Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Blobsmummy - all the best with the camp - I used to be a youth worker and ran loads of weekend and week long camps - so I know how much work they can be. Thankfully though everybody knows how important it is to be nice to the cook Put your feet up when you're peeling the spuds!

blobsmummy ! catering for 19 people!!! Blimey, rather you than me. I'm struggling enough catering for 3 at home on a daily basis!!

Baiyu Hope this isn't too much info for anyone, but my tip is 'from behind' is def most easiest as bump is out of the way completely !!!
Great news about the flat btw, fantastic.

pinacolada at your silly employers for not paying you!!

Still feel worn out today. Have cancelled a friend coming for lunch with her two kids, just couldn't face it, got a sore throat and just feel so pooped. Tomorrow I have 2 school friends coming to stay, we were going out for dinner sat night, but I have just emailed suggesting we just get chinese take away instead. I can't even be arsed to go out to dinner, how crap am I???!!!

So today is just a chilled out day at home with DD. I will nap when she does again.....ZZZzzzzzzz

Hi

pinacolada - sorry to hear about your bad experience at the hospital, I don't know why they think it's ok to treat people like that, also annoying about you not getting paid.

baiyu - good news about the flat!

blobsmummy - I am about to buy a new vacuum too! Also started washing the sofa covers yesterday, and generally doing too much trying to tidy up but still so much to do, think the nesting is kicking in now!

New fridge and freezer arrived yesterday which is great as we really needed a new one. Then last night I was feeling really tired and about to go to bed when i noticed water on top of the new fridge that we had just set up and looked up to see water coming through the ceiling! Thankfully the fridge wasn't damaged, but think it's leaking from the shower and I'm not happy about having to have baths from now on. We are replacing the bathroom in a few months hopefully but got to wait til then.

Just been to midwife appt, all fine, the head is very low apparently - finally got to see the nice midwife i like which was something.

hi bumps,
i am meant to get my first maternity pay on monday so lets see if it will be in my account or not. looking so forward for maternity pay cause as i took DD out of nursery (fees are £700 a months) i will have £ 700 more in my account.

this morning i finally got myself off the sofa to do some housework and approached the piled up dishes at my sink.
(normally i leave them for DH to do, but he's been working quiet alot recently so the dishes have just been ignored in the kitchen also started doing the laundry (dirty clothes piling up too) and finally have some me time on the computer. DH is popping in lateron on his break to cook for me and DD as i really cant get myself to cooking these days.
you must be thinking wow how nice from DH, well after a big argument with him last week i made him clear that he has to be more supportive even if he can't be at home that much.
and it clicked.

sorry girls but its my turn to spill my troubles..
Don't you just hate ( apologies if any are on the list ) Dr's receptionists.
I missed an antenatal apt over easter cause they told me i had to make apt at hospital, when i rang hospital they said no only come here if you need to see a consultant. so eventually get back to dr's who by this time cant give me an pt for another 3 weeks ( that apt was today). Well i was seen last week, but only because i rang the hospital as i had a small bleed and tummy cramp, which turned out to be an erosion on my cervix ? Had scan and asked to go back in 2 weeks for another scan.

Last night i had a car accident, minor bump but made much worse by row with dp who right this min i dont think is fit to look after a dog let alone me and baby .

Then in the mpost today i get letter from hospital saying i have GBS and need retesting at 36 weeks.

Have tried ringing gp surgery since 9am to let midwife know i cant attend as have no car due to accident. on hold on hold on hold.
Finally speak with receptionist, has no interest in my situation or even offers apology that i have been trying to get through for 4 hours and simply tells me she has no apt's to give me now until 9th april !
I mention to her that had car accident late last night and i was hoping for some reassurance from midwife to which she replied " well you should have gone to A & E" due to hormones/ row with boyfriend/ car accident and depression i just burst into tears. she said she would get triage to ring me and put the phone down.

at least the nurse who called me back was very kind, she explained the mw was still at the surgery and she would personally go in and ask her if she could possibly squeeze me in or at least call me later.

I know medical receptionists are very busy and must get stressed but no one forces them to do that job and they always make you feel like you are a being a nuicence.

On the plus side, car has been collected and curtesy car dropped off. its important for me to have transport i live in a village 7 miles to nearest shop and no public transport here.

Pinacolada hope today is a better day for you. And mocat of course any cat named mo must be simply adorable.
mumofok I washed the new bedding i bought for baby too, well the sheets i will need to take in for the hospital bag for baby. Did you iron yours or was i unusually keen ?

sorry if i have rambled on.

babylove - that all sounds miserable - sorry Glad you're ok after crash - take care!

With you on the car thing - we have no public transport either - 6 miles or so to the nearest bustop.

At my last GP surgery I phoned up to say I was pg with ds meaning to book myself in and the first thing the snotty receptionist said was "Well, do you want to keep it?"

Have started thread on my itchy bump from hell - just want to scratch and scratch!!!

babylove 21 hope your ok, hope everything is fine with the baby, the last thing that you need in that situation is an receptionist unsupportive like that.
gosh are people at the nhs paid that bad ? or why is it so hard to find supportive staff.

babylove21 - poor you; what a horrible 24 hrs. Hope things pick up and your fella realises that he needs to prove he is a wonder-partner from now on.

GCG - I'm not even going to post what my DH said when I mentioned your advice about approaching from behind! It sounds like you need to take it really easy for a few days (once your pals have gone). Lots of rest and fresh food required!!

baiyu - great news about your flat. It must be a big relief to know you'll be somewhere nice.

pinacolada82 - what a load of hassle about your pay! I hope you can get it all sorted without having to treck too far.

Hope you all have a good day, decorating and messy husbands withstanding.

All of your posts are always much more interesting than anything I have to say, so I tend to read instead of posting.
I have spent all day sitting on the couch doing nothing, luckily both DC like Cbeebies. I feel so tired today, but enjoying school holidays so I only need to get myself and kids dressed by 10 or sometimes later.

Sorry pinacolada about your pay again, hopefully this will be the last time and they will sort it out.

Babylove, I am sure some doctors receptionist think they have medical degrees and can treat people badly.

Baiyu good to hear about the flat and you look great in your profile pic, hopefully will get round to adding pics soon.

Welcome to wee Sophie!

Did you know she was going to make such an early appearance?

Glad you're both well

No, it was a bit of a shock on Wed at 3.00am and my waters broke. Managed to get to the hospital for 4am and was having contractions every minute at that point. They tried to stop labour but didn't work so ended up with emergency c-section and she was out by 9am. Hadn't even started my maternity leave, was supposed to be finishing today.

Wow - well done you - Sophie's a gorgeous name! What weight is she? I remember you saying you had a big bump

Take it easy and keep mobile, but don't do any lifting. LAvender in the bath is nice for stitches.

Thinking I'd better pack my hospital bag now ...

Babylove- some hospitals now have a prepaid tv, phone and internet machines next to the beds.

indiechick WOW!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Your announcement made me properly burst into tears....my DD is called Sophie (love the name, obviously) and it just brought a flood of memories & emotions of 2 yrs ago when I had her . I don't know whether it's hormones (probably!) or the fact that I have been feeling so tired lately, or the fact that DD (MY Sophie!) is being SOOO good today, the perfect child and a real pleasure to be with (she usually is, to be fair, hopefully for you it's something to do with the name!!). My Sophie was 6lbs 6oz, born at 39 weeks,so your little Sophie is doing very well, such a good weight for 32+5 wks!!! Bet you got a bit of a shock when your waters broke!!! Hope you are OK, not too sore, and I second the Lavender suggestion, and, of course, arnica!

Azaduhi Your DH sounds v nice, so what if it took a wake up call to get him to do those things, at least he took note!! I am extremely lucky to have a fantastic DH, so supportive and helpful in every way, and a great Daddy to DD. He works shifts which I believe helps so much cos he is around in the day so much more. I constantly tell him how lucky I am and that I don't take him for granted, especially after reading some of the posts on here.

babylove21 Blimey love, hope you are OK after your car accident, what a shock! We were hit from behind at a roundabout when I was 37 weeks with DD, it was so minor, no dmage to cars or anything, but it really shook me up being pg and being hit in car, so I can't imagine how you must be feeling, bit shaken up I expect.
Sorry to hear you had such a rough time with Dr receptionist. I agree, they are generally all jobsworths who think they have medical degrees. It annoys the hell out of me...esp the old "is it an emergency??!!" question when you ring for an appt on the day. I feel like saying "mind your own F* business!!".
What did you mean by your diagnosis of GBS??? I am group strep B, is this the same thing??? It basically means I have to have IV antibiotics as soon as I go into labour (which at least will stop hosp trying to put me off going in!!).

Sorry I seem to always do such mammoth posts. I'm quite a quick typer, so it never seems that long til I post it then think, oh blimey, GCG is at it again!! I think pinacolada and I should have a competition to see who posts more...ha ha...no offence pinacolada!! Actually, funnily enough, I actually DREAMT about MN last night!!! I dreamt that pinacolada had her baby, it was a girl and she named her Amy. I think maybe I am posting too much!!!!!

Feeling bit less tired today, so nice just chilling at home with DD. Talking of which, think I should go and spend some time playing with her, instead of sitting on the laptop!!

No doubt I will check in later!!

GCG xxx

Indiechick congratulations! And welcome to Sophie. I really hope you?re both doing okay. What a fabulous weight though, you must be a very efficient baby-cooker 

Gosh, 2 arrivals now? this is getting scary!

YCBS ? would love to meet up (and thanks for updating me on the list). When do you finish work? I?m off from 11th April but I don?t think you finish for a while yet?there are another couple of mumsnetters in the area so maybe we could get a lil group together for coffee and cake! I?ve set up an email account that I?m happy to post here: [email protected] ? so email me there and let?s set it up! By the way are you really walking 7 miles a day? That?s amazing?, oh, and I?ve opted out of NHS care too. There aren?t a whole lot of good options round here, are there?

Pinacolada, I?m so sorry you?re having such a rough time of it  I?m furious at how rude those doctors were to you, that?s disgraceful. Can you ask to see anyone else? I?d second what mumofk said about sleep and trying to do whatever you can to make that easier ? I was trying hard not to take anything at all but have taken paracetamol and ranitidine a few nights since having this cold when my headache and heartburn were really bad, and the better night?s sleep helped so much ? when you?re less tired you can see more clearly what the other symptoms etc are all about, can?t you? Gavison and rennies did f* all for my heartburn, which was making me throw up too ? but ranitidine (you can get it from Boots in tablet form over the counter) knocked it out in minutes. It?s classified as safe for use in pregnancy. I really hope you can find a way to get some more rest love.

Baiyu, your antenatal swim sounds lovely, I fancy that right now (well, it?s a toss up between that and a sleep  ). Thinking of hiring a TENS machine ? I used one years ago when I had back problems and didn?t find it all that helpful if I?m honest but I figure for £30 it?s worth having it as another option?

Kanga, sorry you?re still (poss) breech. I think someone?s already posted about optimal foetal positioning sheet but I?ve got it too if you want it so email me. Apparently acupuncture / moxibustion are good?!

GCG I?m sorry you?re so tired too. I know what you mean about having feeling so pathetic. I just feel weak and it does my head in, I want to be able to get on with life at my normal pace!!

Azaduhi your GP sounds stupid beyond stupid!!! And babylove, doctor?s receptionists are all cows in my experience (apart from unless any of you are, in which case I?m sure you?re lovely). Sorry about your accident, even little ones really shake you up?

I am STILL full of cold. It is going, but really slowly. My boss sent me home at half eleven this morning as I was apparently flushed and I made the mistake (or not!) of telling her I?d had really swollen ankles last night and a bad headache all week. I think it is just cold and late pregnancy general knackeredness rather than anything more sinister but I have to admit I was quite grateful to be sent home. So tired?. Going to get my head down (or as down as it can be on about 16 pillows!!) and try and have a kip in a bit.

To all those who are drinking loads ? ME TOO! Not feeling massively like eating but oh my goodness I?m getting through the glasses in our house!

How do I find you all on facebook? Is there a group?
