For those of us with 3 months to go or less....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello everyone .
Sorry you're feeling bad, PP. The others have given good advice, I think.

Had my 31/32 week appointment today. The baby was lovely and wriggly but was transverse-ish. Kind of a 4.50 position, with the head lower than the feet. I'm still measuring big but as the midwife put it, that's just becuase there's loads of room in there . So now I can fret about my flabby uterus .

Over the next few weeks she's going to talk to me about a contingency homebirth plan, in case I don't get to the hospital in time. The only spontaneous labour I've had (DS2) we barely made it to the hospital, so it's a risk I need to take into account.

bitofadramaqueen · 10/04/2008 17:26

PP - I go through the same feelings too! I miss my friends/social life but the idea of spending the evening in the pub exhausts me. People treat me different although inside I'm just the same. I look in the mirror and see a lardy version of myself (my bump size is spot on, but I stress about my thighs etc). I get the impression its really normal though. I'm really happy and excited about the LO but occasionally everything gets on top of me and I have a good cry/rant on here/rant at my DH.

Hope you feel better soon, we can start a 'June mums getting in shape' thread in a few months to sort us out! Really encouraging to hear from all the other folk on here who've been through it and lost the extra pounds.

needahand · 10/04/2008 17:49

Honestly ladies the pounds will be the least of your worry when the LO comes. You wil wear them with pride! But yeah we'll start a getting in shape thread. Sometimes I think my belly is going to explode because it is so big and tight (I feel as big as I was with DD at the end although I am sure I will get even bigger!)

Rolf · 10/04/2008 18:18

I actually started thinking the other day about ways to get into shape afterwards. Bit premature, I know, but I felt that I was at least thinking positively. Long walks is always a good way of keeping things low-impact - if you're breastfeeding anything too bouncy isn't a good idea. And I know my pelvic floor won't be up to it for a while!

My DH has difficulty in getting home at fixed times and I get very stressed out if I don't know where I stand - so I can't plan to go to classes etc as I literally don't know when he'll be home until I see him. So I wondered about hiring a machine to use at home. DH isn't keen as they take up so much space but I think I'd present it as a fait accompli, giving him the option of organising himself enough to get home and mind the children so I can get to classes/gym.

Has anyone else got no idea about names? I have suggested loads to DH but he doesn't like them and is having trouble thinking of any that he likes to offer as alternatives. We end up giggling over silly names instead of really focusing on it. With the other children they've been named pretty much as soon as they've arrived - certainly in the delivery room - and I'd really like to do the same thing this time.

goingfor3 · 10/04/2008 18:31

Rolf we only settled a couple of days ago on a boys name and that will be Oscar, if it does infact turn out to be a girl then she will be Matilda which I had chosen before I even got pregnant. Boys names have been realy hard to choose so glad I have found one we both like!

Rolf · 10/04/2008 19:05

They are both lovely names . Would you use a short form of Matilda or stick with Matilda?

goingfor3 · 10/04/2008 19:12

I think I would stick with Matilda but if it was shortened I quite like Millie. DD1 has quite a long name and everyone uses it but dd2 is known by her shortened name and I find it really odd when people use her proper name.

Rolf · 10/04/2008 19:27

My DD is Harriet and we call her Hattie. The boys have very conventional names - think top 10, apostles names. I like some Shakespearean names but I'm really having trouble getting even an idea of what DH likes.

bitofadramaqueen · 10/04/2008 19:28

Nice names rolf. I know a Matilda who is known as Tilly which is also pretty.

makecakesnotwar · 10/04/2008 19:32

PP- you are not the only one. It's a lot to get your head round.

I second (or third or fourth) the getting in shape thread. I made the mistake of weighing myself yesterday...and swear my cellulite has stretch marks.

Love your names G43. We are having a girl called Cecily- CJ for short.

Re: the move, I'm waiting until I've seen the obstetrician on Monday. If they want to deliver early, then the move date won't interfere...although have already told DH if I move whilst in labour, I don't really care...we have been trying to move longer than I have been pregnant. Plus I'm a naive first time parent who keeps saying 'how hard can it be?' I grew up moving round a lot (army brat) and mum always managed...she's likely to be here to help, I'll have packers and am horribly organised. It can't go too wrong, right????

I think that my bump has dropped...a lot more space to breathe, and feel quite heavy in the pelvic area. Is this a sign??

PregnantPenguin · 10/04/2008 19:42

Goingfor3 - I love the name Oscar. If we have another boy (hark at me, one moment moaning about being pregnant, the next I'm planning the next time!), that's what I want to call him. I found boys names much easier than girls.

Makecakes - Feeling much better now, thanks. It's all a bit overhelming though. Thankfully I couldn't reach the scales this morning and have decided that I am not going to weigh myself until I finish work at the earliest (another 5 weeks to go ). It'd be too dangerous to my mental health.

In the very unlikely event that our mortgage is approved, we're due to move a few days after my due date. Like you, part of me thinks we could do it....so I'll join you in that naive first timers club.

Waiting to hear more from everyone what bump dropping means...

bitofadramaqueen · 10/04/2008 19:44

PP - am so jealous that you've found boys names easy. We're finding boys names really difficult!

No idea about dropping bumps though.

sophiewd · 10/04/2008 19:47

Rolf - tried to run Oscar past DH, was okish then a friend of mine and his wife called their so Oscar and although we really don't see them she is the type of person who would say we had copied them and tell all and sundry so.....

Sebastian Wilfrid Joseph

and in the unlikely event its a girl, Agnes

PregnantPenguin · 10/04/2008 19:57

I like Sebastian too. I'm not allowed to tell anyone our buys names, but this isn't RL, so we're going for Ryder. Haven't come up with a middle name yet though. Possibly something old fashioned and solid like James so if he doesn't like Ryder, he can use that. Also quite like the sound of RJ.

A girl would have been Georgia.

OP posts:
sophiewd · 10/04/2008 19:59

That's lovely, sadly because I cpme from a male dominated family all the good solid names that we both liked have already been pinched.

Rolf · 10/04/2008 19:59

Agnes and Cecily/Cecilia have both been rejected by DH . I love them both.

poppy34 · 10/04/2008 20:15

good idea re fitness thread - I've been doing pilates/walking a bit which helps with posture but not sure how much use it'll be re helpign shift baby blub.

Had 2 humiliating moments today -firstly my black work maternity trousers will no longer fit over the bump so into even bigger trousers. Then got asked by security guard if I wanted to go through the side gate (not the little turnstile).. Was very embarassed (although apparently someone said this was due to health and safety issue where some pregnant lady got stuck).

still feeling huge as lolling on sofa propped up with pillows like a beached whale but baby kicking like a good un so dont mind really.

Got a couple of little girls names but dh and I still waivering between 2 . At the moment it has a nickname after its place of conception - I keep calling her that and think of her as this name which is not good as the name is EXTREMELY embarassing

debinaustria · 11/04/2008 06:21

Good morning from a very warm Austria at the moment.32 weeks today - only 8 weeks to go

Poppy - you'll have to tell baby's nickname now or we'll have to start guessing

ernest · 11/04/2008 07:32

morning all.

I'm 30 weeks today, only 8 weeks to go

Due to my cold I've had only about 5 hours sleep fot the lest few nights and am now half dead. Done so much this week (nearly finished the Keller, got the play room and utility room to look forward to today) Chucked out 8 bags of rubbish yesterday (including quite a lot of 'illegal' stuff - jars of old screws (?), old medecine bottles eg, really couldn't be arsed to empty out the contents of dozens of little bottles. Normally very hot on recycling, down to taking the cardboard off the yoghurt pot and sorting sep. There are also big fines for recycling/rubbish infringements, but sorting through 8 bags full, ,,, I sinned and chucked. And ran.

Getting a real pain in my lower bump now, not sure what that means, or nothing at all prob.

Names are a problem here - I love Patrick, but dh declared it too Irish. (Isn't at all over here). I also like Peter, but it's fil name, so dh has vetoed it too. So I'm erring as 3rd choice to Lawrence, but dh unsure. For girls, I love Mary, but dh has declared it too religious. 1st place girl's name last time was Adele, but not sure I like it any more (so lucky we didn't have a girl). Up until recently I liked Jennifer, but am put off by a couple of slebs with this name. Not sure it 'grabs' me enough.

Latest fear is going into spontaneous labour before scheduled section date (esp in middle of night) and not knowing a soul to sk to look after the boys. Yikes.

And finally - Deb, is it really warm in At? We've got our party in the woods tomorrow and it's been p*ing down relentlessly for 3 days solid. OMG! contingency plan for 20 boys for 4 hours anyone?

sophiewd · 11/04/2008 07:52

Hello all,

SPD really getting me down, can't do anything really except cook breakfasts and keep books up to date, luckily DH does rooms for me, have a MW appointment next week so will see where we are physio wise.

The sun is shining here but duw to get manky later, sorry Ernest no idea.

Rolf · 11/04/2008 07:57

Ernest - Mary is on my list too, although not on DH's (too Catholic ). I haven't mentioned Jennifer to him but I have been looking at that one. I really love Clara (my motehr was Claire) but DH thinks it's like something from a Western. In the past he's dissed Patrick as too Irish (I'm of Irish extraction).

DS1's middle name is Lawrence - great name.

Poppy - the nickname can't be as silly as what I'm now imagining. Is it Behind the Shed? On the Table?

goingfor3 · 11/04/2008 08:29

lol at guessing Poppy's choice of nickname Rolf!

makecakesnotwar It is so much more comfortable when the baby drops! DD1 didn't drop until a week before she was born but she dropped the day I had my cervical suture out so maybe she couldn't drop sooner. DD2 didn't drop until I was in labour and this one likes to jump up and down, yesterday my bump was really low and now it's high again!

makecakesnotwar · 11/04/2008 08:53

Thanks G43- I've been reading the books but can't seem to find anything that tells me whether dropping is normal or not....

Patrick a very popular name with ladies- can't use it unfortunately as was the name of the boy I had the biggest crush on when I was 16, a boy (now man) who by the strangest of coincidences is friends with a friend of ours....We had George for a boy.

Cecily's full name will be Cecily Jean Olivia- CJ for short. Not telling anyone in RL until she is born, but mum knows and have told her if she calls my daughter Sissy once more, I will be forced to call her Grandmama.

Send big hugs to Sophie- confess I sat and sobbed last night with SPD. DH away with wrk and I almost called him and told him to come home (not likely given that it was 10.30 and he was in Cardiff.) Holding on for obstetrician appointment on MOnday.

Rolf- know what you mean about DH unpredictable hours. I chose NCT that required the least commitment from DH in terms of hours...and it doesn't start until 8pm, so he should make it. Unless he's in Cardiff or Manchester or Birmingham...I fully expect to look like a single mum at least once!!

Morning all

sophiewd · 11/04/2008 08:57

Oh makecakes, got stuck upstairs yesterday, stripping a bed, DD downstairs on her own and DH walking dog, tears pouring dopwn face, luckily she didn't get into trouble.

debinaustria · 11/04/2008 09:12

Well Ernest it was hot yesterday, and I mean hot, air conditioning on in the car, having to stop for emergency ice cream etc... Just done loads of washing to dry outside and today looks decidedly dull and much cooler. 4 hours are you mad?????? Th treasure hunt I did at Stefan's party went down well, but if you have to do it inside would it make too much mess in your newly decluttered house? I'll have a think about any other ideas.
Names I can't help you with as we have no ideas either.
Spontaneous delivery in the night - worst case scenario would be taking the boys with you I suppose like our friends had to. You're just going to have to be sooooo nice to your new neighbours when you get to Munich!!!

Makecakes and Sophie - sorry to hear SPD is getting you both down, hope your appointments next week bring some relief.

Maybe Poppy's baby was conceived in the car Peugot, Fiesta, Audi??????

Anyone else "grazing" - i.e eating whenever
you pass the kitchen, today I've been so healthy, breakfast #1 Sugar puffs(that's Ernest's fault), #2 slice of toast with choc spread, and then Mil is baking cakes so just had to try one....
