Its worse when you have your second. Everyone has told me you don't see the MW as often. You miss out a few appointments.

cococat · 08/04/2008 11:05

Thanks everyone for the reassurances about the appointments and stuff - sorry kayz hadn't realised it was an appt you had not a scan. Anyway I feel better now Smile

cazcaz · 08/04/2008 12:48

Welcome hiccymapops and congratulations!

Feeling slightly queasy and very tired today, but thats probably because I didn't sleep well last night rather than anything else!

It does seem a long wait untill the twelve week scan, but hopefully it'll go quite quickly for us. I haven't been to the doctors about it yet, but have made an appointment for next week. My DS2 has a genetic condition and is always at the bloody doctors so hate going for me, staff know me by first name etc.

mibbes, are you having your scan today? Good luck and fingers crossed you'll see your little bean.

mibbes · 08/04/2008 12:57

PMSL at Bisou on "spew-watch" ! I haven't had another episode since yesterday, am willing it to happen though as it will make me feel more PG IYSWIM.
cococat we are going to have to tell family about PG at 9 weeks so I plan to go for a private scan around then to check all ok before we tell them (was going to do this anyway but even more determined now after bleed). The clinic in Edinburgh charges £65 for a 7-11 week scan called a 'reassurance scan'. I have my MW booking in appt tomorrow (apparently I'll get bloods and loads of family health questions). I won't get a NHS scan until 12-14 weeks though.

Thanks ladies for asking after me, you are a lovely bunch Smile. I called EPU this morning and the lady said they wouldn't give me anti-D until 12 weeks anyway so no need to go in. Then had a (TMI alert!) brown watery wipe later this morning so called them again and was told this is fine, "we only worry about fresh blood". Well yesterday's bleed was fresh blood and they told me not to worry grrrr... Angry TBH I think they just leave you unless they suspect you are in danger as there isn't much they can do anyway. I have decided that I have to just get on with things and if beany isn't going to stick I can't change that by calling EPU every 5 mins and having a flap. What will be will be. Just praying the blood was from beany snuggling into my uterusSmile

kayzisexpecting · 08/04/2008 13:07

I would like a private scan, tempted to ask dh for it as a birthday present.

artichokes · 08/04/2008 14:54

We had a private scan last time at 11 weeks. I needed to tell work at that point but our NHS scan was not booked for another 2 weeks. We did both in the end. The private scan was sooooo much better, better machines meant much clearer images and the doctor took ages showing us all the details and explaining everything. I think we will do it again this time. Our NHS photos were pants in comparison.

kayzisexpecting · 08/04/2008 14:59

I have no idea where I can get one done though.

artichokes · 08/04/2008 15:02

Where do you live Kayz?

kayzisexpecting · 08/04/2008 15:02

North Yorkshire.

artichokes · 08/04/2008 15:09

hmmm. it is hard finding one near you. the best i can find is lancaster

kayzisexpecting · 08/04/2008 15:11

Its way too far away. We cant drive so would have to rely on trains etc with a 1yo.

I'll just have to wait.

artichokes · 08/04/2008 15:14

What is your nearest big city?

kayzisexpecting · 08/04/2008 15:20

Leeds or York but probably Leeds

artichokes · 08/04/2008 15:41

Here is one in leeds. £70 for a simple dating scan, £100 for the nuchal scan.

rosmerta · 08/04/2008 15:44

just caught up on the thread (again! it does move fast Smile). Can't believe there are 30 of us now!

Kayz, how is Yorkshire? I'm from Wakefield originally!

And I could live next door to artichokes without knowing it, I'm also in West London!

Mibbes I'm sure everything will be ok!

Still haven't heard from hospital about a booking appt or a scan, am wondering whether to ring drs and check they sent the form off. On the plus side, I have got my maternity exemption certificate through Grin

Bisou · 08/04/2008 15:46

mibbes I guess I must have 'spew envy' Envy LOL!

There is of course an old wives' tale that says if you have bad MS then you are having a girl. We'll have to see how that one holds up! I don't think I'm going to be able to wait to find out the gender when I can, I'm too impatient...

cazcaz do you mind me asking about your DS's genetic condition? Are you planning to have a nuchal? I know this can be a sensitive topic, and hope you don't mind me asking. Just tell me to bugger off if you don't want to answer! Smile My aunt has fairly severe down syndrome, and my last pregnancy (MC) supposedly had a chromosomal problem, so I'm a bit nervous about whether it will be ok this time.

For those of you who don't know, a nuchal is not just for down syndrome, but also any other chromosomal problem (although DS is the most common in pregnancies that continue). I've heard that sometimes a nuchal is not offered as standard, esp if you are 'young' and in the low risk category, so I guess if you want one then you should make this clear to your doctor as you need a sonographer who can measure the nuchal fold (not all of them can supposedly), and I believe it can only be done between weeks 11-13.

I also think whether this test is free depends on your primary health care trust - it was free when I was with Croydon PCT (in London), but I think that I may now have to pay for it here in Australia.

cococat I know what you mean about not wanting to let your work know, I am in the same position. It could seriously jeapordise my job prospects for the future. I did decide though, that having a family is more important to me so I'm ready to deal with that. But I'm still going to keep it quiet as long as possible! Have you thought about using some sort of digestive problem as a reason for not drinking? People with an stomach ulcer can't drink can they? Or you could do the old 'detox' story Wink

Hope everyone is doing well. Can't wait for my first spew so I can gross you all out with the details... :P

artichokes · 08/04/2008 15:46

Rosmerta Shock. What vague area of West London? Which hospital are you going to have you baby at?

toosoontotell · 08/04/2008 16:13

Hello again!

I still can't believe I'm pregnant so did another test Blush.(The first 2 were Clear Blue and I'd heard there can be false results) It's still a BFP Grin.

I've had bleeding in pregnancy, usually at around 8 weeks, and everything has been fine so it's not always doom & gloom Smile.

My PCT offers a dating scan at 12 weeks and a nuchal fold scan for "ladies over a certain age" Hmm,which I qualified for last time Grin. They also do a 20 week anomaly scan.

cazcaz · 08/04/2008 16:25

Hi bisou, My son has di-georges syndrome which is actually the second biggest genetic 'syndrome' after downs, but far less known.

Myself and DH have both been tested and our bloods were normal, for us it was just something that happened. My son is one of the 15% with this condition that don't have a serious heart defect (although he does have lots of other issues),and I know we have been very lucky.

I shall probably have the nuchal fold scan done because I do think that for us to have the information will be useful.

If for some reason I had had an amnio done before DS2 and it showed up the di-georges I would have thought seriously about terminating at that time. HOWEVER four years on he is just the most gorgeous, bright, funny, cheeky boy and I wouldn't change a thing about him.SmileHe's going to go to mainstream school (on a statement), has lots of friends, can write his own name, knows his numbers and most importantly is happy.

I'm really sorry to hear about your miscarriage and am hoping things go well for you this time, and I don't mind at all at you asking about DS2. I could talk about him all day! It's actually rather like therapy I get to write down all my innermost thoughts and share them with complete strangers.

Anonymousse1 · 08/04/2008 16:50

Hi all. I am knackered! I have had quite a lot of period type paid, but GP thinks it's things moving etc. Don't fancy much to eat, and am trying to think of novel reasons as to why the other 2 can't jump all over me as usual Smile

Anonymousse1 · 08/04/2008 16:50

pain even. God my brain has gone already

artichokes · 08/04/2008 16:54

Anonymousse - do you think being jumped on his a prblem at this stage? DD loves to sit on my lower tummy and jump around. In fact its her fav position when I am in bed or lying on the sofa. I thought that at this stage it should be OK as the embryo is so tiny. Do you think it is dangerous?

Anonymousse1 · 08/04/2008 16:55

well, if it's an 8 year old boy and you have a sore stomach it can be a little more difficult Smile

Anonymousse1 · 08/04/2008 16:56

that was not meant to sound as stroppy as it did when I read it back. I'm just an achy old bag.

cococat · 08/04/2008 16:58

Hi Bisou - work finding out would probably not affect my career progression as I secured a promotion last year. However our annual pay reviews and bonuses are decided during May. Obviously I want to secure the best pay increase I can!

How do you go about finding a private clinic please artichokes? I am in Surrey/south east London. Thanks
