For those of us with 3 months to go or less....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

from website re: cheeses. it also says you can eat them if they're thoroughly cooked through though!

Why can't you eat runny cheeses when you're pregnant?

In order to avoid the risk of listeriosis pregnant women are advised to avoid eating ripened soft cheeses of the Brie, Camembert and blue-veined types, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised.

This is because ripened soft cheeses are less acidic and contain more moisture than hard cheeses, and are therefore more inclined to allow growth of undesirable bacteria such as Listeria, which may harm your unborn child.

You can enjoy hard cheeses such as Cheddar and Cheshire. Cottage cheese, processed cheese and cheese spreads can all be safely eaten during pregnancy.

nettiehay I don't know. It is started to worry me a bit though. Can't remember what the reason why the first time round and I could see how sometimes there might be a glitch and the tests need to be redone, but three times?? Should ask Laura if it happens a lot. Don't know what "inconclusive" means either. Surely either it is positive or negative or am I too black and why. I don't even know what it is they are looking for with those tests. No one explained anything to me

needahand · 17/04/2008 13:10

dylansmum oops seems like I should stop eating camembert and Brie, although at 30 weeks it might be a bit late. I thought because it was pasteurised that I was ok .

Re breastfeeding tops. Same advice as above, I thought that one or two were enough for when you go out. They make things really easy and are very discreet to use.

Thanks dylansmumplusone I have had some cooked brie etc, but looking forward to enjoying a nice cheeseboard.

Right, we need to get cracking on a name for new thread. Shall we go with josey's idea.

needahand - try not to worry about your tests, its rubbish that you've had to have them done 3 times.

needahand · 17/04/2008 13:13

sounds good to me!

bitofadramaqueen · 17/04/2008 13:14

Right I'll set it up. Back in a tick with a link.

bitofadramaqueen · 17/04/2008 13:17

here we are with a new thread to see us through...

whinegums · 17/04/2008 13:20

DQ - are you talking about Mellis's perchance? One of my friends lives near to the Glasgow one, and has instructions to bring me the stinkiest bluest oozingest cheeses as soon as I have put the gas and air down.

SPD sounds like a nightmare, huge sympathy to everyone suffering.

Ernest - don't know how you do it. I hope your house sale works out, I am sure it will in the end.

I'm just back from the dentist - gums not as bad as I thought, but have a couple of trips to the hygienist over the next few weeks, and a wisdom tooth extraction to look forward to. Lovely dentist though, and as she pointed out, I may as well have the extraction done now when I haven't got my hands full, and I certainly don't want toothache with a baby around.

Breastfeeding tops - not going to bother getting any in advance - planning on using bump bands to cover up flabby gut whilst howking norks oot! (But not in public for months!!!!!!!!). Have a bf 'workshop' lined up in a few weeks time, it can't be worse than my antenatal class! DP intrigued with this one....

bitofadramaqueen · 17/04/2008 13:21

I am indeed! It has the best cheeses. Mmmm.

See you on the new thread!

Upsidedowncake · 17/04/2008 13:44

Fab for opening new thread - where would we be without our Mumsnet?

Needahand, I've had 'inconclusive' for various tests. In my experience, it can actually mean a number of things .. It can mean that they don't have enough of whatever they need to assess what they're looking for; it can also mean that the sample is contaminated in some way. And my experience is also that it can be code for 'someone dropped the sample' or 'someone lost the sample'... !

Cheeses, bizarrely, I am 'off' all but hard cheeses anyway.
