and all normal. I asked about my increase in freckles on my hips and belly - apparently it's normal... just not one of the things they tell you about pregnancy! Bit of a nightmare getting to and from the surgery - an accident has closed the one way system in the centre of Kingston, so all the roads are gridlocked, so ended up walking almost all the way there and all the way back... I am now offically knackered! I'm hoping it is all cleared up by the time I want to go home from work - I don't think I could do that walk again!

thegreenfairy · 11/04/2008 14:03

G43 - is she your regular MW? If not, dare you cross it out? Or complain? That is just bloody ridiculous - am angry for you.
Reminds me of when I told my MW I would probably have the odd glass of wine while pg, cue intake of breath, shake of head and 'intends to drink' written in my notes, like I had a bottle of vodka sticking out of my bag or something.
People and their bloody power trips!
