Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

pinacolada82 - clothes were in fact on right but I burnt my bacon for post-lunch bacon buttie! You win some, you lose some ... My friend's sis was only kept in for observation after she had turned up at the hospital 5 times to get the baby's movements checked!!! They said something along the lines of 'We will have to keep you in now because you've been here on five separate occasions. If anything goes wrong and we'd sent you away yet again we'd be for it.' Reassuring, huh? Her baby was fine, by the way.

Off to get my MatB1 form from the GPs. This should have been submitted at work weeks ago - I really hope it doesn't muck up my maternity pay.

DD is off school for Easter (she's 4.5) and she and I are starting to get on the other's nerves. She has just announced that she doesn't want to live here anymore with a grumpy mummy, a nasty daddy, a silly cat and a boring house. She then refused to go to the toilet and said she wouldn't come to the Post Office with me. I actually managed to chase her up the stairs, pretty good for a pregnant lady! Very out of breath as as result! Roll on Monday and school re-opening.

pinacolada, sounds like you're grandad is fabulous- just who you should take. If you're sure about waiting until next week to see your midwife, thats great, I just hate to think of you stewing over it for days, and then getting fobbed off (though your midwife sounds lovely). Hope you're ok.
I don't know if you'll remember, but a couple of weeks ago I saw my midwife who talked me into being referred to consultant. Well, she's just left (dropping off home birth pack and going over birth plan with me) and she's gone up in my estimatation! Apparently my concerns about being referred got her thinking, and basically one midwife, who's very nice but I don't remember her caring for me when I had DD, is saying I had a PPH last time. I don't think I did, not even a slow trickly one ( just spent half an hour discussing what I can remember of blood loss last time and this midwife even says it doesn't sound like I did) AND my post- natal notes are still lost, so they have nothing in writing. So, my midwife has spoken to a consultant and they are going to review my notes ( not me, yippee!!!!) and if they think it'd help to see me, then I'll get offered an appointment. Phew- don't have to get psyched up to see a dr, and if I do they will already know why I'm there. So, I'm really relieved.
Just an interesting aside, but been on AIMS website and they say (talking about trusts doing the dirty on home births and saying no at the last minute) apparently most women after 37 weeks just can't face confrontation and will put up with rubbish treatment, well I feel that way already!
Anyway, got my big yellow bag for home birth- its a bin bag full of stuff. Looks to be half full of inco pads, loads of gloves and swabs and a sterile 'delivery pack', bit of gel (for monitoring), sharps bin, a space blanket!!, quite a selection of vomit bowls, a big plastic sheet, gas & air mouthpeice ( apparently they go pick up the g&a, and oxygen when I phone- darn, hoped to have a play first!), a giving set (really hope thats not needed), some Hartmans (blood expander I think), a sharps box, a placenta box and bag (?) and the paperwork- I'll have a good read through all that! Hmmmm all seems a lot more real now. I really want to get the decorating finished ASAP.
Arrggh got to get DD now.

Evening lovely May mums,

4 hours of antenatal classes yesterday and antenatal swim today, quite a social business this pregnancy lark! I quite agree through sweetbean and mum2scrap I wish we could all go for coffee. Just started my antenatal classes a week ago as there was a computer error and I never got an invite, so I've done the last 2 sessions of this block then I'll do the first 3 of the next one and scare all the girls due ages after me with my big bump! Feel a bit of an idiot sitting there with 4 smily couples, they keep giving me pitying smiles when they're talking about partnery bits. All very lovely people I'm sure but I just want to shout "I'm not a single mother!" I wouldn't be embarassed if I was but I keep wanting to tell them all about my lovely DP.

KangaAndRoo the blooming marvellous pjs aren't a two-pack sadly though I know it does say that. I was confused but definitely only got one pair. Maybe it was meant to say two-piece? They're lovely anyway. There weren't any suitable ones to be found around here either, bit daft.

babylove21 boots do arnica for £5 and it's the clicky ones like sweeteners that you can click straight into your mouth. They don't taste of much pinacolada, just a bit chalky I think, not nasty.

littledee I've rented a TENS machine after my midwife raved about them, Boots and Mothercare both rent them online for £30 and they send them out a few weeks before you're due. You can keep them for 4 weeks I think, plus an extra 2 weeks for free as long as you tell them before they're due back.

GCG I am very jealous. That's all I'll say! Hurry up DP and get home, it's been a loooong separation. Will I still manage at 39 weeks? No idea but I'm going to give it a good try!!

pinacolada I'm so angry you had such a horrid hospital visit. I totally agree with mumofk, scare them with a complaint. I think taking someone with you next time is a great idea too. Hope you get it all sorted soon, the last thing you need now is more to worry about. Big hugs.

Oh, and I'm near Fort William, Scotland, will stick that one the next list. For those on facebook, I've put up a more up to date bump picture, I feel HUGE!

Beautiful day here today, hope you've all had lots of sunshine too.

pinacolada Youve seen my bump pics on FB....my belly buttons still pierced (longest its been kept in in pregnancy..took it out with dd at 30wks and put it back in when she was 4 months old ) and I have a bendy bar in it...but that 'bit of skin' is hurting me too hun!!!

pinacolada I was pissed off for you but not suprised (unfortunately) at your experience at hospital with consultant. I have worked in NHS hosp for 12 years and they are generally all up themselvse. joke what's the difference between God and a consultant?? God doesn't think he is a consultant...LOL!!!! I have also seen them get things wrong, so I totally agree with mumofk and second her excellent advice, speak to someone and get it sorted. Hopefully your midwife will help you next week. I think consultants get very blase and it annoys me, as we know our bodies etc. My poor BF was told last year she had had a MC by an obstetric consultant, and she HADN'T !!!! She then went on to have one weeks later, but was def still pg when he saw her. Unbelievable.Stand up to him/them!!! Let us know how it goes. Thinking of you and will say a special GCG prayer too .
Oh, and v jealous that your DH is a manager at Pizza Express!!!!

baiyu I'm sure you'll be able to manage a bit of 'how's your father' at 39 weeks!! Just remind yourself how long it could be AFTER giving birth!!!

BTW, anyone with 2-3 year olds, I got DD a great play/pretend kitchen in Tesco direct catalogue today (for her 2nd birthday on 17th May, getting organised!!) which is fab and half price in sale so only £12.50!!!!!! A bargain!!!! Might be worth checking it out if it's something your lo's might like?? The catalogue could is 100-0716 .

Feeling TOTALLY EXHAUSTED tonight. Got a bit of a sore throat and had a really busy week. Today I had two, 2 hr naps while DD slept!!! And I still feel washed out. Looked at my pgy diary from DD, and it was about this stage I started feeling completely knackered with her. I hate feeling like this, cos I am normally so on the go and active. I feel so pathetic.

Got DD's newborn clothes out today to wash and freshen up, they look TINY!!! Very excited. Starting to put bits together for hosp bag now. 35 weeks tomoz!!!!

Hope you are all well this evening, will catch up tomorrow.

GCG XXX

My MN friend (denny185) wore a belly button thingy throughout both her first 2 pregnancies, and I don't think she'll mind me telling you she put a lot of weight on with no 2 (5 & 1/2 stone!!!!) so she wasn't small either, think she might have had that excess fluid thing too (hence enormous weight gain as she was size 8 before she got pg).

Have just done an on-line shop as my feet are now swelling so much that walking for any period of time is horrible.

I'm off for the weekend to cater for a kids camp - which should be fun! DH is running it and I'm in charge of all the cooking (for 19 people), my mum is coming to help me out and DD is staying with MIL for the weekend, so it's not as hard work as it first sounds. Weather is due to be awful though, so I'm dreading having some very mucky kids in the back of our car on the way home!

For those of you experiencing a cleaning urge - I have just bought a new vacuum cleaner - a Vax - and have been horrified at the crap it's got out of our carpet! We only had them professionally cleaned 2 months ago, and I vacuum regularly, but just goes to show how much muck gets walked into a house in such a short space of time. When I was pregnant with DD I cleaned like crazy (skirting boards etc), but just haven't got the energy with this one, so vacuuming will be the extent of it!

Take care all, see you the other side of camp!

GCG I'm glad you think I'll manage, I certainly hope so! I read somewhere that it can be a bit trickier in the last wee bit of pregnancy so dashed out to buy some KY Jelly. Never needed it before and felt like a naughty teenager buying it with "chemist goods" on my receipt! Best to be prepared just in case! Sorry ladies, TMI! That's what happens when I'm still awake at 3am and have had a whole evening listening to my teenage sisters sexploits! Dirty wee minx

pinacolada I did think about taking someone with me and I still might in the new block of classes as they'll all be new people. I'm feeling quite independent though and getting quite used to doing things on my own so probably good to get used to it. I'll have 6 weeks of newborn on my own so this doesn't feel like too much of a hardship. I've met a few nice girls in my swim class so feel a bit less isolated. Apparently there's a really good mother and baby group too so I'll have that to look forward to.

Ooh, great news! Just had an e-mail from my uni and I've been given a really high priority for a lovely university family flat. I just have to work out my preferences and the best dates etc and I should have a flat to move into in the Summer! Might not get first choice but lots of good ones. Really pleased as there are lots in absolutely perfect locations and very child friendly. If anyone knows Edinburgh at all, basically the Meadows will be my garden! Woke DP up at some ungodly hour in China to blether about it and he's just as excited as me.

Time to sleep.... Hope everyone is great
